  • Oona and Gage Brown are Team USA Ice Dancers. We filmed their 2020-21 Free Dance in Bryant Park's Winter Village ice rink at 6:45 in the morning over the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you to their coach Joel Dear for helping to organize. And a special thank you to all of our supporters on Patreon who make it possible for us to afford ice in one of prettiest outdoor rinks in New York City. / oniceperspectives

    Thank you so much for watching and enjoying this video! It makes me so happy to see Oona and Gage's skating reaching a massively deserved audience. We filmed one more routine this day that I will be editing and posting soon, but in the meantime, do check out Oona and Gage Brown's GoFundMe page for their training season here: gf.me/u/zbu2q5. Even though many national and all international competitions have been cancelled this season, that hasn't stopped them from continuing to train, in the hopes they can qualify for Junior Worlds next year and possibly earn a spot at the Olympics one day. Again, that GoFunMe link is here! gf.me/u/zbu2q5

      They do know ahead of time... Or the good ones do
      - my brother-in-law is a cameraman he's done many olympics...I've known other people who have done sports in concerts
      They study the choreography ahead of time.
      But they also have automated multi-cameras which seamlessly looks like it's the same frame when it's not
      I've also been to those ice capades shows years ago - when a skater falls, they have them come out after the show and redo those sections of there choreography so when it goes on TV it looks perfect
      I'll tell you that I walked a NYC runway decades ago - you would never recognize me - I didn't... Don't ever rely on cameras as reality.
      there's probably multi-camera work going on here.

    • @ChaosAngel1331
      @ChaosAngel1331 3 года назад +91

      @@shy8311 I think it's mostly their coordination. It looks super easy but it is really difficult to be as fluid as they are here and not trip over your partners boots and stuff. The jumps aren't too complex but bear in mind he has to move smoothly while bearing her weight and do turns which puts a good amount of pressure on your leg. It's so easy to mess up jumps to and spins, the closer or farther away from the ground are very hard to do without slipping as you can fall if not done at the right angle and injure yourself. It's all the centre of balance thing to as you have to make it look good while skating which can get in the way if your being technical about jumps and timing, especially in doubles as timing jumps is a good portion of the marks. Being able to do all this with minimal mistakes is certainly national level skating. Some professionals struggle with this in their 20s and 30s in professional skating yet they were able to do it so well. I would love to do this but sadly had to quit due to injuries, very impressed at their work. Sorry for the rant though

      @@fe5018 Passion and Chemistry aren't solely romantic aspects. It's such a shame how that's the automatic default these days. That's another reason why I especially love this routine and this duo: they're fueled by a sense of intimacy that isn't often portrayed in skating. The vast majority of professional figure skating pairs always have this tinge of romantic and wondrous tension in their dynamic, their routines and their costumes, even if the relationship the skaters themselves share is completely platonic and/or professional. With this brother-sister team, we have a pair with a loving essence that almost nobody would mistake for romance, so they're not only delivering medal-worthy routines, they're flipping the stereotype upside down of romantic affection being the most prevalent affection, or the only kind of affection allowed, to be hinted at in the sport, or that the strength of sibling and familial love could never hold up to romantic love.

      First of all, you spelled 'everyone' wrong.
      Second, you can totally try. I've been in love with skating my whole life, but I think I only went less than a dozen times until three or four years ago. Because who doesn't wake up at 29 and think, "Actually, skating seems neat." I'll never get to the Olympics, but I've been improving slowly but surely. My limited funds means RUclips has been my coach for the most part (I highly recommend Coach Julia and Ice Coach Online as the two channels to consult for the basics and intermediate skills), but I'm starting jumps. Gettng the waltz jump down, about to start practicing a half flip... If you want to skate, totally go out and skate. Just don't wear rental skates, they're actually torture devices meant to weed out the weak. ....Don't source me on that.
      Also, ice dancing doesn't have a focus on jumps, but moreso on choregraphy. So if the thought of jumps and falling scares you, this is exactly the route you want to go!

    Everyone is talking about the figure skaters (which we should they were amazing!) but I think we should also appreciate the skills of the camera person. Their movements were so smooth it made us feel like we were there, in the moment dancing with them!! Imagine if the camera person outstayed on the sides and filmed from there or was jerky in their movements, the video would totally feel off! So thank you camera person for being such an amazing to be able to share this video with us all.

    I use to ice skater figure skate ⛸️ when I was little girl. I was in the trials for the Olympic trophie pre for winter olympic selection. I'm now 52 but I have never seen such grace and extrem beauty that you both have and your connection was seamless. You were so beautiful it brought me to tears. Never give up your hopes and dreams. May God always bless you.
