But the former sEaL delta force ranger coast guard dude who works at the gun shop told me 3 point slings are the best. He used them exclusively when hunting Pablo Bin Laden Noriega all the way from Kazakhstan to Chile in the 80's.
Reminder again for people to cut it up before throwing it away. Trashed three point slings end up in the pacific, where whole 3-point slings end up killing thousands of dolphins by tangling their flippers up. ♥
I was HAPPY when someone gave me a 3 point sling; I took it apart and used the hardware and webbing to fix my favourite pack. There's no need to throw out 3 points; you just need to find another use for them.
If the Vikings were right and weapons really have their own souls I'd feel kind of bad for slings. They went from being the original bullet launching device to being relegated to and accessory to their replacement.
The 3 point sling does have a purpose! If I had my sights on that officer in Munich, I'd never be able to get my breathing under control for a good shot from laughing so hard
Three-point slings are excellent, when you actually have to carry the thing and do work all day, rather than just running and gunning against the timer.
The opening of the vid is hilarious! I've been using a 3-pt sling on my SBR for years while hunting. I've never had an issue getting tangled up. It holds the rifle stable across my chest, and out of the way while I'm hiking with a climbing stand on my back. If you don't slip the one lop over, it's a standard 2-pt sling.
I have to leave a dissenting opinion: I've had a mostly excellent experience with the Finnish Defence Force 3-point sling. Sure, you COULD get all tangled in that, but that usually means that either the person is inexperienced in using the sling (in which stage it happens continuously, I admit) or is carrying other things with slings etc, like a backpack accidentally on top of the gun sling. But otherwise I found it extremely useful during my conscript service. You can ask the guys at Varusteleka for their opinions on that sling :D
It is an opinion formed from previous experiences with them. If your experiences don't align, that's fine, don't have to be passive-aggressive about it.
the 3 pint was the slings of choice for the marine infantry when I was in, you had the few high speed low drag guys with the one points. The only use we had for 2 point slings was drill and bracing at the rifle range.
Great video! I was issued a 2 point cheapie in the Army. Now that I'm out I tried using a high speed 2 point adjustable. I got the bulky one with qd points that turns into a single point if needed. It hasn't left my gun safe since the first time i used it. The video with the guy fumbling around with the 3 point was hilarious. Followup video was great too. Ian's demonstration had me thinking how the three point would have got all jacked on my FLC or TAP. Thank you
One thing nobody talks about the 3-point is the weight distribution capability. Try marching 5 miles with 3.5~5 kg rifle with 1-point or 2-point. Your shoulder will kill you. Most of the time the soldier will be carrying not firing his/her weapon.
Huh? I bought mine 3point for less than $5 on sale No tactical blue&black container as a storage of this magnificent piece of rabbit snare included sadly nor the military grade 2 piece cutting device with mandatory picatinny rail codenamed s.c.i.s.s.o.r.s :-(
Now..... I will preface what I'm about to say with this. I have since replaced almost all of my slings with quick adjust 2 point slings, save for my M1Garand and M1A and my scout rifle "which wears a ching sling". I deployed 3 times to Iraq and for all 3 years spent over there I had the same SpecOps 3 point sling and never had an issue with it being difficult or snagging on any of my gear in or out of the truck or my Bradley, I will add that I had to modify it slightly because I am left handed, but never an issue otherwise. It even had a quick disconnect that would drop the rifle free with one clasp. Having said that the quick adjust 2 point offers so much more in versatility that it's the only real answer. But as far as the issues you mention about the 3 point sling. I didn't persoanly see it in 3 years of combat
I saw that video and assumed the guy was an idiot, because myself and several of the people i deployed with loved our 3 points and i never saw that kind is problem.
it's about training and usage, 3 points are great for carry, marching and parades but putting them on quickly in full gear isn't ideal. I always put my helmet on after the slung weapon for that reason.
Karl, I use that same Viking sling. Works great. It makes a perfect sling for an LMG as well since it extends nice and long but also zips the gun up tight against you when you're humping it along. One thing I want to say, for the transition to the back what I do is simply grab your buttstock at your shoulder, yank it straight out forward away from you and then down to your hip, and the muzzle will get automatically pulled up your back. Very quick, VERY smooth. Try it! Easier than reaching back over your shoulder, especially with lots of kit on.
