In this video we profile friend of the show, Kevin, competing in Classic Division in DB2021 with a BAR, 1911 and a 1903A4 - truly hard mode!
Kevin is the guy everyone wants on their team. He sure isn't afraid to do the hard stuff.
Now if only I could find a girl willing to do the hard stuff... 😔
Kevin really does show his stuff In these videos! Always making period guns do what they're made for
Not gonna lie, my jaw dropped a little when I realized that's an ACTUAL BAR, and an original WWI-era/pattern at that. Extremely jealous and envious of that rifle, I'm very glad/happy it's in good hands though and is being used yet not abused.
Thanks for featuring this gentleman, I've never seen/heard of him before!
Kevin also won the classic division. I was squaded with him, he's a great shooter and fun guy to shoot with.
With a BAR? :D
Saw this man’s video yesterday and thought to myself that he deserves an InRange spotlight. Glad you did this!
Where is his video, youtube or other platform?
@@VosperCDN RUclips, his name is HowlinMadAZ
@@sorenlilienthal1368 Thanks!
Same here, RUclips algorithm being useful for once.... =D
The sand pebbles theme is awesome. I'm a huge fan of that classic film
"It's a period modification!" I like his logic.
4:20
Can we appreciate that he’s running in what’s essentially a dress uniform while someone plays Village People in the background as if it’s his theme song? Because that tickles all my sensibilities.
Dress whites are meant to be worn in all hot environments, they breathe very well, so dress uniform, yes, but far from uncomfortable.
Well he was, in fact, In The Navy
Holy mackerel, Kevin's got some epic guns! We frequently see people in the background rocking some unique kit in Karl/Ian/Sinistral's matches, so it's great to see what people are bringing.
I hope to see more of these profiles in the future!
It's always a privilege having this gentleman featured on InRange...this is what makes your channel stand out!
Wow I never quite realized how massive the BAR actually is.
Now this guy is what they call, "a man among boys".
Just watched Kevin's video wearing his classic Navy whites on his channel, what a legend 👍 Hope to see many more guest spots with Kevin on InRange in the future 🤞
whats his channels name? thanks in advance =)
What is Kevin's channel?
@@Scaliad I saw him on a channel called HowlinMadAZ, but don't know if that's officially his channel
Daniel López it seems to be his channel. He replies to questions. Really interesting guy.
@@Lopez1988chile Thanks!
If he had a particularly bad stage, I hope he shouted “What happened. What the hell happened?”! (Would make sense if you’ve seen The Sand Pebbles.)😀
But does Kevin know where the “mane stem stop wow” is located?
This old dude is a chad for lugging around a 20 lbs bar. Holy smokes dont under estimate anyone!
Man what a dope collection. I'm glad this gentleman is going out and using it not many will.
"What was your favorite part of Desert Brutality?"
"Kevin flexing all his bad ass firearms."
Karl can't believe that somebody actually did that.
This is amazing and I love what shows up when you're least expecting. (Also props for always keeping good muzzle discipline in mind even when just doing an interview!)
Oh man, with that scope you can't use clips. He's gotta hand load each shot. Weaponry has really made some amazing advances since War I. That, the BAR which is a heavy, heavy beast and limited capacity 1911. I'm suitably impressed with his commitment to going period at this match. Bravo, sir, bravo!
Edit - I did like the way Karl quickly stepped back to avoid getting swept by the Colt.
Please forgive my ignorance, but doesn't the 1903 have an internal magazine which could be hand loaded one at a time and then used as a repeater? This would be different from a weapon like the M1 Garand that required a clip inside of it to provide the feedlips.
@@BravoCharleses I'm honestly not sure. Kinda hoped Karl or someone in the know would have seen this thread and set things right. I was completely guessing at there being something in the rules about starting empty and hand feeding being the way he wanted to go. You can see at the end of the video he's shooting through the barricade using the rifle as a repeater. I figured it had something to do with that specific match. I've never been to a brutality match and being disabled probably never will.
@@Hawk1966 That's cool. I just figured I would ask. Maybe someone who knows for sure will come along. 👍
@@BravoCharleses Let's hope, until then we ca make stuff up! 🤣
@@BravoCharleses youre right
what OP means is, after the internal 5 round magazine is empty, you would have to reload each bullet individually under the scope instead of using a stripper clip
Running around with a real BAR, I'm certainly jealous. Cool to see though.
