Thanks Mary for trying this! My heat mat does not have a temp gauge. I see some differences I may try to test in a video soon from yours to mine. My tray was way bigger than yours and I thing the shape has something to do with it as well, (granted I had a successful bloom on it before a few months ago though...weird). I used the fast cure 3x and on the 4th try I used the epoxy with a heat gun to keep the viscosity down, still no luck. I did notice on your tray that the middle as well didn't pull in like the sides did. Kind of the same thing mine did but mine was on a larger scale. At least you didn't waste your resin LOL! Yours came out really nice, thanks for trying!!

@@melaber77 I love her channel & watch loyally. What made me take pause was the suggestion to use a thermal camera time lapse!
Don’t think that’s been thought of b4 or done yet on YT. I think it would be a really interesting experiment. Especially for the exact scenario Michelle ran into with her tray. I thought possibly it was the large surface area making the resin cure at different temps as it cures from outside edge to inside & that she prefers to pour shallow blooms, causing it to take longer to cure. Wonder if it throws off the curing process in such a large area?
Loved ur suggestion Cz that would really get into the niddy gritty of what’s happening. I’m not super tech savy so I don’t know if there’s a thermal camera that does time lapse or not. GR8 Idea!

They definitely have those cameras that you can attach to your phone and use while recording, but they are costly, depending on the model they start at $150 and go up from there.

I haven’t watched Michelle’s tray videos yet, I’ll have to go check them out. I watched her Carousel and pigment paste video last night, that turned out really cute. Julie Cutts tried to do a bloom in her large clock mold a while ago, she attempted it a few times. I’m guessing Michelle had the same issue Julie did.. the resin stopped blooming from about mid to center point? I think you’re right about the heat. Great job figuring that out Mary!❤

MY only concern is that the shape of the rectangular mold might be an issue... since the circular molds the resin will pull in equally from the entire outer edge, whereas the rectangular molds will cause the resin to pull in unequally (and will take longer from the sides than from top and bottom). I hope I'm making sense. LOL. Regardless, I love this experiment and have also been pondering this issue since watching Michelle's attempts!!

    • @lil.miscellaneous

Michelle, of @glitznglitterbymichelle , used a large rectangular tray, rather than a square or circle.
I do know EVERY rectangle shape used for blooms does much the same really weird thing with any bloom, even on the small trinket trays. It's just that on large rect. mold shapes, the effect is greatly exaggerated.
I believe SHAPE is the key. I truly do not think it has very much to do with consistent heat, unless the various areas are wildly different from each other.
    * There IS a possible solution I thought of while watching. I noticed that square shapes will provide a consistent bloom, just as do round, or any symmetrical shape. Therefore, if the two short sides of any rectangle were blocked off with something (clay?) to create a SQUARE (or even a round) shape inside the rectangle where the bloom was to be created (top, bottom, or middle), the results should be a perfect bloom.
I, too, watched her 3 attempts feeling so bad for her, that nothing worked!

I absolutely agree with the consistent heat. Heat seems to be a key to any bloom. However, do you think it could have something to do with the square mold Michelle was using also? I've been told that resin acts like a "pond with bulkheads" while it's curing. So do you think there could be something to your mold being round as well? BTW, it turned out very nice! I love your results here but I want to be totally honest with you and say that I don’t think this is a proper way to confirm/prove whether Michelle’s pour was down to heat control or not, simply for 2 reasons: a) the shape of your mould was entirely different, b) you poured your colours in a different shape to the way Michelle did. I think that temperature was definitely part of the reason for the lack of bloom for Michelle but also the fact that the rectangular shape she used meant that the resin from the left and right sides had further to travel to bloom than the resin at the top and bottom of the shape which meant that the work time for the different areas is also different.
I definitely think that the amount of white that Michelle uses without measuring the amount of resin, makes all the difference in terms of the blobs of white that drop through but again that’s all about the temperature/thickness of the resin at the time of piping.
Just to be clear, I’m not criticising your work in any way because it’s beautiful but I think there’s more to be figured out by doing this experiment again using the same shape as Michelle and also the same pattern she used to pour the colours. When you think what scientists do to test theories, they have to be the same to get statistical analysis but also, it’s an entirely different experiment if you use a round shape or a rectangle! Each area of resin has exactly the same distance to travel in a circle but in a rectangle it’s different. 😊

    • @resinmeup
      @resinmeup  27 дней назад +1

I appreciate your feedback, but to be fair, in the beginning of the video I did mention that this was an experiment.
There are other artists that are struggling with the same issue but in large round molds as well, that's my bad, I should have explained that better in my video. I did mention that I didn't have a rectangle mold, but I am ordering one.
As far as the piping goes, I honestly don't think that makes any difference on the design as much as it does on the consistent lines laid down, but I will test it all when I get the mold. I do agree that the more of the white pigment paste you use, the higher your chances are for it just dropping straight to the bottom and adding mica powder to it just adds to the heaviness. I do agree there is much to be determined on this mystery, but at this point, I haven't heard a word from her, so don't know if I will even pursue it any further, I was hoping we could put our thoughts together on it and possibly come up with a solution. Again thank you for your feed back I do appreciate it, and no criticism was taken.🤗🥰
