This beautiful woman weeping was the best reaction I've ever seen
Amen
Some people can hear everything that went into the performance
@@randyjohnson805 i can
If I didn't already know the song it would have made me cry, but Disturbed's version does give me chills every time I hear it
Sori's reaction actually brought tears to MY eyes. Epic song, amazing woman.
Jesus Christ, Sori's reaction to this song is exactly what the Internet was made for. No words needed, just tears. That's how you know a song can move you.

There is something ineffably beautiful about watching someone moved to tears by art.
Thank you, Sori.
Aww ur welcome❤️-Sori✌🏻
Its why I think reaction videos are so popular. We want to see the humanity in other people.
Indeed! Genuine emotion is powerful. I was cool until 4:18, and then between the song and the strong reaction to it, yep, got me too. Thanks for posting this.

OOOOrrrrah... bro.
I am a 70 year old Great Grandmother, had never heard of Disturbed, I have watched at least 11 reviewers just this afternoon of this song. Each and every time I hear it I get goose bump and tear up. There is something in the way they have done this song that is so very touching. I decided to listen to more of thier music because of the choices in songs.
I'm 78 grandmother and I've been listening and watching this for the last few days and I get chills, goosebumps, forget to breathe. People say Simon and Garfunkel sent a message but Disturbed is yelling because nobody listened. WOW They are now.
One of the most beautifully honest reactions to this song I've EVER seen.
you're right buddy)
They are beautiful people.
She FELT that song! That's when you know it's an amazing song
I'm not sure how anyone could NOT feel that song, lol. It's amazing and gives me goosebumps and chills! My mother-in-law played that song a lot when my husband was a boy and when I showed him Disturb's version of the song, he immediately loved it as well. It's amazing and wonderful and DEEP!
I had the same reaction she did. Seeing her react that way made me go again lol. Great reaction.
It's amazing how Disturbed remade this song I grew up on and the passion they put in blew Simon and Garfunkel version away.... Best reaction I've ever seen she gets into music like alot of us do she had me in happy tears 😊💯
Outstanding review bravo 👏👏👏
This singer David, was raised Orthodox Jew. He was trained in classical singing. I believe the original song by S&G had a totally different meaning but it definitely is timeless. It can mean whatever you want it too. I have listened to every one on utube that has listened to this version and they all had a similar reaction as you guys. It does make you stop and think! One comment about you both. I hear you know the Bible but speak with some filthy words. Children may be watching and God knows all. Just sayin ✌️
This song will hit you hard when the at most down time you have in life.
How this gentleman just sits and respectfully listens to the ladies raw and vulnerable reaction was a thing of beauty to watch
I thought the same he's a good man with respect for her..
True story. Propers to this man. He gave her her space. If they're together, which really doesn't matter, but if they are, that's awesome. That's actually kind of exactly what the song is about. He's listening to what she has to say.
INORITE!?!
He sits there and stared off to the window or wall because he's already seen this 5 times. What's with that video? Kist stills? No wonder he found it boring. The real video to this production is flat out amazing.
Yeah. I can sense that like my husband, he might not fully understand why she is crying, much like my own husband, but he is willing to listen to why, just like my husband. I’ve seen one piece of entertainment make my husband cry. It was Sons of Anarchy, when one of the bikers died. He isn’t a cryer, but he had lost an old biker buddy right before that. He feels things deeply but expressed it differently. I get that Vin is much the same way. He sits like a stoic and thinks through his emotions, and puts them to words, but he always wants Sori to go first.
As a man who lives with bipolar and schizophrenia, it is a song that I put on when I start to lose the battles with my hallucinations or depression side of things. Sometimes both. It took me years to do it, but I found the strength to open up about my illnesses and I no longer hide them. It has cost me friends, because I refused to put up a poker face and play happy, but it has also kept me safe from myself. As I told someone else... it took me breaking the sound of silence and getting help that saved my life. When someone lives with depression in silence... they will die and it likely will be by their own hand.
#speakupforlee
May God be with us all.
love this response and love to you.
I know this response is a bit late but as a person who suffered suicidal depression for many years - and ultimately should never have survived the time I actually acted on it - I love seeing/reading/hearing about people who have battled through depression and manage to come out the other side.
Best of luck to you and it might not mean much but a complete stranger like myself is very proud of you for getting yourself better.
It means the same to me
God bless you ! I wish the best for you ! My daughter is a fellow sufferer!
Holy shit, she went to a very special place in her heart and mind thru this song. Art should move you this way. Nothing to be ashamed of. Its beautiful to see someone come to tears over an amazing talent.
