#400calories
#veganrecipes
It's about time someone voiced the concern many of us are experiencing. You absolutely can not eat ALL you want, even if it's plant based! Thanks for this. Keep showing us 400 calorie meals!
Yes!
Yes please, more 400 calorie meals
Also, glycemic number plays a role too! High glycemic foods are horrible for weight loss! For diabetics, it easily spikes the blood glucose which in turn means alot of insulin is released to keep blood sugars normal. High insulin levels in circulation keeps a person fat and flares inflammation!
We make Vegan Lobster to add to our Spring Rolls. Empty one can of Hearts of Palm. Cut into 1 inch chunks, press lightly, stir in 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning and 1 teaspoon Dulse flakes. Put into a Zip Lock bag. Squeeze out the air. Marinate in the fridge for 1 hour. Add to the Spring Rolls.
I have to try this!
… and, just added old bay and heart of palm to my grocery list. Thanks so much for the tip!
We love you guys! Thanks for all the amazing comments. Today I show you had much food you can get for 400 calorie per meal if you build your meal around a starch and stuff it with non starchy veggies. These meals are prefect for Starch Solution and our Monthly 21 Day Starch challenges which started Sept 4th. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.
Love you Joey and Tim! Thank you for all your hard work you put into these videos!
Thanks Joey! I hope you can make this a regular feature since so many of us need it!!!
@@CharGC123 I completely agree! I would love to see more great videos that show the calories of meals. Everyone talks about caloric density, but no one actually likes to talk about calories for some reason. This video is just the type of content I need!❤
@@broccolista Actually counting calories religiously is a real drag and very impractical, whereas caloric density is a more generalized framework. But you still need to know that general framework and most of all how many calories you actually need so you can determine how much to eat. I logged my food/caloric intake on Chronometer for a bit to determine this and though their estimate of my BMI says I can eat 1800 calories to maintain my weight that is FAR from accurate! More like 1200 and of course less to lose weight! 1,000 calories a day or less is pretty sparse and feels restrictive but....
@@CharGC123 Totally agree that counting calories is a total drag, and not something I want to do, but being oblivious to calories and believing other influencers that show enormous calorie-dense meals and thinking I can do the same just isn't working for me. Love seeing examples of meals that are both 1) High volume and 2) Low calorie. That is the holy grail! 🙂 I'll try logging my calories in Chronometer for a while just to get a baseline. What was the magic number of calories for you to lose weight?
You’re the reality check I needed. Yes, I can pat myself on the back for going plant based but, it was not a free pass to eat however much I wanted. Time to reign it in. As they say, “know better, do better”
Joey, I think you've tapped into a niche that your viewers and the WFPB community desperately needs: low calorie plant-based meals where you show us the actual calorie content. I agree with what so many others have asked for in the comments. We would love to see a series of videos where you show us these great meals that are high volume, low calorie, weight loss friendly meals. Thanks for such an awesome video. Keep up the great work!❤
Did you include the calories for the sauce in the Brussels sprouts? One tablespoon of maple syrup is 52 calories, 18 for the soy sauce, another 14 for a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar….so that is another 84 calories for that meal. Haven’t seen your dinner yet, but wondering if you accounted for everything that actually went into your meal. I love 400 calorie meals! This is a great way to eat. You and I are the same age. I lost 92 pounds and have maintained it for the last 3 years within a 7-10 pound bounce as weight is always changing based on many factors. This is the BEST way to eat.
I did account for it in the total weight at the end. You of course would need to measure on your own but yes, its all accounted for.
@@PlantBasedDads I asked because it is easy to forget how those little things add up. 😁
How about measureing
How about using cups to measure? Grams?
When I saw your video last week I decided to Cut my calories to 1200 as well and I've been using my fitness pal to track and surprisingly I am eating a lot more than I used to substituting the lower calorie dense foods. This just helps me keep track better and ive lost 4 lbs already.
Joey and Tim this is a WONDERFUL video! Thank you so much for the break downs! Please do more 400 cal meals! You both are awesome for taking the time to do this for us!
More of these kinds of videos are great! Coming up with non boring low calorie density meals is so helpful!
Thank you so much! I’ve been failing to lose weight as a vegan and this is perfect ❤ I hope you continue to make these 400 calorie meal videos 🙏😊
me too
me three!
me four!
You are so sweet to feed the hummingbirds!!
