    My sister and I, and some of our friends, endlessly quote this movie to each other. These quotes mainly consist of "hewuuum-whhhuuurm" (the pulsating egg noise), "Help! Help! There's an egg!" "I don't know what Mars IS! And I was never THERE!" And my friend Laura, who's a doctor of film studies, often advises, "Whatever it was, IT CAME OUT OF THAT BOX OF COFFEE!!!" Wise words.

      Same here. Some wonderful memories watching this with my older brother, and noticing that NONE of the gore was cut out.. on a local channel (I loved how when the first guy blows up on the cargo ship, it would flip back-and-forth to Elvira waving her hands in front of her eyes as the guy was blowing up). It didn't hurt to have my mom pop up around the corner asking "what are you watching?" right before the finale and giving her the ole "oh nothin.. just another horror movie", and being completely horrified if she came in and actually SAW what was on the tv screen.

    The Cyclops is...fairly impressive, I guess; sure, unlike the Xenomorph Queen (or even the alien cucumber creature in It Conquered the World) it's firmly stuck in one place, but the crew working behind it is giving it all the life they can and its method of devouring Kramer head-first is pretty squicky. But seriously, who knew that squib torsos could become boring? (Note to whoever's remaking The Fury...don't overdo the corpseplosions.)

    Brandon....interesting note....one of the reasons that Italian directors would "Americanize" their names was simply for distribution purposes. In a lot of the tradeshows win for an investors, and most the time American investors or distributors, would come and try to pick up movies to see if they could pass off as the real deal, they would gravitate towards Italian exploitation. They were usually just presented with a poster with very few names attached to it. That way, not even the investor would really see how many foreign people worked on the production. This proved handy when going straight to video towards the mid-80s after their run on grind house circuits.

    • @jiujitsu77
      @jiujitsu77 7 лет назад +4

      Also, in some instances, it was done as a sort of "Alan Smithee" deal. Basically if a director wanted to distance himself from the project but had contractual obligations, they would do this as well. Bruno Mattiei comes to mind. Forgive the typos

    strangly, this movie has some parallels with a Space 1999 episode called, Dragons Domain, specifically an astronaut, played by an Italian actor who finds a monster in space, no one believes him, and the monster cab telepathicly coerce it's victims into letting it eat them. Then it spits their burned husks back out.

    Always thought this was one of THE Goblin's better soundtracks. Kind of a meh film though.
    And neat, you're going to do Lily C.A.T. A old Saturday Anime favorite of mine.

    The opening credit had Ian McCulloch and I was expecting the soundtrack to be from Echo & the Bunnymen.

    Hmm.....the beginning scene in the ship reminded me of The Relic. Investigating a ship that's full of dead bodies, a jump scare.....yep, sounds like The Relic. Which happens to be another Alien clone. Sort of.

    Oh boy, looking forward to Lily Cat. That anime brought up a valid and interesting point about hypersleep and nicely seeded points related to it through the movie leading up to it. Also, there's an alien, I guess.

    Lazily pulled from the film's wiki page~ "In a 2010 interview with Fangoria, Cozzi revealed that the film was made as a ripoff of Alien, going so far as to say, "Without the existence of Alien, we could not have made this movie at all"
    Well then, I guess I owe Ridley Scott and Ronald Shusett a punch to the face. Mr. O'Bannon unfortunately left us in 2009.

      Xtro 3. It looks nothing like predator, nor does it have a futuristic technology, but it's set in a jungle and the alien stalks it's victims by turning invisible. And suprise, suprise, it's a terrible piece of shit.

    14:02 there's an episode of Space 1999 with a monster like this. Tentacles, hypnotism, and it eats victims, then excretes them, in about 5 seconds.

      Season 1, episode 8, "Dragon's Domain". The monster is hokey-looking but the screams it made really sold it. I was a youngster when it premiered. Still remember it to this day.

    Hey Brandon, I know you propably have at least the next 5-10 reviews planned already, but how about after this Alien-Month (which so far has been one of your best theme months) a review of an extremely cheesy Taiwanese Martial Arts flick, Return Of The Kung Fu Dragon.