It happens to me every time I listen to the scorpions " still loving you" that's exactly my state of mind pretty much
Slim C right on, let it touch your soul
Well said.
I cry every time I hear it. Im 81 and without a doubt it’s the most beautiful, moving song I’ve ever heard. I love the lady’s interpretation. I play it over and over.
Yes! Knowing what the song is "really" about is timeless - TV then, cell phones now... nobody communicates, but her interpretation brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful...
SAME here Mel, God bless you ♥️

Me too! Age 66 here.
Her's is the most pure reaction one can have to a song like this. It's a testament to David Draiman's voice. I'm a full grown man and when that song reaches apex I feel my chest grow tight, my skin prickle, and my vision waters. It really is a masterpiece of a cover of an already beautiful song.
You big baby. Me too. 😢
Me too I'm 30 years old an this song gets me
Me also. Superb way of describing your reaction, BTW
It puts me in a puddle of tears EVERYTIME!
David “the lead singer” said they covered this song from a perspective of anger at people for failing to heed the warning of the original song, that no one communicated with each other anymore, all they did was watch TV “the neon god”.. and instead of starting to communicate all we have done is replace tv with cell phones... he also said this was the hardest song he had ever sang... he is a classically trained opera singer, which sounds crazy for a metal singer haha... this was one of my fav songs as a kid in the 70s.. this and behind blue eyes by the who
He was trained as a cantor, not in opera. Cantors lead services and sing service music, and they may seem indistinguishable from a cantorial soloist, who may also do those things. Both may have very good singing voices, and both may have had extensive musical training.
The cantor, however, has something extra: a deep background in Jewish worship and Hebrew language, knowledge of both present and past liturgies, and training in leading and teaching a wide variety of Jewish musical forms. A cantor is clergy, qualified to officiate at all lifecycle events (weddings, funerals, namings) and to provide pastoral support.
You mean Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit. Haha jk

I didn't have any idea of the setlist, so when they played this short set of songs for suicide awareness, and this song came out I was frozen.
I couldn't see or hear anything else but David's powerful voice. Imagine a bunch of metalheads, with their cellphones or lighters raised, people crying, singing this song at one voice. It was something I will never forget.
I felt my chest warm and my eyes were literally crying.
Right at that moment this song became the best cover of a classic song I've ever heard.

It grabs you and doesn't let go and ther tears fall
This right here
@@BostonGemmieRocks you're exactly right! When they stop the video to discuss something they're not listening. And just like an everyday life we as people do it all the time to others and it's done to us . We have to stop the voices in our mind when people are you talking to us. This is how we can relate by listening. So the words of Silence is so true now as it was back in the 60s. Cuz back then like myself tune out and lost out.
the video can be taken down if they play it whole cause of copyright issues, alteast that's what I've heard.
That fact that she doesn’t even watch the whole video and just his voice can cause that type of beautiful reaction is powerful.
I really like this song by Simon & Garfunkel, but this version is a masterpiece
I think the song was appropriate for both eras.
The video is pretty good to go along with this version. His building of the tension and his visceral emotion is amazing. Really did the original justice.
@@MickSkitz -Yeah, I totally agree with you. I never really got the Simon and Garfunkel version. Their version is much lighter than the lyrics imply. I like their version but this version is EPIC. I love the vulnerability at the beginning and the anger near the end. Great song and great version of the song.
@robert tidwell Oh you mean this version that got endorsed by Paul Simon himself? You mean that one? God it must suck to be you...
It certainly is a masterpiece....I'm 75 and have never been brought to tears like when I listen to this incredible gentleman...

We have built a gigantic, neon idol to ourselves. We don't really notice that other people exist anymore, we have built a massive cult of consumerism without realizing that we are losing our humanity.
When it says the people bowed and prayed to the neon God they made, I think of a billion people bowed staring at their phones... you're welcome.

@@darthdeluxe_1 Everyone has their song. For me it's My Old Man from Zac Brown. But she clearly feels the tone and lyrics of this song in her soul. Hurt is another good one. Nine Inch Nails did it originally, which I'm sure you know, but Johnny did the same thing as Disturbed and changed that tone and gave it another emotion.
Brad MacMillan OK...But i also dont like the voice of the Disturbed Singer.
Tastes are different.
Why does nobody know Simon and Garfunkel? Every reaction to this song, nobody knows where it comes from.
Jason I know right?!
Jason I agree. I don't even care for their music it's not my taste in music but I know they are an iconic duo.
Yeah it's pretty weird. Odd lack of music vocabulary.