Man, I don't know if I could take something as valuable as a real BAR to a brutality match. . . who am I kidding, of course I would. Guns is for shooting not displaying! 😄
Major points of respect from me. Also, Love the fact that it's the WW1 variant of the B.A.R. Some modifications but a cool version.
Plus that looks heavy to hump around all weekend. Kudos, sir!
Kevin was tearing it up with the 1911, impressive accuracy with those miniscule sights.
In the navy playing in the background too lol
I have so much respect for guys who compete in Classic. That looked like both a lot of fun, and a lot of not-fun simultaneously.
Always cool seeing how people become more comfortable and natural being on camera over time
Kevin was such a cool guy. glad I got to meet him. His Cavalry Trooper shooting inspired me to to DB2021 in theme as well. Thanks Kevin!
My first thought from the thumbnail was "Who does this guy think he is, Steve McQueen?" 10/10 did not disappoint!
What a cool and creative load-out choice, and doing some serious work with it!
Like I commented to one of his DB2021 videos: he's truly a brother in spirit of Ian! Thanks to Karl for featuring him here! Guys like that, eccentric individuals they might be, but it's refreshing to see them getting fair scores and seemingly having a ton of fun, doing it! My advise for him on a pistol stage: if you have a longer distance to run to the next firing position, reload to have the maximum capacity in your single stack pistol. That way, you just might avoid an interruption in your string, which is always a nuisance. Just my humble opinion. Safe shooting!
Fantastic to see the spectrum of entry’s to the comp, great to see the ww1 take on the 3gun awesome 👏
On Top Gear, there used to be The Cool Wall, with cars that were cool, or uncool, or Sub Zero, etc.
This guy, is the equivalent of the small seperate fridge they kept to the side, because he's too cool for Sub Zero. Damn!
30-06: removing any ambiguity from “hit” or “miss” for over 100 years.
Major props to this guy for committing to the Classic category. It looked hard enough to run around with an 8 pound AR, this dude did it with a 20 something pound full size rifle, and it seems like he did pretty good too.
This guy is awesome! Sand Pebbles is a great movie!
Love the outfit & firearm choices, and immediately thought of Sand Pebbles when I saw him in the full kit.
He seems like such a genuine and swell guy!
Yes! He is!
I feel you on the using peroid gear. Ran my BAR in a 5k in peroid ww2 Army uniform. Definitely have a connected respect for the BAR operator.
Fun Fact: the original M1918A2 was made with a pistol grip on it similar to that of the FN Model D and even used a similar slow/fast auto mechanism. A few models were made and there’s an existing one up in Springfield Armory in MA in the advanced collection. However, the pistol grip was dropped quickly after once the Ordnance Board sent a memo requiring all of the firearms adopted must have parts interchangeability with the older models of gun. And since it also would’ve require modifications to the base 1918 model, the pistol grip on the A2 BAR was a short-lived endeavor and was dropped even before the US entered the war.
That being said, the very first BAR to be marked “M1918A2” had a pistol grip on it. So a US military BAR with a pistol grip isn’t that far off.
Kevin was a joy to watch in the war for Apacheria episode, and no less so in this appearance.
In that video and this one, he has obvious enthusiasm and deep knowledge for the historical "character" he's representing.
I guess that's a quality of this channel I enjoy in general. No matter who is doing it, it's just very satisfying to see someone lean into their passions with knowledge and skill.
What a cool dude. I'm glad you gave him some camera time.
Love the patches, gotta say!
As soon as I saw you Kevin I was like, "Sand Pebbles!" Love that movie.
Even the guy crazy enough to lug a BAR through Desert Brutality didn’t try to use a revolver 😜
Kevin is a true G
Bringing old stuff to a brutality match: Embrace the suck! Squared.
Блин, как круто, такой классный исторический сетап у человека. А БАР с пистолеткой выглядит, конечно, шибко современно
And I thought Ian was running desert brutality on hard more. Hats off to this man!
Steve McQueen?
The Sand Pebbles?
Kevin truly has Class!
Top bloke for doing classic
Hope he had fun and got good score
Karl nice too see you spotlight this
Again an excellent informative video as usual
All the best from Scotland 🏴
Kevin's awesome. I always enjoy being on the range with him.
Love watching the dust clouds from those 3006 impacts!
If you're gonna carry a 22lb rifle into CQB, it really just ought to be a BAR
Thanks to Kevin for doing this! Great work! I sorta laugh when World War One bolt action rifles have 2,000+ yard sights (very optimistic!). In a stressful situation like Desert Brutality even 500 yards is very difficult!
BARs are such cool guns! One of my favourites.
