I took the NEW Canon EOS R50 and its kit lens - the Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens - with me on a 2 week trip to Portugal. Enjoy the sample footage I got with this set-up! Everything was filmed in 4k at 24fps.

WOW, clicked on the video to see some R50 samples and ended up realizing how beautiful life is!
That's so sweet, thanks for sharing! :)
I spent whole week deciding and watching content to choose a camera for cinematic videography and photography. Finally I am decided now to get the R50 after seeing your video. Thank you for sharing how beautiful Portugal is. Saying hi from the Philippines ❤️
Wow, phenomenal editing and great footage. Honestly thats on par with any pro travel footage you see. Pretty incredible out of a kit lense.
Thank you! I really was surprised by what this camera & lens could do. Super fun!
This video is so soothing, i can watch this for hours on loop. Portugal is beautiful🍁
Thank you so much! And Portugal really is stunning :)
Wow! Your choice of shots and angles is really pleasing
Thank you so much, that's very kind! :)
i was here for the lens quality but fell in love with the content
That is the sweetest thing! Thank you! :)
I'm thinking about buying one. It looks really cute and powerful. Like a mini DSLR. Yeah! You read correctly. That little body is so cute. Very portable and less intimidating to carry around in public.
It's very true! The body and lens are incredibly compact and cute. It makes it much easier to travel with!
alright alright... ill buy myself the r50 for Christmas. This footage is amazing!
Hah! I hope you did! And thank you so much! :)
FINALLY someone who uses it with the 18-45 instead of slapping on some $2,000 lenses
LOL 😂
thank you! thank you! thank you!!!! I purchased this camera yesterday because I returned a go pro and needed a third camera angle cam immediately. This was the only camera the had so I reluctantly paid the $400 difference and walked out the store a little discouraged. Searched all over the net for a video that would convince me to keep this camera. Your video made me open the box!!!! This answered all my questions on what this camera could potentially produce. I think I'll add it to my collection now. Thanks again for releasing this beautifully shot video
Oh that makes me so happy to hear/read! I am glad I could help and you are quite welcome!!! :) Thanks for the kind words!
Wow. I am amazed at the footage you got out of this camera. It's sharp, clear and clean - and it's not even an expensive camera/lens combo. I understand the camera shoots in 10-bit format, so maybe that's why the colours are so rich and the details so good.
Thank you! I am fairly certain I just used the standard profile and fixed the shadows/highlights in post. But it still is an amazing little set up!
@@Soersha it looks a lot better if you shot on HDR PQ

This is beautiful footage! I’ve wanted to get the canon eos r50 for photography/videography and you’ve convinced me! I’ll be shooting more videos but this is amazing , and the colour grading is excellent too 😍💚
Thank you! You are so sweet, I'm glad I could be an encouragement! :)
Can not get enough of the ambience these shots with the music give. It is beautiful. Well done! Great video!
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching! :)
thank you for this video!! finally decided on getting this camera soon and this video was really helpful ❤
So excited for you, have fun!
I'm a multimedia student looking for a budget camera, and this one has been on my eye for a while, thank you for the vídeo it showed the potential the camera has!!! And guess what, i'm for Portugal!! Loved seeing my coutry from the camera i'm interested in hahaha
Awww that's so wonderful to read!! I'm glad I could help! :) And I LOVE your country, Portugal truly is breathtaking!
I just got one & after watching this video I can't wait to test it myself..thanks for posting this❤️📷
Yay! That is so great to hear! I hope you love using your new camera! :)
I really enjoyed the videos and the perspective of the shots. Just beautiful.
You are too kind, thank you
Wow 😮 just wow . Such a amazing video graphy to have canon r50 . ❣️
Thank you so much :)
Great video, editing, music selection, very impressed 😀
Thank you so much! :)
Thanks for the awesome video acknowledgment of Canon R 50, I wasn't sure about its kit lens but now I'm confident on this.