Might as well ask why I don't know the songs my parents listened to and why they didn't know the songs of their parents did. People have a bad tendency to dismiss or ignore what is already there. Unfortunately a lot of people have the attitude that anything that is not new is "old hat".
Jerry D I'm the opposite. I've always had an interest in what music my parents like even if I don't care for it. To me learning old hat is knowing history.
This remake is by far the BEST I've ever heard. You can tell how awesome by the "silent" reaction when it ended. That's REAL people! This song will get right into your soul!
Not just his voice but the meaning behind the words. I love this
Couldnt take my eyes off of Sori from the moment she started to struggle with emotions and the tears streaming down her face is just beautiful. Probably most of us got that same kind of feeling the first time hearing this song, and the 100th time aswell really.

"Simon and Garfunkles version was a warning.
Disturbeds version is rage because the warnings were ignored

Yeah, that's a fantastic perspective.
Well
When the song was originally written... Simon had a dream, where he saw People bowing and praying to a neon god, which he explained in the lyrics and he wrote the song to warn against it's coming...

And it still is to this day. Her reaction broke me.
That moment in the third verse when he goes up an octave is one of the greatest moments in musical history. Got me the same way as Sori.
Garfunkel once summed up the song's meaning as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other.
5:09 is literally the most perfectly timed moment in reaction history
Perfectly timed in that it wasn't...but I get you! It's stunning to watch.
Wow! You couldn't time that tear better! Awesome song - awesome reaction/review
Haha I was thinking the exact same thing!
I agree
Either one of you's with no good music if you heard it. Great song. Are you two clowns that don't know it was a cover song from Simon & Garfunkel give with the programs or quit doing this you have no Talent whatsoever and you don't have a right to criticize. Because you really don't know what music is
First the voice grabs you. Then the lyrics. Then the orchestration. Then the incredible build-up to the climax, and then the final quiet words, and you sit there in awe. What a masterpiece.
Showed my father in law this. He saw Simon and Garfunkel sing this live and this blew him away! He plays it at every family get together now
Simon & Garfunkel are the original artits. Paul Simon wrote it in 1964. He said in an interview that the song is about peoples inability to communicate with each other, not internationally but on an emotional level a d so all around us we see people who are unable to love each other."
He wrote it in 62 when he was 21. That quote is Garfunkels.
And it`s still going on to Day, maybe even more so
It's what makes this version more poignant to me, Simon and Garfunkel gave us a soulful warning but we ignored it - so Disturbed force us to listen to the message so we cannot ignore it any longer. It's a powerful 1-2 punch and I think that's why it's so emotional and effective.
Superb cover, superb reaction.
the death of jfk had a hand in inspiring its creation if i remember correctly.
and part of what turned me hermit, is the inability of people to communicate, i dont count unclear, suspect "Communication" as it is easily missed or mistaken, i tired of being treated like shite because, im not a mind reader, and wont just go along to get along, when people are being idiots.... reguardless of what "Side" they are on or "tribe" they are part of... bah....
Chris Ormie For me, the Disturbed Cover is the most Boring Song i know.
This had me in tears with you Sori, beautiful cover, Disturbed made a good job
Dj Vianu -Simon loved this remake and applauded Disturbed.
It's like "Hurt" for a younger generation. I grew up on NIN, but that's Johnny's song now. I have much respect for S&G, my parents taught me well, but this is David's song now.

The first time I heard him sing this song, it chilled me to the core of my being, that a hard rock/heavy metal artist could take a 1960s folk song and make it his own is absolutely fantastic, his power, his passion, his intensity, his incredible range, his ability to make you feel the music, he is a musical genius, pure and simple.
When he sang the verse "Like silent raindrops fell" as a tear streamed down Sori's cheek.........WOW! That Broke me Bro!
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Do it. BUT you have to do the music video not the lyrics only. Big difference on the delivery of the song.
This is incredible song, one of the most moving I've ever heard.
The original is better imo
Singer of nine inch nails is quoted to say it's no longer our song, upon hearing mr Cashes version.
The original is from NIN, but Cash version's better.
Matias Dimter they are both very great
And I have heard this song hundreds of times performed by Simon and Garfunkel. But as a 50 yrs old man I shed a tear every time I hear this version. It's that powerful and deep song and Disturbed version
really emphasizes the meaning of the lyrics and message behind it.
Paul Simon phoned Disturbed to tell them that this was the best cover of his song that he ever heard.
“Probably don’t have a clue what it’s about, but I have my own story”
That my friends were s the power of timeless songwriting with beautiful voices. We just have to learn to listen again . Beautiful reaction by her. Stunning rendition by Disturbed.
