Love it. I came to the hobby with a WPL C24, I upgraded it with the 2-speed gearbox (a must in these cars, the torque in 1st gear is amazing), and learned a lot by fixing and upgrading it. When I jumped to the 1/10th scale on a TRX4 I found it piece of cake!!!

I have several of these little guys along with over 40 1/10 scale rigs, I've been in the hobby since around 2008. I took what I learned from the 1/10 scale stuff and applied it to these little guys and what these can do once they are modded is amazing. My first two of these were some of the very first RTR versions and were complete garbage, the best thing about them was the sweet Toyota Hilux bodies. The best way to get these is the all metal kit version and add your own hobby grade electronics, very solid platform then.

nice review. thanks for showing this WPL C34 to the RC community. a cheap way to get into the hobby. i know that because i started with these small trail crawlers. they are good for customizing and upgrades are aplenty and cheap, too.
i built a metal kit version of this and placed hobby grade electronics (esc, tx/rx). the not so-clear instruction sheets plus the newbie me were the reasons it took me a while in building it. but the final result made me proud and its a blast to play with.
WPL users also has a strong community in social media and they are a “friendly” bunch and members come from all over the world.
tito francis, what happened to your WPL D12 project? i was waiting for the D12 drift build. hope to see it soon.
it is the first time i heard that the stock rtr tires were compared to garden hoses. lol.
have a happy and safe weekend, tito! 😀

The RTR's are ok, but the beauty is that they can be upgraded cheaply and parts are readily available. My son and I got into WPL about 3 years ago. We started with RTR's and upgraded. When I built my 6x6 I did the kit version with a winch and a 6 channel radio. It also has the 2 speed transmission which is really smooth and reliable.
These little trucks are very capable when souped up a bit and are very legit crawlers! Welcome to the fun world of WPL!

When this was first released a few years ago, I pre ordered the kit version with the metal upgrades. I haven’t messed with it in a while. I need to rebuild the axles. I just don’t want to wait for parts… but I really like the WPL trucks. Kit version tires are much softer. And look at their “V3” electronics upgrade package. I think you’ll be impressed.

@@RCReviewChannel There's a huge community for the WPLs. The WPL group on Facebook has nearly 20.000 members, more than say the largest Traxxas TRX4 group I found. And the groups are generally a lot less toxic (less bro culture and toxic masculinity stuff, more supporting and helping eachother out) than some of the more general RC crawler groups and brand name groups I'm in.
You'll see some pretty impressive builds from these cheap WPL trucks in the WPL groups, including some absolutely bonkers D12 drifters and crazy lcg C-series builds.

I do a bit of toy to rc conversion particularly with Bruder toys from Germany. But this particular model is near and dear to me since I grew up on it as my Dad's daily drivers to construction sites. I wished we kept one but this is the closest short of restoring the real thing plus it's way cheaper :) Not to digress but do have a question for you since I recently got a good deal on Prime Day on an FS-GT5, I just want to know if you happen to have any recommendations for alternative receivers than the one that came with it, the FS-BS6. I know it's not that bad price wise but when you see other FS receivers that are cheaper even if they're 3 or 4 channels, it's rather tempting. Thanks in advance!

Upgrade it with the dual speed gearbox and 370 motor (quick high gear, plenty of torque low gear), RES v3 ESC and radio (which has sound kit, winch support, ports for more lights, drag brake, 3S support and so on) and some kit tires (way softer than the RTR ones).
Or just get the KM kit that has all that stuff, plus metal axles and axle housings, metal links, metal geared servo and metal drive shafts. I addition to WPLs own upgrades, there are a _lot_ of third party upgrades for these too - some worth it, some trash.

My youtube channel,it's idea, and the whole addiction to this hobby started around those tiny, capable, and cheap trucks.I started with one kit because i wasn't sure if i would commit with the hobby.A year later, here i still am!Hard bodies are awesome. If you want more of a hobby grade WPL truck,KM KITs is the way to go(metal axles, two speed transmission on some models, single speed on others. And you can put your own electronics.I run hobbywing 1060 on most of my trucks. Also while i don't like the wpl transmitter, the wpl v3 esc/receiver combo is just perfect for this size of trucks, awesome drag brake/modulation..The tires on kit models are much softer compound, yet the best are the V4 wpl tires(foams included and plastic rims) originally made for the C54 WPL,the last design they released. My ongoing project is the same model as you have on this video, but custom body wise😅,paired with 1060 hw.I own a couple of FJ models,3 hilux versions(2 custom,1 yet stock),and a D12 which i bought after seeing it on your channel.I would suggest buying mostly from wpl official store, never had issues, but i never resist some cheap deals on bangood for the extra bodies i love to customize.
I do mostly running videos so feel free to take a look on my channel at what these trucks can do on the trail with slight improvements like angling the suspension,at 1/16ish scale(some models are 1/12 like the FJ)
Below is my ongoing C34 project, paired with my C44 on a trail. The chassis is mostly stock on both, bodies are customized. The red truck has the v4 WPL tires, imo the best compound i found for this scale.
