We are deciding on homeschooling because we are concerned about the safety of our child, and we are concerned about the overall quality of education our child will get. Homeschooling seems to answer those questions.
One thing I didn't realize until my 6th year of homeschooling is that THE LIBRARY HAS CURRICULUM BOOKS. Our local library has the whole Life of Fred series and The Story of Us series (both print and audiobooks)
Same but I’m finally getting in a rhythm. It took me a couple of years of practicing during the Summer and sometimes on weekends. We just officially started
2nd year homeschooling my 6 grader. Math and writing was a challenge for her in school so I can’t imagine how far behind she would be in a class of 20 11 year olds. I struggle when we are behind in math curriculum because it takes her time to master a new concept.
In case anyone is worried about being weird...it's not the school...it's an individual person kind of thing. I went to public school and my husband went to private school and guess what? We are both big weirdos.
Great video! True, there are so many homeschooling resources! We now have our first year of homeschooling completed (although we will be doing school year-round/light school in the summer). Our biggest hurdle that surprised me a bit was how my child and I needed to unschool. She was in public education up to 3rd grade (in a great school) and I was a 16-year public school teacher. Once we settled into our new free lifestyle, it has been amazing, to say the least! If anyone is thinking they CAN'T teach their kids, it's okay...I went through many days/nights wondering if I was doing a "good enough" job. My child is happy, is an active member of her community, and loves learning.
Do you mean that there are so many resources for elementary aged kids? It feels like a different ball game getting into new homeschooling a high schooler.
Thank you for clarifying, and for taking the time to respond! I'm new to this and trying to home school an 11th grader. I feel so lost and like I'm surely going to mess everything up.
I'm a grandmother about to embark on homeschooling for the new fall year. The regional rep for homeschooling, your local library and the homeschool groups are a good source of information and help.
I watched this just for fun, even though I'm entering my 4th year of homeschooling! I still often feel overwhelmed and like I have no idea what to do. These tips are GREAT.
Glad to see some homeschool content, even if it's super basic. I've been doing it for awhile now. I'd like to see more relatable homeschool content from you!
THANK YOU FOR THIS. I am the first in my group of friends to have kids. I've been homeschooling only for a year and a half with my 6 yr old. All of my friend's kids are around 2 - 4 yrs old and they are getting curious about homeschooling. Asking me questions and what not.. I always recommend your videos to them but this is the perfect video to send them to! :)
I love being a member of hslda! They are so helpful. Absolutely worth the membership fee. I've personally spoken to lawyers there and it was essential. Wonderful!
Perfectly timed! My wife & I know that I will be homeschooling our daughter. I’m not rushing her into a curriculum… she’s only 19 months old. I’m in the researching phase. Checking out curriculums, building recourses, learning about how to teach in a way that our kids will learn, etc.. I don’t believe in rushing children to learn for a check in the box. However, our daughter is already very interested in Letters & learning the names of everything already. She asks to do her alphabet book multiple times a day & randomly practices her letters. There are just some things that she picks up on, that we have No idea how she already understands. I think she may be an early learner. Example: She was going through her alphabet book with her mom yesterday. They got to “K is for Kite”. She said “No! K Kitty” 😮 She says K Kitty every time now.
I'd like to recommend looking into Montessori. My oldest was like this with math and I struggled to find an accessible way to help him when he was only 2 years old. Montessori actually starts work at 3 years old and it's very simple work that focuses on your child's sensitive periods. If you're interested I recommend Child of the Redwoods and The Kavanaugh Report as they are wonderful resources on the Montessori Method.
The Dollar Tree has great work books for pre k through second grade. I have gotten so many awesome books from the thrift store that were brand new. Work books, science books, etc.
I LOVE HSLDA! It is a GAME CHANGER! I live in a high regulation state (PA) and knowing that really bothered me and made me so anxious for homeschooling. HSLDA's membership provided me with everything I needed legally to send to our school district and it made it so much easier to homeschool in a high regulation state. One of the best things about their membership is knowing we have a legal team on our side if (God forbid) ever needed. The money we pay them each month not only helps ourselves but other families if they ever need the back up towards a group of people who want to hurt their homeschool.
