I hope you give Saturn a bonus subsequent to this interview. His brutal honesty is admirable. He has no skin in the game anymore, and not walking on eggshells with his interview.
He's always been a straight-shooter.

WSI is on a roll. The Scott Norton and Perry Saturn interviews have been pretty Epic. Hope you bring them both back in the near future. I always liked Scott Norton but didn't know much about him. I know a little bit more about Perry Saturn but he doesn't hold back and I love it. Both interviews were very interesting. If he comes back I'd like a little more detail on the fights between him and Bigelow in the locker room. I don't know if he meant physical or verbal or both. Well done James!

His friends were Jeff Marek and Chris Tidwell from The LAW. Story is they called Jimmy Korderas and filled him in, which lead to Bruce getting the call. It is actually pretty crazy how quick it all happened over a week/weekend

I love Saturn. Feel like I didn’t appreciate him enough while he was active but he should have been way higher on the card than he usually was.
wCw all the nWo had the belts and all the air time.
He did something when joining WwF and his character was a punishment, then he drifted Eddy and Chris never got the big push until it was to late
This interview with him amazing. I know he has this reputation of someone that had a lot of problems after his wrestling career, but seeing him here, he is honestly so fucking intelligent and funny and clear. Like there are meant to be genuine professionals in this business just now, but he has such an intellect and frankness, it’s just awesome

I also think Benoit wasn't holding that title for long especially after Kevin Nash came out at the end and said the clock is ticking. I think if they stayed Perry was right that they wouldn't be used well and probably losing more matches than winning so going to the WWF as a great call.
It was a great call because WCW was dead a year later and all WCW guys that came in after that were completely trashed
@@Spooky_515 yes definitely their product was going downhill and getting so bad. I'm glad they got in WWF before the Invasion storyline.
Of course Benoit wasn't holding that title long. There was around 25 title changes in WCW in 2000 so his reign had a 2 week expiration date.

Jim Ross said on one of his podcasts is that they (WWF) couldn’t have talked to Douglas even if they really wanted to, because Shane was still under contract & they didn’t want to cause any legal rumbles there; Ross said that everyone else were free agents & Douglas wasn’t. But the whole situation was shitty nonetheless….

@@sambarnett6996 He was Ecw world champ, ecw tv champ, ecw tag champ, wcw tag champ and wcw usa champ. Im not saying belts really mean that much but him being ECW world champ def made him a star. Ecw was more over than the wwf in the mid 90s.

I'm surprised they wanted Malenko. They gave him another gimmick. He knocked it out of the park. And then not only did they not give him a push, but they stopped using him.

He was about as interesting as a paint can.
He didnt need it. He was the iceman, they should’ve put that shitty light heavyweight belt on him and made some solid wcw style cruiserweight matches. Dean was awesome just being cold and silent
He did the creeper thing well so I think you mean that. Otherwise... The dude was done working. He mostly went to make sure he had a place as a producer afterward. He's still there today. That's why they wanted him I THINK. They knew the value of the man even though he was as over as onion ice cream with most people.

Saturn could've been easily used as a contender for Tag, TV, or United States titles. He had the ability in the ring even though his mic skills were meh.
He was a pretty decent TV and Tag Team Champion. I would've put him in the running for the US Title.
You can tell he feels bad about it but it kinda is what it is.

Funny how Sullivan doesn't see anything in Saturn when Saturn is a better version of Sullivan physically in ring and gimmick for the era. maybe if he could have just booked him as a Lucky Charms Cereal Character in Dungeon of Doom or something under his brilliant vision.
Meanwhile back in the real World Sullivan was a major draw in CWF and his character was so over as a heel Vince stole the entire gimmick AND storyline for The Undertaker in the late 90's ....

Saturn is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time**...I enjoyed Saturn's 1st and 2nd runs of shoot interviews. Im stoked that he's back for another run. I just hope hes getting paid what he is worth.
**I do think WWE eventually got lost with him...trying to do Al Snow/Head pt 2 with him and the mop was stupid and Perry Saturn in a dress was horrible. Theres nothing funny about that. That said...in the beginning with the Radikalz(or whatever stupid spelling WWE used)he was great, they all were. And he had periodic great booking in both WWE and WCW. Over all i have big love and respect for the man.

Vince McMahon had screwed over Shane Douglas in 1996. So, he had no interest in working for the WWF in 2000, and the feeling was mutual.
His shoots that I have seen has said otherwise.

Shame that Shane kinda had a bad taste in his mouth after his WWF run (and the WWF not being interested either), I'd imagine "The Franchise" Shane Douglas would've gone down fairly well in the Attitude Era, much better than Dean Douglas anyway! 🤣

Depends. If you're an ECW fan then he was a massive part of ECW. And his work from '94 until he went to the WWF and then when he returned and did the feud with the Pitbulls was excellent (particularly the latter). After that he worked injured way too much, got way too big from the roids and his promos got worse because he made it a point to just swear all of the time in them for the cheap pop. But during those timeframes I mentioned of Shane's peak, his in-ring work and promos were just excellent. And I go back to the feud with the Pitbulls when he was the hottest heel in pro wrestling.
It also should be mentioned that Shane was a locker room leader in ECW. He took time with so many of the younger talent to help mentor them and was really a positive force. Not many top guys in any promotion were ever like that.

I'm not 100 percent sure on this but I remember hearing something to the effect of Perry was trying to stop a woman from being assaulted/r**ed and got shot by some dude.
Perry suffered brain damage from it and started using narcotics and it was all down hill from there. The fact he's still alive is awesome.

I also read that Konnan wanted to go but he felt if he left,WCW would punish the remaining Lucha wrestlers for him leaving.
He had no option to go back to WWE he bailed on them after they invested a fair amount of money on his Max Moon gimmick and he left abruptly with no notice to go do a Mexican tela-novella soap opera
It was the Max Moon debacle as well as the fact Konnan was known in the business at this point for having a terrible attitude and constantly pulling the race card over every little thing.

So if they were drawing the line on guys like K Dawg and Douglas I'm shocked Dean made the cut because they light heavyweight division was never important in the WWF and it showed they didn't do much with Dean outside of the Radicals he held the light heavyweight title and biggest feud was with Lita

Malenko, for lack of personality and booking attention at wcw, was wildly popular. Everyone who’s ever spoken about him has the highest praises. His matches from around the world and with hundreds of different people and styles are all great. He’s also been known to mentor and help people. Why would wwe want to bring in a guy like that??

Shane Douglas was horrific in every character. His wwf run was horrible. His tough guy ecw run was a joke. His wcw run was one of the main reasons I started watching wwe during the war.