Arizona! I recognized it. I’m in Tucson. Say, if you dads made a cookbook I’d buy it. ❤
Great video! Same issue here, slow metabolism. Have you ever tracked your sodium? I myself was getting a little heavy handed with the tamari and pickles... I had 6 pounds of bloat! It was a wake up call that I need to be more mindful of. Love the 400 calorie meal video style!
Thank you for showing us visually how much one can eat for such low calories. I needed this refresher. I eat well and am fit but always looking for inspiration and this definitely did inspire. Would like to see more of these low calorie density delicious meals.
THANK YOU. Please do more. I was following a couple of people that I really like and they were eating MOUNTAINS of starch based calorie deficit food..so I did the same and did not lose weight. I know now that I can't eat like them, that I need 1200 calories of good plant based food like you have demonstrated.. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Greetings from North Bay Ontario Canada.
Thank You! Loving these 400 calorie meals - would like a whole cookbook of these! I though going plant based oil free would be much easier than what I experience too (over 60 female) - no alcohol no soda on and on - but not so -
Keep em coming!
Looks fabulous guys, I sometimes don’t do equal calories each meal. I find that I can do about 200 calories in the morning with the Costco frozen green beans and mixed vegetables with a hunk of tofu and some balsamic, sounds weird, but it’s good. I’m just not as hungry in the morning. I also do low salt cause I have high blood pressure too. Then I have about 600 calories for lunch which is my biggest meal of the day. I love how you said Hercules 3 times, from the nutty professor, I say that too. Good tip for you my friend, instead of pressing your tofu, try putting paper towel around the tofu and putting in the microwave for 2 minutes. Comes out perfect texture. If only using a few slices, just about 1 1\2 minutes. It’s a fabulous trick I got from Miwa’s Japanese cooking RUclips video, it was how her mother makes her tofu.
So if you're using the entire block of tofu as in this tofu scramble recipe, would you microwave the block whole, or slice it first?
@@snu3877 I’ve never microwaved it for a tofu scramble because I just crumble up the tofu and cook it with onions for a long time and that dries it out. But I might try it and let you know. It probably would cut back the cooking time. I make a lot of tofu sandwiches with sliced tofu, and microwaving it works good for that, sometimes I’ll throw the tofu slices in a nonstick pan after the microwave and brown them. It makes them even better to imitate sandwich meat texture.
Oh, I thought the microwaving was an alternate way to dry it out. @@hidden909
I love having a visual of 400 calorie meals - I really appreciate all the work you put into this video. I'm close to your age & also, cannot eat as much food as the younger RUclipsrs (It took way too long for me to realize that!). Thank you for being so open & honest ❤
It all looks great. I’ve found you can put all the ingredients in a big sheet pan lined with parchment or silicon mat. Roast for 30 min 400 degrees (check in 20). That way you don’t have to watch it. Turns out so good.
Thanks for the tip!
After last weeks video i started counting my calories and i also started intermittent fasting. Finally i am losing weight. 3 lbs last week. I see now i was really over eating. Thank you Joey for the help. 😊😊
You’re making humming bird feed, awwww my heart just melted! 🌸💚I live in the UK we don’t have those or scorpions! 😅
Thank you Joey for all the work you do to help us
I have donecthe sugar water feed for years. My hummers love it. But dont dilute it. Just let it sit and cool a bit.
What does Tim do? Thanks for sharing these amazing low cal meals!
Great inspo! More please!
Looks so good and looks like plenty!
Of course you can sprout chia seeds--that's where chia pet hair comes from! 😄
Well said and same for me at age in upper 50’s.
Yum! Thanks for the great inspiration!!!!
Thank you for this update! I also really like the new lights. The reason we use refined white sugar in the hummingbird nectar is because organic sugar has too much iron due to having some molasses. White sugar has had the molasses stripped out.
Ahhh. Ok. Thanks for that.
@@PlantBasedDads you’re so welcome! 🥰
Loved it! I was hoping you guys would show us some examples of 1200 cal meals. Enjoyed it so much and learned a lot too.
Just getting started in this lifestyle and found you guys. I do count calories and I was excited to see these videos with the calories included! 😄
Welcome aboard! The newer vides are going to have a lot more info. Check out today's video
Thanks so much for this video!
Thank you so much for your video's just started my plant based journey in January. And I along with my family love the videos.
Great video! I was making spring rolls for dinner as I was watching this and was mindful to add more veggies and less rice. 😊 It’s amazing how a little adjustment like that can make a big difference. I have lost 17 pounds since April filling my plate with at least 50% non starchy vegetables. I feel full and satisfied on 1400 calories/day this way. 👍
When I make scramble, since you're breaking it up anyway, I just squeeze about 1/4 block at a time between my hands over the sink.
