This is all good advice. The problem I had was I accidentally dropped a connector retaining clip into a well on the back of my Yaris. The telescopic magnet didn't work as this clung to side and retracted when I tried to push it down. In the end I bought a 10mm diameter by 5mm magnet with a hole in the centre and attached it to a wire made from a straightened coat hanger. I made a hook at the other end. I retrieved the clip in less than a minute. Hope this helps.

I'm getting desperate right now. This was a last ditch effort. Was working on a Porsche (which is rear engine because German Engineering is exactly that) and trying to get this bolt in that was obstructed by 2 tubes. Lost it and now praying it isn't in the cam belt😶
Edit: Got it out and in its place. A tip is if you start the car up or put it in neutral and let it get up some speed then pump the brakes it can dislodged it from anywhere like between tubes or on a ledge. Great vid btw.

another tip, check and see if there are any openings in the plastic underside of the car. get a strong wire (coat hanger is what i used) and push the item towards the hole. this works best if the opening is on the side/front where you can easily grab it. saved me a ton of trouble :)

Was trying to replace my EVAP valve in my mustang when my torque wrench decided to drop into my engine bay. I tried everything in the video and don’t get me wrong it was extremely helpful, but it was just inside a spot where not only could I not reach it, no amount of swaying or anything could get the thing to fall out from where it was. Eventually my last hoorah was driving around the block to move it to a reasonable spot and using an extendable magnet I had from my childhood to reach it and finally grab it 💀💀

Yo! This video gave me hope! I just finished a mod on my 2018 Camaro SS 1LE I dropped a bit on the LAST screw I put in. I heard it hit metal so I was extremely worried and didn't want to have to life the whole car (since I wasn't sure if the bit was in the timing belt or anything it may damage). After he said "trace where it could have fallen.." I checked again and it was in fact in an easy to reach part of the timing belt 🤣

My escape is too tall to reach the bottom even if im literally laying on the engine bay. Luckily the only thing wrong with my car is the undertray in the front right is broken/not connected ( I can see into the car when laying on the ground). There was just enough space for me to reach through and grab my phone, I can't believe how quick I got it back (10 minutes) . Hopefully this somehow helps someone get a heavy object back.

Dropped a battery back for an ultrasonic rat repellent. It’s on the bottom of the engine bay, sort of near the front tire, but sitting on the tray. Is it safe to drive I wonder? I tried to knock it out but it didn’t go

  • @shoyrushoyru
    @shoyrushoyru Год назад +6

I dropped a headlight bulb cover into the bay and it hit the wheel well and slid down and disappeared.
I came here in desperation for tips and tricks or any actual idea of the layout of an engine bay, but luckily after tons of searching with the use of an endoscope camera and some more primitive methods, we found the cover-it was in a pouch-like section of the plastic tray immediately in front of the wheel, and we had barely enough space to get some fingers and a contorted hand in through a gap in the wheel well shield to grab it, while pushing the cap up to be more easily reached through the tray’s drainage holes with a pencil. It was about a two hour ordeal in 40 degree weather during the night with flashlights.

Socket extension fell could see it but jammed in between wires. I grabbed it with pliers and was pulling it out when it fell... Couple of clanks then gone. Checked the fan and it wasn't there. Gave up after an hour and tried bouncing the car on a curb and still nothing. So frustrating. 3 hours for a battery swap.

      Hi and thanks for watching!
That's a pretty challenging task to find a socket in an engine bay of that size.
But at least it's a big socket. Luckily it's not an 8 or 10 mm.
When those go, its seems like the engine ate them 🙂.

ANOTHER OPTION: I luckily dropped my phone in there while its light was on so I could spot it easily enough. I just reached my hand under the car and slammed into the plastic bottom until my phone made it to the back edge of the tray and then I used a screwdriver to (could have used just my hand) knock the phone out of the open backside.

@@doctorrai6651 Hi thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply.
I always recommend retrieving the screw because you never know where it landed.
But if it's too much work to reach it (which it usually is because you'll probably need to dismantle a lot of trimming and plastics), leave it and hope for the best.
This happened to me on several occasions on different cars and to be honest, I left them there until an occasion occurred to dismantle the dashboard trim.
      Hope this helps.
