I lived in Germany and bought one of these traps in 1968 or 1969. It was a clever design but I never used it to catch mice. Just thought the design was clever and bought it on a whim.
That is a really good design. I like that you have the option to customize it if you want to make it lethal or non-lethal too. For that mouse hitting into it and triggering the door early, I could see it even updated to have a motion censor inside instead, to make it more efficient at catching it.
Just to experiment, I set one of those old-fashioned wooden snap traps against the wall, knowing that mice travel along walls most of the time. I placed the narrow side with the trigger pad right against the wall itself. No bait or anything. Sure enough, caught one before the next morning. I guess they'd rather climb over something than go around because they feel less exposed. I can't understand why Shawn usually leaves space between his traps and the wall. The only reason to leave space behind the trap is if it (the trap) needs space for its mechanism to work.
If you know where a mouse run is it's fairly easy. Mice are cute and all but they're dumb as bricks and that's an insult to bricks. While people usually see rats as dirtier versions of mice they're smarter by an order of magnitude. You'll almost never catch a rat by mistake.
@@browngreen933 Not sure why my comment keeps getting censored but basically mice learn, too many mice, and they do not work well outdoors with snow or on gravel.
Are there anywhere some construction plans for this trap out there? I would love to build one on my own. I dont really care that much about plastic 3d prints, or technological advancements that have sensors and batteries and connect to your phone. Just the miracle of great engineering and some pieces of wood and metal
Not as good as the Dizzy Dunker. Its such an overly roundabout way to get a mouse into a bucket. Shawn's Dizzy Dunker has the same end result, but instead of needing all these levers to reset it, a simple rotating paddle is always ready.
Shaw, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving....... and great to see you as always, thanks for another vid. Always fun to see the imagination in those traps and others at work in their design. Always fun stuff. God Bless you and your family, Rock on.

I miss the days when we could see wildlife enjoying a mouse snack.
In the before times of 2016 he could show the lethal traps in action 😢
Best part of the videos
Cry abt it
I do miss it, too. Why doesn't he show wildlife footage anymore?
@@darrylk808because RUclips won't pay him to, and nobody wants to sponsor him.
It's like giving the mouse a little adventure before you drown it.

It's a shame RUclips is trying to suppress this channel. Keep it going Shawn.
That trap design is genius
What happened to feeding the wild life with the mice you caught? Great video. Wonderful Mouse trap.
Triggers the libs😂
I'm guessing RUclips gave him a warning Too many weak, fragile individuals that can't stand to see vermin eaten.
I was thinking the same thing myself!
Triggers the Reich wing
RUclips sensitive types demonetized videos.
Probably one of the coolest traps ever . I like the bucket flip traps. I’ve had great success with them
Was there ever a situation where you forgot to put the bait into a trap but caught a curious mouse anyway?

@eamonahern7495 There was a case in an England museum where a mouse got caught in a (live catch) antique trap when it was on display.
Love mouse trap Monday’s!!!
I've been watching your videos for years. I'm baffled at how you STILL always have mice in the barn. :D
I live next door to a huge hay field. They materialize out of thin air, I do believe.
Mousetrap Monday OG's know. Keep it up, Shawn!
I have a original one that is in really good condition with the labels on it that I still use.
Best damn mouse show on RUclips!
There is a mink vs. rat channel too.
I totally agree with you❤
Awesome thank you 😄
Damn at least have the sound of the snapping mouse trap at the end of the video like you use 2☹️
still one of the most elegant designs, would have to say perfect.
damn, i thought that was a fancy mouse guillotine. kinda disappointed ngl
I thought Capito stood for decapitato
If you coated the inside of the tank with cooking spray would that keep mice from jumping out as a live catch trap?
Possibly
So an extra piece of plywood nailed to the front to hide the door while it is in the raised position?
That is how physics, optics and matter work, yes
I need this. My mice will no longer climb up bucket traps and electric traps don't work when it is too cold or there is snow on the ground.
Why not use simple snap traps?

Good work Crawdaddy
Aw I wanted to see you feed the wild.
No more. Nannies on RUclips want us to know that wildlife all gets their food at the supermarket and nothing ever kills anything in rainbow land.
good video, thanks

You should just copy what you see in the video. It's quite a simple mechanism.
Your little buddy needs combat pay.

Interesting design
Field mouse kept eating my mail so I tried the old school snap trap with some Nutella and flaxseeds. Didn’t stand a chance.
would a bigger version work for rats ?
You jist need to watch this video a couple times, easy enough to figure it out
Clever design
What happened to the “thumbs up” when the trap is deployed? 👍
I wonder how easy it would be to make a 3D printed version of this 🤔
Love that trap
hi. i found a pretty neat "clock works" mouse trap here in new york. dont know how to contact you but i thought you may be interested...
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gas powered? XD 😅😂
Came so close to being humane catch & release, but then you HAD to add the water...