I bought Angie’s homeschooling course last night! Spending the next 6 months researching and learning about it. Hoping to then feel confident enough to switch my kiddos (4 yo boy, 2yo girl) to HS. Thanks to Angie and her community!
Hi, just embarked on this journey with my little guy (10). Would Abeka Academy be considered curriculum or umbrella school? Also, if you don't mind, is it truly better to go with an umbrella vs register with the district/county? I'm in FL as well, registered with our county but was recently told that umbrella school is the route for more freedom. Testing these waters, I know we are not going back to public but just want to get as many viewpoints as possible.
I bought Angie's homeschooling course and all I can say is thank you girl for this amazing information. I am homeschooling my daughter for 3 years now and your detailed information and links helped me so much. You are amazing!! Thank you
You helped me make the jump into homeschool thos last year and im seeing the benefits of unschooling and may be headed in that direction in the upcoming year!
Don’t stress! A lot of people are against using a boxed curriculum (where everything for one year is sold as a set for the year and comes with guides to tell you what to do), but I think they’re great for first time homeschoolers. It cuts down on overwhelm and that feeling of ignorance. Another benefit is figuring out what works and doesn’t while still being sure all the bases are covered. There are all kinds of companies and resources (some free!) to choose from with their own slant/style of teaching, so you can select based on what seems to be of your children’s best way of learning.
Hey can you give me more information on how to get homework for a homeschooler I just went homeschool and am trying to find out how I can do work to prove to the school that am doing work too
I'd just like to add if you are dipping your toes in during the summer after they had an entire public school year let them have a little break before diving in. Also if your child sees other kids doing the summer thing as they are doing school you may get pushback that isn't necessarily a fair representation of how homeschooling always is.
Thank u for all your videos about HS even though I’m not even a mum yet! We know we’ll like to HS our children, which also means we’ll have to move countries because in Germany, my fiance is German and we live here now, is completely illegal to homeschool 🤦🏽♀️ HS is quite a grey legal area in general in Europe, with some countries such as Germany where’s just illegal. Crazy, hey?
Thank you for the excellent suggestions! This was the video I needed to see after watching dozens of videos on homeschooling. currently my 5 & 3 yo are in K and daycare. I am finishing up a PMHNP program as an FNP and will start homeschooling in sept 2024 but am in the research and planning phase. i already purchased several books and your homeschool unit planner but will look into your course, book/game recommendations. we found a local farm to forest school for all day science-nature education and community and they go to Kumon tutoring for Reading and Math which have helped them since their classrooms are so overcrowded and will continue to do so. Thank you again. I wish all of you and your families a blessed homeschooling experience with your children.
You're such an uplifting person! Thank u so much for the encouragement. My time as a hhomeschooler is just starting and I try to look at this as a learning and experiencing journey for my children and ,if not more than equally, for me.
🎉 I love this video !!! I started last year homeschooling my 10 year old and now being pregnant with my 3rd I plan to get my 1 year old prepped to start learning at play. Mothers are the best teachers !!!!
Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I didnt try as hard as i should of when i was in school. I graduated and everything but kinda took shortcuts. This gives me the chance to learn woth my kids. Everything is adding up, thats how you know its from god. You know what i mean
The shock i got on the difference of HS requirements moving ONE state away from ny to nj was crazy. Ive been homeschooling for almost one official year and i always remember suggestions youve given on homeschooling, theyre very helpful thank you ❤
Hi. I am in NJ also. Seriously considering switching to HS when my son finishes 1st grade this summer. Any tips about how to get started in NJ? I am out in Warren County
I love you! lol 😢I cried through this whole video and it was so helpful to me!!! Now I just need to look up my state requirements and figure out if I have to keep any of their homework or grade them or show anyone that stuffs!!!! ❤❤❤
Ive wanted to homeschool my kids for a while butbhave problems with follow through and getting overwhelmed. Ill be on mat leave for a year from September so thought it would be a great time to homeschool my kindergartener and seeing how it goes 🤞🏽 pray for me
Life packs worked great and we’re easy for me. Horizons is great too. If your kids have trouble doing work Summer Bridges book at Target and Walmart is good. Brain games books are great for this also. Dollar tree has great books now too.