Our Drill Sergeant in basic had us make our own 3 point slings from a M16 sling, 550 cord, electrical tape, and an Alice rucksack strap. They were fantastic. even with an IBA, LBV-88, and ACH, never really got tangled. The only downside was the time I was being fireman carried and the rifle swung around my back and butt stroked me in the Zygomatic Bone.
Oh that video of that operator with his 3 point sling, reminds me how I handled mine the first time in the Dutch army. I do prefer a 3 point to a 2 point however for long marches: the gun is closer to your body and slams around less so i'ts better for movement in my opinion.
exactly. it takes quite a lot of time to master. its not simple. nor is attaching the sling to the weapon. but get it right and stick with it, it shows its benefits in my opinion. but its not ideal for all shooting situations.
As a former Navy SEAL NASA CIA space shuttle door gunner, I find that an omni-point sling works the best. It also doubles as camo netting so that you can stick space debris in it for ultimate tactical camouflage. Because of budget cuts, we just draped crab nets over ourselves. Best sling ever.
So funny listening to your 3-point sling advice. I heartily agree. Was issued one for Riverine use and gave it back. Opted for a single point. Riding in a boat semi-standing is where that single point sling shines. Gives you both hands to hold on and manipulate radios, and other equipment.
Thank you for this video so much! I ironically have been shopping for a sling this week and haven't found a video on RUclips showing the mobility aspects as well as you have presented. This has made my decision on purchasing a sling for my AR a whole lot easier. Thanks again!
Great video. Wish I'd seen this years ago before learning it the hard way. I still have a few 3 point slings in a box. Haven't used any of them in years, but when I was a teenager they were cool and tactical so I bought several. After trying to actually use them in matches, they all got taken off. I couldn't sell them to someone knowing how bad they are so they just sit in that box. I do like the single point slings as long as they have a quick detach, but yeah they aren't great for stages with a lot of running around, unless you fancy taking an rifle to the balls on a regular basis. Overall though, I generally just stick with the old classic military style single adjustable 2 point.
I was in a foreign army a long time ago and we weren't allowed to use our slings, which stayed rolled up in our webbing...........had to have them, but could only spend 5 minutes threading the flipping thing onto our Augs then actually use it when about to carry a stretcher, or a Gerry can in each hand.Karl, watching you get all tactical and multi -purpose with that 2-point fixed sling was an eye-opener. I honestly thought a plain-Jane sling was just for administrative carry. But no, Jane's got some sling moves worth knowing. Entertaining and informative video, thanks very much.
7:24 That' sure was a horrible event. I hope they got rid of that sling. Thought's and prayers to everyone who had to witness the sling debacle of 2016 in Munich.
I used a 3 point sling when I was in the british army. it was annoying at the start but after time it works well on the SA80. i used a 1 point sling but that was just too annoying and I subsiquently went back to using the 3 point
I agree. the 3 point with SA80 works well even with webbing etc. it takes time and the threat of shouting to get it right but it works I think. being able to slacken it quickly is great as is being able to quickly tighten it before reaching over etc to stop the weapon moving about. pretty cool really. I would imagine there is a weight limit for the 3 point. so no good for LMGs etc. too heavy.
I Think the one Point sling should be shorter, In the military we use a about five inch long attatched to the tactical west, so the sholder stock goes under the arm.
I feel like the 3 point didn't deserve that. I used 3 different 3 point slings when I was in the Marines and never experienced any problems with them at all. From patrols to mout training it always worked well for myself and everyone I served with.
I blindly bought a 3-point sling. After giving up figuring out how the hell it could work with a MOLLE vest with pouches and a backpack, I asked the internet... and came up with this video. Excellent advice. In two days, Amazon is bringing me a 2-point. LOL!
