This principle applies pretty well to art as a whole actually. What I like to do (be it for colors or any other part of the drawing) is ease myself into it slowly by practicing 1 aspect I'm not familiar with alongside what I'm used to.

I recently painted a mini with a vibrant, yellow & orange outfit, when I primarily paint green (for my Salamanders) or red. I liked what I got, a nice colorful look for a character meant to have a bright and vibrant personality.

I think the difficulty is figuring out how the colour works in context with the rest of yhe pallet

I'd really love to try to spruce up my Orkskin since it's... just dark green primer. However, 118 Ork bodies. What do? How avoid burning out on the same color for something that's supposed to be uniform? (which... is honestly part of what I love about Orks, the fact that the color of every /other/ part of the model doesn't matter as long as it's "fitting enough" and/or funny)

Yeah all my broadside suits for my Tau are the old full metal cast models from like 2008 because my local game store were selling them pre built for like $32 each

I've used sprue to make some cool weapons for orks and chaos. It can add a nice block of metal to house electrical stuff sort of look. Take a pin and poke holes to make it more of a vent.

I have no hesitation painting a metal miniature. I can check that sucker across the wall and if it chips I can just repaint it. While bespoke soft plastic/resin miniature that cost $100 and break at the wrong glance, I'm hesitant to put chemicals on to fix a mistake.

My first paintjob was a unit of grentchin/grots I will keep that unit forever

I remember learning this the hard way. I wanted to knock out a chunk of my unpainted minis in one go so I did a batch of 40. Once I got done with ten the rest became a slog as I realised I wanted to change up how I painted my color scheme but was stuck with my original base coats

Usually, I clip down the edges of my sprues to form a “T” shaped support for painting. Glue the flat-top-part of the “T” (Somtimes “7” shaped, if I clipped a corner), then press it against beneath the base.
