I lost the game
When I first started driving for Uber in college, I picked up a couple that wanted to go from Charleston, SC to Nashville, TN. They wanted to get to California, and had a coupon that they were using to get as far as they could go. We made stops the entire way, meeting my friends, and then theirs. Ashley and Cooper, thanks for the road trip

As someone who was born and raised in Delaware, using that “high five from the highest point” was absolutely hilarious to me. It’s no secret that about 2/3 of the state is completely flat. It’s literally a joke in my friend group where we take a picture of a gentle slope or slight elevation and go “look it’s the highest point in Delaware ❤️”

He discarded the simplest answer out of hand. They could have purchased 1 silver coin and an no pawn shop in the country would have turned away just 1 coin. They would never get less than 80% of what they paid for

Jk lol. If you have the money, time, friends and resources to do something like this I’d say go for it. You can even put your own spin on the game with rules and challenges that would make it more fun and exciting (or embarrassing) for the participants but wouldn’t necessarily make for good tv/RUclips.

I like the vibe of finishing challenges with the locals. I hope they will have a season that you have to try all the challenges by interacting with other people, doing some teamwork and making good friends.
Idk, I like the enhancement that the natural interaction brings. But I don’t want it to be forced.
Jet Lag gets about 300x better every season. Just look at how clean these edits are, and how well designed the rules are. Massive probs to the entire Jet Lag team.

This 47 minute video was much more exciting than the entire previous season of The Amazing Race. Relying on complete strangers like the pawn shop owner and Uber driver to complete challenges reminded me of the early seasons of TAR. Now, on that show, contestants are flown everywhere and it seems like every challenge is either a puzzle or simple physical battle. While the rules behind Jet Lag may seem intimidating at first, the more you watch, the more sense they make. Can't wait to watch the rest of the series!
I loved the Europe show because it was something else than flying in a plane or driving a car, and the cities were actually pretty. This one I adore also, because it has so much action. I don't look forward to travelling east, because if you remember, in the connect 4 series they just like weren't able to move around as well, because of the lack of train

It’s funny how the Uber in Camden had the glass between passengers and driver. It is Camden after all.
It is difficult for me to adequately express how absurdly happy I was to discover that a new season had started.
Also, if I didn't already love this series, the sublime surreality of 25:25 would have made me an instant fan.

Does Anyone Know if you can split up with ur partner? Like Adam takes a plane to california to touch the west coast? Also can you do multiple challanges at tge same time? @Jetlag
Wow, not sure if Ben and Adam realized but they played that state highpoint card perfectly. I've been to 80% of the state highpoints and that is by far and away the closest one to real civilization. Honestly, if Delaware wasn't an option, that card would essentially be useless. Awesome! Now to go watch the next episode on Nebula.

California might be even worse than the Rockies. Mount Whitney is tall, remote, and apparently requires a permit.
@@hucklebucklin Definitey Alaska as it takes 3 weeks to summit. In the contiguous US, nothing is even close to that level of inconvenience, but a number of them require multiple days of hiking/climbing. The worst (logistically) is probably Rainier in WA as it requires about 4 days, a permit, and almost always a professional guide. Like the other commenter noted, Whitney in CA also requires permits that are nearly impossible to get - even when looking years in advance, - so that also falls in the group of 10-15 states that are impossible for the purpose of this game

As someone who lives in Louisiana, it’s so strange to me that you guys can just go to any northern state at any moment. If you don’t have a car here, you can’t go anywhere. I was wondering how these challenges would be possible but then I realized you can take public transportation at almost any moment. This is awesome
Stoked to see Maryland play host in the first battle! I can't wait to see who locks us in. It's so rare that Maryland gets much love, so seeing Sam and Brian walk the same streets and take the same Metro lines I've taken for years is the coolest thing imaginable!

I'm really digging the challenges this year. It's fun to see tasks that really make the players have to move around, seeing all the coolest sights, like 432 Park Avenue, the highest point in Delaware, and DC's famous Spirit Halloween store.
Y'know, sometimes I wonder what other people might think when you guys just stare at each other through train doors and film each other like that. That looks hilarious.
I was thinking about this the second they released their Europe Tag, it's so much harder to find public transportation in the US. Can't wait to see how it goes!

The northeast is easy mode for this in comparision
The Boston to Washington portion of the Northeast Corridor, along with the branch lines off of it to Harrisburg, Albany, and Springfield< MA are the only really useful parts of US intercity rail. They actually have over 80% of the combined air/rail market share in their territory.

Western Europe is still pretty bad in smaller cities but medium-large cities are miles ahead of the U.S. and Canada. And minimal transit is better than no transit.

it was genuinely surreal seeing Metro on this series, I don't think I've EVER seen a RUclips video of someone riding it! Used to commute on it every day, great to see it represented by Sam (who I didn't know was from DC--heck yeah!!). This series is awesome so far :D
Actually got a slightly misty eyed at that point - riding the D.C. Metro by myself at 15 during a family trip to Washington kicked of a life long love of setting off on adventures on my own.

They are done by the captions plus service. Tom actually recommended them to Jetlag.
You can't make coloured captions via the RUclips editor interface otherwise I would have used them on my own videos as well
They're great! Usually I only notice one or two minor errors. This one was a bit of an exception, with "tous les mèmes" getting captioned as "two slim men", "highest point in Delaware" as "highest point in nowhere", and the Nebula ad captions appearing about five seconds after Sam said the words and cutting off at the end of the video (plus the usual minor goofs that don't actually matter). But still, far, _far_ better than most channels!!! I appreciate their willingness to pay a professional to do it instead of just using YT auto-captions or a third-party automated tool.

This is great! One challenge idea I thought of that might be fun, is you could do a race around Europe (or anywhere), doing challenges in every city, BUT the twist is, each challenge is worth a certain number of points, and once you reach a certain number of points, you can bypass every city and go direct to the finish line...

Found your channel a week ago and I was so sad because i ended the others seasons too fast, this one came at the right time!
found this channel through tom scott and binged literally all of the episodes on the channel *yesterday* and couldn't wait for more - apparently I have perfect timing!
I didn't see any comments talk about how absurdly OP the "Card Swap" power up is compared to all of the others. First of all I'm confused why Adam and Ben didn't just immediately use it after completing the pawn shop challenge to swap back the 2 bad cards they had been given with the 2 good cards they lost (before Sam and Brian completed one of course), but *ALSO* gaining the knowledge of their opponents entire deck of card options - which will tell you what they are likely doing and where they are going potentially even better than the literal "Tracker" powerup would.
The "Border Pass" seems fairly weak, it is only the tiny NE states where an uber or rental car would be faster than public transportation (for most of the day, not sure when exactly their enforced night rest time is).
The "Reshuffle" is really bad, if your entire hand is bad cards it's more advantageous to use your powerup to get to pick 2 out of 7 challenges directly to ensure that they're ones you can actually complete - you could shuffle and draw a full 7 and still get 7 bad ones again. With those 2 possible hand-picked challenges you can use the next powerup point to use the Reshuffle powerup if the opponents remaining cards are all bad, but you can't do the reverse of Reshuffling into a guaranteed possible powerup and spending that on a Card Swap. Not only that - but simply the knowledge alone of your opponent's entire options is so absurdly powerful!
If this entire game could be run 100,000+ times I'm completely sure that the winning strat would be to play ONLY Card Swap + Tracker (situationally). For example if you see them flying out to the Pacific Ocean you could just Card Swap out their "touch both oceans in the same day" card, essentially losing them the game with the huge amount of time that wastes for them.
This is one of the best series i've ever watched, so good. Please keep going!