I recently got a 3 point sling for my SA80 for airsoft, I have to say it was the worst sling, not only is it at times confusing to put on in the heat of a game where you have to think fast, but it SNAGS on everything and gets caught on your tactical vest almost every time, it even knocked my radio out of it's pouch. Luckily my one could be changed back to a two point sling which is what I will use from now on only! Simple kit is essential for any kind of tactical situation. The simpler the more reliable and the faster you can respond to your opponent
My friend got himself a 3 point recently, and I'm wondering where I can gift him one of those blue and black plastic upgrade kits. Any good place to get for cheap? Thanks. (Okay, maybe not. Helpful vid anyways)
hardware store, I asked some guy where the "Good Stuff" was kept and he took me in the back room. I got a real slick spec ops upgrade kit for my tactical recycling platform. It features a locking device so the platform is held in a secure state at all times and it included an ergonomics upgrade where by attaching the new wheels I can handle the platform better and more efficiently on my weekly operations.
During my conscription in finland, we had simple leather slings, mainly 2 point and that was where the doctrine went, but I have to say the MP where allowed to have it as a single point sling simply attaching one end of the loop to the other end or directly to strap. This was a much more convenient way to have the rifle in long time carry when standing guard or patrolling. I remember the joy when it was permitted to move to the 1 point style. Of course as a conscript there were never any real dynamic situations where you need that gun off your body right now
Interesting you used footage with an AUG when illustrating the shortcomings of a 3-point sling, as the Giles Sling (which helped kick 3-point slings popularity into the 90s) was originally designed around the AUG. For me, front hang retention (1-pt & 3-pt) slings work more tolerably with SBR / Bullpup length guns, but at this point I've converted my Giles Slings to 2-pts, relegated my single pts to stocked pistols, and straight up 2-pts for everything else. So, good synopsis and I agree with your conclusions.
Put on all your gear. Especially a helmet. Quickly adjustable is very nice. It's all about what works for you. I ended up with a single point, rat-tail from the drag handle then over the shoulder with a quick release, and a second quick release with a quick slide off of my lower left ammo pouch. Worked for me. Quick pointing with the rat-tail, no rope burns on my neck, stayed in place and out of the dirt with the second clip, didn't go flying when I took a tumble, easy detach, no spaghetti ball nightmare, and no getting hung up on my own gear. Just 2 clips on the weapon and no rattle. But then I always was a geardio.
Used a 3-point during my 9-month mandatory service in the FDF military police. I used to think I loved 2-points but the 3-point is really quite excellent. You missed a few points, like using it as a 2-point WITH the clip attached (it will come undone with a nice sideways tug when raising the weapon to high ready) and as a literal gun backpack while skiing or doing manual labour. You can also quickly spin your gun, spooling the sling around your buttstock to tightly suspend it to your side (good for melee situations, or switch to sideam) All the random hate for these isn't unwarranted, but it's a bandwagon really. Try it yourselves.
I served in the Infantry for 8 years with two deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, I completely agree with this video. Great Video!. For all you key board heroes, listen to this guy, he is giving you sound advice.
To each his own. I actually prefer 3 point to 2 point as it gives a little space between you and the gun if you are in gear - quite different from typical competition I guess. Made myself simple one that I easily turn to 1 point if I need more maneuverability. It can also work practically like 2-point on back for climbing. It's about working the details so it works for you. That being said, Magpul's MS3 2/1 design is really nice and probably my favorite.
I had three poin sling and I really try to like it and use it two or three years. Finally I cut it to make two point sling of it and now it works great.
The one system I used while in the Army is a break point to point "Sling", namely Spec-ops Brand Wolf Hook. I found that when mounted to my body armor and M-16 rear stock point it worked great for me. I could move it behind me or leave it in front when I needed both hands. It also served to keep the rifle snug in my shoulder when shooting.
I feel better now - That German SWAT officer's experience with a three-point sling bears an amazing resemblance to mine. I thought I was just being extraordinarily klutzy.
what about taking a 2 piont sling with a QD attachment on the forward portion, and a QD receiver near the rear strap attachment point (but part of the sling itself). then if you want to swap to a single point, you just push the QD up front and clip it into the rear. you want to go from a 1 point to a 2 point? unclip the rear and reinsert into the forward QD.
