The a7c is 1000% still worth it. I've owned it for almost 2 years now. Shot around 15,000 pictures on it and it still amazes me how great of a camera this is. Wishing it had more dials but that's what I have my a7R for. Pictures look great and videos look great.
Hi! I am a Nikon user, but I am considering changing to Sony, and the A7C would be great for traveling light. I have one question though, can it record GPS infos in the photos? With Nikon, I use their app on my phone, does Sony have a similar app or other solution?
All the good stuff aside, I just want to mention how nice it is to listen to you. You make everything sound so easy and you are so personable ! Keep it up for us, please
It's literally the only camera offering its particular feature set in that form factor. Not only worth it, but the only option too. Sony bodies start relevant long term for sure. I bought an A7Rii to supplement my A7c. May have came out in 2015, but it's holding up just fine shooting street in Manhattan.
As someone who loved the a7rii 5 years ago, I think so! My Ricoh is too limited, but I didn’t want a massive Sony full frame camera. This camera seems like the perfect in between.
I love watching your videos, even tho I already have A7C I just watch your videos because I like your content. And your background as comedian definitely helps
All camera’s are worth it no matter how long it’s been out. People still adore vintage camera’s. I still love my XT3 even though Fuji have released 3 camera’s since, doesn’t make my Fuji any less relevant. The XT2 is still an awesome camera. The Lumix GH4 and GH5 are still great camera’s.
Wish Sony would firmware update the camera to have active stabilization and 10-bit recording. Hell, I’d pay for a firmware update like that. Kind of like how early adopters of the Canon 5D IV had to pay $100 to get CLOG 3 in their cameras. The fact that you’ll have to get an entirely new camera to acquire features that are clearly software based annoys me to no end. That being said, the A7c is definitely a cool pocket sized camera. I think I’ve come to the realization I am not buying anymore cameras from Canon or Sony unless it has the new articulating screen that came with the Sony A7r V. I nearly got that camera just for that alone, but decided to hold off until something more optimized for video arrives. I think the best camera to get right now is either the Sony a7 IV or the R6 mark II. Fun video btw.
Just picked one up off B&H with the 28-60mm kit lens. This will be my first camera. Super excited with my choice. Appreciate you putting this video out & easing the decision!
My hero cam is still the A7C, and I think it is an insane value for what I use it for. With the tiny size/weight, along with the excellent low light, and let's not forget Catalyst Browes. There are some drawbacks to it, such as the poor IBIS, but ultimately, one of the best cameras for the money.
thanks for the great vid mark. i just bought one and it's a great camera. although i hope it gets an upgrade with 10-bit or maybe 12-bit recording and up-to-date specs just like the a7iv or a7rv would make it the absolute best compact travel or minimalist full frame camera. however the current a7c is no inferior to most other cameras rn and it is better than a7iii which has produced so much amazing content online for many many people out there so that's an example for comparison.
Great video, I literally just bought the camera today and then came home and saw this video. But whats even better than the video is your personality 😄 I had to sub
Thank you! That was helpful! I've started a RUclips channel and filming on the rooftop with my iPhone 14Pro. It doesn't matter which time of the day I have - something is always wrong with contrast and exposure 😔 I am totally not happy with my video quality. So determined buying a camera and appreciate info you provided!
Don’t get the fuss about the missing front wheel. If you have a proper prime lens with an aperture ring (like the 20mm f1.8G lens) the problem is solved. If you’re the kind of person to only shoot with the kit lens, then you don’t need the wheel anyway 😅. You have the aperture on the lens, the shutter speed on the back wheel and the ISO on the center wheel. Then, reprogram the movie button to something else, you don’t really need it to start recording. And if you have the Sony G lenses you also get an extra custom button on it. This, plus the extra memory recall button will solve most of your grievances when comparing the custom buttons with the AIII.
Nice to know, since I'm considering the A7c now. Here in Norway the A7cii costs almost $ 2.900,- but one can get the mark 1 for $ 1.300 - 1.400,- almost new. Half the price. And I will use it for photography, not for video, so don't care much about the 10 bit stuff. Setting up the camera's buttons to get a proper handling is important.
