One can compare staging ,voices ; (to an extent), and techniques, but people have preconceived ideas about opera- snobby , too difficult because of language differences , for example. Me? I am not Italian and do not speak the language. Yet nothing-NOTHING- touches the emotions and sense of well-being as opera and the arias I play. It impacts mood, a sense of hope and alleviates despair. I am so grateful for the opportunity to enjoy and listen.
It was a poor choice of song to sing in the final. Nessun Dorma has been flogged to death. I think had he chosen a different song it would have made all the difference

It's a bit difficult to tell how good his voice is, given that opera singers don't use mics/amplification.
