I’ve never touched a skateboard in my life(barring the time I wiped out on a penny board) and I want to try it. Which board should I start with, a longboard or a regular skateboard?
According to the video you juste watched a street one would be the best, but it all depends on what you want to do with it. Longboards are better for cruising around but it's not made for doing tricks.
Regular skateboard, you can’t do most of the things in this video with a longboard
Entirely recommend getting a regular board, it’s kind of a null in void step too get a longboard first, but if you do go with a regular board, you can put together your own board, or choose out the parts and get someone else to do it, getting any old deck [a good range of size is 7.75 to 8.5, just play with it and see what works for you] “independent” trucks and “spitfire”wheels with a good pair “bones” bearings [get bones reds if you want them to last longer] we welcome you with welcome arms bro, have fun my guy all that matters
I recommend a board with bigger and softer wheels to start with. Makes the ride smoother and you don't have to wipe out because you ran into a pebble
I started with a longboard, there is so many tricks you can do, check out Hans Wouters, lotfi Lamaali, etc. I also have a regular board but I can be so much more creative on my longboard. All longboards are so different too, I really enjoy finding tricks and figuring out how to do them on different boards, whereas on a regular board it’s more clear cut what to do to land a trick.
People who say you can’t do tricks on longboards just don’t have the right attitude yet

I've been skating all my life, and I'm so sick of the discrimination of other sports. As long as you're getting outside and exercising, it shouldn't matter what you ride. This isn't Nazi Germany, where everyone has to do what you think is better. Plus, I couldn't do half the things some people do on scooters and rollerblades that I can do on a skateboard. They all take skill to do.