I hear a lot of people say you shouldn’t record in slog on this camera due to the 8bit, but I’ve recorded quite a few videos in slog 3 and used a phantom lut with great results.
If you have your lighting done well - you can use slog3 at times. And the phantom luts are very forgiving as well. In fact - I really should do a whole video on this. Thanks for the suggestion!!
Nice job as usual man! Yes, still rocking an a7C here. Being a bit the minimalist, I will not go back to collecting camera bodies. The a7C has been so great, and I've somehow become emotionally attached (yes, I'm a weirdo). After my last travel adventure I found myself using Topaz to upres my slow-mo to match my 4K, so truth be told the eyes have been on an FX30. I will miss the EVF (yes, on your recommendation I'd get the little doo-dad to put on the LCD).

I love my A7C. I own many cameras, A7C is the cheapest of all and yet it’s the one I use the most. I traveled around the world with it and only three lenses, Tamron 17-28, Tamron 28-200 and Sony 35mm GM. I don’t shoot video with it though, that job belongs to Insta360 RS ONE.
Hi Sir! First of all I want to mention that You are my favorite photo/camera/tech RUclipsr! Really! I was using Canon m50 as my first piece of equipement for YT game but wanted to go higher with pro quality. A7SIII is still my dream gear(maybe someday will have the money to achieve that) but thanks to You I ordered A7C two days ago. It should arrive tomorrow and I can't wait for it! I do mostly plastic models/toys build videography and some photos of my works and I really hope A7C will get me to the next level with that. Thank you and keep doin what ya doin! You are perfect!🍻🍻🍻

I’m deciding between ZVe10 or A7C right now for my product reviews that focus only on the product being held in front of the camera. Catalyst browse doesn't allow batch processing, so if you come back with 30 clips you have to sit there and do them one by one, or sub to Sony for $150 a year.
It's a great camera and almost everything is OK with it( no active stabilizer is so silly though) But it has a very big problem! Even with the 200$ off it is still so expensive for what it is! If it was 1300$ it could be sold like hot cakes
Great review and completely agree. I used to have a7r3, a7riv, a7c, and now selling Sony rx1 and Nikon z6 with lenses because i have bought yesterday a7c again. For me it is the best camera due to its small size and universality. Combined with a small kit lens I can carry it with me every day. Other cameras I owned were left at home. In the future the only camera I will consider will be a7c2 or similar small one. I don't mind smaller vf. Most important for me is small size, articulating screen, excellent af and battery and limitless video recording. These are the reasons why a7c is much better camera for me than a73.
For sure it is. As long the camera still power up and able to click. It is still a good and decent piece of equipment. Basically only need newer camera body if you need that really quick af. For still or not blazing quick action any camera will do fine. I have been using the a7rii for 7 years. Still a banger. I did purchase the a7rv recently. That thing just af many times faster. But for still and taking photo in general. They are all ok.
This year we have an A7c II coming, so gonna wait for that. Also we're expecting a refresh of the aps-c lineup. So we have to wait and compare. You're going to live with it for a few years, so might as well wait for a few months and maybe catch a good deal on the curent lineup or upgrade to the shiny new. Also, FX30...
The hell with the A7C, I'm just here for the most handsome, important content creator on the inter-webs! Seriously Mark, I love your stuff heck, I'd watch/listen to you do a direct comparison of chapter 12.357, section C10, paragraph 3, of the US Federal Tax Code "vs." chapter 13.477, section D7, paragraph 4 (part ii) of the dictatorial Revenue Bylaws for the island of Taveuni.
