I get it, I see the appeal, I understand why it's cool, I understand why it works, I can definitely see the appeal, especially with certain color combination, but also I hate it. I hate it so, so much. hashtagmadrespect#
Space Marine colour theory is informed by their origins as late medieval landsknecht in space. The first Scouts even had the puffed and slashed sleeves and trousers!
A lot of great paint schemes get destroyed by sticking to the Codex Astates compliant color codes. Each company has a dedicated color (Red, Green, White ext) and this must be put on the armor (usually the helmet, shoulder trim or chest aquilla) to achieve compliance. Due to this usually looking goofy, you tend to only ever see one company color depicted in official art. It's like how almost all official Ultramarine art incorrectly uses gold shoulder trim because it looks much cooler than it being correctly green or red to match the way the Codex states to paint ya bois
Or have it be a stripe or marking of the required color without looking like you borrowed a helmet from a Salamander because yours is in the shop getting fixed.
Ad colors of the helmets in Emperor's Shields: It's because these are the colours designating those companies in Codex Astartes. 1st - White/Silver 2nd - Yellow/Gold (if you see an ultramarine with a gold trim - his 2nd company) 3rd - Red 4th - Green (look also Uriel Ventris) 5th - Black ...etc Some chapters use different means to designate companies (Dark Angels), true, but these sets of colours are Codex compliant in a literal sense.
00:35 color schemes that stand out was literally how i picked the schemes for my first chaos space marines. the fandom wiki's got a pictorial list of warbands and chapters and I just went with whatever I thought was neat.
7:00 the RWBY-erm... I mean red yellow white and black color schemes may have to do with the white scars overarching eastern influence as multiple eastern cultures put symbolic meaning to those colors in particular.
If you like the idea of aerial chapters, you should look into the Hawk Lords. They're a Second Founding Ultramarines successor that specializes in aerial combat and have developed a unique jump pack called Hawk Wings that can bear even Devastator Marines carrying heavy weapons into the air. Side note, please kitbash a Hawk Lord Devastator with Hawk Wings. That would be really cool.
Cute goober thumbnail. I love being able to make your own sm chapter. I have a bunch of guys called WarpWatch: Say the imperial navy is getting hijacked by chaos in the warp, let out the WarpWatch! White with neon orange and yellow trim for visibility (trust me it looks amazing!). They're anti psyker and latch themselves to the hull of a ship to fight off whatever eldritch horror is impeding warp travel. Hence, they're a last resort option, because It may feel like years for them, but only last a few minutes. Plus, we -don't- want anymore astartes falling to chaos. My own (and the best) honebrew chapter ✌️
2:22 The reason is that's the color order laid out by the codex astartes. I can also tell you the 6th is orange, the 7th is purple, the 8th is grey, and the 9th is blue.
I believe an honorable mention of the Emperor's Pointy Sticks is appropriate. They appeared in a web comic on Warhammer Community so they could be considered canon...right?
Another chapter I think would have fit well into the list are the "Storm Callers". Red pants, red powerpack, red pauldron trim, green aquila/imperialis, Black armor. Their color scheme is odd, but kind of charming in a way.
Oh I'm well aware. Like I said, I think the symbol is super cool. Most of the art pieces dedicated to the solar hawks seem to have the icon drawn in near ms paint quality
"There basically the only chapter that makes use of stormravens and thunderhawks" the raven guard 7th company LITERALLY does exactly that to extensive amounts
@@MishMashPainting i mean fair, but it is important to note that the whisperclaws also love their air vehicles, and they use dreadnoughts to train scouts which is neat
So, while I realise the Solar Hawks logo is meant to look like a hawk with a falcon hood/cap, Am I the only one who saw that and saw "Hawk with emo hair"?
But off topic because of the fact that they are traitors, but I love gladiator cadre 331 of the world eaters, they kept their og paint scheme from before the fall to chaos, which is white… so they still turn bloody red anyways… but I enjoy painting them… it took a lot of time to learn to paint in white for minis though… I use metallic medium instead of white or grey paint
Theoretically there are a million space marines out there. One-thousand chapters that are supposed to be composed of one-thousand marines. But since we know the latter isn't true it's fair to assume the former is not also.
You like angels of repentance but have you heard about emperors spears? If not let me tell you nothing about them because the only fan I know of them we booli for being a 40k fan who only reads the books like a nerd.
What happens whan a chapter unkowningly uses the exact paint scheme of a traitor legion before they met their primarch? Like the war hounds or the dusk raiders?
6:29 Ok, I know it's gauntlet grasping a halo. I know that. But... Maybe this is just me, ruined by the Internet. It also looks like it's fisting a sphincter...
Not cannonical atall, but I really do love the /tg/ 1d4chan (now 1d6chan if you want to read their short article) homebrew chapter called the Flesh helms. Whenever I remember thier exsistance it brings a smile to my face, the Crunchy Stuff is some of the funniest fannon stuff I've ever read.
I will not stand for the besmirching of split heraldry
Same
I think the nova marines do it pretty well
IRON LORDS RED PANTS GANG RISE UP
Real
Kit bash red jeans on my marine
Love me some red pants
I get it, I see the appeal, I understand why it's cool, I understand why it works, I can definitely see the appeal, especially with certain color combination, but also I hate it. I hate it so, so much. hashtagmadrespect#
HOORAH
Scythes of the Emperor always got me.
They always looked like a Raven Guard in a gold, women's swimsuit.
Space Marine colour theory is informed by their origins as late medieval landsknecht in space. The first Scouts even had the puffed and slashed sleeves and trousers!
I will not stand for iron lords red pants slander. they look really cool you just dont get it.
Agreed.

