Sori says she likes the song..... You should have her watch the video now XD The video served as this albums means of killing their last personas (masks) and bringing in the new.
Single video, many meanings. Facing the future with the loss of PG. The death and rebirth of the band through their new personas. I'm sure you can read more into it as well.
Vin and Sori seem so intuitive... I feel like Vin is really good at connecting the dots and Sori has some amazing flashes of insight. As always, I enjoyed the analysis!
The bit she came up with about Master of Puppets being heavy/nice/heavy as a sort of reflection of need/high/need is something I never thought about, but dammit, it works.
The way I've always understood this song since the first time I've heard it, "the devil in I" was about Cory's anger and rage over Paul's death. And how this song was, in a way, his accepting the fact and sing the song to get over the grieving process for himself.
Taylor explained the song's meaning: "'The Devil In I' is really about the war inside yourself," he said. "Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up basically. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest things you can do, is to give into that side of yourself."
Dude, Vin, bro... pal... dude you are so underrated. Your ability to not only interpret your meaning of the songs' lyrics but to articulate it in such a way where the everyday normal Joe can actually feel your feelings is truly amazing. All I can say really is just keep thinking and speaking. lol Much Love -Sean
I think this song is more about Paul Gray's wife. She had blamed them for playing a part in Gray's death by not trying to help him enough, and I believe this was their response. That "Once you realize he wasn't about ti get help, didn't want help and wouldn't let us help more than we did, you'll realize that is what he wanted. We're not your devils anymore."
I've been following you guys since day 7 or 8 when I discovered you by accident. Lol. You two never disappoint. Love you guys and happy for all of the good things happening to you.
I really hope that Vin and Sori read this. I am absolutely in love with the two of you. As you've probably been told you guys are such a warm breath of fresh air when it comes to humans and their religions. All religions aside, I wanna express my admiration for the both of you for opening up your musical tastes. Too many times have I been demonized for liking this kind of music. You guys are keepin it real. Real metal. May Yawea bless the both of you, till he calls you back. 117!
Taylor explained the song's meaning to The Pulse of Radio: "'The Devil In I' is really about the war inside yourself," he said. "Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up basically. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest things you can do, is to give into that side of yourself." And that you can have fun. Crahan also explained at the song was about "finding past devils, past things, becoming one with it, and doing away with it."
In each video I watch on this channel, I'm amazed at what you two get out of each song. I almost feel as if I wasn't listening the first 20,000 times I listened.
Fun fact that no one noticed: He says 9 times "See the devil in I" one time for each member of the band. :D (The more you know) Also Vin needs to grab the album deluxe edition with the 2 bonus songs in it, it's really worth getting it and listening to it. :]
I've never found such insightful reaction vids so far. Actually I'm not native English speaker(oh, hello from South Korea) so I just can't catch the lyrics or meaning of the most songs I listened to. Watching your video gives me a time for thinking about various topics, really appreciate it.Please do more and more. PS. Once I was christian because my parents were, but since many disappointing moments occurs in my church, I stopped going church and became very skeptical about christian. But recently, my view is slightly changing thanks to you.
The song “XIX” from that album is the opening of the album and totally dedicated to Paul. You should see the music video, totally creepy and directed by Shawn”The Clown” as a funeral eulogy. They actually burn the body in the video. Though lyrically, “Killpop” and “The Negative One” are my favorite songs off that record.
Vin and sori, I truly love your take on the music and bands I love! This is one of my favorite songs from slipknot! Corey taylor rules! Love you both!!!
I remember researching and finding out that this song had to do with the band members moving on from paul's death as a band, in a sense killing off their earlier selves (as seen in the music video), in order to rid of those demons (hence the devil in I, 'Im not your devil anymore'). It was about killing who they were, releasing those demons, being free of them, and moving on as a unit from paul's death so that they could make music again.
Love this song. I saw them live (unfortunately Clown couldn't travel) and this song lifted the roof. Everything went up another level. Definitely up there with my favourite live performances I have been to.
i really love yall's channel. not an avid christian but its nice to see people like you appreciating music for what it is and not just writing it off as devil music.
Paul wasn't just "playing the bass", he was the main composer of this band, with Joey, who got kicked out a couple of months later. So nothing of the old Slipknot remains but a shell. The heart is gone.
Thanks for this awesome reaction! This album has a few gems you should explore it more, Keep up the good work! Suggestion: Nomadic or The Negative One - slipknot
The song is about the struggle of dealing with the grief and anger and all the other emotions that came with Paul's passing as well as Paul's struggle with addiction.
Corey Taylor explained the song's meaning to The Pulse of Radio: "'The Devil In I' is really about the war inside yourself," he said. "Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up basically. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest thing you can do, is to give in to that side of yourself."
Custer and Killpop were my favorite tracks on this album.. Custer was the closest thing we can to the Iowa album in a long time. So it was a treat for me.
babowman3 haha, yeah.. Iowa was a ball are angry and sad feelings with the music to match. I can definitely see why it's too much for some people. There's some definite gems once you get there though. :)
I love your reactions the most cause you don't interupt the song at all. I like when I can listen and enjoy it watching you both enjoy it and you take your time to give your input afterwords. I love it. Keep up the good work. Just on the topic of the newer slipknot music ya'll should check out "If rain is what you want" off this album. It's also a great song. Thanks
Although I appreciate the music and the types of emotion behind each part, I like part 2 way better. I like heavier stuff mostly, so I tend to prefer the songs written from anger rather than sorrow, although I understand and appreciate both connections.
This is a very harmonic and clear rhythm. You’ll have to listen to a few more by Slipknot to know for sure if you like them. I recommend Before I Forget, Duality, PsychoSocial, and Dead Memories
So, you've done all the bands in the big 4, how about trying on some other thrash bands i.e. Flotsam and Jetsam: Doomsday for the Deciever, Overkill: In Union We Stand or Horrorscope, Kreator: Betrayer, Forbidden: Step By Step, Death Angel: A Seemingly Endless Time. Sepultura: Desperate Cries, Testament: Legions of the Dead or Dog Faced Gods.
The riffs in this tune are top notch 🤘🤘 Something new for you lovelies to check out Napalm Death "when all is said and done" 😁🤘 P.S. looking forward to your chat with Mr.Ra (hope you talked about metal 😉) x
The song is about them killing their egos, because that had began to grow out of control egos. thats why in the music videos, they are wearing their masks from their last album cycle
I agree, this song is about friendship/kinship.few times this song I sense is about a moment when the brand might've broke up.if that make sense This album came out, during a real shitty time I had going on. you guys should do Nomadic,Cutter,If rain is what you want and Mostly important The Burden(that song really helped me)
Hello Vin and Sori, I'm registered on the channel and I really like it when they make a reaction to the Slipknot songs. I'm from Brazil and short the channel.
I’m always impressed with how much you two manage to accurately pick up from lyrics. You’re both very intuitive, it seems. As for it songs, it’s a great live track but I have to admit I find it a little boring after a few listens.... it just doesn’t have the depth and layers, instrumentally, of some other Slipknot songs that have been singles.
Paul was basically like Cory's brother so it hit him very hard and it showed in this album by the anger in it. Cory wanted to blame himself for a while by saying why couldnt i see how bad things were him but in the end he saw it was just Pauls demons inside that Cory couldnt help
Dimmu Borgir - Serpentine Offering Me and that man (any song) Demon Hunter - Storm the Gates of Hell Impending doom - Death. ascension. resurrection Johnathan Davis - What it is Devin Townsend - Stormbending King 810 - Trauma Model
There's a song called " Goodbye " on the album all about Paul and his death and when it actually happened, it's pretty sad but you guys should react to it !
many thought this song was about Joey the drummer who had left the band/was kicked out of the band. but corey said it had nothing to do with him so those rumors died out pretty quickly. and since the somewhat recent interviews with joey were he went into detail about the circumstances of his departure from the band no one is blaming joey or the rest of the band anymore. he had a disease that rendered his legs basically useless and no one knew what it was until late after he was no longer part of the band. and now he is healed and has his own band VIMIC and is part of a super group called Sinsaenum.