In the corps my 3 point served me well. Kept the rifle on me well while doing everything. Never got tangled. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Gj man.
7:10 For that you have to know that our polcie force is in a very bad state when it comes to firearm training. They have 3-4 training days in the year and they fire around 150 shots per year. That is not even half of what you need if you want to have a private gun license because there you need at least 12-20 training days on the range to keep your license. And thats not all, in some states the police cant exercise for one year now, all the police ranges are shut down because of Asbestos in the plates. There were some policeman that got lungcancer and sucessfully sued the state. Berlin has no money so instead of rebuilding the ranges they just stopped training inner state. I dont have to tell you guys in this channel why this is a bad thing. What i think i have to explain is that our police alost never uses their firearms and when they do its always on the edge if it was ok to do so or sometimes it goes straight down the crazy road because they are obviously untrained. Example i can come up with from the top of my head : Last month a Policeman in Hale fired a shot at a fleeing Sprayer, the cop said that he ddidnt wanted to shoot at him, the gun fired itself when he tried to draw it. I guess i dont have to explain to you why a P99 isnt just firing at random. Or there was the case of a turkish vegetable trader which was fighting with his ex-wife over the custody of his daughter. She told the police she got a death thread and the police decided to arrest him with an assault. During this time the Nationsocialistic Underground Terrororgroup was killing eastern looking men and women and the man had a pistol in his glove department for self defene. The police knew this because the Ex wife told them and was prepared to react. When the man sat in his car he saw people with masks and drawn weapons running to his vehicle that started firing as soon as he sat down. He tried to drive away while returning fire and his car was shot 109 times. He didnt came far thogh because his car was stopped and he got arrested. Now first thing is that the police started firing without any reason, secondly they missed the driver behind the steering wheel 109 times and then third off everyone claimed they were being shot at There are more examples that can be brought down to bad training but i guess this will give you a good picture about the general state of affairs, so whe i see a regular op with the full turtle fumbling around with a machinepistol like that i get really afraid.
KieferDragoner The SEK has the same problem, my second example was from a planed SEK mission. An ex roomate and close friend of mine changed to the KriPo because he didnt wanted to take responsibility with the training and decision making they got. Other examples are the raid on Hanebuth, The forced entrance on the wrong home in Göttingen , the use of a helicopter to land on a bridge for a cool foto or while we are at helicopters there were 3 destroyed Helicopters , one SEK while training and 2 while the plice tried to survey football fans in regular season in foggy weather because they both crashed into each other while landing.
Mike Marion Regular cops arent trained with Assult guns, so they arent allowed to sue them. If its bigger then a MP-5 its not a regular B-pol policeman
Never fooled with a 3-point sling. Thank God. Convertible 1-2 point sling with HK a clips is my goto. I can quickly swap from one to the other, all the benefits based on situation. And btw, doing vehicle operations single points come in very handy. Otherwise, I prefer a two point.
Good video. I run a single point on my AK and ARAK and 2 point on my AR and SKS. Have to say I prefer the two point set up, especially when doing transition drills from rifle to pistol.
I like the two point quick adjust slings. Another thing I like to do is have my two point set up to where I can quickly set it to a single point in the event I need it. It's worked for me so far and I have yet to have it fail me. I mostly use it as a two point but I love having the option to go single. Just adds a little more flexibility and I haven't had any issues with snags and tangles like the three points.
After cutting my 3Point Sling, can I keep the QD-Swivel and the HK-Snap-Hook, or should I throw them away with the sling?? ;) Thank you so much for this video. I always thougth I was to stupid to handle a 3Point-Sling propperly. Now I changed all my rifle slings to quick-adjust-2point! Much better!!!!
I don't understand the prevalence of RUclips commenters harassing RUclipsrs about clearing their guns. If you were going out in the field, you would sling a loaded rifle.
I ran a three point overseas, my job put me in vehicles (Army, not contractor) a lot and I ran a SBR M-14. No, I wasn't super elite, just knew how to work the federal ordering catalogue. 3 point was the only option that worked in the confines because it put the weapon across the chest when in travel. So, there are times and places where they are the best option, but there is a reason there are different types of slings. I also had a type made by a guy who designed it in his garage for those types of situations, so it didn't have the type of layout a lot of 3 point have; Aussies were going to buy it but a certain sling manufacturer realized they were going to lose money and took legal action. I'm not even sure if what I had ended up being made.