"…we have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people.
This is a song about the inability to communicate."
-Paul Simon
I would have liked to hear this with Lzzy Hale in a harmony situation. He's worked with her in the past, and they sound amazing together. Also, the original conveyed the same message without being heavy-handed, BUT! Paul Simon himself actually liked the cover, so I'll default to the author's opinion on the matter.
S Toy From a atheist perspective or a religious perspective or neither?
David Heller in general
From a Paul Simon perspective - his quote.
S Toy My take is that the original was a polite warning about the detached direction humanity seemed to be taking, whereas Disturbed version is angry that nobody heeded this 50 year old warning, hence the more heavy handed nature of it.
That's just my interpretation, though.
So in another 50 years it'll be remade by the descendants of A.C? :)
original is by simon and garfunkel. after hearing this cover, the writer (paul simon) contacted david draiman and told him how much he enjoyed the cover.
One of the brilliant things about this song is the duality of the two main themes. Both light and sound are shown in two ways. There's the light of the neon god, the grand distraction, versus the natural light that actually reveals the truth. There's the silence that arises from the screaming of the gears of our ephemeral empires, against the true silence where introspection can arise. The abject social isolation, the dehumanization of the technological, is clearly stated here, and has only grown more poignant as we go further down the road in the direction of the neon god. Solid 10. The great songs echo down the years, because they talk about experiences that will always be part of being human.
Patrick Tracy. Thank you for such an eloquent and accurate explanation.
@ Patrick Tracy "There's the light of the neon god, the grand distraction, versus the natural light that actually reveals the truth."
I like how you said that. That's exactly how I felt about that line.
And the DISTURBED versions video has instruments on an "ARK". And writing music script on old parchment with Ink pen. Could that be the concept that the Art of musicianship is becoming rare?
I find this song as a warning. Nuclear war was a real threat back in the 60s.
So well said, Mr. Tracy. Very perceptive view.
If you don't weep listening to this song, you were listening without hearing.
I can understand how his voice, could bring you to tears. He's remarkable.
As often as I've heard this, it still gives me chills.
I was around when the original was released and it had the same effect; Disturbed version is just as relevant and powerful. Absolutely awesome. Wow.
I think S&G version is more sad and this one is just haunting. I get chills every time I hear this song. 🐧🐧
Peggy Penguin Yup, S&G version was sad- back then there seemed to be more time for reflection. The Disturbed version’s power is in its raw nature; the video’s monochromatic styling was spot on. Chills? I’ve had a few too...
groundzeroken, me too. As an old hippy now, the original was soft and gentle reflecting those times of calling for peace and unity. This version equally reflects these times we live in. Outstanding.
I have taken both versions like this:
Simon and Garfunkel:. This is a warning of what we are becoming
Disturbed:. This is grieving what we have become.
@@peggypenguin7290 thats what David's voice does :3 his voice rainbow is amazing
Its crazy how lyrics 60 years later still hold true
More so
Especially as many of us talk on social media platforms like this one without a single word coming from our lips in the whole day. Filling the silence with the voices of content creators like these as a comfort. To make us feel some semblence of humanity in a world dominated by the neon god we made.
It’s ok, tears ran down my face the first time I heard this version of the song. I still well up every time I hear it
That was one of the most beautiful reactions to any song I have ever experienced, that was a honest reaction to a beautiful song that has been redone in a beautiful way.
Amen to that that is a true reaction
When he say no one dares disturbed the sound of silence. I thought he was talking about how people don't like to rock the boat with social norms, so they rather follow the crowd then be looked at as different or an outcast. The truth isn't relevant when the lie is more comfortable.
Yes they're called SHEEPLE NOWADAYS!!! THEY PRAY TO THE NEON GOD THEY MADE !!!
I know this video is four years old but your video hit me. Sori, bless you for your optimistic take and for your tears. Vin you hit the nail right on the head. To not know this song's history and pick out the difference in the flashing neon light and the naked light after your first exposure...wow. I'm struck by the emotional intelligence of both of you.
You nailed it! Everything I wanted to say but short and concise. He got it wonderfully and take was very interesting. Have not heard that reaction on any other Reaction, but is definitely a valid observation
I might be wrong, but I think that the song is essentially about a failure to communicate and free thinking:
The first verse basically was that the singer had a vision while sleeping... that is a dream... which is confirmed by the 2nd verses first line "In restless dreams I walked alone"
Then he realised he wasn't alone, there were 10,000 people, maybe more.. but they aren't talking, they are silent, well they may be talking but aren't saying anything, or at least not that anyone notices, because they aren't listening.
