Thanks for posting this video. I was in Erwin in April of this year for a day and came into your hostel and asked about day hiking into the Nolichucky Gorge. You advised me to park near the cemetery and hike down to the tracks and hike up river. I followed your lead and hiked all the way up to the NC/TN line and then returned. I was so taken by the flooding you have experienced and was searching for anyone who had coverage of this area. I found your video and am awestruck by the damage inflicted by Helene. I first came to this section of the AT in April 2014 and hiked north. I came again in October 2020 and hiked south from this location. I have come to really enjoy Erwin. I'm so sorry. I come from the far northwest corner of Tennessee. I can KIND OF understand your nightmare but it didn't hit me until the end when you spoke of rebuilding. We were in the December 10-11, 2021, supercell outbreak. The tiny strip of Tennessee that was hit by the biggest and the most violent nocturnal EF4 and EF3 tornadoes. The ones that then continued into Kentucky. While our area damage was classified as catastrophic, it was nothing like what this Helene did to you. The tornadoes wiped a community I adored off the map then it hit another tiny community just over the Ky. state line. It picked up the house of my friend and put it down across the road with her inside. She had minor bumps and bruises, but my husband works at a bank in Mayfield, Ky. And it almost wiped it clean. Most are rebuilding, but it's been a process. The damage and debris was cleared a while ago. Mostly from the help of private citizens and different groups from all over the country. One church group of teenagers and parents drove down to West Tennessee from Oregon!! Federal help... it's there, but it's also been a frustrating mass of red tape. I hope you all can keep it all going in your part of the woods and beyond. You will most likely see the best of some and the worst of others, (we had multiple instances of people driving around looking for wrapped Christmas presents in fields and keeping them!) The heart of Tennessee is strong and just like the Gatlinburg Fire and our tiny, Samburg, TN. and Cayce, KY did. Many are sending supplies from here, I hope we can help. 🥲

Thank you for your story Miss. Belle.

Sorry for you loss. We don't get bad weather in Wisconsin. Snow and ice mainly. I wouldn't wait for the government to help. Blackrock and Vanguard who own Duje energy could of lowered the lakes ahead of time but they didn't. They want owernership of the land because they know it's rich in lithium and high quality quartz. Kamala is not going to support you people up in the mountains. She's got her fingers in it too. On October 6th she just gave Lebanon 167 million. September 8 billion more to Ukraine. Fea is saying they are running out of money. That's a lie. People applying for assistance have been turned down. Don't accept anything from the government. They want to steal your land. Please pass this on.

Also remember walking over the bridge. Other places like Hot Springs and Damascus are sad to see as well. I wonder what all the sobo's are going to do because they should be coming through soon.
