Bloke on the Range, went out shooting earlier today n brought out my dads mosin m91/30 and m1903a3, i've been shooting the mosin since i was 8 years old, now 21, and shooting the 1903a3 only as recently as a year ago and i've Never had a rim jam nor have ever heard of one before watching your show, Mr. Bloke. i got a rim jam on my m91/30 mosin and i did what u did for the enfield, pushing the rounds down real quick is all, n it worked for the mosin. idk if it was a fluke. i never use stripper clips. i jus have no clue if it was a fluke or if there's a design in the mosin m91/30 that helps resolve a rim jam like the enfield.
nice video and good explaining. I personally think that we should get rid of these shooting jackets. It´s called shooting sport, so why trying to elimanate the human factor? If you want to max out the accuracy potential of your rifle, you can also start benchrest-shooting. I am also member in the more traditional shooting association in Germany the DSB. I am rather successful there in lever gun competitions. I am always the only one in the top ranks, who doesn´t use a shooting jacket. Even if I get better scores with jacket, I refuse wearing one. They are unpractical for anything else, and if no one would use them, there would be fair competitions. The scores would go a bit down, but physical fitness on the other hand would become a bit more important. The not so traditional shooting assocciations in Germany like BDS, BDMP and DSU don´t allow them. We joke about them and call them Betonjacke (Betonhose for the throusers) - concrete-jacket.
I used to sniff at them until I tried then and I think they have their place, however I do find that they have no place in black powder shooting. Matchlock shooting with betonhosen/jacke is just silly (I have seen it though).
Question. At 2:28 you put a spacer under your glasses. Please expand on this. My glasses ride too low when in a shooting position. This looks like a simple and quick solution to my problem! 👍🇨🇦

In Europe the sport seems to be taken more seriously.
Great info . Are you also a hunter? I don't shoot competition just playing on the range and hunting. I don't use a scope I prefer Aperture sights. I do use a hasty sling. What is you think is the best sling for hunting? I have been looking at the Ching sling and several others including traditional leather 1903 or newer style? I also don't use a bipod. I like to shoot old school. I've also thought about buying one of the CG63 sporterized rifles in 6.5 or 308. What is your impression on those? Thanks

IlikePoland the hats are all about light control really. At the higher levels of shooting, shooters have to account for a lot of factors, one of which is how much light and the intensity that they're getting, by limiting their field of view forwards, they can have some handle over what they're getting.
I know this is off topic, BOTR, but can you point me at a good resource for doing a safety evaluation on a Webley MK VI? I am sure such a thing exists, but I've failed to find it. Just wanting to be able to get a shooter's grade Mk VI. I reload and am happy to use one that's been shaved for 45 ACP brass and moon clips. I also cast my own bullets, so making ammo appropriate to the pressure limitations won't be an issue.
There's not much to say really, obviously the stirrup latch and its spring need to be in good shape with no play when locked up. It's not unusual to have a bit of lateral play at the hinge even if the latch it tight. It's not a safety issue but obviously affects accuracy. This is easily solved with a thin ring shaped shim between the frame and barrel assembly at the hinge. Aside from those points there's little else to go wrong on a Webley.

Thanks for the insight. No free floating? What do You think about freefloating in a Boyds stock and Acraglass bedding it? Works for me as a student's driven hunts straight pull with 1-2 MOA; with my further elongated stock due to being close to 2m tall no interference with the face cycling the bolt. The center mount attached to the rear sight accommodation seems to heat string though.
Restocking in a custom rig and tuned is a different story. The point the Bloke makes is about free floating a standard military stock, something that was never intended and that has disastrous consequences on accuracy.
I have a kind of personal question. I am about to move to Southern Germany. I have tried to look for shooting cloubs but they seem to be odd with short ranges not really for rifle. Do you have any proposals...? I hate to have to give up shooting even if I just do it for recreation
Where exactly do you move to? A few ranges in southern Baden-Württemberg and the Bodensee region have 300m ranges. Otherwise ranges above 100m are rare. Many Germans that live near Switzerland are members if Swiss clubs and also shoot here (I live in Schaffhausen). Are you aware of German gun laws? They arent exactly friendly towards recreational shooting. I suggest participating in some German gun forums. Most people speak English there and most forums have English subsections.
MRCL8215 Thanks, I am moving to somewhere around Tuttlingen. Well I an Swedish so I would kind of expect someting similar to Sweden, possibly some more restrictions on full auto thst is actually allowed in Sweden. But Switzerland seems a lot more like Sweden.
Half an hour drive west of Tuttlingen lies Hüfingen, a town with a rather large range that caters to rifles, pistols and trap/skeet as far as i know. If you want to shoot in Switzerland, Thayngen is 40 minutes south of Tuttlingen. Real 300m range and, important if you have your own guns, a 24/7 manned customs office. Germany is very restrictive in guns. Basically you need to be part of a club, train regularly and there must be a competition provided for the gun you want. And the bureaucracy is mad.