I love this! I hope you make it a series. From all the comments I've read, I believe that you have a lot of followers who will really appreciate your ideas.
Great video!
That chandelier is so similar to what I have in our loving room. We love the warmth of the yellow bulbs.
Recipes look FANTASTIC!!!!!!! I am going to make all of it!!!
Amazing how much food you made for 1200 calories! Love it!
THANK YOU JOEY and TIM for sharing ALL your awesome and and AMAZING meals FABULOUS
These are the videos we need!!! Thank you for being the voice of reason!
I tried calorie counting diets in the past. I was eating more of the standard American diet at the time, so I really didn't get that much food with it. My calorie counting app said I should be eating 1200-1500. I usually ate 1500 or more, and was still hungry at the end of the day. This is way more sustainable than how I was doing it. I also paid attention to the Canada food guide at the time, and wondered how I was supposed to eat the amount of food they recommended and not be over-weight.
Love this entire video, guys! I’m definitely happier and satisfied as a volume eater like you’ve shown here. Consistency is key and where I fall short. You’re such a good hummingbird dad, too! You know what they’re thinking and their schedule. Love it! So when you tried the wrap I was thinking about a spoon and then you said it lol. I always spoon the sauce in there too. I’m surprised it was 200 calories using the PB2. I will break it down as you and Tim have so I know I’ll be in better control. Nice work on this video! Thank you!
I was also surprised the PB2 sauce was 200 calories.
It is because the recipe calls for 3/4 cup of powder. So it adds up fast. It also has two TBSP of maple syrup in it and that is 100 calories right there. Of the 200 calories I portioned out for myself, I only ate a small part of that. So really, I had a lot less than 200 calories for the sauce. But it is SOOOO worth it. That sauce makes the whole meal.
This video was so helpful. Keep them coming! I’m also counting calories to lose weight. This is the only way I’ve found to lose weight as a vegan after many years of trying other methods. The unlimited calories never worked for me although I wish it had!
What a fabulous show!❣️ Very informative❣️
I always put tons of vegetables into my tofu scramble. I love using frozen vegetables in it because it's so convenient.
I hope you keep making these videos. I love the 400 cal meals this has been very helpful. Thank you.
I love hummingbirds! I became obsessed with Olive in Oceanside, CA via RUclips. She's prolific and had 3 clutches this spring/summer. People watched from all over the world as her babies grew up and left the nest. :-) I've been making my hummer nectar by boiling the water with sugar in it on the stove. I guess I've been doing it wrong!
Unrelated, I'm starting day 3 back on HCLF to get my blood sugar down...and, so far so good. #hoping
I used to make it that way until we got that plug in tea pot thing. Now it's much faster
Great meals! I am so excited that I can use your site to give meal ideas that identify the calorie and nutrition content as well! Super excited!!
Hey mate - doctor here!
I watched your last video and I had some thoughts. You definitely don’t look 60, you look like you’re in your 30s. So I suspect that low metabolism that worries you has kept you looking young because you are rusting more slowly. Have you had your thyroid function, including your thyroid antibodies checked? People with a slow metabolism within the range of normal do live longer, even if they’re a little bit plumper, because they are producing less oxygen free radicals and have lower impacts of metabolic activity.
If your thyroid function needs a bit of a boost, because you’re below the range of normal, that’ll help with energy as well as weight.
The other thing is, if you add muscle, you will definitely increase your metabolic rate.
Also, science shows that we don’t really start to drop our basal metabolic rate until we are well into our 60s
Love the channel! Awww. I liked the beard!
Just found your channel and I’m excited to binge watch your videos! Love these 400 calorie meal ideas😊
This. Thank you so much. I do love when you both are in a video. You are a great couple.
Everything looks delicious. 😋
Thanks for sharing. ❤️
❤great video. Very helpful. Thank you!
I just went and bought me a pretty notebook, yes this is important, for my first 100% day into this
That was amazing, I would love to see more of your 400 calorie meals.
Those meals look filling and tasty!
Amen precious brothers. I love it because I am on 1200 calories a day as well 💪
Hey Joey, This was another great video! I commented on your last video as a wfpb person who did not lose any substantial amount of weight using the "eat as much as you want" philosophy so prevalent in this community.
