That’s probably the canon explanation, but what I’m wondering is how inklings get to turf war in splatoon 3. Do they just enter the map on the flying espresso machines or do they have to super jump onto the flying espresso machines?
When it comes to the meal ticket, I also pictured it as a sponsorship - you eat their food before a match to advertise "Hey, I like this food" and the food company matches your next match's earnings as payment; much like on RUclips where sponsoring snack companies are like "We'll ship you a free box of snacks *and* pay you, if tell your fans you like them." It would have been actually pretty fitting if Bokksu or Hello Fresh sponsored this video…
A small tidbit that you didn't mention: Inklings actually hate coins/change. It was mentioned in some sort of interview at somepoint. Which both makes sense and contradicts the game. It makes sense to the game, as there isn't change; it's always a base number of $ earned. Its a contradiction as well, since G's are shown as coins so...

The food and drinks that crusty Sean cells is probably full of energy so that way we can get more abilities and more money so that way the inklings can play better. He also probably resells the tickets if they're in good shape for a pretty high price of what a normal ticket would cost.
Crusty Sean's business was doing so well the other shop owners were starting to get upset with him because they were losing business. They then struck up a deal for him to only accept food tickets (I think he still profits somehow) and food tickets cannot be bought or sold. I always assumed that the money we got from turf ward were like donations from the jellyfish. Like, we play turf war for free because it's fun, but it gets broadcast to anyone who wants to watch, and all the jellyfish at home or at work watching can donate if we seem interesting (aka if we're doing good and if our team is doing good). For the food my thoughts are kinda like,,, so you need a ticket to even get it in the first place, so those shops are kinda exclusive. If you see an inkling eat there you know they're kinda a big name, and so more people are paying attention and they get more donations/more clout, which makes them level up faster and the shopkeepers respect them more. The reason you can get them from grizzco is because Crusty Shaun sells them to people, making it inconvenient for people to obtain and keeping his lines shorter. Mr Grizz realized that Inklings would do almost anything to get them so he hands them out as bonuses sometimes since it's a big draw for potential employees. Basically inklings are influencers and make money from people giving them superchats and tbh that's just really fitting for Splatoon. by the way, for any of my fellow Australians, cash is basically equivalent to our cents, as it seems quite similar to Yen and each Yen is about 0.011 AUD, so you can theoretically just convert the amount of cash something costs in Splatoon 1 or 2 to Aussie Cents and it’ll be relatively accurate, neato.
When you mentioned the food tickets around 7:03 I figured that Crusty Sean just sponsered players who ate at his truck, seeing how popular food trucks seem to be in every universe I seen them in, which is only ten.
I always thought the way the "cash" worked was like a card from Dave and Buster's. When you win you'd get "cash" automatically placed on your card that you can use to spend it.
I will just post what i think, dont care if someone else happened to think the same (we are 8 billions, there are chances for this to happen): to me it sounds more like turf wars are gladatorial fights, the cash is more of a token reserved to inklings, which will then use as credits to live and buy weapons. Essentially, it is all an incentive to keep turf wars (which with no doubt are a great source of entertainment) going with always new and always fresh players to join them. Perhaps the food= double money thing is just a matter of popularity, there was another game where when you did x thing it would've given you some sort of popularity bonus (not pokemon x and y, tho it may be similar). Maybe cash is just for younger inklings, we know they are a bit dense, so perhaps this is also used to teach them about working to get money and live while measuring themselves. It would actually make sense and be a very effective way to teach them how life works, incentivize learning by using something they love to do (turf wars) as a bait, whilst the worker class gets some entertainment (much like soccer or other sports)
Lot of fun thoughts in this video, and nicely edited! Gonna be That Guy and make a correction: crusty sean didnt work IN the shoal, but rather the spot where he set up his food truck led to long lines that blocked the entrance of the shoal, and that led to the complaints. the ticket thing is an arrangement he made with the inkopolis square chamber of commerce, and that's how he earns the money.

I figure Octarian society is communist. Since Octolings are naturally drawn towards inventing and innovating, the reward system provided by capitalism is unnecessary for them.
This video has so much information on cash in Splatoon, which when I watched this whole video. My brain has exploded because this is just lore about money. I never really thought about this, but know I will never get this out of my mind. Also nice video!
Have you ever wondered, why do the idols always pick the same team that shows up on their side? What if for example Marina was on team chaos and Pearl was on team order? Do they know the splatfests before the news? Probably not, since everytime there's a splatfest they always have a dialogue where they want to know the splatfest theme. Or is it just a coincidence? Eh I might be overthinking it too much
The crust bucket grizzco partnership makes a lot of sense. Grizz probably makes most of his money selling eggs anyway & the tickets are a way to get free workers
I don’t know if this seems important or make sense, but I think that Inklings and Octolings can only go to the stages through the “pipe holes” or launchpads to battle. If they just want to go there to hang out or something, they need to take the trains
6:21 we could use splatoon 2's limited hours for Salmon run as the in-universe work hours, and I always assumed the map rotation was due to Salmonids migrating like their real-world counterparts.
