This advice however doesn’t apply to Germany, they go between the lanes. It does seem to create more space but, they ensure drivers are taught what to do in those situations. So they automatically pull over to the side of the road when there’s a traffic jam just in case they need to allow emergency vehicles through.

Had a similar thing running a Striker 1500 up the interstate code 3. We were doing 5 over and getting passed. One nice thing is that the train horns under the cab face out the side so my foot may have accidentally stepped on the button when a car window was in line. Accidentally of course 😂
Good driving, I've been on similar types of runs myself. At least you didn't have an idiot pull out in front of you at the last second. Luckily when it happened to me a deputy was behind me. The driver of the car got an ear full and a ticket. We had some great officers at times if they got on scene before us and an exit ramp was close by they would alert dispatch and tell us to go down the off ramp. Always try to keep good relationships with the LEOs they'll help you out when they can.
Watching all the cars passing on the right just made me shake my head.... I understand that the firetruck is probably going slower than those passing but still. And seeing that almost no vehicles moved over like they're required to do is just sad. I guess they don't care about someone else's life that might be in danger.
As a driver and officer, don't forget that electronic warning is also a megaphone. Sometimes it works better to get off the sirens and horns and announce to the drivers to just move left or right. They will obey you.
"Pinned Qs" may not even be recognized as a siren. The rising up and down sounds like a siren. Drivers have thought peaked Q was brake squeal. Powercall got it wrong. Should dwell on the LOW tone, not the high. Low tones travel farther and penetrate vehicles better.
In my State all emergency response vehicles have the right away. When their sirens r on. U yield the whole road to them. By pulling out of the way. Its big fines here and a arestable offense if u don't follow those laws. I hope your State legislatures pass the same laws in your State too. A second late can mean a loss of life. U guys shouldn't have to stress on the emergency calls you're responding to. Nice driving from the responding emergency driver.

people where i live have a major issue with parking on the inside shoulder when traffic stops, and the muddy median will suck in anything that falls off the pavements edge, we've had to scream at people to move off so we can get by (i should add, im not emergency services, but we are part of the response when it affects the highway)
Some of those passes had to be mere inches. Especially once that annoying cable guardrail started . I don't know why some states feel it needs tobe right on the edge of the pavement.

Knowing traffic is backing up behind the emergency vehicle, and knowing people are jockeying for position switching lanes and trying to pass each other, I wonder if the firetruck is more of a traffic hazard in this situation. If so, maybe Code 1 in the middle or right lane is appropriate until running up on traffic. I am not criticizing. Just thinking.

Ok, so in The Netherlands most of the times a fire truck goes about as fast as I am allowed to drive or just a little faster on the highway than I am allowed to (not sure what the maximum speed is on that stretch there) but even if they wouldn't be, I would stay behind it, I don't get why you want to might end up with the vehicle behind you causing you all kinds of stress while trying to move out of the way for it...I'd rather end up in a traffic jam with just traffic in front of me having to pay attention to everyone approaching behind me instead of seeing blinking lights, it's...much less stressfull.
This may be a dumb suggestion, but why don't the police shutdown the opposite lanes so the firetrucks and ambulances can get there faster. They can use those lanes until they have to cross back over closer to the accident.

It's not illegal to pass them when responding. It's illegal to not yield and to pass them while they're on scene without giving them at least a lance of clearance.

Too bad you need to have the siren on due to state law ... same law also for nighttime response, empty backroads in the middle of nowhere? In that aspect I'm kind of happy that we can switch off the siren on our own responsibility; Quite often light traffic allows us to make only minimum use of the siren, if at all. And as long as we're slower than the posted speed limit and flow of traffic I will usually move over to the middle lane (as long as I can proceed there without slowing down due to vehicles ahead) to let faster traffic pass me

In my state, I believe it is a misdemeanor to pass and emergency vehicle while sounding siren and displaying warning light. But then most asshole drivers ignore most laws anyway!

First of all EAERY driver that past, didn’t move over or hindered an emergency vehicle will need to retake a driver license course to get their license back. LOL Law enforcement can easily get the license plates of every vehicle from the dash cam.