What do you think of the magpul ms4 sling that is quick adjust and can go from 1 point to 2 point. I like magpul and in the market for a sling. I like the versatility of the concept but always afraid of jack of all trades is master of none
3 point slings are the best if you learn how to use them. Nothing beats long distance travel with one, or doing activities like riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, skiing etc.. Plus they do make quick detach ones ya know
I love my single point sling. I have a quick attach adapter and put it on every M4 I borrow. I'm a mechanic so I'm constantly setting the rifle down and picking it back up with me, as well as carrying things and crawling under vehicles. The two-point isn't a bad sling, but it gets stuck on my kit and helmet all the time, where I can just unclip the single point. However, yes, the single point does suck while running or carrying heavy things because it just makes the rifle stab your shins or calves while walking if you don't have a hand on it.
A 3-point sling came with my Zenith Z-43P and I had the same experience as that Munich officer. It's in the parts box and I don't think it'll ever get pulled out.
I use a loose 1-point on my work M4. If I'm running, I'm holding it by the pistol grip and handguard so getting slapped isn't an issue. I can slip it down along my weak side leg to get it out of the way for a pistol transition or other work. I can quickly disconnect it without pulling the sling over my head. And, most importantly for me, I can transition back and forth from strong or weak shoulder to suit my cover options. Can't do that with a 2-point without loosening or tightening it. Agree that 3-points suck. I was forced to use one in the military and they get caught on everything.
When I was in cadets we had this sling that was a 2 point sling with a clip on it, so when we were patrolling it was at a comfortable position, but then on contact drills you could instantly unclip a point of the sling which made it essentially loose on the gun end so you can use it but still firm on the body so the sling still held on tight. Essentially, a 2 point sling which turned into a 1 point sling but which always had 2 points of contact on the rifle.
Totally agree with your opinion on 3 point slings after being told by various people who've used them real world how useless they are and trying to use one myself a couple times. I can't even understand why it was created.
I only used 3 point slings when I was in the Army. Started using them in 2003 when a team member had one and I checked out his. Its easy to use once you get the adjusters correct.
i have to disagree with you here on the 1 and 3 point sling (mind it comes from my airsoft experience) -the 1 point is the one i can't stand, each time i used one, no matter how i adjusted it, the gun was in the way, always bumping into something or getting stuck somewhere. to the point i simply threw the thing away in the middle of a game. -now the 3 point, i simply love that thing, never had any problem with it, had to fumble with the adjustemnt a couple time until i found the sweet spot and it never hindered me, has no problem to put in on and remove it, even with body armor (and my gear is quite bulky). for the small extract you used to prove your point, i can poit the obvios by saying that his sling was just adjusted too tight, so it couldn't pass the helmet one put arounbd the arm
it's the difference between mostly patrolling and mostly active use that's the big one, I hate the 3pt in cqb and urban stuff in woodland where I'm mainly patrolling it isn't too bad.
I actually retain my weapon on my shoelaces and have it tactically drag behind me. It gives the illusion that I am more than one person, especially with my Tapco decked out SKS. If I need to use the weapon in an emergency (eg: someone tries to rob Bass Pro) all I need to do is a tactical backflip, catching the gun, then sitting down on the ground to fire. If I have to move, I just use the "SWAT scoot" or sometimes "Doggy scoot" to move myself about. I find that this is the best method of weapon retention.
