Since a rifle has never been issued or boxed with a magazine bigger than a 30 rounder, I’d say it’s a higher capacity mag. Doesn’t make it anymore dangerous. At some point it passes the point of diminishing returns when it it comes to rifle manipulations.

I know this is an old comment. But in hindsight, you should probably just buy ammo considering you can get a cheap 3d printer and make your own magazines quite effectively. Also speaking as a former resident of commiefornia, I know for a fact standard size magazines limited to 10 rounds are extremely easy to convert back to standard capacity. It usually only takes a punch and for some magazines a new spring.
I have a PMAG 40, it’s nice to know there’s 10 extra rounds in there, and they’re super affordable. I’m thinking about making them my standard magazine, but they do suck while on the ground. I also love the maglink as well

The 40 rounder is perfect as you reload to double the firepower, fits in my kit and I have basically the same mobility as my 30 with a ranger plate / duct tape and paracord
I have Surefire 60 round mags and have put over 1,000 rounds through them and have had zero issues. They have been 100% reliable for me and highly recommend them. My only issue is the follower…especially it being Surefire. That’s my only complaint. If you can still find these out in the wild, I strongly recommend getting one!

Considering getting the Taran tactical extension baseplate since they add 6 more rounds per mag. Altogether that’s 92 + 1 in the chamber. 😂 and to those who bitch about the weight of that many rounds, I call it recoil mitigation

I just picked up 2-40 round Pmags yesterday. March of 2023. They came with the covers. I honestly never use them. I pop them off when I get any 3rd gen mag and throw them in a box.
I own 3 pmags one is a regular 30 round, one has the window in it so you can see the rounds. And I also just bought the pmag 40 and its awsome. But I do have to say the MFT mags are awsome aswell for less money
Ehh... MFT magazines aren't well known for their long term durability/reliability. Hey, you might have got lucky with yours, but quite a few others have had problems. You might want to stock up on PMAGs (including these 40 rounders) and Lancer magazines while you can. Lancers are top tier, PMAGs are excellent in 2nd place. Best of luck dude! 👍

They just work. I’d rather have 40 rounds that work than 60 or 100 that is a death jam-o-matic. I really wish they would make a windowed version of the 40.
That’s where that x-15 he keeps flashin’ comes in. Those pmag 40’s are about the most bang for your buck round count wise before you start getting crazy with the springs and possibility of jam-ups. Also, because they don’t hurt your wallet I will keep them loaded and coupled together at all times and only load an x-15 come range time or SHTF. That drum mag might be heavy but you can trust your life with it AND lay in the prone!

Here’s the deal. 40 pmag is just as reliable as the 30 pmag therefore it is better requiring less reloading. The 60 round stick mag is okay but reliability isn’t close to the pmag. Any drum mags suck for the most part especially the 100 rounder. 60 round drums are more reliable but still shit compared to traditional “stick” mags!

Had one, wouldn't even hold the rounds, if you dropped it 10 or so rounds would spew out of it, also had feed issues. Did I have an older generation, that has been remedied? Or maybe a lemon? Aren't regular USGI mags made from aluminum? I know Pmags are much more durable than them and the US military basically superseded the metal mags with Magpul mags. But I'm pretty sure that's because they are made of aluminum and not steel.

It’s January 2020. I don’t think Magpul 40 round magazines come with the snap on dust cover anymore. I think you have to buy those separate now.

If a 30 round mag holds 10 in 458 socom a 40 round mag must hold 3 to 5 more rounds i never thought of this till now

I've never had a Magpul mag have any real issues.