I've heard mentioned in a different lore deep-dive video that for the stages in Splatoon 2, some of them are close enough to be reached via launchpad/super jumping, but others are far away enough to need to be traveled to by train. ... Which would then lead to the question of which stages are closer and which stages are farther? And how much does a train ride cost? And frankly, how much does anything cost outside of what's shown in the game? What's the median rent for a space in Inkopolis? How much does it cost to get a meal at the inkling version of Olive Garden? Do they have unlimited breadsticks, or is there an unlimited something else instead? Do inklings have bread at all??? ... I think I've gotten off track, but anyway, yeah, this is an interesting thing to think about. Thanks for the video!
I like to think that Inkopolis is a post scarcity utopia and the turf wars are just a circular economy. Inklings buy clothes, the clothing companies simply give their money back to the inklings in the form of turf wars, and the clothing companies are sponsored by the government. Turf wars are simply a form of entertainment for the Inklings and Octolings.
You think there some sort species restrictions? For example most inkling/octoling might only there jobs in these battles, however the jellyfish people can’t participate in game but work what we think normal job? Is Grizzco a cheap way to get eggs? Using the cheap and efficient inkling/octoling they can make huge profit with little to no training. All inklings even go to school? Or only rich them? Do they play game to get money to there school?
If there’s a real in universe explanation for why food and drinks give you an increase in cash or exp, it’s probably the idea that food and drinks would give you energy in real life. Thus you’d perform better in battle.
Oh god I would LOVE a swag pad of your own to decorate in 3. Cool bed, cool wallpaper, cool posters, replicas of things from previous story modes and the new storymode, maybe an amiibo stand, weapon rack or clothes rack... that would be cool.
I think crusty Sean, when you use a meal ticket and eat a money up, he is basically saying "thanks for eating here" by sponsoring you and giving you more money, encouraging you to work more shifts at grizzco to get meal tickets, ext
Isn’t it stated somewhere that most inklings average about 2 hours a day doing turf war? If we think of that as their main source of income then that probably means that G is worth at least a little more than Yen considering you can make a living off only 2 hours of turf war per day. Seeing as weapons are in somewhat high demand in this world it doesn’t make sense to me for them to be as cheap as a normal squirt gun. I’d expect the prices to be more akin to actual rifles and other such weapons.
I think that Crusty Shawn (or however you spell his name) works with the jellyfish so whenever a inkling buys food he gives the ticket to the jellyfish to transfer into cash which is given back to you as double the money
Personally I think this a flawed way of doing about determining the worth of the G 'Maybe use the Nike tie in to help determine the worth of G,or using in game items, and comparing their price in g to the price of a similar item irl. Anyways nitpick aside, great video!
personally the way i see it, g is specifically for buying turf war equipment only and they have a separate currency for regular use (which I think would be sand dollars)
Speaking of sponsoring the matches, do you think Jellyfish gamble on Turf War or Ranked matches? Or maybe it’s illegal there? There has to be laws, since the guns are disabled in the plaza (Although with the Chaos winning, some laws might be removed) If so, There might be underground gambling places.
$8.63 for 3 minutes work, add 2 min for lobby and load times (ideally), and that's (times 20 to make an hour) $172.60 an hour. That's... Actually quite a lot.
Here’s an in universe idea. Think of the turf wars/ranked modes as a 3 minute airsoft/paintball match, there could be many teams at the various stages at one time. Think of how you can get the same stage over and over and over again in the 2 hours the stages are in rotation. Perhaps it’s just you/your team staying at the same stage. On to the time thing, while I’m not going to do the math. Every match is 3 minutes (give or take for ranks overtime) add some down time for point payouts, clean up and what not, you could make a hefty profit from just and hour or two of matches. Ooor maybe you get payed out when you leave. Tally up all your points, add the win bonuses and show that to the sponsors or whoever’s hosting the match. I honestly hope we get an in-game explanation on how this all works.
Something that interests me is, how do Inklings and Octolings breed? Do they lay eggs like birds, give birth alive like humans, or spawn like frogs? I hope someone knows the answer.
