He is sooo right about the depression thing (starts around 3:45). When you're chronically depressed, feeling bad becomes "normal", and when you start to feel good, your lower brain kicks in and says "hey wait a minute, this isn't normal! This is different and frightening. Quick, find something to feel bad about & get us back to the state we're used to being in!"
I’d say it is worse being angry all the time than being sad because at least you can sit with yourself when you are sad, like if I am sad I can cry and feel better. Even if it is chronic I would consider that better than being angry because I never know what is happening when I am angry, my anger is getting better though. I don’t get angry all the time like I used to, but I still have difficulty dealing with stress. But even then I can still figure it out. Anyways I hope you feel better knowing that sometimes it is necessary to feel sad and that you don’t have to always pretend it is fine
Going to a psychiatrist and taking antidepressants is the biggest mistake you can possibly make. Confidentiality??? Do you actually believe that crap? Everytime somebody shoots up their former place of employment and you hear about it on the news, they always say..."The man had a history of mental illness." How do they know?
I love Patton's depression material. It speaks to my soul. I've been on meds and in therapy for nearly 5 years now. I am also a parent of young child... I totally get it. LOVE YOU PATTON!
If you're questioning it, you haven't been depressed. I live on the 9th floor of a condo and think a lot about jumping. I'm not going to, but the thought is there always... That's depression
Uh no. What you’re describing is more on the suicidal side of things. Depression is an overwhelming sense of malaise where simply dealing and functioning in society is a monumental task.
@@HellAtlantic There's a reason why it's called suicidal depression. It doesn't mean it isn't depression. It's just a different form of it. So yeah... their statement stands. It's depression.
I feel you all too well, I'd love to pick his mind on it. Get some advice anyway. But we all do what we can otherwise. I hope things have been better for you since then!
He described my dog precisely ... and me when I cut back on escitalopram.

His description of depression is so spot-on ('cause it's kind of the same deal when I go through these phases) that I don't know if I should laugh or not.
demvoter&damnproudofit: Wish I could sit and talk to you about your depression. I fought it for so many years, in so many ways. The best, quickest thing a counselor told me was this: Ask yourself, "Am I all right, RIGHT NOW?" If you are, then you are okay for the moment. That's it. Try Martin Seligman's Book, "What You Can Change & What You Can't." You can find a used copy on Ebay for cheap. It has one chapter on depression that was crucially helpful to me, and might help you, too. Also, there is likely someone you deal with often who is making you think you are "less" than you are. You need to pay attention to how you feel about what is said to you and about you to others. Does it disturb you? Maybe you need to deal with them a lot less. How would you feel if that person were out of your life? Better? That's a clue.Realize that in spite of what they say, you can still be OK in any given moment. You can also be ANGRY at them. Which helps you know when you should get away as much as possible. I'm so sad you're going through this. I'm sending you my strongest wishes that at least one of these ideas helps you at least a little.
Jillian Smith How kind you are, thank you so much. I will try the book. I have read hundreds by now I’m sure. +6+ years of therapy plus years of meds… Pretty much all the people I had in my life told me I was less than I was so now I have affectively rid myself of all of them, except my family, and I’ve removed myself from them by 2000 miles. I’m an introvert and I live in isolation bc making new friends as an older adult is pretty hard and I don’t like groups. I do love Patton Oswalt and comedy. Laughing is a good medicine -and so are my dogs. ❤️
Teykel Meeka this is kind of turning into an interesting thread about depression and meds. so many of us struggle. I went off prozac slowly-w dr approval-7 months ago because I was a zombie. I didn’t want to kill myself, but I was just a rock. even sweeping the floor was impossible. I could barely move. Then I discovered Kratom. watch ‘a leaf of faith,’ on netflix. it’s a legal herb and it helps me w depression/lack of energy. it is not speed, not an opiate. best wishes. ❤️
In 2010 he predicted 20 years in the future that there would be a falling out nuclear apocalyptic wasteland. It's 2020 a mere 10 years later, and at the time this came out I was like yeah right...... Now I'm like, "wouldn't surprise me"
He reminded me of my dog except he had a 6th sense I swear - before i would get my shoes and I was just thinking about how to not let on (cos he would go nuts as soon as he knew he was going out), and he would look at me, cock his head to the side and start wagging his tail...any movement after that and the barking would start! I miss him!
I just got suspended from my college radio show for playing the Halloween bit on my show in the afternoon. Kind of derails my plans for playing the "Christmas Shoes" bit later in December.
If you haven't seen Happy!, you must. It is a complete run of full on odd. Patton voices a plush purple unicorn. And that isn't even close to how bizarre it gets. Just when you think it's gone nuts, it takes a hard turn.. To the right, to the left, who knows.
No prozac in the coming wasteland!? Man, I can feel my soul dying.... XD "Uncle Touchy's Naked Puzzle Basement... You won't were a shirt, and you'll cry..." LMAO
haha, Puzzle Basement. I once asked my friend to give me a ride to go get groceries, and I told him to bring me to "Whole Foods Adventure Market." We got there and he said, "Hey... it's not 'Adventure'..."
@ometta7 Thank you. Ratatouille is one of my all time favorite movies. It is how I discovered Patton and now he is one of my favorite comedians. I find it wierd that I like watching him with my Remy plushy. Oh well.
I do very similar things due to my abiding belief that I eventually will go back in time to medieval England. I learned middle english scripts and speech, have a stock hold of spices and I know how to make antibiotics when the black plague strikes. None of this has ever or will ever be useful to me (other than the spices)