You're very welcome! I'm glad this video was helpful :)
Picture from this camera so amazing! I very impressed!
Thank you!
Necesitaba ver este video para decidir comprar mi primer camara profesional, increible todo 😍📸 saludos desde México!!
Great footage and music choice. I'm shooting with Sony (FX30), but I do love the skin tones Canon cameras capture. Have you tried the 10-bit HDR PQ mode, yet? That's one thing about the R50 that makes it a possible choice for me. A small compact video camera that can still shoot 10-bit video.
Thank you so much! I have not used the HDR PQ mode yet. I want to test it soon though, it looks cool!
Girl. This video inspired me to buy the R50 yesterday and trade in my DSLR. No regrets!
That makes me so happy! I'm glad I could help, I hope you love it!
I absolutely loved this footage! I am trying to figure out what my first camera is going to be and I am stuck in between the R50 & R10. Any suggestions ?
Thank you so much! I’ve used both and honestly had very similar experiences. Since there’s not much of a difference, I would probably choose the r50! Just to save a couple hundred dollars!
Awesome footage and editing
Thank you, I appreciate that! :)
hey! great video :) did you grade the footage or is it straight out of the camera?
Cheers!
Thank you so much! I color graded :)
Great video! Your camera technique is very good. I'm assuming that most (if not all) the footage was shot in 'auto' mode. If so, it handled everything really well. Thanks for posting.
Looked really good not even joking
Thank you for sharing! Super helpful
You're very welcome, thanks for watching!
Fantastic video! The quality is impeccable. Did you shoot on all auto settings, or did you set fixed shutter speed and aperture? I've been wondering how a variable and fluctuating shutter speed would affect footage, particularly where there is movement in the frame.
Thank you so much, I appreciate that! I shoot on manual and typically move shutter speed between 1/60 and 1/120. I also change aperture quite a bit depending on how sunny it is outside!
I was wondering this too! I checked out some of your other vids with the R6 and faster lenses like the 35mm 1.4 Sigma, seems you like to shoot wide open a lot, but that would be impossible to keep Shutter around 1/60 - 1/100. Super curios because the footage looks pretty pretty film like motion, so I think I asked in another comment already lol if you would normall use Variable ND? Or what did you for exposure, just crank the Aperture? Thanks! Subbed, love ur content
@@kurtalexander20 yeah i wonder if she only use kitlens for this with the said settings i think that will be over exposed im trying it now in my R50
@@kurtalexander20 but i guess its auto ISO
Thanks for your video. I looked for a video test of this camera and I think it makes really good images.
Thanks for watching! I agree, I was definitely impressed with this camera.
My problem with the r50 is that i couldnt get the video to always be as sharp as i would have liked. Most the videos were super soft, and i just couldn't getdetailsl out of it, as well as the stabalization didnt work great it felt very jitter, and there was distortion pretty frequently in my clips, i just changed to the sony a6300 a few days ago and can already say if your having problems with any of that than the sony a6300 is a great alternative for you, main difference will be the colors but if you edit those in post than your good, relatively around the same price too.
Hi! May I ask how you color-graded this video? Can you share the camera settings you used in this video? Thanks!
Hello! I used a LUT from Forestry Film. I filmed in manual and 4K @ 24fps. Hope that helps and thanks for watching! :)
Ohh superb love from India ❤
Thanks!
Thanks for this, it was really wonderful. I'm curious to know if you've done any kind of colour correction or if all the footage is right out of the camera and did you use a tripod for any of the shots? cheers.
Thank you! There is a LUT on the footage, but I didn't use a tripod.
The 18mm on the kit lens would still be an 18mm due to the fact that the kit lens is an RF-S mount made for aps-c crop sensors, let me know if im wrong though.
The 18mm is an 18mm. The lens does not change. But it behaves like a 29mm on full frame
Exactly!
Hi I loved the video, all the samples look great. Are the colours straight out of camera or edited?