Thank you so much for sharing and all the encouragement. I’m 3 years into our homeschooling and I’m still learning and getting the hang of things. Especially when preparing curriculum I don’t know if I’ll ever get it “right” but my kids are happy and learning.
Just what I needed! Thanks for sharing …I’m living in Jamaica and I’m exploring what it’ll take for me to do this. It’s a totally different country, but the basic principles still apply.
I need a platform that allows me to create when needed our own classwork, projects, quizzes, and tests. I also need to be able to print out detailed end-of-year reports. Does such a platform exist?
Oh my goodness it's crazy how lenient it is here in Alabama. Every year all we have to do is sign a form letting the board of education know they will be homeschooling said kids. That's literally all we have to do legally, we don't have to prove anything or keep attendance.
I really want to home school. My daughter is in prek and I worked for the center and she gets a lot of attention and play time while learning. But im not thrilled about the thought of her going to public school next September for kindergartner. Im afraid I won’t submit something in time or won’t understand the requirements. My fear is holding me back. But I just don’t want her in public school.
If we don’t get curriculum books how do you keep track with keepsakes do we just write on a planner how our child is progressing from learning in a different way
Teach according to their interests. Well my 6 yr. Old granddaughter is only interested in Beauty, hair, makeup, nails & boys. That's why I'm thinking of homeschooling her. Her brother is Thriving in traditional school. I want to bring out Her potential. How would you suggest I approach that?
I need to have my son homeschooled. He been bullied for 2 years I changed school. He had a wonderful start an the bullies started again . My child is 11trs old an he cries before he goes to school. My heart is broken. I'm not smart enough to teach him . I need all tge answers I can get . 😩 I feel so lost . I live Toronto Canada 🇨🇦. I'm just starting to do my research.
I’m needing a little guidance or advice. My youngest started private school in a K-3 program. He failed 7th and he could’ve passed but he gave up at the end. Because of financial hardship this year he started 7th in a public school. He’s struggling and he’s not passing math and English. He’s talked about home school for months and now I’m really considering it. How would that work in the middle school year or does it really matter. I don’t know anyone personally that does a homeschool curriculum to really talk with. I am a homemaker or shall I say homeworker 24-7😊 I’m in the state of Louisiana. I do know the private school he attended was doing the abeka curriculum. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Do you have and recommendations for kids with adhd cuz he is being a menace and not meaning to but omg 😅gental parenting him wile trying not to make faces at him is hard
We read aloud to our children through to their high school graduation. There are numerous benefits to reading to your children even after they have learned to read for themselves. For quality titles, check out books from Lamplighter Publishing, Progeny Press Study Guide titles, and Ambleside Online.
My second guessing about home schooling is , is it to late? My daughter is 13 n she wants too but I’m nervous due to she only needs 8th grade then high school
I pulled my 12 year old in January and my neighbor pulled her 10th grader a few months ago. They are both loving homeschool and doing so much better. I know it is scary. Take the suggestion of maybe trying it a bit during the summer. It's definitely a learning process. It was scary at first bc you feel like you don't know what to do, go with, etc. We tried several different programs, things etc. Things that other people raved about my kid didn't do well with and vice versa. We watched a ton of videos of curriculum reviews and I researched a bunch of different ones as well.
It's not as daunting as we make it initially. I started with Lifepack, done some Abeka, now some Apologia, there's numerous curriculums. Numerous resources and different ways of learning math. Anything you decide will be more than they're learning in public school, my daughter has done both. She prefers homeschooling.
