- You’re watching a performance of “Space Captain” with Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi, Warren Hayes, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas and Chris Stainton from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival.
ARE YOU SHITTIN ME? I grew up in the Mad Dogs & Englishmen/Joe Cocker/Beatles/Stones era. I always loved this song. I never thought I'd hear a cover that could do it justice. Respect & Love.
Still can't get to cocker
Absolutely! They kept it pretty close to the original. Definitely did it Justice! Amazing!
Yep
Ever hear the Black Crowes do it?
me too nick....came across this by accident as they would say in the 70s "fukin" A man lol
Is there a better female singer then Susan I think not
Found her by accident. Went to see Buddy Guy in 1997. She’s amazing.
Warren Hayes & Susan Tedeschi voices rock together, what powerful vocal chords God blessed them with!
God didn't bless them with good voices, soulful voices come with time, practice, passion and in a lot of cases pain, it has fuck-all to do with religion.
Have you ever seen a happier, more psyched bass player than Oteil Burbridge, at 4:38 ??? ~ Jammin' out and gettin' down. ~ ( Oteil) … Sorry for the huge loss of your brother, the wonderfully talented keyboardist and flautist...Kofi Burbridge. ~~ RIP Brother Kofi ~~~
He plays with such joy. Every video I've ever seen of him! It's truly beautiful.
Oteil is carrying on the joy with Dead and Company 😊
Haynes gives a bit of the Cocker feeling to this on his vocals. Great band all around and a pleasure to see Chris Stainton still doing it with style.
Warren Haynes is underappreciated. Vocals and guitar--the whole package.
If I remember correctly Joe Cocker's keyboard player jumped in on this one that day! I love this tune!
Anything Susan touches sounds good. She never misses
Whenever I’m feeling really down, I listen to this about five times in a row and my mood is lifted. Love them all.
An amazing band paired with an amazing mix. It doesn’t get better than this folks. TTB are keeping great music alive, their mix of r&b and blues is so unique. The soul in their sound is unmatched. Susan Tedeschi is a great writer with an unbelievable voice. Derek Trucks, well, he’s Derek Trucks. The greatest guitarist of this generation, and arguably the greatest living guitarist, never ever fails to disappoint. He’s so technically proficient and has established his unique style, truly amazing. And of course, this husband and wife powerhouse recruited some fantastic musicians to play with them. True music lives people. Listening to the radio, most people are disappointed, as am I. However, all styles and genres have their gems. I’ve only recently discovered TTB and I can’t get enough. Love from Ohio.
I don't know why this group isn't more popular, she has an awesome voice.
Warrens awesome too! Gov't Mule kicks butt.
They live ... literally ... just down the road from one of my sons ... Very proud of these guys!
Vince Ferrante Tell me something I don’t know
aveojohnee sssssssshhhhhhh
Sweet Jesus this is radioactive it's so hot! WOW! Everybody's killing it. Derek's out of his mind! Susan is one of the finest vocalists I've ever heard (And a damn good guitarist.) But I'm taken by the utter joy that is O'Teil Burbridge! I love seeing gifted people performing with such joy and love.
One of my absolute favourite performances for ANY of the Crossroads festivals - Simply Amazing!!
Didn't you watch the rest of it?
The Crossroads festivals were some of the best things to come together live in person and on tv ever . The best talent on earth were at those shows
Such a great version of this song.
Truly a masterpiece.
Derek has an uncanny ability to showcase every musician on the team, and add his unmatched sound at just the right time and Susan gets it too. They are about as awesome as it's ever going to get.
It's a Murderer's Row of guitarists up there. Hidalgo, Trucks, Rosas, Haynes. Holy cow!
😊
I love how they are all smiling and enjoying themselves.
..........just like all the bands in the 1970s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's the way it is supposed to be.