Yes. Sad becomes normal, to put it simply. The ground state of existence is depression. Very hard to dig out of.
I've never talked to someone ten years in the past before. Is this like time travel?
@@anydaynow It's like the cheap, knock-off store-brand Time Travel 😜

Confidentiality???
Do you actually believe that crap?
Everytime somebody shoots up their former place of employment and you hear about it on the news, they always say..."The man had a history of mental illness."
How do they know?
Wearing your bathrobe for 8 days straight and watching The Princess Bride 11 times in a row. Best description of depression ever.
1st world depression.
fuck man, his pause between saying uncle touchy's naked puzzle basement and then beginning the accompanying song for it is perfection
"Yeah, do me right in the dirt button, mohawk. I don't care."
'I don't wanna be in the wasteland fat and depressed.'
2020 *happens*
I read this right when he said it
The profecy was true
Fuuuuuuuuck.....
@Kylo Nicholas fantastic:)
2009 "when society collapses in 20 years". 2020 happens.... >head explodes
"Uncle Touchy's naked puzzle basement. You won't wear a shirt and you'll cry." So funny lol.
Yeah, I died.
Gets me every time
I love Patton's depression material. It speaks to my soul. I've been on meds and in therapy for nearly 5 years now. I am also a parent of young child... I totally get it. LOVE YOU PATTON!
God help you both
Hope you're better
Incredibly honest about his depression. Hats of to him for sharing
"Uncle Touchy's Naked Puzzle Basement" is one of the funniest things I've heard in a LOOONG time.
Maybe it’s just 12 full months of lockdown talking, but “do me right in the dirt button Mohawk” fucking killed me. I needed a laugh like that
I lost it at that 😂😂😂
I've felt down before, but after listening to Patton Oswalt, I don't think I've ever been really depressed. Depression sounds real bad.
If you're questioning it, you haven't been depressed. I live on the 9th floor of a condo and think a lot about jumping. I'm not going to, but the thought is there always... That's depression

Oh Patton...I had the same thought about my anti-depressant not being available after civilization collapses.
I'm going through some stuff, and Patton Oswalt's obviously depression/cynicism feuled comedy oddly works.
I hope things have improved for you.
Yeah man hopes everythings good
oh fuck same
Check out Gary Gulman's treasure trove on RUclips. The guy is a genius.

This guy is so good!
"The Sad Boy" this guy is a pro. a pro.
A decade and a half, I’m only now realizing Patton voiced Remy
He described my dog precisely ... and me when I cut back on escitalopram.