If you slice a tentacle hair off an octoling the piece becomes an octarian, maybe short slices become octarians, long slices become octolings, medium slices either become tall octarians or short octolings? as for inklings, maybe short slices become short inklings and long slices become tall inklings?????????? none of us know edit : nooe of us know
I assumed that Gs were like crypto currency, in that you have a registered id account, and you have a QR code or something you scan when entering matches, grizz co etc. Based on ranking set by each employer, you earn Gs and those act like money and can be exchanged for clothes etc. Meal tickets wouldwork the same way, except they are physical items and rare, thus can be "sold" for much higher Gs.
My theory is that the cash earned from turf war is only used for buying gear and weapons for turf war. You can't buy, say like, furniture with it. Maybe a different currency is used for non-battle related goods and services; for inklings/octolings/jellies and whoever that don't participate in turf wars.
If I had to guess I would say that the meal tickets might be a sponsor deal sense It seems most of the money is exchanged through jellies and inklings are just athletes and celebrities that get paid to be entertaining
I'm guessing that in universe g is like dimes or pennys, just a minor currency type. Maybe it's value is disjointed from larger coins or bills (not to a round number or ability to add up to it easily?) And probably about... 2 times a yen?
Love the research put into this video, love how someone finally did a math part of this money topic this It goes well with rassicas in-lore video on how money works in universe (Here it is btw ruclips.net/video/LvMVbNVXVYw/видео.html)
I WANTED TO DO THAT, because some clothing is pretty cheap not too pricey shirts that cost like $5 and such but then there’s the obvious designer clothes which costs like $70 a shirt which is kinda nuts but felt like it’s pretty similar in game to the real world
It's a sponsorship deal. That's why the tickets- by using the sponsorship tickets and eating it publicly Crusty gets free advertisement and the Jellyfish flock to his foodtruck while watching Turf Wars and other Splatbattles.
i imagine since in splatoon, they're kind of living a reboot of human culture, they've probably borrowed the good aspects and applied it to a culture with less scarcity. basic needs are probably inexpensive
so i was thinking about this but with plants vs zombies garden warfare coins and i noticed that since the coins have zombie heads then zombies use them? so how do the plants get them then well im guessing that crazy dave has plants go undercover and steal the coins and packs, so that he can make the plants work out there as a sort of payment. sticker packs come up the msot here as if you dont know you get a part of a variant of one charterer so the zombies use the sticker packs so the zombies can eat plants and can get more zombies on their side but on the plants side they use sticker packs to save the plants that were stuck in the packs and stop the zombies from getting put together. my writing is bad lol and this is a mess in general
I always understood it as we the players are professional athletes In a sense.. Like turf wars are a common game in splitoon but the players are doing it professionally for entertainment and that's why we get paid for matches.

If they just want to go there to hang out or something, they need to take the trains
your overthinking makes me (and all of us) realize that we never think about these things
I love these types of episodes!
4:16 that’s… me!?! Lmao 🤣
It was only a matter of time before I saw someone in a situation like this.
You’re RUclips channel is awesome and I love splatoon lol
I like how the whole "Grizzco sponsoring Crusty Sean" bit came true recently. But it's not Mr. Grizz who's behind it.
Bro wth your videos are so high quality for a channel your size
6:21 we could use splatoon 2's limited hours for Salmon run as the in-universe work hours, and I always assumed the map rotation was due to Salmonids migrating like their real-world counterparts.
In lore crusty Sean could sponsor you if you ate his food which leads to the extra cash.
Ink battles is literally just an analogy for competitive players getting cash from hopping one con to another
I've heard mentioned in a different lore deep-dive video that for the stages in Splatoon 2, some of them are close enough to be reached via launchpad/super jumping, but others are far away enough to need to be traveled to by train.
8:23 food tickets scattered in alterna 🤨
I like to think that Inkopolis is a post scarcity utopia and the turf wars are just a circular economy. Inklings buy clothes, the clothing companies simply give their money back to the inklings in the form of turf wars, and the clothing companies are sponsored by the government. Turf wars are simply a form of entertainment for the Inklings and Octolings.
how inklings/octolings keep their clothes changing forms maybe the ancient tech explains it?
120 dolars on avarage PER DAY seems like a pretty good deal honestly
That’s some big moneys
If an inkling spends a full 40 hours a week, that’s about $15 an hour, which really isn’t that much. Not enough to make a living.
Thus you’d perform better in battle.
upon finding out that in splat 3 arty will only take those tickets me and my friend both were like "damn, inflation is coming down hard"
whoa, the editing for the "amazon" is insane
I HOPE in Splatoon 3 there’s some kind of Amazon like website to order clothes and weapons
Oh god I would LOVE a swag pad of your own to decorate in 3. Cool bed, cool wallpaper, cool posters, replicas of things from previous story modes and the new storymode, maybe an amiibo stand, weapon rack or clothes rack... that would be cool.