A7c is good everywhere in video and photo. Fantastic pictures and very good 4k24 and 1080p60 and 1080p120. Reliable. Very solid camera. I will receive soon my gimbal zhiyun weebill 3s i ordered, the a7c is very good hybrid camera, sensor is very good in lowlight. I don’t use slog3. Hlg3 is good on a7c. For me the viewfinder and screen are ok however they should have put an anchor to add a eye cup removable and they should have make the grip deeper (a6700, fx3, fx30) with an body vertical extension like a7cR. But overall the camera is very good except in video stabilization, this is why i ordered a gimbal, especially my condition parkinson require me a stabilizer. Without it all my video will go into the trash as i shake too much.
Brilliant idea with this video Mark! I paid $1600 for my new A7C (not from the store) and it's worth every penny. One thing I don't like and miss very much is Active Stabilization. Also, although you praise Catalyst, I challenge you to do a test and see the sharpness at 100% zoom with Catalyst versus Active/Normal footage. I tested it (even at 1/600 and on tripod) and the clarity disappeared. This is why I stopped using the gyro to stabilize my footage. Please do the test and I await your opinion in a future video.
I did that exact video - and I found that with the proper settings you really don’t lose much at all. Check it out here ruclips.net/video/39XSVW_X_PY/видео.html
I find the cropping 10% in normal 4k viewing I can’t see any difference in things like RUclips. But of course if you can see the difference - then avoid it for sure
I have the a6400 but as I am more of a casual photographer, i'd prefer to have a compact option I have being considerign this one as an upgrade but hopefully we can get something better, Hopefully a compact one with more megapixel so that I don't loose that many detail with my current lenses on it's aps-c mode.
Just got it new for 1450€ and 200€ Sony Cashback, so 1250€. Still waiting for it to arrive but im so hyped for it. Should be a huge upgrade from my A6000
At this point, If small form factor isn't something you are looking for, I'd recommend the Canon R8 or for a few more bucks the lumix S5 II. both of those options are way better cameras if you are looking at the price of new and not used bodies.
I was thinking to get the A7III as a mirrorless upgrade from my DSLR, but the A7C has a lot more to offer with almost the same specs as the A7III. Final decision, A7C. 😁
LOVE THE VIDEO! Question, how is the IBIS just OK when you were talking about how great the camera is when recording footage as if it's already on a gimbal? Hopefully my question makes sense. I'm somewhat new to cameras and am looking to purchase a high quality camera for filming cars and car rolling shots. THX!
the IBIS is different from the “gimbal-like thing”. you get that gimbal like footage if you run your file through a program called catalyst browse. this program will crop the footage a little and give you smooth footage based on gyro data recorded by the camera. most cameras do not have this option. only the newer Sony’s and some Blackmagic. if you do not use this program, and just used the cameras’ actual IBIS, it would be shakey Make Sense?
I LOVE my A7C, but there is no way it's worth the 2 grand asking price right now, when the A7C MkII releases with all the A7Rv computational AF goodies sure... BUT- You can get one used or on sale for $1500USD and below, and that's 100% worth it for the ultra compact size, pair it with one of Sony's new pancake primes (or the Zeiss 35mm 2.8 for 200 bucks or below off ebay) and you've got a beautiful tiny take-anywhere full frame monster.
Thanks again for all your entertaining and informative videos. I am real close to jumping on this camera, but I read that I can not turn off the electronic shutter like on the Sony a7iv. I do a little of everything including photo/video on hikes as well as some sport photography & video for my running website/YT channel. Is not being about to turn off electronic shutter an issue for the sports and is it more of an issue for the photography or the video recording? I really appreciate your input. Thanks!!!
You can definitely use the A7C with mechanical shutter. You don't need to use the electronic. What you read is about the first electronic first curtain shutter which is just something the camera uses to reduce the lag of the shutter firing. You can still use the mechanical shutter as normal.
The lcd flip out screen of the camera is what you’re seeing. The FX30 was the same. I would have nothing to gain by putting lights around and lying to my audience.
As long as you're not in lowlight, the a6700 would give you great results. Otherwise, The A7SIII has the best 4k120 and an EVF for pics but the pics will be 12mp.
