It's not perfect and that's what makes it even better. They all seem so superhuman in all the videos I've seen. I think it makes you (me) appreciate them all the more.
I’m so grateful that I got to experience this at 9 years old. Wish I could re live it at 25. Susan and Derek are one of my absolute favorite artists. They’ve got the type of style that just makes your heart feel!
I love the seamless way Derek is able to, mid-song, remove his slide and drop it in his pocket for one solo, then in the midst, fret 2 strings with his right hand while retrieving the slide with his left hand, sonically, no one is the wiser. That's some tough sh*t!
I remember being madly in love with Susan Tedeschi for most of the 90s and being a huge fan of Derek for most of the early 2000s. They e two of my titans of the music I loved. This performance will always be a pillar of human existence, because I lost my skittles and was enamored with this performance. It was EVERYTHING. Not long after, Tedeschi Trucks was announced, and I was in nirvana. This was what music should be, the union of two absolutely legendary musicians. About that time, someone said.... "you know they're married, right?" and my universe collapsed. This is the best song TTB has ever done as far as I'[m concerned, because I equate this to the first.
@wasabiginger6993 they didn't start TTB until late 2000s, Derek was touring with the Allman Bros late 90s-2000s. It was Crossroads in like 07 that I first saw them do this song together (they were amazeballs on stage) then the official announcement of TTB was shortly after.
What a... "breaking glass and twisting knife" amazing cover of (only watching here proudly) Eric Clapton's 1970 hit. Vocalist Mike Mattison's strong expressive blues voice in full harmony with "The (Susan) Tedeschi (Derek) Trucks (blues rock) Band" leave us speechless with our ears and eyes wide open!
These guys are amazing. Saw them live a number of times, they're the real deal! 11 amazing musicians that seem to have a great bond. Derek's guitar style is so unique and emotional (also saw him play with the Allman Brothers); Susan's vocals touch the heart.
She is a NATURAL!..And plays the guitar , very effortless!.She has the perfect blues/southern rock voice!... She is real fun hell raiser, i am sure!... Thats why the Greatest Blues Musicians out There want her next to them!!......
this is incredible for so many reasons. seeing Susan's excitement and the love flowing from her is just beautiful. I'm so glad these two came together!
Derek’s first solo on this is straight up brilliant. I’ve come back to watch this dozens of times and I can hear that solo note for note in my head at this point. It’s not the most groundbreaking piece of improvisational guitar of all time. It’s not a 5 minute face melting solo. But he makes every note count and it’s sheer perfection. He starts slow and beautifully builds into a crescendo. And for a guy known for his slide playing, this is about as good as I’ve heard him and there’s no slide to be seen.
Susan got the best voice that I've heard in a long time and she's a new Englander. Always liked trucks and warren Haynes and always mr. Blue sky. They are the best, new band I've heard in the last 15 or 20 years.
EVERYTHING about this performance brings chills up my spine, goosebumps and tears to my eyes... ...but good golly... most of all as a big aficionado of great improvising on electric guitar... Derek Trucks just never ceases to amaze me just with his cool, soulful self.
Great performance. Having played the Layla album to death in college I always get goosebumps at 2:15. Drummer not paying attention misses Trucks' signal to start the wrap up at 5:59 and they go around another 4 bars before catching it.
I love how much she loves & appreciates the music & the history behind it all... The sheer look of delight upon her beautiful face as she watches her amazing husband playing guitar like none other. She knows there's something magical being made & rather than getting caught up in egos & fame, she's enjoying the ride along side her husband & band members. Not alot of bands like this today, a breath of fresh air!
I've seen Derek play this live with his band when he opened for the Allman Bros years ago and he plays both Claptons and Duane Allmans parts seamlessly. He also played co-lead for the Allmans that night. We have seen T-T Band live down in Wilmington NC twice at a tiny ampitheatre and they were great. They have like a 10 piece band and should not be missed.
At the beginning when they are just starting to get into the song they cut quickly to Bill Murray for a reaction shot. His expression is exactly the way I felt the first time I heard this.
One of Derek's tricks is that he grabs a blast of open notes between phrases when he's soloing. It makes you think the guitar is taking a breath. Love that shit.

Don't know if this counts for anything but I saw the original Allman Brothers Band in 1970 before the tragic deaths occured and that concert has stayed with me all my life
This performance still knocks me out every time. Perfection!
It's not perfect and that's what makes it even better. They all seem so superhuman in all the videos I've seen. I think it makes you (me) appreciate them all the more.
@@jimedwards7755 Agree, perfectly imperfect.🤩
Bill Murray says it all in his expressions best I've heard yet Thanks for the Great Music.
Love MMs lead vocal on this, just so happy 😃 thanks Mike!
Great singers, fabulous guitar(s) and love Susan's dress! Can't nobody beat "Any Day" any day!
I’m so grateful that I got to experience this at 9 years old. Wish I could re live it at 25. Susan and Derek are one of my absolute favorite artists. They’ve got the type of style that just makes your heart feel!
I love seeing the look on her face as Derek digs into the solo! Such an amazing band!
IT's nice that your main groupie happens to be in the band ... AND SHE'S YOUR WIFE!!
I do believe Clapton enjoyed it more than anyone! He should be very proud...timeless!
I love the seamless way Derek is able to, mid-song, remove his slide and drop it in his pocket for one solo, then in the midst, fret 2 strings with his right hand while retrieving the slide with his left hand, sonically, no one is the wiser. That's some tough sh*t!
Wow, what a great find! Back before Susan had their kids ... she looks so young & free! Thanks for sharing!
Was thinking the same thing ... and how I like her hair colored dark reddish ... wonder what year this was?
