Actually, that reminds me - I remember Octo tech having a lot to do with Tea Kettles. They're good places for residencies, at least, but are also related to ancient human drink containers (kettles vs soda cans here). Perhaps Splatsville tech is fancy/researched enough that kettle-related effects can be replicated in itty-bitty Tacticooler cans? That'd explain the faster respawn time a bit, since Kettles can spawn/teleport Octarians all day.

Maybe the boost comes from a social aspect. Kind of like bards and musical people during times of war in the past. A refreshing drink during the middle of the match by a fellow inkling/octoling giving you a morale boost, coupled with the sweetness of the sugar to give you a hype boost, and the intensified action part may be an effect from the drink giving you better focus. Some type of sugar rush without having your body be all shaky.

Fun fact: Sugar doesn’t even make you more hyper. It’s a placebo and people eating large amounts of sugar are typically kids at exiting events like a birthday party so of course they are exited.
What I thought of was pretty much similar to this
Since apparently specials are trigged by strong emotions, perhaps the cans are filled with ink and some sort of strong emotions/energy that gives the inklings(and octolings) an energy boost and all of the buffs
That makes me really curious about how the Tacticooler drinks might be advertised in game. If it's a morale booster, is there just a lot of hype around their brand name? Why do battle regulators and competing cephalopods choose Tacticooler drinks over other specials? Are there any other brands of Tacticooler drinks???
If you're going by the ability buffs for the drink flavors, Tacticooler grants 57 AP (the equivalent of 19 sub abilities) for all of the buffs except Run and Swim Speed which get 29 AP, so the gazpacho and cherry apple flavors would be in much lower concentration compared to the other five flavors. It'd be a generically fruity blend with a bit of matcha kick, which honestly sounds quite tasty.

I think the most likely solution is that the ink tanks on the inklings back work like iv bags, and the drink gets put into the ink supply. I think assuming that ink would be similar to blood in splatoon, so the adrenaline could be diffused into their blood stream through their ink tank, and if you’ve ever had an iv you’ll know that you can taste the salt content in your breath because the transfusion in the capillaries in your lungs transfers the salt. So I think that they don’t even eat the drink, but there would still be some sort of taste to it, which might either be just salty, sugary, or dependent on ink color.

My headcanon on what’s actually in the tacticooler cans is that it’s actually a sort of jungle juice cocktail blend of all the different drinks you get from crab-n-go for the abilities that the tacticooler provides. So it’s a combination of gazpacho, cherry-apple, citrus, grape, matcha, salted melon, and whatever the hell “actionberry” is supposed to be.
Actionberry is a ACTUAL berry in the Splatoon world probably

For that last question, I will note that not all liquids have to be water based. Since Inklings are made of ink, it would make sense that they drink it.
I'm thinking that since Inklings and Octolings are able to change their forms, get splatted, respawn and have some pretty amazing athletic abilities, their bodies would metabolise a lot. Metabolism is the sum of chemical reactions in the body so that might mean that Splatlings are able to easily ingest and 'metabolise' the Tacticooler energy drinks!
As for what it would taste like, I'd like to think it's just a highly caffeinated sugary drink, knowing that Splatlings would probably not enjoy drinking brine or cold water. When you deploy a Tacticooler, some Splatlings who consume it have a 'Refreshing!' speech bubble atop their characters, this certainly implies that they enjoy the drink. Maybe they really do like the taste of brine...
...Splatlings? If you mean Inklings + Octolings, Inkfish is a term already used in Splatoon.

I’m pretty sure I read that the text on the tacticooler when deciphered literally reads “redb” or something alike, so I imagine it would just taste like a red bull. The instant boost I would attribute to it just being a game mechanic, but if we’re looking for an in-world reason I’d suggest that the liquid once drank is absorbed into the body the same way ink can be recovered removing the whole digestive system time delay.
Knowing the personality of inklings, this thing probably has 500g of sugar and five coffees worth of caffiene.
Flavoured to the brim with every artifical fruit flavour known to squid kind.
Trinity should absolutely make a video taste-testing the mixture of all of the drink boost flavors

I think it’d probably taste similar to Red Bull as it’s seemingly a reference to it based on an advertisement that players noticed on Mahi Mahi Resort where it says something along the lines of “Red Fish” and the logo looks similar to it.

