Couple things I'll share w/you - You mentioned Elvis and Jackie's friendship. What is completely unknown by many is Elvis & Sam were friends also, although not to the extent of Elvis and Jackie. One of my friends parents were close with Sam and he had some fascinating insights about Elvis & Sam Cooke spending time on the phone together. And Sam himself spoke of having mad respect for Elvis as an artist. Unfortunately these things were never documented well enough for general public to know.
But yeah both of these men were friends of Elvis, and Elvis equally had mad respect for each of them as well.
Now I'll share cool little extra about this video.
Always been one of my favorite throwback videos from that era to watch. This whole scene was a surprise to Sam. Jackie wasn't even supposed to appear with Sam for this live broadcast. The whole thing was a surprise setup.
That's why if we go back and look at Sam's reaction when Jackie slid onto the stage, he's like - "Whaaat?"
Everyone in the studio knew Jackie was going to do that except for Sam himself.
That's what makes this performance that much more special is they didn't even rehearse it this way together, yet it's pure Magic watching these two awesome great together.
PS - extra bonus info... Elvis' personal friend George Klein is the one that orchestrated this whole surprise of Jackie joining Sam for this performance.
Always enjoy your excitement on your reactions. just as I have excitement myself re-watching stuff like this

This is such a while later after you reacted to this "Rare Video Clip". So refreshing to see someone young responding and I can tell your excited to see this. I loved experiencing this same clip years ago. I wish there was some background info on this, but after listening & collecting both of these artists recordings for so many years, you need to know that this is a Sam Cooke record and Sam is dancing & lip-syncing to it. The fun part is Jackie Wilson jumping in & and dancing lip-syncing along too. I would've loved to have been a fly on the wall to see if they both talked about doing this. Although it's obvious this was done on the spot and someone was on-hand to capture it. Also just wishing the condition was a little bit better. Once again like l said I'm so glad you experienced this. Rock on Brother!

Sam Cooke, Al Green, Jackie Wilson were huge Elvis Presley fans. Elvis & Jackie were the tight - very close bond between the two. They were a huge influence on each other and practically created what ROCK and SOUL was supposed to look like onstage. They created the ROCK STAR LOOK and VIBE.

Sam and Jackie were both lip syncing to Sam's recording of Cha Cha Cha. This was done for an afternoon dance show on local TV in Memphis. It was not a surprise to Sam. They were both in on it.

Elvis's dance to "return to sender" that was his tribute to Jackie Wilson. Michael Jackson did a tribute to Jackie Wilson. One of his main inspirations.

A great video, Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson are both brilliant, and also Elvis. All three are Legends! Definitely check out Jackie, Lonely Teardrops, and Reet Petite.

Sadly, Jackie had a massive stroke and basically went into a coma, I believe in 1975, and Elvis did help with the hospital bills until Elvis passed away in 1977. I believe Frank Sinatra may have assisted after that. Tragically, Jackie lived in that condition until the mid-80s.

The audio is all Sam Cooke, both artists were lip-synching.
To ensure the best quality for broadcast, networks sometimes required artists to lip-sync on the variety shows.

You reactions are so exciting!! You should definitely get a list of entertainers from your grandparents to check out. '50s -'60s music, before autotune and gimmicks, was amazing. Pure talent! You should Google Jackie Wilson's bio. He had quite a life. A couple requests: (1) Jackie Wilson performing Higher And Higher (3:12) and (2) Jackie Wilson "Alone At Last" on The Ed Sullivan Show (2:39).

Jackie doesn't sound like Sam, they're lip singing to SAM's record. Jackie's voice is NOT on this record.
It was impossible for Elvis to have paid jackie's expenses after Jackie's death as Elvis died BEFORE Jackie.

What happened to all the Jackie Wilson reactions you said you were going to do? Jackie was the best of the best, NO One could come close to that man's talent. You should have no problem finding his music, he had over 50 hit records on the Billboard Charts, including six #1 R&B hits.