The iron lords have red boots cause they stomp aliens
consider: countering the green helmet problem of angels of repentance by swapping out heads for hoods
Oooooo, using the dark angel hoods or the hooded melon from the death watch kit would look SO good. Might have to try that >:)
Or have it be a stripe or marking of the required color without looking like you borrowed a helmet from a Salamander because yours is in the shop getting fixed.
The floating bone told me to come here, I’m happy he did.
Never trust a person who doesn’t like space marines
"Why is is knee Freeza?"
Because he's 7th Company.

I knew I was gonna be salty about this video. I did not know I was gonna be salty less than three minutes in.

6:50 the sons of jaghatai: *angry noises in purple*
4:42 Ah yes, g r ë æ n .

It is to be noted tho that they don't have many of em, don't think they even have double digits of em
I do love the chatty vids. In fact i would adore a Mishcast style podcast one day
Loved the video! I hope more people can see your content!
My new fav quote "MASH IT IN!"
lemon and lime! its 7up!
Space marine color schemes just look like ww1 fighter plane schemes
Sons of the Phoenix mentioned let's GOOOOOOOO

You’re quickly becoming one of my fav hobby channel, keep doing you!
2:22 The reason is that's the color order laid out by the codex astartes. I can also tell you the 6th is orange, the 7th is purple, the 8th is grey, and the 9th is blue.
no mention of the Mentors? Lego Octan ass color scheme (that's a compliment)
I don't know if they qualify as goofy but you're absolutely right. (Love the mentors)
I believe an honorable mention of the Emperor's Pointy Sticks is appropriate. They appeared in a web comic on Warhammer Community so they could be considered canon...right?
GOOBERS?!?!
I swear if every time you see that terrible forest green you just replace it with a muted military green they'll all look great.
Mr. Bones 40K told me about you.
Great channel!
I feel like someone at GW is really into rally racing. Some of these schemes would be awesome on a rally car.
I think these paints are metaphorical, they are predominantly these two colors not always split right down the middle
My friend glad this topic has been done. Some schemes I like are from the Rouge Trader days like the classic Salamanders
The iron lords were ummm inspired by one of cannibal corpse’s most popular songs
I was scrolling, and then i saw that thumbnail and scrolled back just to have that little guy stare into my soul 10/10 thumbnail.
Heavenly intro, brother
I could say it made me smile
Nice video too, hope your channel grows
your character is such a baddie tho
Another chapter I think would have fit well into the list are the "Storm Callers". Red pants, red powerpack, red pauldron trim, green aquila/imperialis, Black armor. Their color scheme is odd, but kind of charming in a way.
Not gonna lie, I'm kind of down with the Storm Lords.
I definitely wanna paint them, gonna be doing a white scars successor video featuring them
2:25 the reason for these colors is actually because those are the codex compliant colors for those companies. Fun fact!
Grear video. I'm newer to the hobby, so I hadn't heard of most of these. Always looking out for your next video. C'ya.
the iron lords got that ww1 french red pantaloons
Yo man I love the new intro and the paint scheme
Specifically the iron lords, I’m a big iron hands simp
We did it. We found Canon CWC marines. MishMash you have to paint Solar Hawks. Please. Chris chan Marines. Please.