He then tries to break the pattern, by trying to speak and reach out to people, but no one was listening.
"Then the people bow and pray to the Neon God they made" - So they have ignored the person who was trying to teach them something, and instead they have created a god that is a neon sign (or a metaphor for a tv).... The Neon God I believe represents modern media... we created this, but worship it and look at it as our source for truth (This is reminiscent of the Golden Calf, a false god, from Exodus).... The sign said the words of the prophets are written on the subway wall and tenement halls.... these are again adverts, which are all over walls of subway stations and on buildings .... so the sign said truth comes from the adverts... The God we have created is telling us that truth comes from advertisements... promoting capitalism over trying to communicate with each other and helping each other.
So essentially this song is saying that commercialism and media is drowning out free thought.
Garfunkel once summed up the song's meaning as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other."
coach?
That is your interpretation. Not wrong or right.
A pretty good interpretation. The Neon God was the Television and advertisements that pull us away from thought and speaking to each other. The words of the prophets on the tenement walls and subway stations and buildings is the graffiti of the everyday person. Those are the true thoughts and emotions, not what is displayed by the media and advertising. When Simon and Garfunkle wrote this it was during the Vietnam era and the Peace protests. They had begun to feel that no one was listening any longer to each other, they were no longer willing to speak up. Feeling like it not longer mattered what they said. I grew up with social activist parents in the 60's. And this is one of theri favorite songs.
Yeah. That’s another take on it. I can see that too. Thanks for adding this interpretation of it. You can go many places with this song. What really matters is how it speaks to you. And thanks for sharing how it speaks to you.
Lost souls everywhere suffering alone not being heard, human connection isn't felt. We need to remember to put our phones away and look another human in the eyes. Have casual conversation, chance meetings. The truth is staring us in the face, and we have our heads down looking at our phones. Mental health is huge. There are trolls socially retarded and ignorant on how to speak one on one without distraction. The sound of silence for everyone now seems to be deafening. Because we've gotten used to all the noise. It's easier to deflect feelings and emotion. But it will end us
My Nana used to tell me a story. Always look people in the eyes and show human kindness. There was a homeless man on the street outside a store. She stopped asked if they needed anything and he softly said I'm hungry, she patted his dirty hand and said okay okay. We then proceeded to the store purchased food and then she stopped by her car and grabbed her car quilt for emergencies (as she called it) and knelt down and patted the man's cheek and said anything else sweetie as she gave him the quilt and bag of food. He was silently crying. He simply said the fact you didn't discard me as human was enough ma'am. But thank you so much for food and blanket. She reached into her coun purse and pulled out her " mad money" a fifty dollar bill and tucked it in his hand. And gave him a hug.
Later as I told my mom about the story she got angry saying that he could have hurt her, he would probably use it for alcohol etc. My Nana said softly " how do you know it's not an angel sent by God to see if we are paying attention?" I have taken that to heart my interpretation is every soul matters. Struggles that humans go thru can be life altering if not life ending. We all need help at some point. So I always give the benefit of the doubt if someone's playing or hustling me for money. If I can spare I do. You can usually look into the eyes and see the hurt. That's why people overt their gaze .
Anyway I ramble
So beautifully and truthfully said!! BRAVO!
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, one thing ive noticed is a lot of people will enlighten others like this and then apologize. Dare to disturb the sound of silence! Dont ever worry about what others will think of your methods, keep your humanity and try to remind others of theirs.
Your comment literally brought tears to my eyes and made me feel more human than i have in a long time. It was a good reminder
Yep, Trolls who cant form a valid thought of their own, think for themselves. FEEL for anyone but themselves. They then use meme's, emoji's and parrot what's being said on TV news, or from their favorite politician. Most people who are mentally ill, are usually those who feel things the most deeply, get hurt very easily by something that mostly has nothing to do with them. Thus is why/how we become mentally ill. For me, personally? I can shut that off? But then I feel like most everyone else and I don't want to be like most everyone else. So I hurt right along with people I don't even know. Isn't that what being a human being is all about? What separates us from every other living being? ( though lately I swear some animals are beginning to adapt this human trait. Some are better at it, then humans are. )
I love that one of the first things you said was put our phones away. One thing that struck me listening to this song over and over again is that when Paul Simon wrote those words, cell phones didn't exist. He was lamenting then at the distance that was growing between people in the 60s. I've seen it said that the Simon and Garfunkel version is the whispered warning and Disturbed's version is the angry cry when the warning wasn't heeded.
