Most ballets, I have seen, the women were front and center and the men had a very limited role. It was great to see the pure athleticism and amazing male dancers.

I cannot fathom the amount of strength it would take to 1 jump atop man’s shoulders perfectly in position and not fall off and 2 jump of your curled toes as if you are wearing pointe shoes. Incredible work.

Well... I'm not sure about that, in my ballet classes the teacher told me "smile, they don't have to know that it hurt you. You must look natural and happy for the photos"
I understand they can be in pain, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t happy. You can see when they all lock arms and start going in the circle that there are some that are laughing because it’s a crazy, weird thing for the human body to do. That’s what I’m saying :) But yes, I do realize this is a hard routine and it is mentally and physically exhausting. I also realize they smile to please the audience and that most of their smiles throughout are fake, however they are finding joy in it, you can see it through the “fake” when they actually do show a true emotion. So, that goes to say, I’m not smiling at their fake smiles, but the actual joy they have when they actually show it :)
Its called acting. I don't doubt they're glad to be the few lucky ones to pursue dream career but that doesn't mean they're extatic every second of every rehearsal.
I used to do this type of dancing at a professional ballet academy and it is SO much fun. Just the purest joy, like you experienced as a kid. I always say that if we bring back community dancing (that's what this is, traditional Eastern European folklore dance) and/or singing, there would be peace on earth.

i do figure skating, but i must agree, ballet is probably one of the hardest thing to do. i’m sure they work countless hours to be this phenomenal!