The liquid thing is not that hard: in the JP version of S2, Pearl tells the viewers to hydrate by drinking water, and no, don't tell me Marina says that they can't, that's a NA thing, like the Splatfest Law, in the JP ver they don't mention anything about them not being able to drink water

@@LiEnby In the english version Pearl only says to stay hydrated, but according to inkipedia, in jp she says "It's good to get excited over battles, but be sure to drink plenty of water!" during the Starfish Mainstage introduction, and Marina just says that it's very nice advice from her, so they can drink water, and by extend soda and energy drinks
I would guess in universe, quick respawn is basically how fast the little ghost squid goes? Idk, some things you just can't lore out.
For that last question, i believe that Inklings and Octolings have some sort of water-resistant insides of some kind? It doesn't make much sense considering they would dissolve on the outside but not inside, but hear me out. I saw a theory that when an Inkling/Octoling "pops", they actually just have most of their ink explode out of them making them light enough to become those little ghosts until their respawn machine refills their body with ink! Which could then make more sense as they wouldn't of actually dissolved!

The tacticooler gives quick respawn because your ghost is enegized by the drink and thus moves to the spawner drone faster
The quick respawn may be the speed boost applied to the player also being applied to their ghost when they're splatted, making the ghost get to the respawn thingie in record time
the second theory makes tacti-cooler sound like inklings just pour every flavor of soda together in their cups at the soda fountain. on brand honestly.

Honestly, stumbling across this specific video in my RUclips feed and clicking on it for the first time was absolutely hilarious. This video was just an advanced explanation of what I had theorized early into my Splatoon (and RUclips content creation) journey. I had always thought that the drinks were liquid adrenaline; ever since I made a video about a year ago about me trying the Dynamo Roller for the first time. This was really amusing to watch! Great video!

I would like to believe it changes based on ink color, but knowing Japanese media, it's either Amrita, aka avocado, or just Ramune, likely just the classic flavor.
Sheldon in his description for the regular Dynamo Roller mentions that everyone will be "relaxing and enjoying sweet, sugary sips from your Tacticooler, of course."
So there's DEFINITELY a lot of sugar in it.

Inklings and octolings probably have very fast metabolism. Everytime they consume food, they gain effect instantly. Probably just a video gamey explanation of mechanic, but i like it :3
I always thought that it tastes like if you went to a fast food place and you put a litte bit of every soda there because if the marigold gives buffs for different abilitys and the tacticooler should taste like all the drinks but really I'm not sure

apparently salted tomato tastes pretty good, so gazpacho flavored ink might be it, like it's tomato flavored and they use the natural salt to make it gazpacho flavored. maybe the can is made of something edible so they just eat the whole drink? and the ink lets it bypass any membranes in their body so the boosts are instant

I feel like they like absorb it into theyre body because the cans are thin like theyre skin but its thin enough to go through theyre body and once it absorbs it the can melts like inklings when they touch water and inside there is just quick respawn drink swim speeed up drink etc and it tastes like if you mixed those drinks all togheter so maybe like cocacola with a lot of flavors
Funny thing about the Quick Respawn bit near the end, I was thinking that the drink gives enough energy to even affect their souls or whatever floats up from when they get taken out to make them move back to the respawner quicker. It's a bit of a stretch, but the series has shown that literal floating platforms have been made by Octarians so it could be possible.