Dissection - Maha Kali...its a song about Hindu goddess of time and death. Considered to be consort of Mahakala god of consciousness, the basis of reality and existence.
Maha Kali will make for an excellent song to react to given the lyrical analysis. It fits into a similar vibe as Watain's Waters of Ain as well, both ultimately cover the Chaos-Gnostic view of death. In the case of Dissection it is also something of a suicide note, as it's the last track off their Reinkaos album, and Jon killed himself shortly after.
Could we add "Stay" by Cradle Of Filth to the list? It's a cover of a song originally done by Shakespears Sister. Not a lot of cover songs can be labelled 'as-good-as' or better than the original. But this one does it proper. Very warm and theatrical.
Ah man I felt the same way when Dimebag was shot. Absolutely devastated by it. I still struggle to watch docos that contain interviews with his friends and band mates talking about it.
MGLA - MDLOSCI I You guys need to react to this. One of the greatest bands I’ve ever heard, and honestly, if you listened to this song, youd expose them to a lot of new listeners. They deserve it. Crazy stuff.
Vin get the album my friend you wont be disappointed and a great tribute to paul.
SuperClarky the grey chapter is one epic album
Sori says she likes the song..... You should have her watch the video now XD The video served as this albums means of killing their last personas (masks) and bringing in the new.
oxcom76 Yes, i wanna see her reaction then :D
oxcom76 I thought the video was about the band facing their fears
Single video, many meanings. Facing the future with the loss of PG. The death and rebirth of the band through their new personas. I'm sure you can read more into it as well.
been sayin they should put the vids on the side synced
oxcom76 that will be hilarious XD

