The world of Splatoon is seriously one of my favorites in all of gaming. There's just so much style and creativity packed into everything, and the hairstyles and music are perfect examples. Seeing how many hairstyles there are now compared to the original was a really cool graphic, and it shows how far this series has come. Also that tiny mohawk salmomid song was fire! Great video!
and the fact of just how fleshed out the lore is. Weapons, brands, and artists that don't even appear in the game. Hell, even a PIECE OF GRAFFITI on one splatoon map was made by this crazy extremist group who thinks the octarians are in the right. Its crazy.
I honestly agree, but I also wish they used some of the other hairstyles in the concept art (mainly the unused octo expansion hairstyles) but yeah, the way hair works is so unique, and is something that always amazes me.
@@GetMadz they're shown in haikara walker, which is basically the art book for octo expansion (as of now it's only available in japanese). if you search 'unused octoling hairstyles' you'll find them!

I think for inklings with cutting their hair, I think that once you cut it, a suction cup forms. Those hairstyles without suction cups probably just cut their hair more often to stop that process happening.

As someone who started with Splatoon 2 in like 2019, it's very bizarre to me that in splatoon 1, yall settled with either "girl cut" or "boy cut" and THAT'S IT. YOU GET 2, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.
What's really cute is the difference in facial expressions the inklings and octolings have, the octolings always just seem so much happier to finally be apart of it all

I really like the character maker because of the way they silently do androgyny. I can quite literally be messy but still stylish, without looking like a certain gender (entirely). I can pick whatever hairstyle I want, and choose which body I want, and which pant style I want. Nothing is gender-locked which is why I love Splatoon 3 so much. I also love the way frye looks. And it feels more like an actual festival during the splatfests now.
Your Inkling character is so cute and well animated. The whole video is very well-done, taking in the same UI, elements and animations as the game. The backgrounds are so detailed, even the Pearl/Marina amiibos! I kept replaying the video to find new stuff each run. Great job and I haven't even started on the topic. Sharing this to my network!

What i love about the Splatoon series is that it never left it's accuracy to the limb amounts of the inklings and octolings. I was worried they'd give up on it just to have cooler hairstyles but to my surprise they didn't and actually made it work in creative and interesting ways. I love the Splatoon devs
I think that's another thing that makes the franchise cool when it comes to making OCs as well. It really forces players to be creative and think on how they want to execute their splatsona's hairstyle without breaking the tentacle rule

About how they cut their hair: some irl squids *can* regenerate their tentacles, and (from what I understand) their tentacles are some of the first things regenerated in that process. You could also argue that since some of the hair don’t have suction cups, maybe it’s just that some styles require more maintenance than others?

i think its funny how the octoling afro just. doesnt follow the rules and is just a big puff of hair with no tentacles in sight (they did actually try and make it make more logical sense to a octopus but it didnt really work out all that great)

What hairstyle I *really* want is technically already in the games: I want the hairstyle that the enemy octolings have in the single-player modes. I love it so much!
i still think for how pretty the npcs haircuts can be, and the concept styles, we're lacking a lot of customization. id love more haircuts in general, and to be able to choose more than one color for hair like a gradient. and more options for eyebrows and possibly other facial features would b rlly cool.
I imagine that they can just go into squid/octo form and concentrate really hard to change their hair. And it's much easier to concentrate for shorter hair than to grow their hair out, and it takes practice to get a hairstyle, which is why in Splatoon 1 mostly everyone had the same basic hairstyles. Hair salons exist but they're mainly there to give 'highlights'(like, dying parts of the tentacles diff colors like with Marina's hair, dying your fingertips or other body parts like with Frye's dyed fingers, or even changing your natural ink color fully). And also can be hired to help teach someone how to form a hairstyle they want. Hey I just realized - i've thought way too hard on this.

As a guy who ADORES the ocean and all its creatures (especially octopuses), and loves shooters, splatoon easily became one of my favorite games.
