- Mama Patti tears it up, performing with The Who. I know this is already up on RUclips, but wanted to upload a better quality version.
I own NO rights, Just posting for Entertainment!!!
LABELLE - the first black group to get on the cover of rolling stones magazine. Mama 'Belle does it all: r&b, soul, funk and rock. QUEEN.
YES!!!❤
Tina Turner was 1st...
@@annacopeland6339BLACK GROUP, BLACK GROUP. Tina was a solo artist. Reading is fundamental.
@ProphetsOfRockTV, it was Tina Turner
@@donpardo2510 BLACK GROUP! BLACK GROUP! Reading is fundamental.
She's a beast on the stage.
Roger standing there in awe!
Real singer can sing any genre! She definitely an original
I said that as well
No need to compare Tina and Patti. Both did the d@mn thing with this amazing song! Both are legends! The Who would not have asked Patti to perform if they felt she couldn’t bring the heat!!!
Well said!
Ms. Patti is giving me life with this song. She is truly a original.
Miss Patti brings down the house. This is one of my favorite recordings, period.
Same here.
I can't help but burst into tears of joyful emotion every single time I replay this once-in-a-lifetime performance. Patti shoots out such an unbelievable energy to be second only to a supernova.
Same...just did
Absolutely agree
I believe they really wanted Tina Turner to reprise her role, but for whatever reason she wasn't available. Patti was phenomenal! Can't imagine anyone else nailing this song the way she did! I have this concert on an old VHS tape and have worn it out. The whole concert was fantastic.
Ditto, VHS ols school!!😎✌ Patti's a badass!!
Labelle murdered the fuck out of this song! Wow! I had no expectations, and even if I had they’d have been blown away. She is “acting” too, as though she were in the movie! ❤️🔥
Wow, what a pinch hitter,eh?
@@alexdasliebe5391 no one can sing like Tina Turner
@@Dino-su2wh And no one can sing like Patti, either.
Well Damn .... and that ladies and gentlemen is why she is a LIVING LEGEND!
😄😄😄😄🐽
Amen!
Patti and the WHO! what a combo that was.
This performance is legendarily epic!
She sung that shit outta that number!
+czahnie i want that dress and im not a drag queen
Oh yes she did. Right up there with Tina Turner, Merry Clayton and Bette Midler who sung this song in the 1972 Seattle production of Tommy.
She tore it a new one honey 😝
C’est plus le producteur quia j’en comprit.m’ait u a raison ,elle mérite mieux.Viviane.🤷🤷🤷🤷📝📝📝📝
Best vocalist of all time and it's not up for debate.❤
Add me to the "had this on VHS" list. This totally needs to be reissued. Patti was f****** incredible but so was this show as a whole. Truly remarkable.
Laserdisc was the best analog version I feel
I was there!! It was at the Universal Amphitheater which became the Gipson Amphitheater. Neither now exist. Out of all the big star performances she was the the only standing ovation performance of the evening.
Lucky you! I've been watching this concert from a recording on a VHS done by myself in 1989. I couldn't dream much more of life than attending such a concert, or a Zappa's.
Me and my best friend were also there. Never forget it. My best friend just passed away this last Saturday and I was watching this reliving that night. We were huge Who fans and I scored two tickets for this. We even decided to lay off the coke (of which we were doing a lot of back then) so we could have only a few beers and remember the evening.
You're right Pattie LaBelle tore the fucking roof off the joint just with her voice. Only standing ovation as you said. Great magical memorable evening.
@@markvaught672 Rest In 😴 Power 🔋! To your best friend. I lost mine 11 years ago. 💔 I'm sorry 😞 for your loss. 🙏
@@markvaught672 as I read this I literally visioned being with you and your friend at the concert, and felt the passing of such a dear friend. I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending so much love and support from Pensacola, Florida. ❤️
Really
