Hey Shawn, I have at least 1 mouse in my ceiling/ walls. I don’t know how they are getting in or the best way to get rid of them. I love the prototype #8 the silver fat roller one. I was going to put that outside, where I “think” they may be coming in. Any ideas on doing something inside? Make small hole, then pvc pipe from hole leading to single catch trap, taping any openings?? Your thoughts on everything. Thank you ,keep the great videos coming, they are very helpful! Chuck
So often, it can be a mistake to over-engineer a simple solution by making it electronic. This is definitely NOT one of those failures. This is a very tasteful and practical use of electronics to genuinely enhance an already great mouse trap
Yeah the mechanical rolling log mousetrap has to be fine tuned between two ways it couldn't catch mice: if it's slippery (mice run away) and if it's stiff (mice don't get caught). You can catch smaller mice by making it slippery or bigger mice by making it stiff, but not both, so a lot of the mice will not get caught. Electric rolling log trap can be both extremely stiff and extremely slippery.
German cars are famous for over-engineering. Like, for example, BMW eliminating dipsticks and expecting the driver to rely on sensors. There was absolutely no reason for doing this. This and many other reasons are why they are German cars are expensive to maintain, because things are more prone to breaking. I agree, the sensors in this trap actually solves a problem. It doesn't create new problems. This video is proof that you can always build a better mousetrap. This was a great design, and great use of technology.
@@michaelbuckers I think with the motor flinging off the mice forcefully, the surface could actually have a little more grip; just enough that the mice are not hesitant to walk the gang plank. Does anybody have a clue what the trigger sensing is? Shawn mentioned 'gravity' near the beginning.

Great invention. The engineer should consider putting this into production. I really think he has something that could help people and financially reward his effort at the same time.
China is supposedly not doing so great in industrial output due to the Corona Virus? Is it BS Deep State propaganda? Is it real or is it Memorex? I would try to avoid getting the virus regardless of the Propaganda being spouted by the media. Especially on JRUclips. Worldwide trade and economic output will take a huge hit. Without question. You and your family could be quarantined for ~30+ days on a whim by the Feds. Your milage may vary. Please do your own research before coming to any conclusions.
Prototype 8 doesn't require calibration, because it doesn't use a gravity sensor. It looks and seems to operate using a continuity check. That is, when the mice make contact between the two parts of the roller, it completes the circuit, tripping a relay that sends voltage to the motor. Very much simplifying the design, and making it much less fussy. Awesome engineering on his part.
When he said he posted over 550 videos and I couldn’t find a video I didn’t already watch I was kind of embarrassed. I don’t even have a rodent problem but I love the entertainment lmao.
Yeah! There was even one video where the trap was a row of nooses. Like a 4-in-one trap. The mice came by, saw their dead friend caught in one of the nooses, then promptly dived into the noose right next to their deceased friend and got caught as well
Out of all the traps I've seen so far, this is indeed the most impressive at catching. The person who designed the trap is a genius. Wonder how that will go when the design becomes final.

Seems those who feel sorry for the mice are almost never the ones to clean up after them.
So I've noticed from watching so many of your videos that this trap does have one advantage. It doesn't seem to scare the near by mice when it's set off. Many of the other traps, particularly the dunk traps that drops the floor, have a tendency to scare the surrounding mice causing them to not come back so fast. These traps don't seem to scare them so they are more likely to go after the bait. That alone is a big win. I feel like that's why they caught so many. I'm betting you could wipe out an entire nest in just a few days to a week if you let all 3 run day and night. Granted more would come but it could certainly keep the population down.

Yes, since Mrs. Frisby's husband on Mrs. Frisby & the Rats of NIMH was once of the mice who learned how to read, along w/ the rats. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) & Nickle Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery.
Those batteries have high self-discharge rates. But they are safer getting charged just with a simple wall adapter. Provided that the chip doesn't draw much, upgrading to a lithium pack would allow the trap to remain functional for much longer.

A "NIMH" battery.
For catching mice.
It's almost poetic.

Tell the inventor to create a mailing list. So we can sign up and get updates.
yea he needs to do this. people will forget to check back to this video description and may miss the release of this being sold.
I'm sure he'll start a Kickstarter or Gofundme page. Seems like he's got it working well. Probably waiting for Corona to clear so he can head to China.
Perhaps ask the inventor? A polite request most often creates a positive result.
Probably those imitation Chinesium product came out prior to the inventor release. He has to act fast. The rolling tube concept is way to.COMMON that it will be hard to patent. Only the electronics can but there are tons of way to control the tube.
@David Daivdson The traps will be handcrafted in Berlin (Germany) and individually checked by the developer!
Not in China or Taiwan!

Their is no "boss" music . . . . just a game over jingle.

what shawn sees: we'll feed the now dead animals to other animals
what I see: death pile of mice warns fellow friends to shelter their families

Also RUclips: taking their dead bodies and watching as different animals desecrate their corpses and consume their flesh. That's A-ok!
I've been using "Cap'n Crunch Berries" for bait lately - and the mice seem to *always* go for it. Better than seeds, better than peanut butter and chocolate even.
Crunch Berries, in my anecdotal experience, are mouse-crack.
Sounds like a challenge to Shawn's previous video on the best mouse lures.

Only on a professional level - trappers gotta trap. 🤘🤠🤘
And it's just anecdotal evidence on my part.
Part of which, is based on the very nasty experience of finding a mouse, who damned near suffocated himself, inside my bag o' Crunch Berries.
I let that mouse go... he was damned near dead when I found him. I figured that was fair enough trade for ruining what was left of my Crunch Berries.
