    So many people dont understand business and what this camera is. They only care about specs, specs and specs. It's the mirrorless version of the Rebel T100, one of Canon's best selling cameras of all time. People buying this camera dont care about specs or even a touchscreen, they care about ONE thing, price. The R100 is the cheapest mirrorless camera on the market and by far the cheapest APS-C mirrorless. Just like the T100, Canon will sell truckloads of these at big box retailers like Walmart, Costco etc...I bet they have holidays sales where this will hit $399. You can't even buy a good quality lens for that these days. They will sell tons of these.

      A late comment, but I fully agree with you. I got into DSLR photography last year and I can definitely say that my main concern as a beginner was just price. The daunting prices of higher end DSLR/mirrorless units put me off until I purchased the 4000D (T100) system, and it's done wonders for me. I do wish I'd waited a bit longer to get my hands on this, but we will see in the future!

    Kinda crazy to see the community hate on this camera so much. Yes, it's nothing fancy, but you can get the R100 with two kit lenses (18-45, 55-210) for $729USD here in the US. If a beginner was to get that kit, they could use the camera to learn and see if they like photography. Then they can turn around and sell the body for $300 and upgrade to the R10 for $879. That would mean that, at the end of the day, you'd have an R10 with two kit lenses that cover a huge range of situations for a hair over $1300. That's pretty awesome.

    As someone who only got into photography within the last 12 months, i would have considered this camera if it was around last year. Low entry price, modest prices for lenses. Easy to use and pleasing photos.
    This would be a great camera for a young person, trying to find out if they like photography,; and not to expensive for mum and dad.

    I like to experiment and be creative and you can do that with almost any camera out there.
    I personally don’t miss a touchscreen or a flip screen at all.

    I feel like the Nikon APSC already represents a much better value even with the pretty “old” Z50 body front running the pack. Their 16-50 is wider and longer while also seeming more compact, the mount isn’t closed and thus third party lenses are available, and the 20MP sensor (if you can deal with the modest loss in resolution) has pretty tremendous dynamic range and high iso ability. If you’re getting bodies in to try I’d suggest giving one a go!

    Yes, Canon is capable of creating great cameras (even on the budget level), but it seems to me, they are not quite serious about their aps-c lineup, when it comes to lenses. Looking at the current rf-s lens lineup, there's honestly not much to write home about. For learning the basics, 250D & EF-S 24 mm or even with 18-55 IS STM kit lens is a better option (at least to me).

    "Only" photographers do not need a camera with IBIS. Tripod users certainly don't. Switching off the image stabilisation does not eliminate the problem of the unstable sensor and the possible shutter shock. You can see this in the disgusting blurring caused by micro-movements. Normally, a photographer does not need an image stabiliser. It's a feature primarily for videographers. Lately I have been using my SONY A5000 more and more often and am thrilled by the sharpness of a camera without an in-body image stabiliser.

    No touch screen in 2023? Looks like in the Canon line-up of APS-C the R10 is the bargain one. When they ran the $200 off on that one, it was a steal! The 28mm lens for use with the RP camera sounds interesting. I have the 50mm and 35mm RF lenses, and they both work well -- I assume focusing would be faster on the top-line lenses, but they are big, heavy, and weighty in price -- not a good combo for the street. I wish they would bring back the tilt screen and dump the flippy screens -- hate those weird swing-out screens for shooting --- throws me off and looks so crazy when on the street. I like my GX-9 the most for the street, other MFT cameras I have, and somewhat like using the Canon RP with that extra crop ability. Yes, Canon colors and JPG rendering in general are nice with Canon. Competition with Fujifilm XT-30 and Nikon Z5, which are both bargains is great. But then again, you have to decide which mount, lenses, and total system will work for you. Thanks for the video, Loren

Aside from being mirrorless, it feels like something from a literal decade ago. Looking at the target group, I can hardly see it being attractive to phone-ditchers in 2023 with the no-touch screen. The bad budget RF lens situation also doesn't add to it. But what really makes me question its position is the fact that we look at it as experienced photographers. Let me explain:
    For someone experienced, the R100 can look like a great tool. It basically got all the minimum needed features. It has decent image quality and can get you great results. If and because you know what you're doing that is.
    A beginner doesn't want to dip into the menu to change ISO because there's not enough buttons. A beginner doesn't want to change focus points with buttons if there could be a touch screen. A beginner will, simply said, have a unnecessarily hard time learning to use this camera. It doesn't conform to 2023 expectations of user intuition and the "quickness" that a phone is. It's supposed to be a beginner's camera, but I can hardly see it it trying to support beginners with good features aside from image quality.
    Now, I don't want to say an analog camera could do it better, but it's more straight forward. The R100 is on the edge of being between understandable and underbuilt. It gives you options that you can't easily acess. The M50 (ii) was similar, but the great touch interface made more than up for it.
    A similar priced Fuji X-T2 has more dials and buttons to teach someone what they can do without needing the menu. And to top it all, you can get lenses. The RF mount is a locked down mess atm.
    Okay, rant over. I still see this as a good camera. It's great that it exists and important that brands dip their toes into the budget waters again. But there's just a few things that wouldn't have been that much more expensive, that would have saved this from being a very, very foggy recommendation - especially compared to other used cameras. Missing touch being the biggest thing, as that's something that canon already does very well. Lens options being the other. And some other small things overall as well, but we see those with every brand somewhere. Its just especially painful for beginners to buy such a camera and maybe feel like camera tech hasn't entered this millennium. While it might be a great tool, it could also be the gateway to a great disappointment - especially for beginners. We as experienced photographers might know how to work around limitations - beginners don't.

    This camera takes sharper pics than my bridge camera. I keep accidently turning the mode dial with my thumb though.
    Would be nice it had touch screen focus like my bridge camera does. Focussing is a bit of guesswork.

      I have never been to Indian weddings and I have no idea how to film Indian weddings. However, I don't think this camera is the best wedding video camera.

    The absence of a tilt screen is a dealbreaker for a camera that competes with smartphones, as that and the EVF are the key advantages of cameras over phones at this price level. Also, the kit lens is sooo slow

      @@mattisulanto I checked and for the same/similar money, I could get a Fuji T30 II, or a Lumix G110 or an Oly E-M10 IV.

      @@MichaelGerrard Over here the Fuji is a lot more expensive, but the Olympus is in the same range and it offers a lot for the money. The Lumix isn't any better camera in my opinion, but actually worse, because of its inferior AF in comparison. Both MFT options have a superior lens selection, of course.

    Video is just so big these days. I ended up with the ZV-E10 because of the video first nature. Still entry level, and not stabilized, but much more of a modern hybrid shooter.
    If this had acceptable video, i think it would be a massive hit. As it is it will get retail sale at the price, but very little online hype.

    So a crippled camera with the only purpose of locking customers in the Canon system.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  Год назад

      Isn't that the purpose of any camera regardless of the brand? Of course all camera manufacturers want you to stay with them and there is nothing wrong with that. Like I said in the video, the R100 is an enjoyable camera and you can take good looking photos on it. No camera is perfect.

    • @michaelbell75
      @michaelbell75 Год назад +1

      Canon didnt cripple anything. It's literally a mirrorless version of the T100, one of Canons best selling cameras of all time. It's easily the cheapest APS-C mirrorless on the market, even cheaper than any 3-4 year old M43 camera with no EVF and tiny sensor. The R100 is for one thing only, people who love cheap and everyone loves cheap.