RIP Yonrico Scott and Kofi Burbridge, two of the baddest of the bad ass musicians ever.
What makes this video especially great is Clapton and Murray rockin out in the back
I remember being madly in love with Susan Tedeschi for most of the 90s and being a huge fan of Derek for most of the early 2000s.
Totally agree ... and so from what you are saying this concert must have been late 90's ... as their band was formed 1999 I think?
@wasabiginger6993 they didn't start TTB until late 2000s, Derek was touring with the Allman Bros late 90s-2000s. It was Crossroads in like 07 that I first saw them do this song together (they were amazeballs on stage) then the official announcement of TTB was shortly after.
I haven't seen this performance in 10 years. It's just as impressive now as then.
Amazing cover of a favorite song. I've watched this so many times and it just never gets old. Derek is brilliant and Susan is mesmerizing here.
+ebb tide The singing is absolutely top drawer. I watch this again and again...
I think I watched this twenty times.
Mike Mattison ruins this song though. 100% the wrong vocalist for this.
@@kevins.449 Cannot agree - It's a contrast to Susan.
Awesome performance and the chemistry on fire 🔥
These guys are amazing. Saw them live a number of times, they're the real deal! 11 amazing musicians that seem to have a great bond. Derek's guitar style is so unique and emotional (also saw him play with the Allman Brothers); Susan's vocals touch the heart.
Haven't seen them live but totally agree. Best band out there right now.
Covid 19 quarantine. Still amazing in 2020.
I will never understand these comments
Wonderful shots of Derek's hands in this video
My two favorite musicians in the world. So glad they got together and create such great music.
She is a NATURAL!..And plays the guitar , very effortless!.She has the perfect blues/southern rock voice!...
She is real fun hell raiser, i am sure!...
Thats why the Greatest Blues Musicians out There want her next to them!!......
Love bill Murrays shit eating grin during Dereks solo
this is incredible for so many reasons. seeing Susan's excitement and the love flowing from her is just beautiful. I'm so glad these two came together!
What!? The slide comes off? Assumed he was born with it.
JammastaJ23 1st solo is un freaking real
Even without the slide he's one of the most interesting and inventive lead players out there, imho.
I do believe Duane Allman somehow planted that slide in Derek before Derek was born!
I heard him say he started with the slide because it was easier than fretting as a kid with kid size hands.
Gotta say, and it doesn't happen very often, I really think Duane is smiling to hear someone is following in his footsteps.
+lebarosky I often say that it's like Derek is the second coming (of Duane Allman)
I think Derek has even surpassed Duane in a lot of ways!
+gdawgs101 let's not get crazy
Ryan Ryann Just saw Derek live in Atlanta in July. Religious experience!
Derek is awesome. But Duane was only 24 when he died. He would have owned the future.
When you play Clapton for Clapton and he’s loving it, you have arrived
There's 112 people with something seriously wrong ...I don't get it they're one of the most refreshing bands in a 30 year drought!
The solo is so soulful that i can't belive he never change expression with his face! What a master...
I've watched this video about a hundred times. I've come to the decision that it's fabulous!
Susan got the best voice that I've heard in a long time and she's a new Englander. Always liked trucks and warren Haynes and always mr. Blue sky. They are the best, new band I've heard in the last 15 or 20 years.
River of Tears
Susan went to the prestigious Berklee School of Music - she is no slouch.
Absoluty amazing. Fubby how the camera flashes over to Bill Murray enjoying it. They never disappoint.
Derek, all the best of the guitar lives in you. So well done. This band, these people....I'm in awe. Thank you.
One of my favorite songs on the Layla album, and to see Eric there watch'em and smiling made the show........ Great job. Wish I was there.........
Wow! What a lovely performance. Trucks guitar lead is mesmerizing.
EVERYTHING about this performance brings chills up my spine, goosebumps and tears to my eyes...
...but good golly... most of all as a big aficionado of great improvising on electric guitar... Derek Trucks just never ceases to amaze me just with his cool, soulful self.
Seriously great, great music and very cool vocals . Love this song.🥰🎸😎
Awe inspiring work by Derek, Susan and the band!
I now live every day hoping that I wake up and feel the way the drummer does at 2:23. If you don't watch this and feel happy, just dang.
Percussion is tight on this one! Susan's voice is amazing as always and Derek's playing was... informative as usual.
That's funny!!
Best touring band in America. I see them as often as possible. I've seen them 5 times in the past few years. Always a great show.
This gives me goosebumps every time I listen.
Great performance. Having played the Layla album to death in college I always get goosebumps at 2:15. Drummer not paying attention misses Trucks' signal to start the wrap up at 5:59 and they go around another 4 bars before catching it.
Can you say Skydog ( Duane )
reincarnated. Derick Trucks is amazing, as is Susan and their band...can't wait to see them again.
Even with all they have done together since, this is still my favorite. I would die to see them live.
I nominate Bill Murray for luckiest dang guy alive. There for the rest of us.
I just saw Susan and Derek and their band Aug 1. Incredible show as always. Looking forward to the next time.
Brilliant.
I found this song because of Layla back in the 70s, but loved it more....so much so it made it onto every 8-track or cassette tape I made.
bill murray is always seeing music i love it
I really like their sound and would love to see them Live .
Love this! This could be my Groundhogs Day! I see you Bill Murray!
AMAZING PERFORMANCE !!!!
At the beginning when they are just starting to get into the song they cut quickly to Bill Murray for a reaction shot. His expression is exactly the way I felt the first time I heard this.
His is an extension of what I grew up on. He has mastered his craft and is humble.....great rendition of this song .....D&Dominos
Everytime I listen to this song, it makes me want to play guitar all day long!
