You won't believe how much this video saved my life. I searched for something like this for months until I found this app and then came across your video. I highly suggest you change the title of this video to 'Android to NAS Backup' or something similar so it can be found easily.
After filling up my Google Photos storage, I went in search of a better solution than relying on the cloud, this video was extremely helpful and I have a perfect sync to my trunas smb share, its so good i even bought the pro version, thank you so much 😊
I've been on youtube for 15 years. I think this might actually be the first video of its kind that actually worked on the first try. Astonishing. Tip: if you're connecting to a USB drive plugged into your router, the SMB login is just your router config login and pw. Also, there's some weird bug that prevents the phone from sleeping while the app is running but I don't really care.
There's a 'prevent sleeping' setting in the app, but why would you want it to sleep while it's doing its work? For a long job like this, more than just photos, say, it makes sense to plug your phone in to a power source. And you're assuming that SMBSync2 can continue running on a sleeping phone, not just pause waiting to resume; a waste of time. In any case, I'd think that being able to check periodically that the process is active would be a useful feature. Saves wasting time by having to re-configure and start all over again, imho.
This is what I call useful knowledge, not this junk videos online that show you cookie cut and paste tutorials that a 5 year old can figure out, you would think that smartphone companies would have these type of features built in the phone already...it only makes sense...my Samsung files app allows you to add a network location but the backup features only allows backups to the cloud and sdcard...

Nice video. Have you made this work while on an external wifi or mobile network? Did you have to open port on the router and do NAT? Which protocol and port does it use for the sync? TY.
Love this video and it's exactly what I was looking for! I just went to download this and it says SMBSync2 isn't available because it was made for an older version of Android. Does anyone know if it receives regular updates and if it will be supported through future updates?
