  • Can you believe that only 37% of young people aged 16-24 were taught about emergency contraception in school or college, according to a survey conducted by the Family Planning Association?¹
We are concerned that this lack of education around emergency contraception is fuelling outdated myths and stigmas which are making it harder for young people to access the morning after pill. In this instalment of the ellaOne question, the team asked the public whether they had been taught about emergency contraception in school. If schools aren’t teaching it, where are young people getting their information from?!

    ----------
Emergency contraception is a conversation steeped in stigma. Most of us know what it is and where to get it, but it seems no one wants to talk about it. Taking emergency contraception is treated as an admission of behaving irresponsibly when, in reality, the opposite is true. 'The morning after the night before' is a lingering taboo, but it shouldn't be. The morning after is a choice, not a confession. It doesn't just signal the night before: it welcomes the promise of the day ahead. It’s time to empower women to embrace this conversation. We are breaking the taboo about emergency contraception and encouraging women to come together to normalise this 'issue'. No morning after comes without a story: we want to cultivate a sense of community by educating, empowering and encouraging women to embrace their unique experiences.
By sharing our stories, supporting each other and speaking openly about the morning after pill, we can stop women feeling isolated or ashamed by this experience. To share your #MyMorningAfter Story, visit: www.mymorninga....