Bloke, this feels like a textbook example of elective affinities. I am looking in the future to purchase a K31 and do target shooting with diopters like you do now. However I would like the option to do some medium range shooting (300 to 600m, say, going abroad) with support and a scope. How easy / difficult is to have both mounts set up, and swap diopters and a scope depending on the context? Is that realistic or it would imply messing up the zeroing each time? I live in the Nederlands and plan to do precisely that on shorter ranges with the 22LR I will buy for my first purchase. Does that make sense from a practical point of view?
I suppose I will find that out in due course ... maybe it is just a small price in order to have both options. A final (two) question(s): what diopters do you use? Would they be suitable also for my initial 22LR purchase?
Would it be at all possible for you to do a video on how to use a two point sling without a shooting jacket. I only ask because we use the Enfield No8 .22 target rifle in cadets. Obviously we don't have a hook on our uniform for us to use the sling as you have shown here so it would be useful to know how you can use them in "normal" clothes as it were.
About your eyes. Try contact lenses. The first and the third generations of siliconhydrogel lenses allow to wear them for more than a week without any cleaning or trouble. Its quite easy to learn the proper ways to use them and they are much much better than any optical glasses. Use hydrogen peroxide solutions once a week and you could use single pair of lenses for more than a year. Without any trouble. I use my contacts that way for more than a year. Single pair. They still good as new. There are contacts for astigmatism too. And three ways to compensate presbiopia. If you want to be always ready for something, use two pairs- one in solution, one on your eyes. You'll have to remove them only once per week. Much less bother than with glasses. And you can wear any protective glasses available.
I used then for a while but I found them dry for daily work on a screen. For shooting I found that they would wander off their optimal position on the eye when trying to focus. Perhaps things have progressed in 10 years.
The Chap. First, were they siliconhydrogel? I use biofinity toric. I had never experienced them drying, even while welding in hot room in the middle of the summer. And hot bath too. They are in use since 2008. Its the third generation. I suppose they are the best. And very nice to wear.
Bloke. It definitely looks like you used lenses with the larger base curve, than your eyeball is. You definitely need to choose contacts with some optometrist. Too small- they will injure your eyes, too large- they will move every blink. I personally prefer biofinity toric. Its the third generation. They are inherently wettable. No surface treatment, so they dont get any fractures and live much longer than any previous types, and no vetting agents inside. Cheap and durable. But you should know your base curve and try to get your contacts trough optical stores. I suppose, they could offer contacts with any base curve, you just need to ask them. The good thing- you could use contacts very cheapely- Its about 30 euro per year. Pretty much the same as astigmatic glasses for 5 years.
Went trough that for a few years, annoyed with lenses drying due to all the airconditioning. wearing glasses again, trying different lenses, etc What work pretty good for me now are night contacts that correct your cornea overnight. Shame they wont correct much more then cylinders of -1.5 though, but its just enough for my dominant eye :)
Glock17games Well, there are a lot of different brands. And a few materials. The material my lenses made of was developed around 2008. Its only drying if you are strongly dehidrated, but then you have some more troubles- arithmia, hursh headache, delusions. Try biofinity. And drink some water, not coffee. And not green tea- for me, it dries me by itself.
Lefties can use handle adapters. I know Bürgin and Wyss adapters are allowed but not sure if it has been widened to "any commercially available model" like the diopters have.