Excellent video Mark. Straight to the point and honesty going through both pros and cons about the product you're promoting I'm still stuck between the A7C and FX30 though. A7C for the flip out screen over the A7III which is stuck with a Flippy screen... and FX30 which has both flippy screen and dual card slots though it lacks photography features. Why does Sony make this decision so difficult!? LOL I'm thinking of paying the extra money and going for the FX30, sacrificing photo features but I'm not sure if I would regret it. I do want to have the ability to take decent photographs, but I'm not sure if the difference in photo quality is going to be very significant compared to the A7C. Going for the A7C would solve this issue, but if I were to do some paid projects with just a single card slot, that'll be bad as well. If only the FX30 came with the same photography features as the A7C, it would've been perfect for me. I'm not sure anymore, I want to go with Sony because of their wide variety of 3rd party lenses, but choosing their camera bodies based off my budget is a pain.
the A7C will be great for that, no overheating issues, just set the internal temp to high and out on a tripod with the screen open and it will go for hours and hours
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis wooow I bought an alpha 6700. It heats up a lot and is not suitable for long videos. I want to sell it and buy an a7c. what is your opinion?
the A7C will last longer for sure. but make sure you try the a6700 with screen open, on a tripod with internal temp set to high. there is also a fan from ulanzi that works great for long record times
In A7c I dislike pretty soft 1080p (in super 35 mode even worse) and strong rolling shutter in 4k 24-25p, but in 4k 30p it has significant 1.3 crop. Also auto WB in artificial light shifts to some pink-magenta tint.. In my opinion ZV-1 is more travel-friendly option - it is lighter and smaller with buit in universal 24-70mm f1.8-2.8 zoom lens with better overall stabilization.
I currently have a canon 5D mark three. I usually just shoot portrait photography of my own children. my 12-year-old recently started playing basketball, and I have been using a 70 to 200 mm lens to record video and photos. I’m noticing that others that are using a mirror camera and a camera that’s newer than mine have better results for a Photos light wise. Would this camera be good for shooting basketball photos and video inside? Or is there one you recommend? My budget is $2500 or less for a camera.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis the A7R5 sorted the last problems I had with Sony cameras, I like to show clients the back of the camera, plus Sonys AWB was never as good as Nikons, plus I believe the continuous metering is much better as well 👍
hey Mark.. amazing video as always! But can you please recommend me a camera or cameras that have better IBIS since you mentioned it's not the best in sony a7c?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you hopefully soon. $1,800 is out of line lol. Maybe we get something at CES. I read an article that said January is a good time for camera deals so maybe it’ll go right back on sale I’m hoping.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Interesting I was actually looking for a comparison between A7C and A7CII. I'm considering getting an older model for "cheap" especially that 8 bit vs 10 bit, I'm not sure I should care because from what I've seen I like HLG3 pp and I'm not a fan of S-LOGs.(or maybe that was just bad color grading) I am also primarily a photographer and not a videographer so...

I’m glad I’ll have one viewer for my upcoming Federal Tax Code RUclips channel
Damn, I wish I had a subscriber like you! Ha ha.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yeah not much difference in your test but for me it was too much
I find the cropping 10% in normal 4k viewing I can’t see any difference in things like RUclips. But of course if you can see the difference - then avoid it for sure
The last bit had me cracking up.
🤣
Yup!!
100%
Agreed it's a great camera, but I'm waiting for the second version of it. Hopefully early part of 2023.
I have the a6400 but as I am more of a casual photographer, i'd prefer to have a compact option I have being considerign this one as an upgrade but hopefully we can get something better, Hopefully a compact one with more megapixel so that I don't loose that many detail with my current lenses on it's aps-c mode.
Why not wait for the a7c mk3?
It is coming first half of this year featuring 33 megapixel sensor I hope Sony gives us 4K 60p without crop that would a dream come true
@@Dhuxul9 there is a new can coming on 29/30 march hope its a7c 2
@@shutterrstories that one is a ZV camera
hahaha the ending was amazing lol
Are you in any way related to Christopher Nolan? You look so much like him lol. Even the hairstyle. Great video btw
he’s my son!! (jk)
Just got it new for 1450€ and 200€ Sony Cashback, so 1250€. Still waiting for it to arrive but im so hyped for it. Should be a huge upgrade from my A6000
nice!!