Always like to see the BAR in action. My father carried one in Italy in WW2.
Before I even watched the video and saw the opening photo of the shooter wearing a sailor uniform while shooting a BAR I immediately thought “Sand Pebbles” and “Steve McQueen”! 👍
That was really interesting! Thank Kevin for all of us, and yes, The Sand Pebbles is a great movie!
Subbed as soon as I saw his head covering collection
He got all dressed up now that is showman ship.
I have a 1903. I have an M1917. Love them both for what they are- A target rifle in military guise and a BATTLE rifle.
I would NEVER choose the 1903 over the 1917 if the targets were able to shoot back.
If I recall correctly from Small Arms Repair training more than 50 years ago, you can assemble the rate-reducing plunger on a 1918A2 in any of four orientations and only one (at 6:00?) actually trips the autosear, but the other 3 produce semi-auto fire.
BAR and 1911! OH YEAH BOI! classic! that 1911 is absolutely beautiful! ❤️😁👍
Love catching up with Kevin. He eats nails for breakfast !!! def hard mode
God-DAMN this is so cool.
So very impressive.
His full run is on HowlinMadAZ (8 stages)
Great historical gear and guns. I think Karl is grateful to have fine gentleman to do the hard and fun challenges, so he can focus on running and filming the match. xD
This stuff is always highly appreciated and welcomed. That sailor outfit in the desert. It just looks so awesome. :D
That .308 round sure rings that steel!
His gear looks awesome and seeing it in action gives appreciations to the boys who had to actually use it in the field. Sure DB is not the real deal but then again it is not a simple range either where you can fire from rest and not have to carry them around
Kudos for hauling all of that weight around in a brutality match. I have a number of WWII era firearms and the weight of those, much less a BAR, is nontrivial.
Great Sand Pebble look. Great shooting.
Holy cow, lugging that BAR through the desert has to be tiring!
A history of US slings could be interesting. After all, cavalry were running single point slings with their 45/70s.
The military being so focused on accuracy came from the Native American wars out west. I had the chance to buy an 03/04 like he has many years ago. It had the original telescope on it but it was fogged up. The store owner stated he knew somebody who could fix it and he would send off and get it fixed if I bought it. The problem was I could not pay for the rifle in one go and the shop was just a little bit out of the way for me.
Karl, I expect those that liked the small aperture peep-sight were hunters before they were soldiers and qualified as Expert Marksmen that shot with both eyes open. Small aperture sights don't interfere as much with your situational awareness if both eyes are open. I'm Surprised the Marines didn't change out the front sight to give it a 200-yard zero and remark the rear sight. "It’s been said by firearms historians that the Germans brought a hunting rifle, the British brought a battle rifle, and the Americans brought a target rifle." - unknown.
Kevin sure seems like a fun fella to shoot with
Loving that set up. Very cool, Kev!
I remember being on the firing line with my arm all wrapped up in the M16's 3point sling waiting for some idiot to finish getting his ass chewed for making a safety violation. My arm fell asleep, and it made a pretty effective monopod at that point.
😂
Thanks Kevin and Karl for interesting content.
Respect! Keep up the excellent work!
That BAR is so beautiful
Reminds me of the Movie "The Sand Pebbles" with Steve McQueen AMD Richard Attenborough
Absolutely love this :)
what a great spotlight. Quality content
Kevin can shoot lights out from what i saw in this video. very impressive
Sand pebbles shoot......... very cool!
Those period weapons are awesome!
I love seeing what everyone else brought.
When the DOOM music hits but it is in Jazz!
Outstanding content very interesting
Great to see this, thanks
Great to see the hard difficulty gear.
thanks man, kevin's awesome
I hope we see more of Kevin!!!
I subscribed to his channel after watching a couple of his stages from DB but I think I’m one of 30 something subs. With InRangeTV he’ll have a much larger audience and can help fill Ian’s role of using old guns in matches.
HowlinMadAZ went from 32 when I subscribed to 178 today!!!
Seen Kevin's videos and it's so cool what he does.
What’s his channel?

At the end the BAR just sounds amazing. Really sounds like it packs a heavy punch.
That scenery is beautiful
I heard someone playing “In the Navy” in the background when he was shooting those two round bursts. Fitting for the Navy vet 🤣 🤠 🤣!
You sir are a hero!
Man I hope we see more Kevin. Dude slings lead.
That thumbnail brought me right to one of my favorite movies, sand pebbles
Kevin’s theme and gear is just damn cool.
That is cool, and he seems to be a really good shot!
