  • In this video, I compare the Amazon Echo Studio with the Apple Homepod.
I compare the features on each as well as completing a sound test between the 2 devices. The sound test is only as good as my microphone and your speakers but it should give you an idea of how the speakers will sound. Hopefully, by the end of the video you will be able to decide which is the better device for you.
I have left sound tests with the following genres of music, all of which I will timestamp.
    Dance - 3:54
    Classical 4:24
    Electro 5:54
    House - 5:55
    Country - 6:40
    Hip Hop - 7:08
    Jazz - 8:03
    Latin - 8:45
    Reggae - 9:22
    Rock 10:09
    Acoustic - 10:52
    R&B - 11:36

*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*

Through hi-fi headphones: Echo Studio has clearer, more crystal-like, more melodious, more vivid and more 3D sound, overall more balanced sound. Homepod has smokier and softer sound with stronger bass.

The Echo Studio is listened to more depth, but the home pod with more clarity. Maybe it's a question of perspective because the Echo has the horns to the front and the home pod up.

I just got the echo studio today. And when I first heard it my jaw hit the floor. It has better sound than the Apple speaker. And it definitely has better sound than my Bose soundbar. I don't know how Amazon Echo is doing what it's doing. But the sound is absolutely jaw-dropping. Especially when you use Ultra HD FLAC music, or 3D music from Amazon's music app, I don't know how it makes music move around the room, but it does. Just an absolutely crazy beast of a speaker for a small size. Bass hits pretty hard

Well when the HomePod was at it's original price, the studio would have been the choice. Now that home pods can be had for $199 they are the clear winner. Aside from the sound being better, the build quality comes across as tighter and higher quality. I have 6 home pods and have been mostly pleased. Siri still sucks vs Alexa.

    True story...
So my wife is a very proper lady. Doesn't swear, uses good grammar, always dressed prim-n-proper, etc. She's a stay-at-home mom, bakes pies and whatnot, takes care of me and the kids. One weekend afternoon she comes down the stairs and sees me unboxing two Apple Homepods (white). The conversation was as follows...
Her: Is that a new Sonos speaker?
Me: No, it's an Apple speaker.
Her: Is there something wrong with our Sonos speakers?
    Me: No.
Her: Apple designed a speaker to look like toilet paper?
Me: Nevermind the appearance. I'm testing the sound quality.
Her: Ok, let's here it then.

Her: It sounds like shit. Please get it out of my house.
    Me: Yes ma'am.
    THE END

I have 2 Studios, 2 Homepods, and 2 Google Max. The Studio outperforms the Homepod and Max in every way, IMO. And for that price, I think the Studio will be the death of Homepod and Google Max. Once I paired the Sudios with the Sub...wow, that's just another level the Homepod or Max cannot achieve.
With all that said, I still prefer my Sonos Play:1's, Play:5's, and Playbar's w/Sub over any of the aforementioned smart speakers. Sonos is at another level, but it is nice to see they're getting some competition from Amazon, Google, and Apple.

This is a really good comparison demo. I’m listening to this through my RME UCX audio interface connected to my Focal CMS 650 active monitors, both expensive kit that I use for music production. The Homepod sounds far more natural and less tiring than the Echo and IMHO is the better sounding amd the one that I’d prefer.
However, it seems that the Echo is far more flexible in what it can connect to and is much cheaper than the HomePod in the UK, so it comes down to the trade-off between better sound quality so long as you'rr in the Apple world, or more flexibility in connections but a less rewarding sound in the Echo, again IMHO.
