I am a 60 year old fart who grew up in Kentucky listening to Bill Munroe, Doc Watson, and all kinds of Bluegrass. It does my heart good to see young people like this play traditional instruments and sing beautiful harmonies
It’s been one year today since I lost my mom. Her house burned down a few months before her passing and so we lost all her photos. This song hits way to close to my heart 💔 “It's funny how I have to put it to rest And how [today] you’ve joined it”
Their ability to make a song so specific yet ubiquitous to any listener is mind blowing. I can go through each line and find a way to how it applies to my life and im sure you can apply it to yours in a different way. I love you guys and will continue to listen
This song calms me down so much "I remember crying over you, and I don't mean a couple of tears and I'm blue, I'm talking about collapsing and screaming at the moon".
Today at lunch, across the street from my house, the city was tearing down a house with a dozer like the one in this video. i sang this song while watching all the bricks and wood and glass being demolished.
This is the kind of music that gives you shivers, this is THE music that get you to transcend , I have never ever commented on youtube, I do that today, to say PLEASE keep your music pure , keep it for us the few who still close their eyes and really taste the words of harmony, just EPIC ..
All I can do is cry while listening. I don't know why, I guess its because everyone relates to music in their own way. Anyway thank you guys for doing what you do. Your music has helped me in so many ways.
My mom would play this on guitar every now and then and I didn’t stop immediately crying every time I heard it until I was maybe 13. I still can’t get all the way through with dry eyes.
"I remember crying over you. And I don't mean like a cupel of tears and I'm blue. Im talking about collapsing and screamin' at the moon. But Im a better man for having gone through it."
I love these smart, sincere words, melody, and the sincerity that Seth and Scott deliver it. Thank you guys!!! XXOXO You have enriched my life of music.
I remember when this video first came out. I was cruising through some avett playlists on youtube and saw this oldie... pulled it up and was like, DAMN, how long ago WAS this? almost seven years. Yeah, we're all getting old. It's inevitable.
Because RUclips doesn't let us up vote comments anymore, I just want to remind everyone that Link, from Rhett and Link, wrote a nice comment about this song.
I've always wondered if Rhett and Link liked the Avetts. I know they like the type of music they Avetts play and they are both NC boys like the Avetts and around the same age. That's really cool
This is my song. Thank you so much for creating such beautiful music. The part of collapsing is so true. I only felt like that one time when my wife and I almost didn't make it. It changed me for the better and we're stronger then ever. I just love you guys.
Here are some musicians getting what they deserve. Musicians that have real talent and real songwriting skills. They've worked hard for years to achieve the fame they have now. It kills me to see artists like Nicki Minaj getting fame for less than mediocre songs and talent. God bless The Avett Brothers.
Here's Something I shared with my two Boy always keep each other close cause Mom and Dad aren't going to be here forever. Don't let the Sun set on any troubles and thank God every night. Scott and Seth , I Pray that nothing happens to either of you so keep each otter close . I only Have one son now on earth and He's lost with out his brother , But I've got one in Heavan Amen ! He is my Beacon of light when my time comes , keep up the good work and Love ya Brothers ! Amen
The Avett Brothers are hands down the best songwriters of this decade! Their songs hold up to the test of time and will be as highly regarded as classics from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams.
3:32.... What do you think Scott is saying? This song reminds me of my childhood home. It's gone, trees cut to the ground. But the memories remain for ever!
Thanks! I agree. Me and my brother have debated this. I had originally thought he was saying, "change it" to Seth, as in get creative with the cords. Then My brother told me he thought Scott says "We can change it...." and that got me listening harder!
Ever think they're just two guys who like to play music? Why do so many people find it necessary to always make a a comparison or a criticism. It's obvious they enjoy themselves. Ultimately that's what matters. What someone looks like is irrelevant to me. That's why I wish I lived in an age before television and internet. I could listen to a song through a radio or on a record player and have no idea what those people looked like.
I think they should wrote the music the way they want to you know cause idk its just the way the wrote the songs. Im not trying to fight here or anything I just like the way they felt they should have wrote it
Anyone else feel as though these gentlemen tell your story? Everytime.
Those pasty legs, that dreamy melody... I'm hooked.

Hope your still kicking ❤
Damn fine banjo lead in there. This song knocks the socks off every time.

These 2 beautiful souls will never understand how much their music means to me.
This song calms me down so much "I remember crying over you, and I don't mean a couple of tears and I'm blue, I'm talking about collapsing and screaming at the moon".
Yep. It's nice to know that one of them has gone through that. heartbreak.