The bit she came up with about Master of Puppets being heavy/nice/heavy as a sort of reflection of need/high/need is something I never thought about, but dammit, it works.
And their first single after Paul’s death was The Negative One.
The way I've always understood this song since the first time I've heard it, "the devil in I" was about Cory's anger and rage over Paul's death. And how this song was, in a way, his accepting the fact and sing the song to get over the grieving process for himself.
jerry barnes it isn't though..
I thought it was about fighting away demons
jerry barnes it’s about changing them selfs
Yes about Paul's death, like post
It's both really, how you look at it
Bloody brilliant review guys, love this band .. MAGGOT 4 LIFE! 🤘🤘

Rip paul grey. You wil be missed but not never ever forgotin
**GRAY**
I think this song is more about Paul Gray's wife. She had blamed them for playing a part in Gray's death by not trying to help him enough, and I believe this was their response. That "Once you realize he wasn't about ti get help, didn't want help and wouldn't let us help more than we did, you'll realize that is what he wanted. We're not your devils anymore."
You should watch it with the music video
the reason they dont do that is becuse they dont want the songs meaning to be spoiled for them.
No the reason they don't is because it will be taken down by RUclips
Fingers!!
Love this song, it's really cool watching you two get into a song.
I've been following you guys since day 7 or 8 when I discovered you by accident. Lol. You two never disappoint. Love you guys and happy for all of the good things happening to you.

Whoa
Never picked that, thanks
I see you Bro never noticed 🤘🏽🤝🏽🥸🔥
They also had a new drummer on this album. Joey was "let go" from the band some time after Paul's death.
Wow, i'm so jealous that you got to meet them!
Love this song....one of my favorites for sure!

Truuuuuu
I was listening to a podcast the other night, I forget which one, they said fo sho and I started rolling my ass off.
Vin and sori, I truly love your take on the music and bands I love! This is one of my favorite songs from slipknot! Corey taylor rules! Love you both!!!
Just discovered and watched nearly 3 straight hours of this channel ending in this video. You guys are awesome! More Christians like you please.
You guys are so freaking cute!!! Not only that but you have the most in depth reviews and reactions I have ever seen on youtube. Thanks for posting!
Music is my drug and Slipknot is my dealer 🤘🏻
I remember researching and finding out that this song had to do with the band members moving on from paul's death as a band, in a sense killing off their earlier selves (as seen in the music video), in order to rid of those demons (hence the devil in I, 'Im not your devil anymore'). The slow song "Goodbye" on this album is a tear jerker... great reaction VinSori..