PhilFightmaster [DARBEV] laugh. it's the point of comedy
Action Film Therapie: laugh, as long as you can.
the legit def is: comedy=tragedy+time.

This guy always makes me smile :) I could be in the worse mood and I'll smile. Uncle Touchy's Naked Puzzle Basement did it today for me :)
I'm actually watching this with my Remy plushy. So technically I'm hugging and kissing Patton while he's making me laugh.
the dog bit is my favorite patton bit that i've seen by far XDXD it makes me almost cry laughing lol
"In 20 years society is going to collapse"

"Uncle touchie's puzzle basement. You won't wear a shirt and you'll cry." LMAO LMAO LMAO. Such good shit all while getting an oil change
Omg everything about Patton Oswalt. Should I laugh or cry? Its so accurate hahaha
OMG I do the same thing when it comes to meds and fear of a coming doom. It's such a baaaaad idea. OMG I so know the feeling.

I have had to listen to this bit like 200 times to stop crying from the initial shock. this bit floored me without fail for so long.

"Do me in the dirt button" has to be the greatest line from Patton
I've watched "The Princess Bride" 11 times in a row. Is that a sign of something???
I just got suspended from my college radio show for playing the Halloween bit on my show in the afternoon.

Be thankful your dog waits for signs. My dog knows by the time of day (year round) when the walk is and will nag us when we're late getting ready.

If this came out 11 years ago I think his 20 year prediction seems to be on track
"Uncle Touchy's Naked Puzzle Basement, You won't wear and a Shirt and you'll Cry"
CLASSIC!!
haha, Puzzle Basement.
I once asked my friend to give me a ride to go get groceries, and I told him to bring me to "Whole Foods Adventure Market." We got there and he said, "Hey... it's not 'Adventure'..."
"Uncle Touchy's Naked Puzzle Basement" is now what I'm calling every Professor Layton Game. I do not feel awful about this at all.
@ometta7 Thank you. Ratatouille is one of my all time favorite movies. It is how I discovered Patton and now he is one of my favorite comedians. I find it wierd that I like watching him with my Remy plushy. Oh well.
"Does this wash cloth smell like chloroform- what do you think?"
" in 20 years Society will collapse " with how this year is going yes

It was really fun! *RIP, BLEED*
My dude is a genius
Anyone have footage of the Disney channel interviews he did?
Yup
The real question should be if anybody has the footage for: “Uncle Touchy’s Naked Puzzle Basement.”?
Nope
Damn, I so want to drink scotch and smoke weed with Patton on Halloween. That would be my heaven on earth.
Wait, princess bride fandom is a sign of depression?! I'm gona die.
I’m rarely depressed but when I am.... I watch the princess bride.🤣

In tears laughing at that end point...
He is great!

Glorious.
Oh shit! This is looking gooooood!

This hits differently in 2020.

Welcome to Uncle Touchy's Pizza Joint!
All the kids just love Uncle Touchy's naked puzzle basement! The best indoor underground playground around!

There’s still time folks!
I think it's funny that the two highest comments are the same.
Oh my god I didnt realize he was Remy until he said it. Wtf
Well Remy is French
Six more years to the irradiated road warrior wasteland
9 people were taken down to the Naked Puzzle Basement
Escutcheon, Patton.
Why do I relate with him so much?
His description on taking Prozac is light and funny.
I somehow mentally replaced Patton Oswalt with Jim Gaffigan in my memory of which comedian did Uncle Touchy's Naked Puzzle Basement
those curtains look like goatee
4:06 Wait, you guys don't do that all the time anyway?
10 more years!
"Tube of Circus Peanuts" is a good college band name.
I should try Prozac. :(
I can relate to his description on taking Prozac.
That road warrior waste land... I'll be book of Eli, feel for the rest of y'all though
i felt that prozac thing bfnfnfnn
I like how he does Halloween...
9 people went to Uncle Touchy's Puzzle Basement.