The colors are edited! LUT & color corrected.
Much needed! Thank you
You are quite welcome!
Color graded or just out of the camera?
Color graded
Mine will be here in about a week or so. This is my first camera and my first time owning one. Im excited and scared at the same time 😅
I’m so excited for you! You’re going to have a blast. Just remember, you can’t get better unless you practice with it a lot! :)
I think, you need to use ND filter.
I prefer the footage from the r50 or the old m50 cameras over the bigger newer cameras when I look on RUclips, I’m so confused as to what to buy as I’ve saved the budget for the r8.
Amazing footage btw.
Thank you so much! And I completely understand. While I haven't used all of them, I plan to make videos with the R7 and R8 by the end of the year and my hypothesis is that the R6, R7, R8, R10 & R50 all produce *similar enough* end products. Choosing which one is best for you just depends on the specific specs that are important to you - feel, size, crop sensor, 4K slo mo, etc.
As of right now, the R6 is still my favorite camera because it is full frame, can film up to 60fps in 4K, and has a good body size (not too heavy or too small). We shall see how I like the R8 though as they seem pretty similar!
@@Soersha thanks for the great response, looking forward to watching future videos on your channel!
I really love the colors of your video ❤❤
Thank you so much!!
@@Soersha
May I check if you edited colour or direct output from camera?
I like the colours too, wanna know if it is direct output
you made me think about getting one
You should do it!
I bought a smallrig cage for it to make up for the smallnes of the camera and it makes it just feel so much better, it do get a little heavier and bulkier tho but i like it
Not a bad idea!
How did you get this footage so stable & clear? Great video by the way.
Beautiful video! 😃👍
Thank you! :)
Hi Soersha love the video, beautiful images!! In the beginning of the recording you mention that you wished you had a wider lense and you wished you had something closer to a 20mm, do you have a lense to recommend for that? Looking to buy one for travel. Thanks
Hello, thank you so much! I have the Canon RF 14-35mm which works nicely, especially on a crop sensor 🙂
Great edit and video clips 👌
Thank you! Your kind words and support always mean a lot!
❤😊 really amazing
Thanks a lot!
Very helpful. Thanks
I was a Sony only in my mind because of autofocus but the footage looks real good I don't know how it is on your face close up tho? But it's beautiful I love the colours! Thank you for posting!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
I love Canon colors
Me too :,)
it is brillant video just utilized the consumer devices! have further any attachment or filter add on this compo?once again applause to your video made.
Amazing videos, are there any specific settings you selected to take these shots, or just used the 4k shooting. option
From what I can remember I filmed in manual wherever possible, 4k @ 24fps, and standard picture profile. I didn't post the settings at the end of this video, but have started to in my new videos. Sorry!
i love your grading ..care to share how you went on with it
Thank you! I use Forestry Film LUTS
Also did you do much color edits on this video? The colors look great
I love to travel and take photos. I travel light and would love to get into photography. It's my first camera and I was wondering if you would recommend this camera or the Sony ZV-E10. I'm portuguese and loved the video by the way :)
i also own a R50 with the same kit...could you please tell me....about.....shutter speed, aperture, iso you choose to shoot... also is it hdrPQ one...if not then what are the settings & luts you use to edit & color grade the footages.... (if you answer, it will be very helpful to me, TIA)
Beautiful !!! (Previous comment... my mistake, the kit lens IS INDEED 18-45mm as you specified !)
Thank you! And lol no worries
@@Soersha 🙏🙏🙏
Beautiful
Thank you!
I am looking forward to buy my 1st camera for just basic photography and i am looking for buying r50 so is the kit lens sufficient for normal basic photography or do i need to buy an additional lens
This kit lens is a great place to start! :)
Possibly it is a camera that I intend to acquire as a backup, but I am still in doubt between R50 and R8.
I am going to test out the R8 in September in Japan so stay tuned!
Did you color-grade this footage? or use a lut? Only curious cuz it's fucking beautiful and my mind is blown.
