Whenever I someone asks if P90 guitars have a dynamic range, I just lead them to a live Who video from this time. Pete was a monster on that SG. From chiming bell tones to melt your face, all by fussing with the volume knobs.
Much prefer that era's live rawness with it's vocal imperfections than today's modern polished word perfect live performances. The who, stones, zep etc, created a template for real raw rock and roll performances.
Agreed. Tech has made everything sound too perfect, forgetting that music is really about emotion and capturing something that perhaps can’t be recaptured.
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound sarcstic....when I posted that comment I was on one of those "runner's highs" that the marothon dudes talk about. Except mine was induced by The Who.
look at moon at the start man he was cool and craaaazy didnt show entwistle enough at all this is so cool this is music kids music real music instruments etcetc
as Ive aged, they've become one of my favorite groups...Im 53, now....so when I was a little guy, I didnt stop, look, and listen to them as much as I wish I could have, because I was so distracted being a Bowie and Roxy Music fan. Every now and then, Id give the Stones a whirl, because they did such a good job with funk and blues-infused tunes like "Miss You" and "Waitin' on A Friend"...so I was just as turned on to them, because of the funk/blues, I was "raised" on, as I was with Chaka Khan and Rufus. But the more I got into punk and alternative rock..the more I became a fan of The Who..because thats what their music is rooted in, in my opinion. The punk-slant is obvious, because they're not interested in sex appeal at all..they LOOK LIKE an organized mess when they're performing. And the alternative-slant is even more obvious than their punk-vibe, because THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN VERY CEREBRAL, when it comes to a lyric. Definitely one of the all time great, rock bands, hands down. And Daltrey, put thte fuckin' F in 'front man"....wow.
Really liked your comment mate, im 50 now and sort of grown up with the stones and other stuff from my parents, also the radio was more prevalent in the 70's and 80's Really so had an ear for all the stuff back then, but onto the who, like yourself a lot passed me by , the stones were my favourite and always will be, both bands had a very healthy respect for each other and a friendship also, lately I have been going through the who live especially the early 70's, another level to say the least, zeppelin get acres written about the live music but the who were doing it before them and I reckon they blew them away in their heydays
I think you got it backward. The Who came to the scene well before Punk or any so-called "Alternative" Rock. Those genres didn't exist when The Who arrived on the scene. Their first single was "I Can't Explain" in 1965. That's The Beatles era, and The Who were Pop when they started out. Those other genres, Punk and "Alternative", are rooted in The Who, which are first and foremost, a Hard Rock band. But the band is ultimately MUCH more, including Symphonic Rock(listen to Quadrophenia, arguably, Townsend's masterpiece).
I'm older now, 61, but Tommy still rocks!
Keith Moon drumming on "Christmas" is bomb- so crazy it's brilliant...
Played Tommy pinball machine in the 70s, my brother still makes me do my Ann-Margaret impression ❤

Listen to Johns bass....
They just sound so raw. Happy Christmas!
you cant see him that's for sure
I hate how they did him so dirty on all The Who concert flicks
Amazing band!!All four are from another planet,it like they've been hand picked.Mind blowing when they play live.
You got that right!
Fucking amazing. It seems like every member from The Who is from another planet.
Woodstock 1969 is still the peak . But this is very great .
Christmas. The symbolic core of Tommy

Nadie puede con Keith Moon es el mejor baterista que existio.
Moon the best drums. N1
:22 is pure ROCK right there.
You can see the fatigue present after all the tours, etc... Troopers still keep going.

0:00 That stick twirl
Moon's re-entry at 2:35 is epic

You're right. And an Gibson SG in hands. :D
Awesome just F/N Awesome
Another version softer than The Who's Metal hard core sound.. So interesting
Continuo amando
They MEANT it
high times
Moon did play those drums like a little awkward but like a mad man
they were all tripping on acid
No, at least not Daltrey. He didn't like acid much, especially when performing
Pete had to clean up after the show, hence the coveralls.
unwillingly I should add.
fuck do I wish I was their to bad I was only 3 yrs old
explosive as shit
I get y my baby shuts off comments, because
Pretty bad singing, but great drumming
As always 😂
This performance was fucking super acid.. so raw, so straight to face.. No bullshit
Zep #1...Who#2 oat.
Reverse that and then you have the correct order