I wanted to say, in doing recent research, protein has come up once again. I know we don't need piles of protein as plant-based eaters, that most every food contains protein, and no one ever ends up ill from lack of protein... however, it has come to the forefront with a number of the plant-based doctors when dealing with older adults (obviously, not Dr. McDougall). As we age and start losing muscle mass, it is recommended to increase protein intake (muscle loss really ramps up over age 60). I wanted to mention this to ask if you have come across this in your own recent research. You and Tim look great and probably want to hold onto the muscle mass you have... especially after that pest control guy's comment, lol! I would be interested in hearing your opinion on the subject.
I have been watching my wfpb meal portions and am having great success, finally!! Always sending my best to you and your family!! ❤
Love the light fixture! What I do is add 1 measure of hot water and let the sugar dissolve, then add 3 measures of cold water and the hummingbird food is ready.
Thats a great idea. I am going to try doing that. I gotta take care of my birdie babies
Yes. I'm really interested in this too. Thanks Joey. Being in my 50s it's is hard
Love this video and showing what 400 calories can look like..
I love tofu scramble, it’s one of my favorite meals😊
When I started Starch Solution I thought counting points or calories would be a thing of the past , but I wasn’t losing, I’m back to counting and I have never been more pleased with my weight loss and feeling in control
Those meals looked amazing can't wait to try the glaze on my brussel sprouts!
All your food looks amazing and you make me so hungry when you eat it!
There is no way I'm going back to counting calories but I can eyeball things to make sure I'm not overeating healthy foods! Thanks for the reminder!!
When I went to WW, i eventually could look at an item and tell the points. Now that I have a better understanding of grams, I really can just throw food in a dish and know how many calories it is.
I have been really measuring and paying attention to serving sizes since your last video and wow! It had made a huge difference. I knew that my calorie intake needed to change but you really put it into perspective for me. I can't thank you enough. Also love the 400 calorie meals videos.
Great videos!! I tried my first spring rolls a few days ago. This helped me. The 400 calorie meals look fantastic!!!!
Thank you! Keep the 400 calories coming!
Great video, would love to see more!
Please do more of these. I’m a volume eater!!!😬
This is SO helpful. More recipes like this, please!
👏👏 More of these, please! (I know it takes way more time .. )
Thank you both for doing this! You guys are great.❤ love watching you both.
I hope you make more 400 calorie meal videos, this was very helpful
I agree about the lamp being orangey
You should get a tofu press. Not expensive and totally worth it.
Great ideas 😇thanks so much for the great suggestion on the meals🌞they all look very easy to make🙏
Green tabasco for me please. (Plus mushrooms in the scramble.)
I'm making this dinner ASAP. ❤
Thanks, Joey. Much needed info!
I've never counted calories before, but after your last video I'm going to start, so it's great that you are giving us an idea of what a 400 calorie meal looks like.
JOEY and TIM PLEASE DON'T LISTEN to ANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS PLEASE 🙏
Aren’t sprouted chia seeds a chia pet?
Cha cha cha chia!
Those spring rolls may be the only way I can 'dilute' noodles with veggies and not feel deprived. They look amazing!
I love your videos. You're so funny.
I apologize if you have mentioned this before but I'm trying to understand how to figure out my macros. I have tried different calculators and they are all different. I purchased the chronometer gold but not sure what macros to enter. Thank you for another great video! You guys are the best!
I just enter the foods I eat and it shows me all the macros for those foods.
Looking forward to watching this!
Nice to see the old Joey back and this time armed with some good ideas. I haven't been subscibed for a long time so I will see you make that peanut sauce because I looove peanut sauce then afterwards I will go to your website to get the recipe. Have a great day! It looks like you and Tim have this handled. You are definitely not starving so how about more ideas for the rest of us!
You inspired me to try that tofu dish!
Costco has the best tofu!
I like yellow mustard from Costco. It’s organic and 3 ingredients only
Great recipes 😋 amazing what you can have for 400 calories! Thank you so much for sharing 👍
Thank you for sharing this it has been a battle trying to eat this way and not having success in the weight loss and minimal reduction in the A1C. Was wondering for the calorie count on the vegetables do you use a specific sight for this information? Thanks again for sharing and being real.
Awesome - great video thanks!!! 😊
Loved it Joey
All your meals look delicious and healthy. I count calories every day to stay on track for my weight maintenance. It's not much of a hassle. You're doing great!
Great video! I use a hand held potato masher for my pressed tofu when making tofu scramble works like a charm and quick. I love that someone is addressing the elephant in the room with eating all you want.