At the end when they sat in the STUNNED SILENCE...i feel ya
In Italy we say” he sings with his heart in his hand”
I love that. In the US, we say he wears his heart on his sleeve when he sings.
People talking without speaking= texting
People hearing without listening= Watching TV/You Tube etc.
Sori, crying is EXACTLY what the emotion was MEANT TO EMOTE.
I love how you guys get it....thank you for taking the time to feel a 50 year old message that has BEEN IGNORED
Paul Simon was a VISIONARY that saw the future where modern day being a problem with being SILENT to others instead of gathering and enjoying others company and creating greater bonds between people.
There was no texting when this song was written though. About 40 years too early. But the wheels were in motion then with advancing technology and entertainment ruling people's lives.
Wrong song was wrote iij n early 60s long before texting
@@johnthorne4368 Paul Simon had a dream, and the song is a warning. It is literally in the lyrics of the song. So the year it was writtwn is not important. The message is timeless, but imagine it being so much truer now than ever. Which makes this persons comment more valid than ever.
@@MoMoMyPup10 Give it another thought. The song mentions it as a warning. Get it? The year this song was written is the least of this commenters worries. Its the message.
@@kinz581e5 yeah, that's what I said. I just clarified his texting part as well. Read the rest of my comment.
They played it on a veterans day, it broke my heart see a lot of them with tears in their eyes at the end of this Song....the horror they must seen in their past...
@love layne stfu
Sori, what a beautiful soul.
This is the nearest interpretation to Paul Simons analogy when he originally wrote it. David Draimans version brought this up to date and brought more urgency needed in human reaction. I cry every time I watch or listen to it. Loved your reaction.
I have to say Sori your reaction is what i looked like on the inside when i first heard this song! Amazing Reaction! by far my fav of any chan. ever!
This is the most genuine heartfelt reaction of this song ive seen you earned a subscription
I love how deeply Sori feels the music. I often get emotional listening to music of any kind. It can be so powerful.
Yes I feel some stuff sooo deeply! -Sori
Me too. I cry every single time I listen to this song, no matter how happy I am at the moment.
VinAnd Sori you NEED to listen to so far away and seize the day by avenged sevenfold, you will cry
Oh nevermind you did so far away
"Heavy Metal Singers Can't Sing," they said... David Draiman: "Here, hold my WHA_AH_AH_AH!!!"
Ohhh yeah. He blew that notion out of the water with this song.
The original was written by Paul Simon in 1964, when Simon was 26. He said the words came to him when the lights were out. The song was one of the first huge hits by SIMON & GARFUNKEL. Art Garfunkel was his childhood friend. When he heard this cover, he called David Draiman (Disturbed lead singer) to compliment him on this version of a song considered by many to be one of the greatest songs of the 20th century. Draiman said in an interview he was “dumbfounded” that Simon called him!!
I agree i think this song is the best cover i have heard ever and i listen to alot of music genres
Yes, what an honor to have the songs creator compliment you on your cover. I never thought a cover could be as impressive as the original and in many ways it's quite impressive that a heavy metal band would do their cover as a piano-based version compared to Simon & Garfunkel's acoustic guitar version. You normally don't associate hardcore rockers with piano-based music. David's voice was like listening to Zeus singing from Mt Olympus with vocal bolts of liquid lightning being cast down upon us from the heavens.
I must agree with you. And that is saying an amazing thing.
the og and the best i cant understand people who have not heard of them wtf have they been on mars?
When this song first came out in 64 it tank it wasn't till it was used in the movie that it became a hit and they re-recorded it and 65 and called the album The Sound of Silence
It's 2020 and I'm just now seeing this reaction. First, I love both of your reactions and what each of you took from the song. That was incredible and I believe this song can mean so many different things to different people.
When Paul Simon wrote this song he was actually in a dark bathroom. "Hello darkness my old friend " there was light coming from a streetlamp outside. He stated is was the best contrast of light and dark to write.
He said the meaning of the song is about communication or lack there of. You both hit on that part. And you are absolutely right on the neon God was about technology replacing communication. Neon lights had already been out for 40 plus years when the song was written but it was still an incredible attention getter. The sign flashing out its warning about the words of the prophets was in reference to there being knowledge and information all around you and you need to know where to look but with technology you won't see it when it's right in front of you. The original was definitely a warning to us all that technology would lead to us not communicating or truly being able to love each other. And we need to not get wrapped up in the technology. And look where we ate today.
People say Disturbeds version is anger because we didn't heed the warning.
