Unfortunately when I tried to open a movie file from the phone, the program started to copy it to the phone instead of just open it. Finally I realized that VLC can also access the shared folder and do not try to copy the files, just play it.

You don't need another application for this. This feature is already implemented into My files app. Also trusting a 3rd party app to access your files isn't safe at all. Your welcome.

I was doing the same thing as you shown in the video and it was working well but from the last 2-3 days I am getting some issue while transferring the files from shared folder to my phone.. Everytime when I am moving the items from shared folder to android phone getting this error msg "Can't Move".. Go to Control Panel > Network and sharing center > Change advanced sharing settings > Enable Turn Off password protect sharing option. it didn't work at first. than later I found that sharing will not work if the PC account is an Microsoft account method! so I changed the account to local account then worked! Windows sucks! thanks for the video

share the folder only to the windows user id for which your friends don't know password. You can control this at the share tab of your folder in computer.
Hi, by mi file manager app, I am able to see the server. But when I click and enter the id and password of my pc, still it don't show anything from shared folder. Shoul I change any settings in laptop? Or is this only possible when laptop is connected to router via ethernet cable?

i'm becoming insane to accomplish shares. my android devices (both phone and tablet) correctly see the Desktop PC containing the shares. But when I try connecting to it, I get "could not connect to device with user .." I've tried using my Desktop PC credentials, no dice. Also tried removing password protected shares altogether and connecting as anonymous, no dice again. I'm on the verge of activating SMB1 component on the W10 desktop, but i'm not sure it will change anything. If there's some other way, pls advice.

@@kaushalprkh You could try place your router somewhere between your computer and TV? It's working well for me, I have my router on the 1st floor of a 3 floor house so it's right in the centre. My PC is downstairs and I can stream to my downstairs TV and on the top floor in the bedroom.

Not working bdw. I'm using my phone as hotspot device and connecting with PC on wifi and using the same phone to access shared folder. Is this the problem? Edit: working after turning on windows features SMB. And also I'm able to access every partition from my PC HDD instead of just the shared folder 🗿😐 (maybe because I logged in as the admin and not everyone or client) Also using Mixplorer. Doesn't reliably work. Windows 11 and Android 14 file transfer by USB cable works at least once and then you need to restart Windows 11 for subsequent reconnections.

Friend, Depends on your wifi router, Some routers allow you to share printer (in that case the router will have print server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page) Some routers allow you to use it for network storage, like the one that you try (in that case the router will have File server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page)) Some may allow you to access via ftp or sftp port. We have an old usb stick plugged into our router. I can access it from the Nvidia Shield after mounting. However on my phone it can't access the drive, the ip address is definitely correct. We are using the guest option. On the iPad it can see the usb1 folder but can't read the contents. Think the drive is formatted as FAT32, should I format as NTFS? Appreciate any advice. I'm considering running a small home nas from the Shield and just want to know that i can definitely access it from phone and tablets. Thanks in advance :)

Think I might be using the wrong username and password, I only know the "admin" and the password. We are changing service provider and apparently the new router won't allow memory stick to connect as nas. So I'd like to use a drive connected to the Nvidia Shield as a nas. Doesn't mount the folder. Dislike and move on. Edit: Bit of an overreaction. This was in the middle of the hours I spent trying to find a way to mount drives on an old "for fun" phone with no storage.
Open Settings. Click on Accounts. Click on Sign-in options. Under the "Manage how you sign in to your device" section, select the Password option. Click the Change button
That's the problem.. Android has never included any kind of browser with simple LAN support. They'll let you connect everything to a cloud network... but still have no native apps to simply connect to and use/browse/view/share on a local area network. They want your data. They want you connected and able to see what you do. Seriously. But yeah, the Files app (formerly My Files) doesn't support this. I use ES Explorer.. it has everything. EVERYTHING. But use whatever you want, that's not my point. A little humor, here, but you're a boomer and thought your "My Files" app was the same app as the one in the video lol.
Friend - In some phones the default file managers comes with these features. Pls check. Even if you don't trust the file manager that i have suggested, search in play store for network file manager. @@brainerstech I've never used Cx File Explorer, but "Fx File Explorer" also allows network file sharing only in premium mode. Since it should be a default free service, I'd rather not to use any third-party file manager and wait for Google to release a solution for that.