They'd turn into Emperor's Children as soon as the paint dried.
It's troo, I do luv dem Spays Maureens... LUV KRUMPIN EM!
You should check out the yellow jackets, masters of protelus, celebrants and angels penitent
those are 7up flavor space marines. Lemon lime, with the red dot.
shoutout the heavenly smile from the intro
Gotta admit, I love the chapters with fun helmet colours! why not throw some colours in, have some fun!
I can see me doing a update group of the angels of repentance but rather the green I would us another color
Solar Hawks icon is meant to show a Hawk that's hooded.....it's a technique used when hunting with hawks.
The entire chapter makes extensive use of em, not just a company within the chapter is what I am referring to lel
@@MishMashPainting i mean fair, but it is important to note that the whisperclaws also love their air vehicles, and they use dreadnoughts to train scouts which is neat
Funny how the honorable mentions are the goofiest while many that you chose aren’t that bad
Silly goober Space Marines give me life.
Hey my custom marines have red boots like the iron lords. Shits just fancy bro 😂
So, while I realise the Solar Hawks logo is meant to look like a hawk with a falcon hood/cap, Am I the only one who saw that and saw "Hawk with emo hair"?
Surprised mantis warriors arent on this list. Super cool chapter but their paint scheme makes me giggle every time
bones said to come watch this, so i did
salamander,s g1 color scheme
Thanks for the video
What CREATURES..
Im tempted to do a Frieza marine now
I like the storm lords
But off topic because of the fact that they are traitors, but I love gladiator cadre 331 of the world eaters, they kept their og paint scheme from before the fall to chaos, which is white… so they still turn bloody red anyways… but I enjoy painting them… it took a lot of time to learn to paint in white for minis though… I use metallic medium instead of white or grey paint
okay Night Lords . silver or gold trim ?
silver, gold for special units
Theoretically there are a million space marines out there. One-thousand chapters that are supposed to be composed of one-thousand marines. But since we know the latter isn't true it's fair to assume the former is not also.
Meant to say a million space marines rather than chapters lol, surprised more people didn't catch that ons
You like angels of repentance but have you heard about emperors spears? If not let me tell you nothing about them because the only fan I know of them we booli for being a 40k fan who only reads the books like a nerd.
Mr. Bones covered them before
Emperors new groove ahh marines
I adore your character, its really cute. Its a bat right?
The dark sons scheme made me puke in my mouth a little. Ew
Look I love ya my dude but there's definitely weird characters
What happens whan a chapter unkowningly uses the exact paint scheme of a traitor legion before they met their primarch? Like the war hounds or the dusk raiders?
There are 1000 chapters, not a million
surprised nobody caught this earlier, meant roughly a million space marines
Now do CSM 😜
What about the rainbow warriors?
hi, mr bones sends me
Do you think you will ever critique the color schemes of other factions?
oh absolutely, chaos marines next
You should critique fan made color schemes.I made one that I want you to look at.
6:29
Ok, I know it's gauntlet grasping a halo. I know that.
But...
Maybe this is just me, ruined by the Internet.
It also looks like it's fisting a sphincter...
💪🔥👏♥️
Are you a furry?
Furry?
No.