Had this playing in a rotation while I was doing other things, heard the piano intro and first verse and thought Mad Dogs and Englishmen had come up. Then the second verse Susan's voice came in, I had to run to the computer and give it thumbs up, BRAVO! Great version! What a message, needed now as much as when it was written
She certainly filled in the gaps from the original live version - although those gaps/chorus lapses are part of the charm of that rendition - with fire and soul. Awesome version. A real plus seeing/hearing David and Cesar with this band!!
I'm in love with Susan Tedeschi, she with the brilliant voice and excellent guitarist, oh and Derek's not bad either! 😁
No matter what the song or venue TTB always makes me smile.
They should release the entire set of this pre-Tedeschi Trucks Band stuff. Would buy in a heartbeat.
No matter the year, Chris Stainton remains the same. You know him at a glance.
Who is he?
@@A_Final_Hit keyboards
@@GLD-hopeful Thank you! 👍🏽
@@A_Final_Hit Chris Stainton grew up with, played with in the UK, and came to the US together with his best bud Joe Cocker!
@@MrMojolinux learned those licks from the master of space and time.
All hail Chris Stainton.
This is what makes America Great!!
Damn Warren! Your voice is perfect for this song!
Derek "SlideGod" Trucks.
I hate it when people compare Derek Trucks to God. I mean, sure, he's great, he's brilliant. But he's no Derek Trucks. :)
Hahahaha Thumbs up for you, Peter!
I am going to use this, Peter. Thank you. (lol)
Peter van Kan non
I'm gonna steal that line. Classic
TTB is becoming my most favourite band in the whole wide blue world.
Yeah , seriously this song is , what I consider , one of my most favorite hidden gems and I couldn't imagine any other ensemble expressing homage with such a genuine execution. Reeeeeeeeeespect
Chris Stainton rocks. As does Hildago. Quite a lineup. If you haven' seen it, there
a good Netflix documentary on joe cocker. Stainton figures prominently in it.
Anytime- Everytime I watch Tedeschi Trucks Band, they're all having so much fun, laughing smiling what more could you ask for✌️♥️☮️🎶🌻
Man I wish Warren played with Tedschi Trucks all the time
lovely woman with a strong voice.
Good God I love this song; I also love how geeked Susan was at the start, once Stainton started in on the piano intro.
cuz she was like holy shit this is Chris playing I'm here and this is where Joe cocker was..
What a band. Watch clips of the 1970 Mad Dogs and Englishmen Tour (Joe Cocker) and you will get a sense from where this energy originates. And look at Chris Stainton 46 years later, he is unchanged.
I believe this is from Crossroads 2010.
Correct
I freaked out, I was "where was I last year?"
whole on......that aint no 2016.... :p .....id like to see one though
yes - Susan has put on a few cheeseburgers since then :-)
@@ChrisLee-cg4sz Hey dude, I've searched her recent videos and I don't know what you're referring to - she's still a beautiful chick and still a jaw dropping talent
Chris Stainton ! From the OG Mad dogs and Englishmen !!! Cool!
It does not matter at all with who they are playing. This band can play with anybody and that chemistry will just blow you out...
Incredible talents, masterful rendition - positively brilliant!
I think they learned to live together and play together....don't you?
Own her worst day Susan is still fine
Wow!! How have I not seen this till now?!? So damn good. Great old song, great band, great guests! They are having a blast on this one. Tremendous!
Awesome for Chris Stainton he was their with the original crowd oh yah!!!!!! Love it when Otiel Burbage gets happy feet!!!!!!
They do this song Great ! Celebrate Life !
this band makes you believe in LOVE AGAIN!
Sho'Nuff you right about that brother man. They be holding that Grateful Dead Torch. Let the Light shine until the Dawn comes. Always believe in Peace and Love, and when you can your fellow man.
Serenity, tranquility, peace.
Damn, sounds the Master of Space and Time is on the piano.
That guitar solo by Derek Trucks near the end is one of the best I've ever heard.
It is absolute filth 😂😂😂 so so good!
r u for real
one of my all time fav songs. Susan kills it.
It seems like Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks bring out the best in each other.