Wow! Great footage. Did you color it in the camera or did you color grade after shooting? Also, did you use the Auto settings or did you set your own Exposure, ISO, etc?
Thank you so much! I color graded in Premiere afterwards and I manually adjusted the settings for each shot.
Hi incredible video, any chance you have any tips on stabilization, I'm wondering if I need a gimbal for travel content... so was this handheld, and if you happened to have a tripod would you mind telling me what it was, Thank You So Much!!!
Hello, thank you! I actually don't recommend a gimbal, it takes too much of the joy of filming while traveling away. This video was all handheld, just takes practice to hold it steady! And some editing in post. Also didn't use a tripod.
so nice❤❤❤
Thank you!
Is it good for landscapes in nature photography?
Wow i’m excited to have my first camera Canon R50. What is the settings of it? is it standard or neutral? i’m a newbie. i love to take video than photo. is it in 4k mode? thank you
I keep the picture profile in standard and yes, it is filmed in 4k at 24fps. I'm glad you're excited, I wish you all the best with your new camera! :)
I would love to do food Videography canon r50 or canon rp?
It depends! The r50 has better continuous shooting but the RP is a full frame sensor and can go to a slightly higher ISO. I would personally choose the r50 if I was starting because it is $250 cheaper!
Lovely video :)
Thank you so much!!
How did u adjust the color profile? It looks very nice ✨
Thank you! I use Forestry Film LUTS
I have a t3i and might want an r50! I briefly used a Sony ZV e10 at the camera store and felt like the image was too digital and sharp if that makes sense. I love my t3i but want something smaller with WiFi . I take photos hopefully eventually for a blog and do light vlogging such as this video of Portugal! Do you have regrets getting the r50? Does it overheat? And weird question do you feel like your face looks the same in the r50 compared to older cameras ? I feel like the t3i has a filmy look which I love
Thanks for any info!
Also I travel a lot so the smallness would be great haha
Hi, the samples are mind-blowing. I own an R50. I'm just curious if these were shot on AUTO or AV? Is there any specific picture profile used?
Thank you so much! It was all shot on manual and I just use the Standard picture profile.
hi :) is this the coloring of the R50? or did you post process it?
Hello Soersha, could you compare the standard picture profile vs the 10 bit HDR PQ? Most YTubers loathe this kit lens, I find it is good enough for me.
Hello! I rented this camera and so I no longer have it, but I might test different picture profile settings on future rentals. Haven't thought about it much! And kit lenses are simple, which is nice if you don't want to lug around a bunch of gear. :)
How did you do that that you video is not shaky when you film with no tripod? I have same setup and its horrible when filming from hand. Great video.
It has taken a lot of practice to get steady shots. Just keep on practicing! Warp stabilizer helps a lot as well.
@@Soersha and what software you use for editing?
Great thanks 😊❤
You're quite welcome!
did u use gimbal to shoot all these? and did u turn the stabilization on ?
It is all handheld and, yes, I did turn stabilization on! :)
which of these two lenses can be a better option for the canon r50 camera, the canon rf-s 55-210 mm f5.0-7.1 is stm for the rf mount or the canon 55-250 mm f4-5.6 is stm using it with the mount adapter
I haven't used either, so I'm not sure! I will say mount adapters tend to make the autofocus slower but lenses with smaller f-stop capabilities are better in low-light.
wonderful footage! did you use auto or manual settings or a combination of both?
Thank you! Mostly manual
Perfect video, totally loved it❤
But you need to do something about that annoying background music. And choose more calm serein music, e.g water is calm so choose calm music, the sky is beautiful so choose happy music and food, road and cars etc... I hope you got the idea.✨
Beautiful video ❤️
I’m glad you enjoyed the footage! Feel free to mute the video next time 💛
@@Soersha lol
Dynamic range isn't great. The highlights are blown out into a featureless white wall. Will definitely need a ND filter for this camera, but thanks!
