I just want to again point out that my opinions are completely my own, based on my own personal experiences. I would never want to take away from your own School/Homeschool experience.
I’m also aware that my opinions could grow and change in the future. Already since filming this, my boys have had some great achievements at school that I am so proud of.
This is just a good way for me to document our own journey so far💛💛💛

I have 6 kids, I homeschooled from thr beginning and for a number of reasons I sent them to school when my oldest was halfway through yr 7. After 2.5 years, we are done. I am homeschooling my kids from next year. My oldest began having mental health issues that she'd never had before school, she was stressed and confused. I needed to get her out. I applied for homeschooling a month ago and since being home, she is becoming herself again, not masking who she was. I missed what we had, the closeness we felt. I'm really looking forward to our second chance at homeschooling.
I wish you guys all the best for the future.

Thank you for sharing your experience💛
It sounds like you have definitely made the right decision for your family. That’s wonderful that your daughter is becoming herself again.
Homeschooling in the future is definitely still a possibility for us. We will prayerfully take it one year at a time.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing. I really appreciate it xxx

Ohhh I just want to give you a hug. This is such a healthy and honest video. I literally LOL'd about the "weird" kids. haha. I was weird too (in public school). But yeah the "math gap" is real. Its ok to recognize your limitations, and the limitations of your community in helping fill in gaps. You're precious. I'm enjoying this series and looking forward to seeing where you ended up. :)

All the best with your future xoxo. I appreciate your video and insight😍. Our circumstance was slightly the reverse to yours my children started off in primary school. I can't share the specifics of the triggering/sensitive topics. But slowly by slowly I felt school was not where I wanted them be. Then in lockdown sitting with my children doing the home learning work sent home one of my A graded children couldn't spell or write. Another child couldn't write or read or comprehend the work at all. My other child couldn't write or comprehend. I felt lied to year after year with their glimmering report card and parent teacher interviews. I asked one of my sons why doesn't he know the work he said I always sit in groups or the back and avoid the work and someone in the group just does the work or I just copy two of my children genuinely cried every lockdown day they couldn't understand the work and many mothers shared the same sentiment (it was good to know I wasn't losing my mind). When they went back they had a catchup program funded by the government, they would not include my two very 'behind' children in it even though one of them were more than a year 'behind' BUT LOW AND BEHOLD THEY INCLUDED ONE OF MY SONS WHO WERE ADVANCED. More and more things were evident this school was running a business advanced kids done the catch up program along with the children who had funding that meant better scores and double claims for funding. Could it have been naplan was coming? when they went back I got 5 funded sessions from the Dr the school told me they would organise it so I didn't have to run around after school. He attended 2 sessions then time and time again they would cancel then I decided to use his last 3 sessions else where well I couldn't as the school claimed them already! I had it and took them out. With a large family I can say with homeschool its really hard getting as much formal work done as I'd hoped for them to be completing, especially with my youngest breastfeeding around the clock. And I completely understand when you said higher grade math and science is overwhelming I too worry that I am letting them down. my motivation at the moment is our families bad experiences. We also have a much better relationship since taking them out. I really felt with each year they were in school we were become strangers. When I get all down my husband says the school was fine with them being in year 2 and not being able to read. But in all honesty my 'behind kids are doing really well and have grown in their academics rapidly. I dont know what I am going to do come year 9 and beyond it does feel so overwhelming
    edited to add
in terms of socialisation my oldest had so many issues at school YET found the first year of homeshcool so hard mentioning he felt lonely even though he went to many activities after 3pm with other children but they all went to school and its a common theme the school kids laugh and jab at homeschool to my older two older kids. my second doesn't care and laughs back in their face but my eldest takes it to heart. its been really hard finding other boys that homeschool his age their either dont mash or their isn't any his age at the excursions and meet ups. I am in the process of getting a boys homeschool group together and I hope it works out. but my other children say they never want to be at school but I know everything can change by a yr

