  • In Episode 6 of Kirby Allison's "From Suit to Shoot" RUclips series, we return to Savile Row tailors Henry Poole & Co, for the second fitting of Kirby's bespoke five-piece shooting suit. The second fitting, or the finish bar finishing fitting, is the point where the final form of the suit comes together. The garment is fully constructed and ready for all of the details of fit to be evaluated by the bespoke cutter.
    Any necessary adjustments, such as sleeve or trouser length, the pitch of the sleeve, etc, is then made before the garment is "finished" with handmade buttonholes and the edge stitching. This attention to detail is one of the many elements that gives the final bespoke product it's absolute integrity. Nothing passes the keen eye of the bespoke cutter as he works to ensure that the suit is perfect.

    Hey Kirby, I've been learning to sew shirts lately and it's dawned on me that shirts are a completely different industry to suits. As such, I think it would be worth putting on your bucket list to make a tailoring documentary series (like this series and the cowboy boots one) but for shirts. I think it would be interesting to see the process of designing and fitting the collar.

      Although I noticed in the background of one of these recent videos a sneaky calender marking November 2021, so I suppose I will have to wait quite a while xP.

      Don’t forget the Wil Whiting series. I make very amateur shirts at home. I took the casual shirt option because that’s what I wear! There’s detail in dress shirts like the curve of the collar over your shoulders. A lot of the fit, I’ve found, comes from getting the shoulder and yoke section right. That’s before you worry about the detailing. Good luck.

    I have really enjoyed this series so far and wanted to thank you for documenting this beautiful traditional craftsmanship so that people who might not be able to afford it can still enjoy this process. But I also think that the industry can call themselves fortunate for having you due to the exposure they gain from your content.
    However I have watched all episodes with a bad feeling knowing that this series will conclude in meaningless killing of animals for entertainment purposes only. But I hope that it will have a happier ending than that.

    • @G.UK76
      @G.UK76 Год назад

      It won’t. In Scotland we shoot game which has lived in the wild as nature intended with welfare standards which are so far superior to industrially farmed food as to be unrecognisable by comparison. Even if you are not a meat eater the welfare cost to animals of most industrial arable farming is grossly unacceptable. Yes the birds will be shot but for food first with entertainment being secondary.

    • @donramon8348

      @@G.UK76 Nowdays, we don't need to rely on animal products for nutrition, and without it being a necessity it becomes a prefence. So you kill not because you have to but because you want to. In other words: for the enjoyment.

      @@S-Ltd1000 No more odd than any of us who are interested in learning about and occasionally purchasing the very best in materials and artisan skills. Kirby has sought it out in clothing and shoes and introduced the best brands, techniques and quality to a far wider audience. That deserves to be applauded, not derided. Many people working in these trades are shy about proclaiming what they do, hiding their light under a bushel (there’s a British reticence in traditional spheres to boast or talk about yourself much as it’s not regarded as the right thing to do) so it needed someone with Kirby’s polite and slightly deferential approach to give them confidence to speak about themselves and what their work involves.