I can not agree with InRangeTV's views on 3 point slings. I assume you have had bad experiences with badly adjusted sling, and not been properly educated on their use. I grew up using 2 point slings, but once I entered the armed forces I got issued the HK 3 point sling that was used on G3 and MP5. This sling was actually developed by Hærens Våpentekniske Korps in Norway during the trials for new infrantry rifle in 1965 and manufactured locally. HK issued a simple 2 point leather sling with their weapons at the time, quite similar to the one used on the Mauser K98k, but after a while HK issued such 3 point slings with their military contract weapons. As for versatility, the 3 point sling can do everything you show the adjustable 2 point sling can do. You can also rig it as a 1 point sling in need be, or even a Ching sling or hasty sling. You can use it to wear your weapon as a rucksack even. As for snagging on equipment, any sling can do that . A 3 point sling isn't any worse in that respect. But I do believe the old style 3 point slings are the best, because they use thick webbing that is rather stiff and wide metal sliders that glide really well. Alot of newer 3 point slings are made with wider and thinner webbing, which has a tendency to fold, preventing the slider to glide, and the sliders are made of plastic with narrow slots, which doesn't glide well if the webbing is jumbled up. On my tours in Afghanistan I got issued such a sling with the HK 416, but I strapped a MP5 sling on it instead. In my opinion the 3 point sling is superior to both 1 and 2 point slings. But that is provided proper training is given and the sling is manufactured with quality materials that does not bungle up. I've used the 3 point slings in the artic to desert environements and everything in between. One just have to know how to use them and all of the options.
I do like how easy it is to switch the gun between shoulders with a one point, but I hate how it bangs around and muzzles my feet when hanging, so I got convertibles (Magpul). As it turns out, I use them almost exclusively as adjustable two points.
But Karl! There is a way to effectively run a 3 point sling! Grab the strap that normally runs alongside the rifle and pull upwards, so that both straps are now together. While holding both straps, run your arm through the sling and presto! You now have a non-adjustable 2 point sling with extra material that is harder to adjust! Sounds dumb, but I have been issued a 3 point sling before. This is exactly how I used it.
I don't think it would change much with the magazine. I personally think my AK is more comfortable to carry on my back with a magazine in because it prevents any twisting
Airsoft player here. Been using 3bpoint slings for 20 years. No problem here... Needs practice but once u master it it can turn into a 1 pointish or 2 pointish sling easily. Wouldn't change it for nothing :)
The D3 sling by Haley Strategic is a single and double sling, with a single for doing stuff and double the rest of the time. It made sense to me when I saw it.
I had pretty extensive experience with a three point sling while I was in the Marines, they're not that bad once you get used to them. It wouldn't be my first choice but if it's what you get issued its better than nothing.
Im going to Arizona next week on vacation. Do you have some suggestions on places to go to where you at InRangeTV live? Like gun ranges or something else interesting. Me and my group of friends intended to go to Tombstone but i don't know if they have gun ranges there.
1:06 "you can wear these in different ways and, by the way, the rifle. ..**click clack** **cli-peww** .is clear" For the person to act as if it was planned is just a funny scene in my head.
How would you classify the M1907 style sling? An early form of (relatively) quick-adjust? It's what happened to be with the second (third? fiftieth?)-hand .22 rifle I inherited, so I took the time to learn how to use it... and it's a real pain! I keep meaning to replace it with something else, but I get to shoot so infrequently I never get around to it.
Single point probably works better with smaller guns like a P90. Trust me I got my info from Stargate SG-1 :D
Single points do work well with some things, the P90 would be an excellent example. ~Karl
CseRedHide I use a single point on my CZ Scorpion. With the stock folded and the 7" barrel I can tuck it tight up under my arm and it works great

Why the hell did you throw your 3point sling into your AK hard case!?!
I kid:) great video. I laughed pretty hard on the last segment.
Actually, I believe that's an official Mosin hard case he has there.

The opening of the vid is hilarious!

I'd say one points are more of use on shorter guns such as SMGs/PDWs, short barrel shotguns and ultra compact rifle(think SBRs).
However I prefer the two point. I tried setting up a three point once, got irritated with it and turned it into a two point.
Agreed. Came to say that exact thing.
Well the three point sling is actually better on SMGs you can also do hip shooting. Its used by the sas
I love the 3 point sling, what i prefer on the m16. Easiest most comfortable to carry and forget.
Used a 3 point sling for more than 10 years in a practical environment, does not suck as much when you are properly trained.
Congratulations.
Reinventing the sling with additional points of attachment is akin to reinventing the wheel with extra sides.
