And another fantastic army is done! I was looking forward to this clip. Tyler was clearly quite overwhelmed with the gift you guys made him. Thank you for sharing the process of painting the army! You made yellow look easy ;)
4:36 have had great results with mixing about a 50/50 mix of AK ultra matt varnish into my inks. That way I save a step and I also don't need thinner for either. The end result is still a bit satin (which I like), but that can be easily tweaked by altering the ratio.
Excellent cameo by Tom! I hope you're not in too much discomfort whilst you recover from your injury. My lumbar spine is made from cornflakes, any amount of sitting causes me pain. I've switched full time to standing desks.
What a hugely useful vid', thanks Vince. There are lots of tips that I'll be trying, but that yellow recipe is so timely - I was just trying to figure out how to paint a squad of yellow robots for Stargrave.
The Hobby Cheating videos have certainly improved in presentation, style and humour over the years. I think a big change came after you had Jon, Scott and Sam over for a week-end. I like how you how talk into the camera at the start and those funny little intermezzos. Good humour on that "so you think you are done?" Best Regards Peter Rasch Lageri, Denmark.
just watched two videos, lovely stuff - this is exactly my sort of painting. Not afraid to spend time as long as it's in the right places. Look forward to going through all your videos.
Great video and awesome army choice. There is so much to unpack for me in these 25 minutes (technique, color choice, recipes etc) that Ill need to watch a dozen more times. I always learn something new on multiple viewings. Looking forward to the Mawkrusha vid......
Good on you for saying wear a mask while using white sprit I see youtubers who airbrush lacquer paint with no mask on and use lacquer thinner to clean it with no mask
Respirator, extremely toxic... 😅 hehe will start using one, ive only now gotten into airbrush and never heard or thought about it until now... Thanks for the life saving tip, and great army!!
Great tutorial with lots of tips to absorb over the next few weeks. Thanks so much for your teaching, especially with a bad back….hope it gets better quickly.
Reminds me so much of my initial blitz for an Empire force with Star Wars: Legion. I burned through it in just over a week along with the rebels and barricades in the starter box.
I just wanted to drop a big thank you. I decided to get into AoS and chose Ironjawz (because Waaagh and stuff), and I know that with my current painting skill level I wouldnt get nowhere close to the results Im getting with a video like this.
Excellent work, hope your back is healing quickly, I just realized last time I used grime I just went in straight with spirit, not whipe on dry, explains why it came out weirdly brighter then before.
I was looking forward to these once I heard about the donation for Tyler. Love this format but also understand why it is an incredibly rare piece of content due to the scope. I love how every step is broken down but skills and techniques that can transfer to any paint scheme are highlighted (e.g. the use of a limited palette). I wonder if you could expand on that piece of content and do other videos along those lines such as "(whatever the proper name for the limited palette is) for Basic SCE/whatever other faction" or maybe color theory around if you chose this as your primary color this is how you go about choosing those select few other paints. Keep up the awesome work and love the cliffhanger at the end!
Yeah, these are always massive projects, and I love the videos, but I do need to find someway to get at the same thing, but in a more reasonable way. :)
I think I used a half a pot of streaking grime hosing down my gargants and Kragnos for my two nashcon lists. Videos like this from you and other RUclipsrs are what enabled me to SpeedPaint them in time for the event.
@@VinceVenturella Hey man far as I'm concerned they're top notch amazing infotainment. Any new take is really valuable, like doing the yellow. I'm planning a wood elf army. I want to get a "sunlight shining through the canopy" look for the cloaks. I'm thinking thinking zenithal prime red, orange, white, then yellow (ink?), then the green as a contrast type glaze (ink again?), finally a deep blue oil for the shadows and a warm white oil for the highlights. I could do with your guidance. Am I thinking about this right?
Vince: "watch me get a whole army done in a week" Me: "watch me do a whole 10 Necron Warriors in two" Out of curiosity, do you thin your varnishes when using them through the airbrush? I've got AK matte varnish for my airbrush but I honestly just never get around to using it out of trepidation of getting the settings/consistency right and then just keep spending money on spray cans instead.
I do thin it through the airbrush but you cant really mess it up just don't put on too much. You just want to thin it so it will spray evenly though the airbrush
I never thought of using free-hand patterns to break up a colour on the armour. I have 60 bestigor with Tau Light Ochre armour which I dabbed with a sponge to create some rust underneath but even with that, the burnt orange is quite strong. I was wondering though what patterns would fit a BoC army, I doubt they would be the kind of race to go for intricate patterns.
Incredible. That quality in 5 days is astonishing. I'm sure it was 40ish hours but impressive nonetheless. Your expertise shines through in an amazing way.
19:15 I feel ya. Currently dealing with a (double) hernia for the first time in my live. Need to stand up as much as I can, so doing less hobby than I would like. Rough times.
At the end of the yellow, you mention a bit of yellow-white, curious if you mean something like a scalecolor tenere yellow or if that’s off base with what you’re implying? 5:19 Btw love this scheme, using it on my bloodbowl orcs!
Amazing work Vince, as always. I really like this method and would love to do this for my ironjawz army but in blue armour. What would be the shadow colour/s for blue armour please? Would love to hear your suggestions. Would a red under tones/ shadow colour?
For the "edge highlighting for free" drybrushing, what surface finish is best to just catch the edges? matte? satin? gloss? I worry something too matt and the drybrush will leave paint on the flat areas, and too gloss and the edges will spill over off the edges with a streaky look
Doesn't really matter much, it's more about the softness of the brush and the amount of paint. A little satin can help a little, but you can do it with any.
Really enjoyed this. I’m getting an airbrush for Christmas so I am going through a lot of your videos that feature it to learn. Any tips on taking this process but doing blue armor? Mainly with the under-shade.

Hi vince, great content as always! I have a couple of quick questions.. 1 - is the streaking grime stage interchangeable with an oil wash? Or does one have more benefits over the other? 2 - what did you use to create the base texture effects? I love that dry/cracked/arid/burnt Earth look but not sure what the best product to use would be Thanks as always!
A little ekstra question Daler Rowney FW has two orange colors Flame Orange and Fluorescent orange which one did you use in the combination with the Yellow Ochre?
Wonderful work and a fun video! As for the back pain, I feel your pain! I have been unable to sit and paint for 6 weeks due to 3 herniated discs at once. I would also be interested in how you paint other models. In our game group, for example, BattleTech is currently a topic, and I would also like to paint the small mechs well. However, this seems much more difficult than, for example, on the Godmachines of Adeptus Titanicus.

Yeah. I was wondering if I heard him wrong. XD
I use Skavenblight Dinge. It looks good against green, concrete, and brown dirt.
It's always black. :)
What about a t-shirt in the merch store with that slogan printed on.... 😁👍
The foolproof version is to use a yellow ink after the red undertone and the light tan highlight. You can't cover too much with it and it's glorious.