Another thing to back this up is that apparently inklings get hyped up in order to activate a special.
this reminds me of one time where i was playing splatoon with my girlfriend, and for some reason i saw the opposing team deploy a tacticooler and thought, "i wish i could steal all of the drinks from the enemy's tacticooler." from then on, we've devised progressively worse sabotages for the tacticooler, including but not limited to tampering with the drinks inside them, and knocking the damn thing over to waste all of the drinks inside.
squid ink is like… tangy?? like sweet and tangy in a weird way. it’s hard to explain bc it doesn’t really taste like anything else. the aftertaste is kinda blegh but it’s really good for some dipping sauce for some seafood (:

1:13 well, considering how both races seem capable of osmosis at a rapid rate, i think it's safe to say that they absorb liquids rapidly.
About your ink-based adrenaline shot theory:
I think Cephlings probably either have two circulatory systems, one for blood and one for ink, or share a joint circulatory system for both fluids. If the adrenaline infused ink does get absorbed into the inkstream, then it would just do the exact same thing adrenaline in our body does since adrenaline gets transported by the bloodstream, assuming that if the bloodstream and inkstream are separate that the inkstream can actually transport hormones.

The big issue with the theory based on the concession stand drinks is that those drinks don’t actually give those buffs - they make you more likely to roll those buffs when leveling up pieces of gear.
There is maybe a LOT more of it in the tacticooler.

I actually have an idea for how these work. My theory goes as follows:
These are much like Energy drinks but the caffeine is replaced with a modified version of Methanphetamine. This drink produces very similar effect to Meth, the main difference being that the effects are more inmediate and the duration of these effects is far shorter. It wouldnt even be the fist time Meth is used for combat purposes, as German tank crews used Meth to be able to move day and night without stopping during the French campaign and in the early stages of Operation Barbarossa(the invasion of the Soviet Union).

I have no basis for this but I always thought that the tactic cooler drinks tastes like a lesser known energy drink called Rip It. Mainly just because the can reminds of it but it also fits somewhat in the context of Splatoon because it was originally only manufactured for U.S soldiers
TBH i always assumed the anatomy of the inkling being pure liquid ink just made their body assimilate energy drinks instantly unlike with people where it has to get digested

I would just assume it to be some form of sugary caffeinated energy drink, and that the reason the effect is so much faster than real life caffeine is due to a combination of: 1, Inklimgs ate made mostly... of Ink. Since they're already mostly liquid, the caffeine of the drink would be able to circulate through their bodies much faster than a human's metabolism could; 2, it's a special weapon, equivalent in lore to the ability to transform into an immortal Kraken for 12 seconds or charge a spirit bomb to nuke anyone unfortunate enough to be in your line of sight; 3, it's a funny colorful woomy and veemo game made by Nintendo, and much like the Zelda timeline, it doesn't have to make a lick of sense.
I personally subscribe to the idea theres at least some kind of special ink in it that boosts absorption. I mean, Marie has her special Low Tide ink that's never mentioned again, implying there are variations of ink types, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were inks specially designed for foods. Especially considering cephalopods can't be exposed to water on its own - maybe it's made of carrier molecules where it can carry molecules of water for that sweet sustenance all life needs while making it safe for cephalopods to drink. There could also be different types of food grade drink ink, such as health-promoting ink, candy ink, etc. - then, these different kinds of ink are used in the concessions drinks, giving them their fun various boosts. And again, since inklings absorb ink easily and quickly, their effects can be as fast or as slow as needed.
Candy ink probably making up drinks such as Swim Speed, Intensify Action, Run Speed, Special Charge, Quick Super Jump. Adrenaline boosting inks would make up drinks like Quick Respawn and Resistance Ups. And as for the Savers and Ink Recovery, probably some other kind of hormonal ink; think endocrine feedback loops.
Of course, multiple kinds of ink raises the question of, How Are These Guys Not Dead
Honestly I think it'd be a fun idea for Nintendo to cross over with some kinda drink company and make a limited time Tacticooler themed canned soda. Maybe that way we could know what it tastes like.

Firstly I think when it comes to respawn (there’s prolly a scroll I’m forgetting but I’m just winging it) I believe because ink and octolings are made out of ink and thus their dna is stored in that ink, we can think of respawns as almost printers that save their dna, and recreate their exact ink genetic makeup. Fast respawn could be that it makes their ink dna more readable and recognizable, thus produced much faster than normal.
Secondly I believe inklings and octos can drink stuff because their bodies are filled with a lot of salt, for water is attracted to and stays in areas of the most salt contents than areas with lesser salt contents, so these liquids will stay within their bodies because of the abundance of salt.
