I think the extra bait (sunflower seeds) actually hindered the trap from working as expected (since they didn't need to go all the way in to get a snack, or go after the bait trigger).

We used to use 32oz soda bottles that were glass and the old milk bottles. Set them at an angle with some water in the bottom slide down and cannot get back up and out. Worked well. Enjoy the videos! Hat on and glasses too!

Not surprised, such a great channel considering its about mouse traps and not gaming or opening stuff. =P Honestly though I feel like these traps weren't given a fair shake. I would have had all the tabs set up on empty cans without modifying the openings and had all the cans secured together. maybe one night set it up again for a quick upload, no serious time put into it, just a simple video upload would be cool.

Shawn, I've watched a lot of these mouse trap videos and you seem to STILL have a lot of mice rolling around! What's your go to trap(s) and are you keeping count of kill/captured mice? Also, lose the glasses and keep the hat.
I'd like to see a pop weighted sensor design, I'm thinking just remove the tab and when the sensor goes off the can will be pushed into a box that doesn't have a clearance for the mouse get out.
I guess if you're looking for a live mouse trap but only has a capacity of 1, for like a university for example where they can't have a single lost due to can- niba- lism
Seems like a can like that could be the basis for a more successful trap. Bait the back of the can and have something spring loaded crush the front of the can and trap the mouse. That way it could be a no-touch disposable trap like a sticky trap or you could cut the can and release the mouse. Or if you wanted to make it a no-touch kill trap you could place it on some nails and have the mechanism drop something heavy on top.
As a marathon runner, you should know that its not empty calories with sugar... this is straight jet fuel, you just have to have eaten something else for the body to then burn AFTER you use up the sugar first. Soda is awesome to energize after a long ass run. Just make sure you eat some jerky with it.

I think you should collaborate with Lauri and Anni from the Hydraulic Press Channel. Rig up a can with a trigger down inside, then hook that to a pneumatic piston with a boot on it that stomps the can flat.
Fun fact: A rat may have died inside your soda can, and soda is acidic enough to corrode a rat, so if your soda tastes weird, a rat probably died in it

I wouldn't consider that a failure. They are so simple and cheap you could probably set out like 6 at a time and keep catching mice with them. They are good for repeat use, and the cans are easy to come by.
I wonder if a can could work as a trap if you laid it on its side and just didn't push the flap back very far or even cut the flap a bit. Kind of how hornet traps work with them being able to squeeze in, but not out.

The problem with that is that if the mouse dies of poisoning and the cat or dog eat it, they can be poisoned too.

Seems like a good idea for the price. Shoulda sold them in much higher quantity. They don't have to work every time if they are cheap enough.
I think the can trap has potential, it just needs to be slightly redesigned to make it less prone to failure.