Awesome video!
At this point, If small form factor isn't something you are looking for, I'd recommend the Canon R8 or for a few more bucks the lumix S5 II. both of those options are way better cameras if you are looking at the price of new and not used bodies.
The lens ecosystem is still a lot better with Sony, but I agree that those cameras have much better video specs.
@Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis yeah it shocks me that canon lens system is still closed off to third parties. At least lumix has some sigma offerings 😄
I was thinking to get the A7III as a mirrorless upgrade from my DSLR, but the A7C has a lot more to offer with almost the same specs as the A7III. Final decision, A7C. 😁
The rumour mill is all a buzz about a new A7C - hopefully we will know soon.
Yo Mark, in fact, I have replaced my Dougie Zv-e10 with the a7c for the low light reasons 🤗
Thanks for nice videos!^_^
I love this camera... even tho' I don't own it, or have money for it, or have a need for it... but I did enjoy the video.
don’t need it but still watched the video - I appreciate that!! best kind of person 😀
Camera Crisis Comedy,Mark always trusted and always make us laugh
😀👍
How about the newly issued A6700. It's in the same price range. I still can't decide which to buy at this point. Thanks for a great video!
It's an interesting question for sure. I'm going to do a video about it.
If it had 4k 240fps… it would be the ultimate camera… I don’t have ANY envy of the FX3 or a7Siii. Small and it’s a freaking workhorse 👌🏻
Mark's other job is stunt double for Jim Carrey. Another wonderful, enjoyable video.
🤣
Nice samples 👀
That 24mm sings.
Did you correct the outdoor talking head footage or just straight out of camera?
I did everything with the cine 2 profile and the LeemingLUT
I LOVE my A7C, but there is no way it's worth the 2 grand asking price right now, when the A7C MkII releases with all the A7Rv computational AF goodies sure...
BUT- You can get one used or on sale for $1500USD and below, and that's 100% worth it for the ultra compact size, pair it with one of Sony's new pancake primes (or the Zeiss 35mm 2.8 for 200 bucks or below off ebay) and you've got a beautiful tiny take-anywhere full frame monster.
right now it's sell for $1600 brand new - so it's a pretty good deal
Hy Mark, the price of the lenses is holding me back !
What is the solition?
Look at Viltrox, Sigma and Tamron Lenses - some very affordable options that are excellent quality
I own it and miss my G9 4k 60p... Probably will switch back to mft...Once your eyes are used to 60p its hard to go back.
What would you choose between a6700 and a7c ?
Hi Mark, thank you for a good video, can you do please a review of Canon EOS RP, because I am thinking about buying this camera. Thanks :)
the Canon RP is great for photos, but it’s not a great video camera
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Why? Because of limitation in 4k? :)
yes - the autofocus in 4k and the crop are problems for sure
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Right, thank you, but I am planning to shot in 1080p60 ;)
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis btw 4k in sony a7c also isn't perfect, yes it is better than in Canon RP but is it worth additional 600$? 🤔
At 4’16” the low light test , the A7c picture showed a reflective light spot on his eye, does it indicates he was using a fill in light?
The lcd flip out screen of the camera is what you’re seeing. The FX30 was the same. I would have nothing to gain by putting lights around and lying to my audience.
Hi Mark
Quick question : If I want a GOOD Sony body for wildlife (birds) and for buttery-smooth slomo video footage ....
What should I get ?
I'm not sure anymore, I want to go with Sony because of their wide variety of 3rd party lenses, but choosing their camera bodies based off my budget is a pain.
the fx30 will be fine for photos as long as you aren’t taking photos of fast moving subjects and don’t mind taking one photo at a time
Thank youuu
great video.
Is the Sony a7c camera suitable for recording long-term videos? For example, two hours of uninterrupted record?
Doesn't it heat up?
the A7C will be great for that, no overheating issues, just set the internal temp to high and out on a tripod with the screen open and it will go for hours and hours
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis wooow
I bought an alpha 6700.
