    Thanks for this segment. I have ATT and HATE it... My service is often unwatchable. I call them, and they've "tweeked" something on there end, and the technician checks his instruments and says, "nothing wrong here," or he might say "you have too many devices connected, and they drag down the speed even if you're not using them". .... So I put everything on powerstrips, and only use one device in one part of the house at a time... Still have problems. Usable one day, and unusable the next....
    Keep giving us updates on this process. ATT absolutely sucks where I live, and they advertise in their store as being the best... In our office we pay for the fastest speed possible from Comcast. That's about 89 MBPS most of the time... ATT... lucky if we get 10 MBPS.

      ATT is all we can get where I live. SC (apparently armpit of the East) We get maybe if we're super lucky 15 or 16mbs! Stinks.....

      @lisaboban 2 года назад

      You know, I had the same problem with ATT. It took me pitching a fit and escalating the call to a manager to get them to send out a technician. The key here is when they tell you your problem is fixed because it looks good now, tell them you don't consider it fixed. Don't let them close the ticket. Take screen shots if needed to prove the problem persists. My case took 5 calls and 6 days, but eventually they found the problem out on the switching station. Works great now until the next time...

    You didn’t mention “prioritizing” the streaming device within your wi-fi settings, where possible. (Though you did mention that in yesterday’s daily show, with regard to mesh networks.) And the other highly recommended fix ... plug into the LAN instead of using wi-fi, where that is an option. (Hard wire the device.)

    The one thing that made the biggest difference when it came to buffering was replacing my ethernet cords. I had been using cords that had either been given to me by the internet service provider or cords that had just been in a box that I've had for years probably also provided by the internet provider.
    When I upgraded those cords through Amazon it was a substantial improvement.
    even on my fire TV that is used with Wi-Fi I replaced the cord to plug the fire TV box into the television and it made a big difference.
    so I guess the heart of my messages if people are having problems they might want to replace their cords.

    Keep your WiFi Router off of the Channels used by your neighbors. Use the WiFi Analyzer APP on an Android Phone or iPHONE. Do a Channel Audit and make sure your network operates on it's OWN channel. Away from the Neighbors.

    I have a new amazon fire cube hooked up to the ethernet. It buffers occasionally. When it does, I unplug the power cord from it for 2-5 minutes. So far that has solved the problem every time.

    Keeping the router away some distance from 2.4Ghz cordless phones (POTS) and Microwave ovens might help too. I personally use CAT5 ethernet cables for streamers instead of Wifi. Ethernet cables just plain work better than wifi for streamers, period. But cables might not be an option for dongle streamers like FireTV sticks (there are ethernet adapters for some firesticks though)

    If you have cable based internet make sure that all the coax cable connections are tight. Mine on the modem was just a little loose, normally I wouldn't think that little tiny bit would make such a difference. I tightened it and HUGE difference!

    A month of pain and and work with my internet system, finally got my system working. I am a two tv person, one computer house. 500 mbps internet, Linksys mesh system that accommodates the 500 mbps speed, new ethernet cable that works with that speed, the modem and router close to the tv. I have the two wireless settings 2.4 ghz and 5.o ghz. I have roku for streaming and use RUclips TV. Everything is set up the way it should be, but. I literally get a jack hammering from somewhere (and yes, it is that loud) from my TV. Or, when I reset after buffering I lose sound. Any thoughts on that? Is it the Roku? Or, You Tube TV?

    I have century link fiber 1000/1000 and yes it tests at those speeds. When I use xfinity stream app and airplay from an iPhone 12 or iPad watching regular live tv programs I have no issues, but when I change over to a movie it continuously freezes every 3-5 seconds. My Wi-Fi device is an eero device that is centrally located no devices interfering and approximately 7’ away. Throwing out the window slow provider, weak Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi placement. All devices are up to date and plugged into power when trying to stream. Again the only time it buffers is when watching movies and not tv. I’m thinking resolution of the video I’m trying to watch is too much for the tv and it can’t keep up but have no way to change that on the tv, any suggestions I’d be interested in figuring this one out

    Currently, my parents have a Roku device that is connected directly/wired to a wifi extender (netgear) thats connected via/wifi to a Verizon 1gb FIOS Gateway. It still buffers. If I have ethernet ports in the house I can directly/wired connect to it with the Roku Ultra, the problem there is that the ethernet port on the Roku is only 10/100, which defeats the connection to a 1gb router. Is there a way to connect the Roku with a 1gb ethernet adapter?

    How to avoid buffering - always use ethernet!! Never ever use WIFI for steaming television if you can help it. Extenders/mesh nodes/multiple WIFI channels should be used for other devices. My 25 up 5 down comcast from years ago didn’t buffer on wired. The 1 gig fiber I have now is nearly identical in performance - excluding the initial load (it’s almost instant instead of 7 second delay).
    If you don’t want to go through the trouble of deploying ethernet through the whole house, you can get power line ethernet adapter(s). My old setup was router -> power line ethernet 1 --> power line ethernet 2 on other side of the house --> gigabit switch -> ethernet to everything else (TV, playstation, roku, smart tv, etc).
    Footnote: amazon sells ethernet adapters for Fire TV if needed.

  • @MrNorcal81
    @MrNorcal81 4 года назад

    This is the all too typical answer. My Roku Ultra has significant buffering issues on RUclips. This is a well known issue. I have 1GB internet speed and my Ultra is hard wired into my Xfinity Gateway which usually means it will be getting around 920+ Mbps. My Amazon Firestick and Nvidia Shield TV tube can have very brief RUclips buffering but it clears up quickly. The Shield is also hard wired but the Firestick connects via the 5Ghz WiFi band. The major buffering issue is pretty much exclusive to the Roku Ultra. There is a new Ultra coming out on October 15th that will be Dolby Vision enabled (about time) but whether the RUclips issue will be resolved is an open question.

    I hope I'm isolated or it cost you $$
    On topic, I'm on spectrum and have horrible distortion on their app, I'm forced to use individual provider apps more and more. One channel in particular is always plagued by less than 480 quality pixelated. I think that one is on purpose by now..
    Spectrum is ALWAYS on top at downdetector with internet problems. I'm switching the second we get alternative

    Great info! I've tried what you suggested without results. I currently have AT&T Fiber with speeds just under 400 MB up and down. Using a second generation Firestick I get constant, unwatchable buffering specifically while watching Fox News Channel and Hallmark. Other channels seem to be fine. I can record shows on these channels to cloud DVR and watch later just fine. I do have numerous devices on my network. 3 Nest cameras, 1 Ring doorbell, tablets, phones, Amazon echos, etc. Any additional ideas? Is there a way to see the bandwidth a specific device is using?