It very well could be like their saying see it's going on right now
"The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
I was in London recently. Yes... yes, they are. Everywhere.
Were we never see them, until it's to late, again.
Vin, I loved how you saw in this, “God’s words” 💓
Sari, I appreciated your thoughts (sorry for your pain)😢
I too hear and listen... and have yet my own interpretation.
It truly is an individual experience.
That’s the beauty of a great song, and an incredible singer! 😇
Simon and Garfunkel 👍🏻 👍🏻
“disturbed” ....I think they brought this to a whole new level of intensity and greatness!😊
the most powerful song (version of a song) i've ever heard. the original was good. this is GREAT. The most moving song i've ever heard, due to who's singing it.
and your guys' reaction makes this even more powerful. your tears brought tears to my eyes lol. crazy how that works ;-) this song digs so deep, but your reactions makes it even deeper. great video. thank you.
Beautiful reaction Sori. It was touching to see you have that experience with a very moving song. I am glad you both enjoyed it. The intensity Draiman's vocals gives it is a different perspective from the original, but they are both good. Thanks!
Thank you❤️
Yeah. I remember thinking "I can't believe this guys singing is making me feel emotions that aren't rage." Very crazy display of vocal talent
its normally around 20% of the overall funds from the song. (ive monitored such cover contracts taking place.) however negotiations usually takes place over which part of the funds should go to where, so like album funds or just funds from the song, which depends on where the song is placed in the album. if it is the lead song to the album or near the end. and what amount of effort put into the song and how the owner of the song thinks about the cover.
I've spent the weekend watching and listening to this song and all the reactions. I cry every time. David's voice is epic. The band's version of this song is epic!
Try the Live in Houston version with Myles Kennedy as guest vocalist!!! The harmonies will BLOWW YOU AWAY!!!!
@@berniegiacobe7534 That was beautiful. I can't believe that could get any more powerful, but together they were amazing. Thank you for recommending it!
@@michelecalla928 Those notes that Myles hits just blow me away!!! I'm being repetitive but I'm in AWE!!!!!!!
Omg you two nailed it. Your experiences from the song were so different but so right! Vin nailed the meaning behind the song. Sori was affected by the song in a way that illustrated perfectly exactly how he logically described it. Touched.
Digo cosas diferentes porque puedo ber loque espresan uno hal hotro okey Dios lesbendiga siempre Amen 🙏
I cried like you Sori the first time i heard it. I took this song as prophetic, and people who are trying to speak truth, Nobody can hear because Technology that people worship or in place of divinity is the neon god people they have created and nobody dares goes against or speak against the snare that sucks up their time and minds. But as much as he tries to tell them, nobodies hears. Just imagine Subway walls Tenement halls and people with their crazy art and sayings.... Look a little closer. Read between the lines. Its about the truth being over shadowed by lies and the crap people put out there. Not you guys, you guys are awesome. LISTEN FOR TRUTH GUT FEELING TRUTH AND THEN SPEAK IT. That's what i got. ❤
me too Sally
I love this. Refreshing to see a reaction video where the people listen to the song and instead of muttering over it like self obsessed narcissists. Awesome video.
Wow.. loved the sincere reaction from Sori! This is how a reaction video should be like! No talking during the song and pausing it. Write down your thoughts (keywords) and tell them after, if you dont remember. Good job guys!
I think this is one of my most favorite responses to a video I've watched. David's vocals didn't just speak the lyrics, kind of like how the original did... he emoted them. He made you feel each word and the way it built up to the final notes... he took a good song right to GOD level.
Whenever Sori's eyes close, it's over. Done. "Destruction" achievement...unlocked.
3:37...I needed the timestamp =,)
Reading the comments and everyone is focusing on her reaction, and it's fantastic....but my man was feeling it just as much. His eyes started shining too
You Both got it!! And the breakdown you both give, is the message....great job
Ive watched many react to this video and various takes on its meaning but yours by far was i thought was the best and most well expressed. I am a child of the 60s and remember the original well and the profound meaniing then and how it is even more prophetic now.
Holy shit her description was just simply EPIC
Paul Simon saw the band performing this song on Conan. (You should check it out). He loved it! He was so touched by David’s performance that he reached out to him to express his appreciation. I’m not sure if others have posted this, but David has vocal training in opera. As Suri said, his voice is phenomenal!
This is a cover of "Sounds of Silence" written and performed by Paul Simon and Arthur Garfunkle in 1963. And I've hear that Paul Simon consider's David Draiman's cover of the song to be the best that has ever been done.