Balls are pretty awesome.
Might wanna rephrase that, or not. Whatever floats your boat.
If you give a wheel infinite sides it becomes a ball, which are pretty awesome. I don't know how I could rephrase that,
touché
William Prince Wheels have infinite sides. They already have all the extra sides
Thank you
Excelllent rundown on tactical slings, Karl. Glad someone with credibility finally covers the hateful three-point and its proper use (throw it away!)
I tried 2 point slings and 3 point slings when I was in the Bundeswehr. I prefer the 3 point version...
One thing nobody talks about the 3-point is the weight distribution capability.
Try marching 5 miles with 3.5~5 kg rifle with 1-point or 2-point. Your shoulder will kill you.
Most of the time the soldier will be carrying not firing his/her weapon.
[3 point slings] "...these things are not cheap."
VTAC sling is 70€ in Europe. Yup.
Huh? I bought mine 3point for less than $5 on sale
No tactical blue&black container as a storage of this magnificent piece of rabbit snare included sadly nor the military grade 2 piece cutting device with mandatory picatinny rail codenamed s.c.i.s.s.o.r.s :-(
I found this video after struggling to find one to help with my 3 point sling. It's now in the trash can too. Thank you good sir!
Oh that video of that operator with his 3 point sling, reminds me how I handled mine the first time in the Dutch army. I do prefer a 3 point to a 2 point however for long marches: the gun is closer to your body and slams around less so i'ts better for movement in my opinion.
exactly. it takes quite a lot of time to master. its not simple. nor is attaching the sling to the weapon. but get it right and stick with it, it shows its benefits in my opinion. but its not ideal for all shooting situations.
the difference between what works for marching order and fighting order best is HUGE and worth a video in its own right.
Karl is such an interesting person.
That's one way of putting it, I guess. :) ~Karl
From the shoulders down he's quite attractive.

Real opparaiders use dat swag 4-point sling
Bah! Real operators use the 10 point sling!
united with their gun for the rest of their life
+Patrick Lundström You can have all your squadmates and their various pets attached to the gun if you happen to need any of them
As a former Navy SEAL NASA CIA space shuttle door gunner, I find that an omni-point sling works the best.
It also doubles as camo netting so that you can stick space debris in it for ultimate tactical camouflage.
Because of budget cuts, we just draped crab nets over ourselves.
Best sling ever.
Best 3 point sling "How to" right there!!
I like the Magpul MS3/4. It's a great 2/1 point sling, and it's my fallback if I don't know what sling to put on a tactical rifle.
Overall though, I generally just stick with the old classic military style single adjustable 2 point.
great info. Karl, looking good, sir!
I would imagine there is a weight limit for the 3 point. so no good for LMGs etc. too heavy.
indeed. black and make sure you bring the digestives (hobnobs are also preferred)
I'm a big fan of 2 point sling's and any sling is one of the most important and underrated parts of a rifle, thanks for the video.
I Think the one Point sling should be shorter, In the military we use a about five inch long attatched to the tactical west, so the sholder stock goes under the arm.
Here ya go internet. This is my gift to you. Slav Dance Party! i.imgur.com/D1ogj1K.gifv

Great Job, Comrade o7!
You win the Internet today, sir
Thank you. Thank you, my good man

So, good synopsis and I agree with your conclusions.
smashed myself in the groin once running with a FAL on a 3 point. that sucked
You can also quickly spin your gun, spooling the sling around your buttstock to tightly suspend it to your side (good for melee situations, or switch to sideam)
All the random hate for these isn't unwarranted, but it's a bandwagon really. Try it yourselves.
Perhaps it's a training thing, but I've never had an issue with a three point sling.
bUt It'S sO cOmPleX
Gj man.
Used a spectergear 3 point sling in the army.
Worked for me. Think the key is wider straps that keep it from getting all tangled up.

For that you have to know that our polcie force is in a very bad state when it comes to firearm training.
Example i can come up with from the top of my head :
Last month a Policeman in Hale fired a shot at a fleeing Sprayer,
the cop said that he ddidnt wanted to shoot at him, the gun fired itself when he tried to draw it.