Sori will love Sulfur!!
Loved ur reaction....u both r really enjoying that song ....
Thank you for doing a video on this slipknot song I was hoping for a while you would do this great video
Custer and Killpop were my favorite tracks on this album.. Custer was the closest thing we can to the Iowa album in a long time. So it was a treat for me.
Rudy Hernandez I love Killpop too. Iowa was a little too hard for me, but I’m getting there lol
Hey Rudy have you seen the live Iowa from knotfest?
babowman3 haha, yeah.. Iowa was a ball are angry and sad feelings with the music to match. I can definitely see why it's too much for some people. There's some definite gems once you get there though. :)

Oh maann same. That would be amazing.
Skeptic is my fav off this album!!! You 2 Rock!!!
Joey also is no longer a member of the band and that could be the reference at around 30 to 31 minutes
I can't tell you how ecstatic I am that you are doing more Amon Amarth. Really can't wait!
My 3 year old niece absolutely loves this song and the music video. She calls it 'her song'
You guys are awsome, love your work! Keep it up.
Hey Vin and Sory!

Lol I just found you two and love you already! When yall both started rocking out I laughed. \m/
Lol !! Welcome !!!
Yall should react to Leo Marachiolli. He does metal versions of different songs. Think yall would dig him.
I was wondering when you guys would react to The Devil In I about an hour ago and now I see this.
Slipknot una de mis bandas favoritas! Saludos 😃🇲🇽❤️🇺🇸
You guys make my day with your vids
Y'all loved the song!!
I agree, this song is about friendship/kinship.few times this song I sense is about a moment when the brand might've broke up.if that make sense

Hello Vin and Sori, I'm registered on the channel and I really like it when they make a reaction to the Slipknot songs. I'm from Brazil and short the channel.
This song got me into metal. Such a powerful piece of art, I still love it to death
man I'm new to your channel love how ya explain ya emotions about the song's

You should really look into Snuff from Slipknot, Coreys Voice comes out amazingly in that song
Deafhevean - Canary Yellow
Deafheaven - Honeycomb
Both are amazing, beautiful pieces
Paul was basically like Cory's brother so it hit him very hard and it showed in this album by the anger in it. Cory wanted to blame himself for a while by saying why couldnt i see how bad things were him but in the end he saw it was just Pauls demons inside that Cory couldnt help

Love this song. Check out the official video because it's really something. Not for the faint of heart.
Love your reactions. I subscribed 👍🏻
Whoa, I bet Sori will LOVE this video.
Happy Father's day, Vin!
Reminds me of the morning I checked my news feed and read about Wayne Static's overdose. I cried my eyes out. Static-X got me through hell for years.
Apocalyptica - I'm not jesus ft. Corey Taylor
YES!!! THIS IS AN EPIC SONG!!!
Yes!!
Sori, you're amazing, you listen to like everything I do
Sweet!!! -Sori✌🏻
Slipknot did til we die live at a concert in 2011 and it was dedicated to Paul they had his coveralls, bass and mask on stage.
I am so stoked that Sori is a Slipknot fan. Close to being a "maggot"? Rock on you two!
Heh, caught myself bobbing my head at the same time as you both. XD
You gotta react to the video, it compliments the song so well with the band members wrestling with their inner demons. Maybe a live show you can do it and some other requests.
Dissection - Maha Kali...its a song about Hindu goddess of time and death. Considered to be consort of Mahakala god of consciousness, the basis of reality and existence.
Interesting. Gojira made a song about Maha Kala too, called "Mouth of Kala".
yessss please been requesting dissection forever!!!
Between the buried and me "Ants of the sky".
Orange Man not a bad choice my man.
Orange Man nice Troll attempt.
Yes!
Fates Warning
This Album is one of my favorites of slipknot it's just has so much emotion behind it
Lol Vin has the same reaction I do when I hear this song!
Could we add "Stay" by Cradle Of Filth to the list? It's a cover of a song originally done by Shakespears Sister.
Not a lot of cover songs can be labelled 'as-good-as' or better than the original. But this one does it proper. Very warm and theatrical.
Paul Grey was the Bassist of SLipknot and founding member of band
Ah man I felt the same way when Dimebag was shot.
Absolutely devastated by it. I still struggle to watch docos that contain interviews with his friends and band mates talking about it.
This is with the new drummer who happens to be the son of the drummer in bruce Springsteen's e street band. Must be in the genes.
MGLA - MDLOSCI I
You guys need to react to this. One of the greatest bands I’ve ever heard, and honestly, if you listened to this song, youd expose them to a lot of new listeners. They deserve it. Crazy stuff.