I LOVE your reaction to this song! The emotions, the deep thoughts you shared, the exchange with each other...all of it. Fantastic reaction! Thank you, and keep it up. ♡
Sori, you stole my heart when tears flow from your face! At first, i didn't like this cover but after listening to it multiple times I came around to it. Now, I wish I could share tears like you every time I hear it.
Awww thx I’m glad it was good for u.❤️-Sori
THIS IS how you listen to music. Best reaction video I've watched. Refreshing to see someone who can feel the song and not talk and " give advice" like all these " vocal coaches".
You're the first person I've seen mention those guys. "Vocal coach gives advice to Nightwish as they play in front of 85,000 people" shit cracks me up. Yeah, bro, Floor and Tarja have better range, technique and skill than you, you're not contributing anything by talking and trying (and typically failing) to harmonize with them.
Reaction video rant over.
Edit for the sake of not being endlessly negative: I dig these guys, not enough reactors actually say anything of substance, just make faces and sign off once the song is over. I disagree with some of what they say but it's dope that they say it either way.
It's not entirely like that.... If you're a professional in any field you tend to look at stuff in your field a bit differently. I find it interesting to see what they pay attention to... that being said you're right, giving advice to pros from your own couch is lame...
Always liked the original version but what disturbed did here is simply amazing. Can’t get enough of this song. I watched a lot of reactions for this song but I think yours is the most honest I found so far. Great job guys.
If you like this version. They did a version live with a singer called Myles Kennedy. He sang the other half of the duet along with David eraman (disturbed frontman) which was even more spectacular
True dat
First time I heard this song, I can only describe it as one if those moments where you realise you're witnessing something important. Or like... You're witnessing part of the "something bigger" that gives our lifes significance. Something you're otherwise too distracted to notice 98% of the time.
Over 50 years old and this song is still sadly so relevant, if not even more so.
The beauty of this song (specially Disturbed's "Powerful" version vs Simon & Garfunkel's "low-key" version) is that it affects everyone, and everyone see's different "dreams" and images - it gives everyone their own personal meaning to the song. While the original was intended as a warning against the rise of technology i.e. praying to the neon-god (television, social media, phones, ect - as technology/social media brings us "closer" together as a "collective" - in reality we move further and further apart as "humanity"), the power of the song and its lyrics touches everyone to their core. Why, How, doesn't matter - what you walk away with from it does.
OMG Sori..... I can't ever listen to that song without crying as well. Whether it be this version or Simon & Garfunkle.
Crazy!!! Glad I’m not alone!!! -Sori
I get goosebumps every time I hear this, and I’ve heard it a lot.
I cried too when I first listened ..Make sure to watch the live performance...It is epic...Loved your reaction....This song is really deep.
It gets me everytime I hear it.
The depth and meaning of this song can connect with anyone who has ever felt alone or lost. ✌
They both really GOT IT‼️🙏🏼♥️🌏🌺
She said it beautifully we all have our own story. Her reaction made me cry.
Love your reaction Sori. . .I reacted nearly the same way the first time I heard this version. It is easily my favorite cover ever. Even Simon and Garfunkel were blown away by it.
Jim Cotroneo Well, Paul Simon has said he really liked it. The Royalty check probably helped, but I don't think Paul is swayed that heavily by money when he has plenty.
Huh? Art Garfunkel is not dead......Where did you hear that?
J Sanders No freaking clue 😮 I had a momentary brain fade. 😨 I was thinking about someone else but I cannot remember who. Apologies to Art Garfunkel. I made proper edits... *smh at myself*
Yeah, they are both very much alive. :)
LOL. no problem. I was about to be sad.
I must say that Sori´s reaction to the song was beatiful, i wish i could connect myself to a song as she does. Amazing song to review, amazing vocals by David Draiman, he really gave his own touch to the song´s vocals
Thank you...it totally took me off guard-Sori
VinAnd Sori please listen to the original version by Simon and Garfunkel.
Think this is my favorite reaction to this song! Sori, I really love that you had the same reaction as I did when I listen to this version of the song. Vin, I really like the way that you think when you start explaining what you get from the music and, Sori's questions really brings out the coolness of your thoughts. You remind me soooo much of my best friend from the time that I spent in the military. Victor was the coolest friend and I really like the memories that you helped me tap into. We had a lot of the same conversations about life and God, VERY COOL!!!
THANK YOU WING NUT FOR SERVING
look at us (most today) staying and looking at their phones...We speak with out Speaking(texting) we no longer have intimate interaction..I went out to eat and watched families staring at their phones instead of talking with each other..so sad...cell phones and social media has made us all numb...so sad