I am curious if any Swiss shooting competitions are like those common in the American 3-gun or 2-gun matches where you are obliged to run about, overcome physical obstacles, and engage multiple targets from different positions (and sometimes with different weapons) with par times ranging from one to three minutes?
Probably not given the restrictions on firearms. Also wouldn't seem to suit Switzerland's neutral nature to mimic a shootout with drug cartels or sand people.
Eustace Stritchers Standard competitions are single gun and static. Private organisations do run dynamic practical stuff but it's more of a niche thing.
BUSHCRAPPING ISSF shooter here. The zip thing has a couple of reasons. The most notable one I can think of is that jackets are required to demonstrate a certain amount of overlap, the front of the jacket must be able to overlap 70mm when applied around 70newtons of force, with a zip this is difficult to measure compared to buttons. I'll also add that nowadays most shooters will only have a fully done up jacket in standing, and in kneeling or prone may only have the top two or three buttons fastened, making buttons more favourable. Buttons are also easier to move if the shooter gains or loses weight.
It also gives tension across the back which helps prevent your left shoulder from being pulled out of the socket - lots of potential for rotator cuff damage, particularly with a heavy barrelled target rifle and a single point sling over a 60 shot course of fire without a good fitting, supportive jacket.

I can very much assure you that since the cocking ring and my cheekbone cannot occupy the same space-time, that if I do not move my head then I will punch myself in the face with the cocking ring. Which actually happened on Sunday since I was shooting a naked K31 rather than my usual one with 50mm butt extension, and I didn't move my head.

In the US we shoot Highpower rifle competition and the Shooting Jacket is very helpful in all 3 positions, Offhand, sitting and prone.

Formula 1 isn't really "practical" driving, but I'd still wager most F1 drivers are better than I am at driving.

Lefties can use handle adapters. I know Bürgin and Wyss adapters are allowed but not sure if it has been widened to "any commercially available model" like the diopters have.

Swiss rifle target shooting is almost all done at 300m. It's the standard competition distance.
That standard may have been set with the 1911. There is no 100 or 200 meter position.

I am curious if any Swiss shooting competitions are like those common in the American 3-gun or 2-gun matches where you are obliged to run about, overcome physical obstacles, and engage multiple targets from different positions (and sometimes with different weapons) with par times ranging from one to three minutes?
Probably not given the restrictions on firearms. Also wouldn't seem to suit Switzerland's neutral nature to mimic a shootout with drug cartels or sand people.
Eustace Stritchers Standard competitions are single gun and static. Private organisations do run dynamic practical stuff but it's more of a niche thing.
Even though it's a neutral country, the Swiss military is not to be messed with...

what is the reason for the zip bigotry???
BUSHCRAPPING ISSF shooter here. The zip thing has a couple of reasons. The most notable one I can think of is that jackets are required to demonstrate a certain amount of overlap, the front of the jacket must be able to overlap 70mm when applied around 70newtons of force, with a zip this is difficult to measure compared to buttons.
I'll also add that nowadays most shooters will only have a fully done up jacket in standing, and in kneeling or prone may only have the top two or three buttons fastened, making buttons more favourable. Buttons are also easier to move if the shooter gains or loses weight.

It's a really very convenient way to hang a sling, elbow pads and a shoulder pad off of you. Makes you shoot better :D
It also gives tension across the back which helps prevent your left shoulder from being pulled out of the socket - lots of potential for rotator cuff damage, particularly with a heavy barrelled target rifle and a single point sling over a 60 shot course of fire without a good fitting, supportive jacket.
The only real difference I see with NRA and CMP Highpower the shoulder hook is not allowed.
i have my sling wrapped over the top of the handguard. you dont have to fight any cant this way
Against the rules: Hilfsmittelverzeichnis §5.4. Sling must be attached in the Ordonnanz fashion.

You do not need to move your head to cycle the bolt on the K31. I don’t know why you insist that you must do this.
I can very much assure you that since the cocking ring and my cheekbone cannot occupy the same space-time, that if I do not move my head then I will punch myself in the face with the cocking ring. Which actually happened on Sunday since I was shooting a naked K31 rather than my usual one with 50mm butt extension, and I didn't move my head.