Can A7C compete with the video Quality of A7 iv? I'm looking for butter smooth Bokeh effect of A7 iv in a bit less bucks!!
In A7c I dislike pretty soft 1080p (in super 35 mode even worse) and strong rolling shutter in 4k 24-25p, but in 4k 30p it has significant 1.3 crop. Also auto WB in artificial light shifts to some pink-magenta tint..
In my opinion ZV-1 is more travel-friendly option - it is lighter and smaller with buit in universal 24-70mm f1.8-2.8 zoom lens with better overall stabilization.
the zv1 is great for travel - absolutely
Is there a camera that the 1080p doesn’t look as bad? I would have someone else film for me and not looking for 4k all the time really
@@jadenburnz ZV-E1, A7SIII, FX-3.
Please review canon eos rp or compare anything mirrorless with canon rp🙏..thank you😊
A7c is a good camera but in my opinion a6700 can be a better camera because of everything
I have the a7c love it, small easy to use. But now with the a7c ii is out I wonder if its worth to upgrade?... I do mostly take photos...
If you take mostly photos - I would say stick with your trusty A7C - unless you are having trouble getting in focus shots like wildlife
Best camera in this price range along with Panasonic s5
the s5 is amazing too
Hi Mark, does the A7C lose eye autofocus and/or crop in 4k 30fps when using over HDMI for streaming?
Dude … I was searching in RUclips about a7c if is worth it and then your video appears !!
haha. well it’s on sale this week - so I wanted to get this out there for people like yourself thinking about it!!
Dude, his videos have been popping up for every search. I’ve been doing these past couple days haha GG
Is there a big difference to shoot with no picture profile or like cine4 ?
This is the next Sony camera I reckon will get the tilt/swivel screen - and hopefully the improved AWB and metering
that would be great
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis the A7R5 sorted the last problems I had with Sony cameras, I like to show clients the back of the camera, plus Sonys AWB was never as good as Nikons, plus I believe the continuous metering is much better as well 👍
agreed to everything you said
Hi. Any chance you'll do a Lumix G90 test?? Thanks.
I do love Panasonic - but it's not easy to get in. Basically - an amazing camera that cannot autofocus.
Will this last at least 4 hours and not over heat for my streamer Nmplol ?
hey Mark.. amazing video as always! But can you please recommend me a camera or cameras that have better IBIS since you mentioned it's not the best in sony a7c?
The Canon R7 has good IBIS
@Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis are there any cameras with the best IBIS?
Dang, maybe I should get this instead of the ZVE10
Full frame at a good price
I'm waiting for new model, or go somewhere else, this one is 2yr old now. Need update, better menu etc. Not worth to buy now imho.
What would you suggest
whatever reason..its still fullframe..done
How is for those who wear glasses, the viewfinder looks small?
it is small and uncomfortable for a lot of people
Wowww it just went up by $300..
How often do these go on sale? Do you know
that was a holiday sale. the A7C and a7iii will probably go on sale a couple more times this year.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you hopefully soon. $1,800 is out of line lol. Maybe we get something at CES. I read an article that said January is a good time for camera deals so maybe it’ll go right back on sale I’m hoping.
A7III still awesome
It absolutely is
How about now that the mark 2 just released?
I did some vids on it if you want to check them out
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Interesting I was actually looking for a comparison between A7C and A7CII.
I'm considering getting an older model for "cheap" especially that 8 bit vs 10 bit, I'm not sure I should care because from what I've seen I like HLG3 pp and I'm not a fan of S-LOGs.(or maybe that was just bad color grading)
I am also primarily a photographer and not a videographer so...
No!!!! It’s 8-bit without active stab’
It's true - if you want active stab and 10-bit - gotta look elsewhere
A7c 1400$ vs A7iv 2100$, which one is a better buy in your opinion 😅😜
that is tough - but the A7IV is such a great camera if the budget is there and 2100 is a good price. I would do a7iv.
