The things I loved most about Splatoon 1 are: 1. Ink Mines that could one-hit KO (I also miss the Aerospray having Ink Mines, and I really don't like how Splatoon 3 got rid of the Bomb Launchers). 2. Quick Respawn that worked on every death no matter what (Also Damage Up, Defense Up, Bomb Sniffer, and the Last Ditch Effort that gave Quick Respawn effect). 3. Saltspray Rig, my favorite stage (Also, the old Mahi Mahi Resort was way better). 4. Not having to press a button to look at the map and Super Jump (though Beakons are way better in Splatoons 2 and 3). 5. Most of all, hackers.

Story time! Time to ramble about how I got into the game/series! I actually wasn't ever interested in Splatoon. I just saw it as the strange game that a friend wanted to play. That's why it was shocking when said friend got ME the game for my birthday. They said that they thought I'd like it, but I wasn't as sure at first. However, I tried it a few times, and actually enjoyed it. It soon became my go-to game. By the time the Switch came out, I was hooked on it enough for the 2nd game to be worth it. (I wish I'd gotten S1 sooner, though. I missed all Splatfests and only had about a year with it before I got S2.) I don't want this game to go. I mean, there's Pretendo, but not as many people will be there. I never intended to get you, but I'm sure glad I did. Goodbye Splatoon 1. You will always be in our hearts, forever. R.I.P.

Despite it's glaring flaws, Saltspray rig remains my favorite map in the entire franchise, And I won't give up hope on it being added to splatoon 3 until the update cycle comes to a halt.
Just played Splatoon 1 again yesterday. As an og Splatoon 1 fan that still absolutely loves the game I have to say: I don't see why so many people absolutely despise the 2nd and 3rd game. They are perfectly fine games that are a lot of fun to play, and I stand by my opinion that Splatoon 3 is the best one in the series despite its flaws.

My Splatoon 1 experience was like walking through 4 feet of mud while my feet are slipping on ice and felt like culture shock but it’s a video game. I swear I could *FEEL* game movement and somehow people don’t talk about that 😭 It still feels sad to see Splatoon 1 go. I’m more sad for the OG fans and the fact we can’t access the shops anymore 😭
Man I don't think any of splatoon 2 or 3 have topped my fondest memories of the first game, other than maybe when octo expansion triggered a multi year obsession. I'll always fondly look back at those young Aerospray MG days.

I don't have a Wii U anymore so I won't be able to play the last 2 hours (time of commenting), but knowing others are playing right now to relive memories makes me happy. Stay fresh everyone!
Though splat one is technically my 1st game I don't have an insane amount of nostalgia over it, splatoon 3 is the only one I have played when it was getting updates and the one I spent the most time with, despite that I am really sad to see it go, all the broken abilities, the busted weapons and, the hackers who gave us more new content then the splat 3 developers did.
Unfortunately for me, I had no way of enjoying my final moments of Splatoon 1. That's because since 2021, my dad has stored my old Wii U in the ADU behind my house. This year my dad started renting out our ADU to people to use as a home, and when they announced the shutdown, there was someone using the ADU, and they had it until October. That meant my Wii U was totally inaccessible to me. Otherwise, I would've been playing Splatoon 1 practically every free second I got until the shutdown.
Even though I joined the Splatoon franchise during the Splatoon 2 era and like the start of octo expansion I feel people when they miss Splatoon 1. I played Splatoon 1 once and it was the hero mode at my cousins house yet I understand the people who joined in the Splatoon 1 era because its sad to see that you cant play with weapons that used to be in Splatoon 1 anymore and just the whole vibe of Splatoon 1. Jesus

It’ll prob be a while. It took 9 years since the release for one to be shut down, so splatoon 2 will prob be shut down in around two to four years.
Nintendo didn't intentionally just shut down Splatoon, they shut down all 3DS and Wii U servers at once