Thank you so much for sharing your story and journey with me.
I know these are such big decisions. I applaud you for your bravery and love for your children, doing the best thing possible for them in this season.
It sounds like they will be thriving in the home environment. I will pray that you will able to find some boys their age who do Home School as well. I know that they are out there! 🤗
I honestly don’t think I could have sent my children to school if it was any other school than the one they are going to.
The first term was still very difficult for me, even though I knew they were doing well.
I agree that there are many schools out there that are not doing a good job. I know it is very easy for kids to fall behind at school as well.
It truly sounds like you have made a wonderful decision and I wish you the absolute best for your future!
Exactly as you said, it can change year by year, and we are very open to homeschooling again in the future if that is where God leads us xxx🤗🤗🤗

Jo, this video was very good! I'm sorry I've not got back you yet, I've been meaning to respond back. I think this video was very balanced & good points! I agree with ALL of what you've said! There are different pros and cons to both. I'm realizing there is no perfect system, but we do our best. Thanks for sharing your heart.
    My con: school run. 😂❤

Thank you so much Ashley! There are definitely pros and cons to both. But you’re right we just have to do the very best we can with whatever situation we have. 100% agree with you, at the school drop off and pick up is the hardest part of it all😂😂

Yes the idea of homework. My kids haven't got too much but maybe due to being in younger grades! I actually want them to bring work home so I can see what they are doing lol!! 😅

💯 my kids are at school now, but I will always be a Home School mama at heart. We may even change back to Home School eventually, who knows😀Each child learns differently, and I love kids learning at their own pace without the pressures of the outside world.

The bad flexibility was also an issue for me. So easy to get off track and than before you know it, it is dinner. 🙈

Yes, me too! Too many times I would have great intentions, but not start anything until late in the afternoon. That was so frustrating to me🤪

I 100% agree about homework! 6 hours of school work is enough; to ask children to continue extra work at home has always seemed like too much to me, and unfair. Especially since many kids have after school commitments, but also just to allow them to come home and turn off for the day. It’s brain overload 🤯

    • @strongmindsoftheart
      @strongmindsoftheart  Год назад

Yes, 💯, I also get mad at it because I feel like it interferes with our family time that we should have after the school day. and like you said when the kids have sport etc we don’t even get home till dinner time so the evening ends up, rushed and pressured, instead of relaxed and restful😵‍💫😄

As a family we also agree that homework should not be necessary. It’s ridiculous

Absolutely! I want my kids to give their 100% while they are at school, but then I would love them to just be able to come home and rest. Also not to have family time interfered with with more schoolwork🤪

You wasn’t to know that your kids would go to school and I don’t like the square thing schools do!!! After homeschooling for 6 years I can’t see how they can’t teach enough in 6 hours!!! Homeschool doesn’t even take 6 hours!!! I talk with my hands!!! Homeschooling is more one to one!!! I worry about wasting time before my kids where born!!! I sent my kids to school tho!!! I feel homeschooling means more annoying days but it’s worth it!!! I learnt as a teenager that anything that’s worth it it’s difficult!!! I see that I have 2 kids that are both gifted and dyslexic and I see that they are advanced and below level in different subjects!!! There are certain subjects I don’t push and other subjects I push and that kid dependent!!! On our trip I will have work and we will have a community that I trust!!! My older daughter is excited to learn better Japanese and I’m ok with that as I just the person!!! I was in that community as a teenager when I was homeschooling and I learnt a lot so I know the people well!!! I think CM and unschooling can go together!!! We love unschooling as well as classical as they both have their place!!!! We still love CM and it fits in with the classical approach!!! The socialisation thing I am making sure with our new lifestyle as it’s a sport environment!!! The ones with kids homeschool and the kids involved homeschool!!! I looked into options for science!!!

Thank you so much, yes, you are right, if I had of known we were going to send them, I would’ve had them on a more school-based curriculum early on.
It sounds like your kids are very blessed to have a mother who understands them and is giving them the best options and opportunities. When you travel, I think they are going to be learning so much and enjoying the new communities around them!!🤗💛