Yeah... this isn't solving the problem. I've been homeschooling my youngest for six years because of panic attacks she had after dealing with overcrowded classrooms up until 5th grade. ADHD/Autism runs in the family and school was a nightmare for someone who struggles with executive dysfunction. The school was very helpful... they were willing to do almost anything short of actually helping. Still, they agreed that the panic attacks were a sign that she needed a change of scenery. Well, our district has a homeschool site where they hand you the year's curriculum and give you a teacher to consult with once a month. Seemed like the best way to make sure she got a similar education to her peers while keeping her out of the chaos, and we have the discretion of not having to do every single assignment. The quality of our teachers has been mixed over the years but we're nearly to the end of junior year. Just one issue... we're moving to another state. So now my problem is that I have a still anxious teenager (lockdown did not help) with one year left of school, I have been unable to get her to anyone who can give her an official diagnosis or at least some freaking Ritalin (or whatever they prescribe now... is it ethical for mental health professionals to fail to even return your call?) and we have to go to Texas where plenty of people homeschool but I feel like it may not be for the same reason as we do... I mean, I'm fine with things like critical race theory but I'm not so sure they're cool with that in Texas. I'm Christian but I don't do this in order to omit scientific facts like some people think we do. I'm just wondering whether the homeschool groups will be of any help down south. I grew up in Louisiana and... yeah, it's... different... How do you deal with graduation? What if she hasn't learned what she needs? What does she even need? This has all been convenient but what happens when she enters college? We did this because we were desperate, man... maybe she'd be no better off if she'd been able to stay in school, but she'd have an idea how to function in a classroom. It's all very well to do workbooks and go to aquariums but I dunno what future any kid has in this insane society.
Your anxiety is palatable perhaps you need Ritalin but seriously. At this point your main question should be what does your child want to do for a living to support herself and pay her rent and focus on what kind of education she’s going to need to do those things. Some children don’t need much more education than high school unless they want to be a lawyer, doctor or an engineer. If she wants to be an artist or do computer work or a trade, things like these could be as easy as getting her a GED and helping her find internships or build a portfolio. I do wish you all the luck in the world we all just want the best for our kiddos and there are so many roads to a great life waiting for all of us yes even in this crazy world.

Her kids aren't grown up yet for outcomes. 🙄 To tell you my story, my daughter went back to public school after homeschooling and had straight A's. She wanted to return to homeschooling because she was bored and aggravated with loud, obnoxious kids. There ya go!😂
@@boogsassy1 I reread the thread. I apologize. I mistook your comment as the response of the person my original comment was directed towards. That’s why I wrote that I didn’t understand the point of you sharing your story or that you didn’t know the ages of Angie’s kids. I completely misunderstood your position. My mistake. Of course, now that I see my error, I completely see what you were saying. Again, I apologize. I am deleting the response I made to you thinking it was the troll to whom I was addressing. We are deciding on homeschooling because we are concerned about the safety of our child, and we are concerned about the overall quality of education our child will get. Homeschooling seems to answer those questions.
All about reading and math with confidence are great

Yes! The local library is the BEST resource. Hands down. So much help there that the average citizen never knows about.
Thank you, was looking them up but couldn't find the right one. Really helpful thanks
My local library doesn’t have any 😢 sucks
I just want to say thank you. Jumping into homeschooling is making me feel like I'm bailing a sinking ship.

“Am kinda weird but Normal too” 😂😂❤❤

Hello. How long will your open enrollment be open? Will it still be available next week?
reading to my 7th grade kids still recommended?
I have the same question.
Go for it. Especially because she wants to.
It’s never too late! I know people who didn’t start until the end of high school.

Number 1 you should have time and stay at home.
I bet CA is very strict on this.😢
So far it's been chill. They don't need you to report any grades and it was easy to remove my son from public school and filing the affidavit.
Hi .. I have a question thinking of enrolling my son in homeschool.. how do I fill my affidavit. ?

Milo Ventimiglia talk fight myself talk fight story ? Milo Ventimiglia 's face twin look worry happened myself had daughter her was1 . I don't tell. Milo Ventimiglia in love with another wife woman !
Tiring to listen to someone talking for that long... she has never shared the outcome
Good grief. Stop trolling this woman. Do you really think your comments are going to change her or anybody else’s mind? I doubt anyone has ever altered their life based on sarcastic comment from Internet strangers. And why is it those who are clearly ignorant on a topic are the first to speak up on it?
Her kids aren't grown up yet for outcomes. 🙄 To tell you my story, my daughter went back to public school after homeschooling and had straight A's. She wanted to return to homeschooling because she was bored and aggravated with loud, obnoxious kids. There ya go!😂
@DE For one, I wasn't talking to you. For two, it was to tell the first commenter my outcome with homeschooling. Enough said.
And good job with your daughter!