You're welcome!
Nice ❤
Thanks!
Incredible video!! Did you have it on a gimbal?
Thank you so much! And no, it was handheld.
There is no colour profile like C log, so what is the seeting for shooting videos in R50 ???
I don't like filming with C-Log anyways. I prefer Canon's standard picture style!
You did a great job. Which settings you used to obtain this result. I also use canon R50 but not able to get good results.
Thank you! I filmed in manual, 4K @ 24fps, and Standard picture profile. Hope that helps!
The sample shots look very good, but they are also the perfect example of why shooting without an ND filter and manual shutter-fps ratio, and iso, will result in an overexposure and blown out highlights. The bright areas of the shots you took are way overblown, and I don't think it's the camera not handling HDR correctly, I think you most likely filmed without an ND filter.
ND filters don't make the dynamic range on entry level cameras flawless. They mostly help with reflection and bokeh. It's an interesting thought though!
@@Soersha You're right, it's the CPL filter that helps with HDR more and they only help 1 stop. This Canon is supposed to have good HDR, around 13-14 stops, not sure why it's overexposing the highlights like that. Cons of a super sunny country like Portugal I guess?
Can you make a tutorial on how you colour graded this footage?
I might share a tutorial eventually, but for now I primarily start with a Forestry Film LUT. After that I focus on adjusting the exposure, shadows, highlights, temperature, and tint for each clip. Hope that helps! :)
@@Soersha cool.. thank you so much.. it definitely did
@@Soershawhich Lut did you use? Can you share the exact one? Thank you!
I'm looking to get into the world of videography and thinking of purchasing somewhere between the R50 and R7 range. I was thinking a more expensive camera would be better for overall video quality, but I mean this is great, what more would you need! Do you do much in post or is this just spliced together straight out of the camera? I see you've a lot of experience with the different R series cameras. In your personal opinion, if cost is not a factor, is there much value in going higher, like for the R10, R8 or R7 over the R50?
The most I do in post is color correct, warp stabilize shots that need it, and make footage straighter. If cost was no factor I would choose a full frame camera, but in the end, the camera doesn't effect the end product too much. I use a bunch of different cameras on my channel and the main point I seem to be making is that the camera doesn't matter THAT MUCH. What matters is what you can do with it and what your vision is! I hope that helps :)

Fabulous, what lens was that, amazing results
Thank you so much! I put the lens in the description of the video :)
Beautiful video! Is this straight out of camera or was there color grading done to it?
Thank you! I color graded the video.
hi, I'm new to the world of photography and I was looking for a camera based mainly on photography but also something about videos, do you recommend the r50? I'm very indecisive and I see a lot of videos where people discourage me from taking it, thanks for the attention
I think the r50 is a GREAT starter camera. I really enjoyed what it produced. There will, of course, always be more expensive and more professional options out there, but if you're just starting out, I definitely recommend the r50!
when i try recording, my camera shakes so much that the videos are pretty laggy how do i fix that do i need a tripod for recording?
Holding the camera steady just takes a lot of practice. If it's laggy I would make sure your shutter speed is at least above 1/50!
Did you use a gimbal or tripod for any of the shots? Olor maybe you have steady hands?
No gimbal or tripod, just lots of practice holding it steady! :)
Really a great video...❤ . I wonder how its better than others video may be you shot on manual
And how do you get that stable shorts handheld ✋?.
I am Car review youtuber 🎉 is it good at vehicle tracking? Can you put a Seperate video about it ???
Do i need gimbal always as it lacks IBIS ???😊
Thank you so much! I used both manual and AF depending on the situation. The shots are stable because of editing and practice holding the camera steady. I have no idea what it's like with vehicle tracking, sorry, but a gimbal will help if that's the look you're going for! :)
Can you do a sample video/review on the R5c?
That's a great idea! I'll put it on my list! :)
nice panorama
Thanks!