Once I was traveling across the sky
This lovely planet caught my eye
And being curious I flew close by
And now I'm caught here till I die
Until we die, until we die
We are just learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
I lost my memory of where I've been
We all forgot we could fly
We'll all change into peaceful man
And we'll return into the sky
Until we die, until we die
We are just learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Till we die
Until we die, until we die
We are just learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
It's getting better together
We've got to get together
It's getting better together
Oh, until we die, until we die
We are just learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning
Until we die, until we die
We are just learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
Learning to live together
This is and has been my favorite Sunday Jam for years. Min 4:44 makes my soul shine a little brighter every time. No better song for the days we live in. TOGETHER its the only way to live!
SHo do miss me some Kofi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not think their is any other Band that truly enjoys performing together then TTB. They are having so much fun.
Chris Stainton!
love that dude!
Legend
Stevieboy130664, He is the best, some his music with Eric is fantastic. Live long & rock on....
Playing it the way he did for Joe!
Ageless!
Awesome brings me back in time to Mad Dogs and English Men one of my favorite albums thank you Tedesci & Trucks And Warren Haynes Band Great Memories
Two best things about this performance:
The absolute joy on everyone's faces;
Worlds shortest guitar solos: "you each get two bars, don't waste 'em"
Oh, plus killer slide, smoking vocals, Chris Stainton, and the best message song ever.
So much talent and just as important so much passion.Magical performance from all involved.
Wow! Great version you guys! We really need Leon Russell on piano and Greg on organ and Duane!! This is really good!
Holy crap!! This is my first time viewing this - definitely the first of many times. This instantly became my favorite version of Space Captain! Thanks for posting.
TELL US IF THERE IS GOING TO BE A CROSSROADS 2016 AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Seriously
Given the news of EC's peripheral neuropathy and the difficulty he is having playing, I wager he isn't wanting to undertake an extremely large project like another Crossroads Festival. If you remember, EC appeared with a lot of the groups and artists to play their music. I'm afraid EC doesn't have the physical strength without pain to do that anymore.
It's too bad but... like George said, "all things must pass"
BUMMER,,,,peripeal neuropathy affects both motor and sensory outer nerves,as these outer nerves demylinate it gets worse,,,,I feel for him, its a nasty disease.
+SurfinUSA idk care about his disease. I want to know is he going to gather people together like that or nah! Before I book 10 concerts to go see. I want to know could I see everyone at crossroads or will I have to go to these separate concerts before I drop this money!
+Derek Adams - Troll. Go f*ck yourself.
Not sure who I have a bigger crush on...Susan or Derek? :)
Derek plays with his hart .No big ego .Down to earth.
@@williamwhite9946 Guitar nerd= Derek, Everyone else= Susan
It is interesting and amazing, really, how a few notes of music, in this particular case Chris Stainton's opening piano notes to "Space Captain," the Matthew Moore hit from Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen, can transport us through time to replicate the same emotion and depth of raw AWE we felt when we first heard it, if it is impactful and awesome enough. I'm 61 and the opening piano notes to this song transported me back to age 12 when the Mad Dogs & Englishmen album technically, Joe Cocker's, (but we know it was also Leon's and Friends) dramatically changed the way I looked at music and life. This was mainly due to Leon Russell and his spectacular band he gathered and the work he did arranging Cocker's tour, but Cocker gets some of the cred as a fantastic showman! I still am so grateful to hear Tadeschi Trucks Band so I get all the lyrics for the first time with their version! (Must've been the British accent... ) What changes did one album begin in a 12 year old's life? Musically, I tossed all the bobby sherman posters and archived his records as I wallpapered my room in Leon Russell and friends. Life-wise, I realize the topics of such bubblegum music so popular with my peers were strictly distracting me from growth as a human being and I made a commitment to be more compassionate and look out for my fellow man and woman because "they might be the Prince of Peace returning." (See Leon's blue album "Prince of Peace." Great to see Chris is still trucking and wish I could've seen his face. Love that band! Thank you!