You can control this at the share tab of your folder in computer.

Hi, by mi file manager app, I am able to see the server. But when I click and enter the id and password of my pc, still it don't show anything from shared folder. Shoul I change any settings in laptop? Or is this only possible when laptop is connected to router via ethernet cable?

i'm becoming insane to accomplish shares.
my android devices (both phone and tablet) correctly see the Desktop PC containing the shares.
But when I try connecting to it, I get "could not connect to device with user .."
I've tried using my Desktop PC credentials, no dice.
Also tried removing password protected shares altogether and connecting as anonymous, no dice again.
I'm on the verge of activating SMB1 component on the W10 desktop, but i'm not sure it will change anything.
If there's some other way, pls advice.
In mobile, Pls try removing the PC and reconnect.
In PC, in share tab ensuse the id that you use have access.

right click on the particular folder - properties - sharing - advanced sharing.
can you do it in a opposite way. like share android device's folder over LAN ?

You will see a web link..Open that link in your computer browser.

@@kaushalprkh You could try place your router somewhere between your computer and TV? It's working well for me, I have my router on the 1st floor of a 3 floor house so it's right in the centre. My PC is downstairs and I can stream to my downstairs TV and on the top floor in the bedroom.

Edit: working after turning on windows features SMB. And also I'm able to access every partition from my PC HDD instead of just the shared folder 🗿😐 (maybe because I logged in as the admin and not everyone or client)

i have already done the connection between my mi phone and my laptop. i play a movie saved at my laptop, with mi file manager at my phone. after tap at my phone for playing the movie, phone shows 'copy.......', after finish copying, movie starts playing. i notice that my phone memory increase 1.1 G, which is the sizes of the movie. how to delete the file (movie 1.1 g) from my phone ?

not required, it works based on LAN or WIFI. As long as same network (connected to same router) it should work.

Doesn't reliably work. Windows 11 and Android 14 file transfer by USB cable works at least once and then you need to restart Windows 11 for subsequent reconnections.

Friend, Depends on your wifi router,
Some routers allow you to share printer (in that case the router will have print server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page)
Some routers allow you to use it for network storage, like the one that you try (in that case the router will have File server program running on your router, you may need to enable it in router admin page))
Some may allow you to access via ftp or sftp port.
In some routers USB port is just used to update the firmware, nothing more.
So please check router manual and accordingly try.

We have an old usb stick plugged into our router. I can access it from the Nvidia Shield after mounting. However on my phone it can't access the drive, the ip address is definitely correct. We are using the guest option. On the iPad it can see the usb1 folder but can't read the contents. Think the drive is formatted as FAT32, should I format as NTFS? Appreciate any advice. I'm considering running a small home nas from the Shield and just want to know that i can definitely access it from phone and tablets. Thanks in advance :)

Think I might be using the wrong username and password, I only know the "admin" and the password. We are changing service provider and apparently the new router won't allow memory stick to connect as nas. So I'd like to use a drive connected to the Nvidia Shield as a nas. That's the problem.. Android has never included any kind of browser with simple LAN support. They'll let you connect everything to a cloud network... but still have no native apps to simply connect to and use/browse/view/share on a local area network. They want your data. They want you connected and able to see what you do. Seriously.
But yeah, the Files app (formerly My Files) doesn't support this. I use ES Explorer.. it has everything. EVERYTHING. But use whatever you want, that's not my point. A little humor, here, but you're a boomer and thought your "My Files" app was the same app as the one in the video lol.

Even if you don't trust the file manager that i have suggested, search in play store for network file manager. Then choose the one that you trust. Never install these out of play store.

@@brainerstech I've never used Cx File Explorer, but "Fx File Explorer" also allows network file sharing only in premium mode. Since it should be a default free service, I'd rather not to use any third-party file manager and wait for Google to release a solution for that.