I Love Her Version Of This Song, As Well As Tina Turner's, Her Costume Was Very Regal With A Dark Vibe & The Band & Guitar Player Were Awesome.
This woman is the bomb
That note she hits at the end of the 1st gypsy is absolutely legit. What a practiced performer. Townsend was in his acoustic phase at this point due to tinitus. His tone is killer. And Entwistle's fills! A bass master. Yow! Love this band.
Saw them live in '89, Entwistle sounded like a jet engine.
What a performance. This entire show is unreal.
We have Tina the Queen of Rock n’ Roll and then we have Ms. Patti the Queen of Rock n’ Soul! Both grand dames in their own right and both unique in sound and style. We are truly blessed to have them both.
Queen of rock n soul? come on
@@Dino-su2wh it’s one of her honorary nicknames. So I’m told. You gotta admit though, she’s rockin’ out and serving up some serious soul here. Bear in mind, this is my opinion not a definitive statement.
@@Dino-su2wh Damn right!!
Actually she's a muthafunkin Godess!🎉❤🎉❤
I remember this from 30 years ago. Didn't know who Patti LaBelle was ... I had never heard such a powerful voice. Truly extraordinary.
You know now
@@pattifanalwayz7388 😁
I first saw this 'accidentally' as a 13 year old girl just getting into The Who and she totally blew my mind! Forget all these plastic soul divas ~ she's the real thing!
And she was following Tina Flippin' TURNER, who created the screen role of the Acid Queen in '75. The highest of bars! Patti is beyond😍
Smokin'👌... and watch her facial expression afterwards, stylish & priceless👍
Im another one that had this on VHS. And I vividly remember the performances from Phil Collins and Billy Idol..GOD, BIlly crushed his performance!...but the showstopper was Ms LaBelle, who as she always does, got inside the song and LITERALLY became the Acid Queen, right before your eyes. She's a legend..
And she is singing with a wired mic
I remember watching this on Pay Per View and was left stunned at what she was able to do with this song. There are no words. iconic doesn’t even come close.
....she always channels this African futuristic voodoo regal queen aura to everything she does....just a complete fully realized dimension of presence....love her....she just opens doors to all the possibilities....
if "dropping the mike" was a thing back then. she would have. the look on her face as she exited the stage. " how was that bitches?"
Lmao I said the same thing.😂😂😂
2:11 "Pay me beFOOOORE..."
DAAAMN, THAT'S AN EARGASM! 🔥🔥🔥
Patti basically invents gospel rock opera R&B right before our eyes. She is a force of nature.
My favorite version
what? Listen to Tina the best
@@Dino-su2whTina's performances of this songs are complete trash compared to this... sorry
Patti LaBelle absolutely kills-in the good way-this song!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE!!!
That strut offstage.😭😭
@@skepchica ....i love it....the strut of LIFE...she knew she MURDERED them....
It was kind of a "mini reunion" because Elton John, who was also at the "Tommy" concert - started off backing Patti LaBelle in the mid 60s. Miss Patti doing it her way.
Not only that..."Labelle" was signed first to Track Records, The Who's label and they toured with the Who in 1971. The Who family loved Patti and she loved them.
LaBelle did a killer cover of Won't Get Fooled Again during that time too.
I come back to watch this performance time & time again.. never gets old. Absolutely my favourite version ❤
she truly stole the show that night......................period.
Elton did great, and Steve Winwood too. Not even mentioning the amazing Who.
I love how John Entwistle is always so calm. Thank You Pete Townshend for making such a great album - Tommy.
This ever gets old!
+haypeppa87 ok
The BEST singer for mi
@@pattifanalwayz i want that dress
@@pattifanalwayz7388 ....she said it weighed a TON....lol...she almost forgot the words it was so heavy she could not do her usual running and zig zagging around the stage.....