Now first thing is that the police started firing without any reason, secondly they missed the driver behind the steering wheel 109 times and then third off everyone claimed they were being shot at
There are more examples that can be brought down to bad training but i guess this will give you a good picture about the general state of affairs, so whe i see a regular op with the full turtle fumbling around with a machinepistol like that i get really afraid.
the officers from the clip, are highly trained special forces with a lot of firearm skills
KieferDragoner
The SEK has the same problem, my second example was from a planed SEK mission.
+KieferDragoner you sure they weren't just regular cops thrown into combat gear?
Mike Marion
Regular cops arent trained with Assult guns, so they arent allowed to sue them. If its bigger then a MP-5 its not a regular B-pol policeman
+Dwarf-Elvish Diplomacy well that are problems which every police could have or actually has
Never fooled with a 3-point sling.
Very good, simple, to the point video. Thank you!
After cutting my 3Point Sling, can I keep the QD-Swivel and the HK-Snap-Hook, or should I throw them away with the sling?? ;)
Thank you so much for this video.
A single point sling is much more effective when transitioning to/fighting from atypical stances (ex. laying on back)
I ran a three point overseas, my job put me in vehicles (Army, not contractor) a lot and I ran a SBR M-14.
I know it is a little pass due but the magpul ms4 is actually not to bad.
3 point slings are the best if you learn how to use them.
Nothing beats long distance travel with one, or doing activities like riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, skiing etc.. Plus they do make quick detach ones ya know
completely agree with your 3 point method.
Essentially, a 2 point sling which turned into a 1 point sling but which always had 2 points of contact on the rifle.
yeah its called a 3points slings x')
Love it Karl! great non bias info... ha ha. I'm pleased you call it like it is.
Totally agree with your opinion on 3 point slings after being told by various people who've used them real world how useless they are and trying to use one myself a couple times. I can't even understand why it was created.
You win RUclips today for that lesson on the three point sling!
I only used 3 point slings when I was in the Army. Started using them in 2003 when a team member had one and I checked out his. Its easy to use once you get the adjusters correct.
Try the Proctor 2 point adjustable length, you'll love it IMHO. Plus it's inexpensive and no tail flopping around if that bugs you.
i have to disagree with you here on the 1 and 3 point sling (mind it comes from my airsoft experience)
-the 1 point is the one i can't stand, each time i used one, no matter how i adjusted it, the gun was in the way, always bumping into something or getting stuck somewhere. to the point i simply threw the thing away in the middle of a game.
Masterchief uses a 0 point sling. Magnets baby!!!
Ah a man of culture I see
3:08 How well does that work when there's a magazine in the rifle?
I don't think it would change much with the magazine. I personally think my AK is more comfortable to carry on my back with a magazine in because it prevents any twisting
Why in the title didn’t you put “What’s the point?”
very awesome and helpful video. never heard of the vtec sling. guess I'll have to get me one for my next rig.
Airsoft player here. Been using 3bpoint slings for 20 years. No problem here... Needs practice but once u master it it can turn into a 1 pointish or 2 pointish sling easily. Wouldn't change it for nothing :)
Great video! I run a single point to two point adjustable, best of both worlds being able to run bot setups with one sling, to hell with 3 point!
The D3 sling by Haley Strategic is a single and double sling, with a single for doing stuff and double the rest of the time. It made sense to me when I saw it.
...i came to see how a 3point sling works best. thanks for this one...
1:06 "you can wear these in different ways and, by the way, the rifle. ..**click clack** **cli-peww** .is clear" For the person to act as if it was planned is just a funny scene in my head.
a video that goes straight to the
POINT
How would you classify the M1907 style sling? An early form of (relatively) quick-adjust? It's what happened to be with the second (third? fiftieth?)-hand .22 rifle I inherited, so I took the time to learn how to use it... and it's a real pain! I keep meaning to replace it with something else, but I get to shoot so infrequently I never get around to it.
Okay I am now buying a two point sling, and subscribing.
I love a 2 point adjustable sling
The 3 point sling works as an excellent, albeit bit overcomplicated 2 point sling. :-) Great vid.