Call me crazy, but I think he could have found a more comfortable chair.

The only words I have for this is "quaint perfection ".
"Shut up". Yes. "Close my eyes". Check. "Feel the music". Aaaaaaaaah. Beautiful. I'm going to see them in concert for the first time in two weeks ! !

"I remember crying over you. And I don't mean like a cupel of tears and I'm blue. Im talking about collapsing and screamin' at the moon. But Im a better man for having gone through it."
One of my top ten Avett songs...
That is one hell of a banjo. Wow. This is beautiful.
I love these smart, sincere words, melody, and the sincerity that Seth and Scott deliver it.
Thank you guys!!! XXOXO You have enriched my life of music.

You guys speak to my soul !
Thank you doesn't even do it justice !!
Because RUclips doesn't let us up vote comments anymore, I just want to remind everyone that Link, from Rhett and Link, wrote a nice comment about this song.
What did he say?
@Next Gen. Illusions
He said something about never seeing two happier souls on a trackhoe.
I'll never rest until I find that comment.
+Jake Tomberlin I found it a while back, it's from the Rhett and Link channel no GMM
I've always wondered if Rhett and Link liked the Avetts. I know they like the type of music they Avetts play and they are both NC boys like the Avetts and around the same age. That's really cool
Beautiful sounds for raw recording!! Thank you!
Love everything you guys do -- thanks for the wonderful music. Much love.
NC has blessed the world with the Avett Bros
The most level scale ever is weighing how much I like the Avett bros melodies on one end and lyrics on the other.
The Avett Brothers are perfect and I love them
This is my song. Thank you so much for creating such beautiful music. The part of collapsing is so true. I only felt like that one time when my wife and I almost didn't make it. It changed me for the better and we're stronger then ever. I just love you guys.
I love that they don't even have to look at each other throughout the whole song. It's just so natural.
LOVE these guys! I can't believe they can sound this good just sitting on a backhoe in the woods.
This was right outside of Black Mountain NC!!! I Love It!!

Scott's hat and shorts combination is making my week right now.
These guys are amazing. I have every song i can find and love them all. Cant wait to see them at the greek this summer in LA!! but not the first time!
It just occurred to me that they're singing this song literary on top of a bulldozer in reference to the lyrics. Unbelievable.......
hard to be positive but im pretty sure thats not a bulldozer, i like the thought though
CSelH look closer, it's really a buldozer.
thundy08
no it is an excavator, not a bulldozer.
sorry it is definitely an excavator.
Aaaah this music just makes me want to punch myself in the soul. It is so beautiful and wrenches my heart over and over again. stoooooop!!

Here's Something I shared with my two Boy always keep each other close cause Mom and Dad aren't going to be here forever. Don't let the Sun set on any troubles and thank God every night. Music so pure. So beautiful.
that is by far the prettiest banjo ive ever heard.
Seriously. Why can't people just love the music and love each other for their common love of the Avetts??
I love these guys!

Beautiful songs against beautiful backgrounds, like this CAT excavator for example. Lovely!
I love subtle product placement...and the Avett Brothers!
The more I listen the more I am mesmerized! The muse is strong with you my young padawan!
The Avett Brothers are hands down the best songwriters of this decade! Their songs hold up to the test of time and will be as highly regarded as classics from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams.
Wow, I remember when this video was first uploaded...now it has been almost 6 years ago. Just as good today was it was when I first saw it.

Amazing

I can only aspire to be as good of a person as Scott and
Seth Avett..
Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3:32.... What do you think Scott is saying? This song reminds me of my childhood home. It's gone, trees cut to the ground. But the memories remain for ever!
He said "Things are changing"
Thanks! I agree. Me and my brother have debated this. I had originally thought he was saying, "change it" to Seth, as in get creative with the cords. Then My brother told me he thought Scott says "We can change it...." and that got me listening harder!
The banjo is for music what bacon is to food... It just makes everything better.
I sing this song to lull my nephew to sleep. It puts him right to sleep.
damn these guys are so talented
And that, my friend, is exactly what this whole music thing is about =).
I remember every girl's name. They all told me stories.
Absolutely no doubt about it!!!

"He's changin.... he's changin"
Ever think they're just two guys who like to play music? Why do so many people find it necessary to always make a a comparison or a criticism. It's obvious they enjoy themselves.