Lady Marmalade the sequel. LOL! These lyrics are telling a story.
Patti can sing anything
She certainly can.Lady even slayed a country song on the Dolly Parton show.❤❤❤
I saw her for the first time in Feb and omg she gave me MAJOR CHILLS THE WHOLE TIME!!!!
TOTAL LEGEND! Love you Ms Labelle!
Oh my God, Patti did the shake.😂👍🏾
I was thirteen or fourteen when this aired. This performance blew me away. Still gives me goosebumps every time.
Outstanding performance,what a voice!Very underated.
I don't know what it is - but this is how you do it!!!!
Her talent knows no bounds!!! If it’s music it was made for her
She really is a talent, what a character!

@@msivanagomez YES AND PATTI LABELLE IS A GODDESS OF MUSIC !💞💋STILL TAKING IT TO THE STAGE LIKE NO OTHER IN 2019 NUFF SAID!💖💘
@@nico114334 uh, wrong....pull up the group, LaBelle's early albums, right on thru their last two (Phoenix and Chameleon), and the proof is in the pudding. LaBelle was a rock group, first...because thats what their main songwriter, Nona Hendryx wanted the group to be, after all those years singing bubblegum crap, when they were the Bluebelles. The Stones as well as The Who, toured with the Bluebelles as well as the group they became later, LaBelle, in the States and Europe. And LaBelle wasnt singing the blues...they were singing rock. The same rock n roll, that Tina is known for. But truth be told, Tina Turner was an r&b/blues singer, BEFORE her and Ike specialized in rock. "Who's Watching the Watcher"..a song Nona wrote. Search it on RUclips and tell me that aint rock n roll.
Patti's outfit would fit perfectly for the character Queen of the Night, from Mozart's magic flute.
What a performance !!!! DIVA !!
This girl rocks !!!!!!!!!!
The who is the best band of rock'n"roll of the world.
I love the who.
Apart from the Goddess performance, she really gets the character of the Acid Queen.

That's how to rock !!

Certo che sì, Filippo, come non potrei! Ti invio un cordiale saluto. 🎸🎶👍🏽
What a performance!! Outstanding!
Bravo Miss Patti🙌🏻( could be Ursula The Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid! 👍🏻)
When they performed this outdoors, Entwistle's coat could be seen from space😎✌👍
Vocal pyrotechnics!
Had this and others pre-2007-8 on LaserDisc in my collection, I'd heard Pete did the Windmill and injured his hand on the electric guitar tremolo bar, was said he might give up electric because of his hearing as well...1989 was a GOOD year, however!
This is how girls should rock,, Dare I say it's better than Tina was in the film. Roger Daltrey is enjoying the performance too.
no one is better than Tina no one idiot
Did you see how far she hit those notes, more than Tina Turner did.
I've been listening to this brilliant album for 46 yrs, Patti is the best singing "Acid Queen".
@JC If you know anything about Patti, she literally cannot stand in one spot. She can roll around on the ground with all them octaves.
Patty la Belle the BEST singer for mi
Thank you for sharing!!!! I am going to see the reboot of “Tommy” tomorrow in downtown Chicago at the Goodman theater. I’m so excited. 😊
...I always loved how Patti changed the line, "...Young, but not a C-hild..." to, "...yum-young..." (1:08) ...indicating 'Tommy' is a tasty TREAT to her! ...ha-HAAA!
Having enjoyed Tina Turner kill this. Envy me, I saw Patti LaBelle also murder this. 👑🎤🫳
Thumbs up
Of course only Tina Turner could top this. I actually have the original VHS tape of this. Bought it off ebay only for this song. Lol.
N Esq sounds like something I would do!!!
COME ON PATTI !!!!!!!!!!

I wish we could've gotten some sort of Patti and Tina collab. They're my 2 favorites. Great vocalists!
I wish Patti would have recorded a rock album.

As good as this is. It still doesn’t hold a candle to Tina Turner’s performance in the ‘75 movie. That’s the absolute ultimate version of this song.

Exactly Tina Turner is the best!
This was live.Patti wins.
Live vs Multiple takes and studio vocals... It's no match honestly Patti is unmatched so much I never knew Tina did it first but both Legends ❤️