God, this is so good...great music and message for these days.
WAIT! I think I saw some emotion on Dereks's Face. Did you see that eyebrows at 2:57?
I only just discovered this band and I'm hooked already 🤯🤯🤯 I can't believe all of the musical background here. so many interconnected musicians 😲
to the 118 folks that gave this a thumbs down you are clearly lost souls seek medication
Amen.... this will make you jump and shout! Brilliant performance.
David Hildago the G of East LA rock and roll..RIP Kofi
Susan looking so gorgeous
A beautiful, one of the best, "hippie song", with a genuine 'root love message for Humanity'. Makes me remember and celebrate the memory of the greats Joe Cocker and Leon Russel (R.I.P. both), and, why not, all the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen". A memorable rock show/record/movie!
Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks are doing a documentary about those very subjects... Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Mad Dog & the Englishmen. They just released a preview on their RUclips channel - Tedeschi Trucks Band - about a week ago. It looks very cool. Not surprisingly, they are both VERY big fans of the era. ✌
@@BooBooKittyFuzzyBritches Man (two years later) What a coincidence! Love from Brasil.💙
GREAT Take on a Classic..
Just gotta Luv everybody on this stage!
Definitivamente hermoso. Brillante Susan
simply the best! that's how it's done children!!!
Susan...i love it when you sing to me,and you, you can sing me anything :)
Absolutely LOVE this rendition! Can't get enough of it.
I'd give anything to pull off vocals like Susan. She's not perfect, but so perfectly unique...and what a guitar slinger, right? I thot she really out-did Bonnie Raitt when I saw them play/sing together. A hard act to top.
only the best, Eric Idle on keys
Eric Idle? like Monte Python Eric Idle? That's Chris Stanton, though I guess there is some resemblance
Is that Stainton in there😮
Yes
What can you expect from a group of talented musicians such as this?
Pure pleasure.
Susan, so beautiful and beaming here.
Damn, they all look like they're having a hell of a good time.
Haha Oteil at 4:42
Connor Shapiro OZONE!
Love how much they're all digging it
Susan still killing it...!!
Wow. Beyonce wishes she could be in a band like that.
Too late she has sold her soul....
Who ?
She couldn't stand the competition.
Beyoncé is an incredible live performer. Her 2019 live album, ‘Homecoming’, pairs her up with a large piece marching band. There’s a lot going on and respect should be given where deserved and she deserves it. This band though... man... anyone should wish to be in a band like this.
@@cameronstewart8561 What, are you kidding me? She's never ever once been in a band like that. Full tilt, full live rock.
No one is disrespecting her. No one is disrespecting her.
She's literally never played in that environment.
It's no insult. It's just an objective reality.
And, yeah, that band.....
Too good and you know it
crossroads 2016?? is it gnna be a sign?! :o
Watching this just made me bawl my eyes out. Seeing how happy they are and just throwing down! What an emotional release during these uncertain times.
Likewise - maybe I'm just an old fool, but bloody hell that's awesome!
This super song will never die, Cool and lovely music🎶🎵 Hi Jo H, how're you doing?
Great rendition, great musicians, Susan and Warren sound well together Love this 💖💖💖
WOW! Electrifying! ~~ Man-O-Manichevitz !! Great lineup. Chris Stanton? Yer killin' me !!!
This is Rey distracting camera work. Has it been goofed up to avoid some copyright thing?
É impressão ou o tecladista é o mesmo do Mad dogs & Englishmen? Sem ser o Leon Russell, o outro cabeludo que tocava teclado? Bem parecido com ele.
It's absolutely marvellous ! Tedeschi Trucks Band is a Miracle ! A gift to the World. It's hard to believe that such a band could exist today. Such an incredible feeling, such a passion in their music. They are living legends.
The new janis joplin, but much better--Derek, you are one lucky frook-- love you both-seen you over 10 times--please keep touringf!
