    What would your suggestion be for a hose end sprinkler that is a oscillating fan sprinkler? You did 5 minutes with an irrigation system so would it be 10 minutes for a sprinkler like mine? Most of the yard is fine with the 10 minutes I’m doing except a couple spots of a little standing water. So my thought is back down the time or the frequency

      I would probably back down on time and see how it does. Watch it over the next couple days and If need add in an extra cycle or two.

    How low can I go or should go when mowing my lawn in November/ Last mowing. I keep my lawn high during the spring and summer. Now I am about 3 inches maybe 2.5 inches. I am in Boston area. Thanks

      That’s about where I’m at as far as height. As the temps start to cool, and the lawn is no longer growing much if at all I’ll scut it short. About 1.75”.

    Can I do this at springtime around April? Or fall around September to give the grass time to take root? I have bare spots on my lawn I'd like to fill in. Thanks!

      You can do it in the spring. Just be sure to keep the seed/soil moist and you should be good to go 👍

    I left my sprinklers on too long today after overseeding last week and I’m afraid it may have ruined all my work. What can I do to fix it? Overseed again?

      As long as your seed didn’t wash away you should be fine.

      Idk ig im pretty lucky as a first time lawn owner. It’s mostly clay here. I’m on week 2 currently, I overseeded with TF on my TF lawn due to dead spots from the squirrels digging up nuts. I started off watering twice daily 15mins each zone. It takes about 60-90minutes as I only have 1 sprinkler and 2 hose, so while the back is working im working in the sides manually. Mornings before work 7:30am and after work 6:30. Hand water on the side areas of the house and slap circle sprinklers everywhere else. When it rains if it’s not too much I still resumed 2 waterings daily. Heavier rain I skip either morning of evening whichever period it overlaps. Seeds started germinating about 5 days in and 7 more days after that they’re about 2 inches tall now. I’ve continued the same watering schedule and am wondering if im at the point where I should drop it to one watering a day. I have trees so it’s half shade throughout the day and half sun. Temps in my area during early spring was around 75 and it rained a couple times a week. We’re close summer now so temps has gone up mid 85 to low 90 during the day. Soil stays damp until I water. Everything is going quite smoothly. I care about my front more than my back. Here’s the kicker. I used 3 year old seed in the back yard, as I didn’t wanna waste it. (Got it from a friend) and I bought 1 year old seed on a discount. Tested them and the 3 year old seed had a 3/10 germination rate while the 1 year old had an 8/10. Bag was dated 6/23. The other 2021(lol) I’m real practice it had great in the front yard (2023 bag) in the backyard it was kinda meh but it def is going to fill in the dead spots a little more tho not perfect. The front yard tho def going to be perfect. Everything is filling in and has seeds growing everywhere. My yards not perfect either, rocks and acorns i picked up 95% of the rocks but can’t pick up the acorn shells and caps. I also didn’t rake the soil surface, just laid the seed overtop the soil. I pulled a grass seed out to test just today and it seems the roots are about 0.5inches deep.

    How do you get those stripes?

    • @HomegrownHowTo
      @HomegrownHowTo  Год назад

      It’s a stipe kit. It basically lays the grass blades down and the light reflects differently off of them.
      This video shows you a little bit of the stripe kit I use

    Where you live does your lawn go completely dormant?

    • @HomegrownHowTo
      @HomegrownHowTo  2 года назад

      In Utah. Yes it usually goes dormant as temps drop in mid November-ish.