Important thing to note about the cheap, high quality clothing: Clothing is not very expensive to make
I seriously asked this question to my friends. Kinda weird how this showed up.
I’d expect the prices to be more akin to actual rifles and other such weapons.
insane upload 🙏🙏🙏
bro it's been a minute watch the whole thing
How do people get on the vid so fast?!
I think that Crusty Shawn (or however you spell his name) works with the jellyfish so whenever a inkling buys food he gives the ticket to the jellyfish to transfer into cash which is given back to you as double the money
The inklings also have to do something to maintain their weapons every few games
Scrubbing👍
9:24 This is in a world without inflation. Lucky Inklings and Octolings.
Personally I think this a flawed way of doing about determining the worth of the G
'Maybe use the Nike tie in to help determine the worth of G,or using in game items, and comparing their price in g to the price of a similar item irl.
Anyways nitpick aside, great video!
personally the way i see it, g is specifically for buying turf war equipment only and they have a separate currency for regular use (which I think would be sand dollars)
I think the value could be DKK (danish krone).
“I’m sticking with casual”
*preach*
I believe meal tickets are just a way for the food vendors to advertise through your character, which may be the reason for the currency boost
Wow. Were those Source Filmmaker renders? If so, then did you make them or did you find them? I'd like to know who made those background pictures.
I think inkings and octolings just super jump and the trains and things are for the jellyfish and such
Hehe its an official currency at us and here is what its worth: 1 g = 1 gold coin and every time it gets higher it will worth more
Speaking of sponsoring the matches, do you think Jellyfish gamble on Turf War or Ranked matches? Or maybe it’s illegal there? There has to be laws, since the guns are disabled in the plaza (Although with the Chaos winning, some laws might be removed) If so, There might be underground gambling places.
$8.63 for 3 minutes work, add 2 min for lobby and load times (ideally), and that's (times 20 to make an hour) $172.60 an hour. That's... Actually quite a lot.
how DEEP CAN SPLATOON LORE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO X-------------X
Probably to the shallow end
AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN
@@TrinityRBG DEAD
If they do take a train to each battle ground, then the sponsors likely allow free passage to allow for more fluidity for matches.
Inklings: Plays turf wars for money
Jellyfish: “Your total will be $10.50, meet at the next window.”
In euro's it is:
Turf war:111,55
Salmon run:250,05
Vending machine:464,48
If you slice a tentacle hair off an octoling the piece becomes an octarian, maybe short slices become octarians, long slices become octolings, medium slices either become tall octarians or short octolings? as for inklings, maybe short slices become short inklings and long slices become tall inklings??????????
none of us know
edit : nooe of us know
I assumed that Gs were like crypto currency, in that you have a registered id account, and you have a QR code or something you scan when entering matches, grizz co etc.
2 times a yen?
i like to think that crusty sean has a separate menu of all the food items without the bonus effects he sells for the normal currency
Love the research put into this video, love how someone finally did a math part of this money topic this
It goes well with rassicas in-lore video on how money works in universe (Here it is btw ruclips.net/video/LvMVbNVXVYw/видео.html)
I'm sad you didn't say TUBES instead of ink pipelines.
It’s cause I wanted to do a lil Mario reference :(
Don't ask questions you aren't prepared to handle the answer to
What if you went the other way, and you compared how much shirts cost in game vs in the real world?
I WANTED TO DO THAT, because some clothing is pretty cheap not too pricey shirts that cost like $5 and such but then there’s the obvious designer clothes which costs like $70 a shirt which is kinda nuts but felt like it’s pretty similar in game to the real world
How the jelly fish is on the coin acting as Queen Elizabeth! Lol 0:51
i always kinda viewed the coins as being something like tickets at an arcade, and the shops are the prize counters in a way
It's a sponsorship deal.
5:50 That’s ????… that’s orange, homie…
Confusion?
That’s orange not pink
This is super interesting, for no reason 😂
7:00 - 7:50 Maybe you get extra money because those matches of Turf War are sponsored by Crusty Sean
so i was thinking about this but with plants vs zombies garden warfare coins and i noticed that since the coins have zombie heads then zombies use them? so how do the plants get them then well im guessing that crazy dave has plants go undercover and steal the coins and packs, so that he can make the plants work out there as a sort of payment. sticker packs come up the msot here as if you dont know you get a part of a variant of one charterer so the zombies use the sticker packs so the zombies can eat plants and can get more zombies on their side but on the plants side they use sticker packs to save the plants that were stuck in the packs and stop the zombies from getting put together. my writing is bad lol and this is a mess in general
I always understood it as we the players are professional athletes In a sense.. Like turf wars are a common game in splitoon but the players are doing it professionally for entertainment and that's why we get paid for matches.
