There is so much choice if you want a decent mini crawler nowadays. Yes, you can start upgrading this truck but then you are investing quite a bit of money and other options start to make more sense.
The suspension is way to stiff, unles it is on flat ground there are on 2/3 tyres touching, no woder the traction was rubbish. Nice honest review. Thanks
Been waiting for your review on this one Phil. I was excited about the new motor/transmission setup but disappointed when i heard it was a 260 motor. Would love to see a review on the MN128 jeep Rubicon RTR. Love your content!
@@PaulSpehar It's a complete change from the previous RTR, it's much more like the C34KM flat gearbox, it has similar offset output shafts that counter rotate and there's a new three link and panhard rod suspension design to accommodate the offset motor. The hard compound tires are good for rtr for the durability but traction is terrible the soft ones pull well but you do then put more strain on the driveline, ive kept the hard ones on my B16 as ive snapped a few drive shafts until i went to metal ones now the low range in my 2 speed box is starting to play up skipping teeth but ive got the V3 radio gear with the sound. Just converted the cab to look like the newer M928 instead of the M35 wpl based it off. Ive had 2 solid house bricks in the bed and its moved them around pretty well, the next upgrade will be metal axles though for the bearings and the metal gearbox gears
the 1/16 scale stuff is gaining aftermarket now, still a good entry point to that scale especially considering if you want a Hilux or LC hard body you can't get a much better start.
I appreciate your evaluation of the little crawler. It appears as you said the appearance is great, but the performance was lacking. I was surprised that the tires were so bad.
I've got one on order too Phil, though I've already got plans for upgrading it. I'm going to be dropping a spare V3 board into this, along with a spare set of soft kit tyres.

I'm also not a fan of the 270 motor, or whatever it is. Those motors have always been an awkward size, very few people have optimized them or reworked them, and the 130, 180, and 380 motors have been reworked by RC nerds, NERF and other foam flinging blasters nerds have many lines of these sizes of motors which allow a huge range of choices to dial in your rigs, whatever they may be. I am very excited about the new gearbox, though, I do love the 2 speed versions, I have the damnedest time dialing in that 3mm gear shift bar the servo actuates. It's such a small line on the bar of a working zone, and I've not mastered that yet. Always look forward to your WPL videos, all your videos are good for a laugh, entertainment, and insight. Thanks for the review, as its always nice to see some cheaper alternatives to the TRX4m, as that way you can get some cheap extra cars for friends to use that you can fix or replace cheaply if/when they break them :-) I would also love to see the new motor and gear box tested with some other ESC and electronics options, as it could just be the included basic electronics just can't really handle the extra load of the bigger motor.
Fair review imo ! I don't really see the big improvement as other people are bragging about it ! Most of the people who run WPL would upgrade the motor/gear box and esc along with suspension . Same as the V3 radio not really great unless you use a 3s lipo and still no end points !
