I live just off the river in south central chuckey. We slept thru the flood as we are higher up and we're astonished by the damage. Friends and neighbors lost everything, but the spirit and tenacity of the appalachian people overcame all difficulties. Jackson bridge was cleared and opened by farmers and residents using their own equipment. This allowed rescue and emergency staff into the cut off areas. Every church, many flooded, were selfless in their assistance to their neighbors. No one went without. County personnel and local agencies stepped up to take care of the populace. I may only be there in the summers, but my heart is in these hills.
You hit the nail on the head....It's been beyond awesome to see how everyone has pulled together for each other. I heard stories about how quickly those guys got Jackson Bridge back open. Thanks so much for watching and commenting
This is the very best video I’ve seen documenting this historic nightmare and I’ve seen hundreds. Thank you for doing this for future generations. God bless you
I'm still surprised that after all the videos about Helene's damage, no one has compared this storm to Camille. Yet they were almost the same. Both were tropical systems that stalled on the east side of the mountains, dumping literally feet of rain, and causing catastrophic and totally unexpected flooding, largely at night, that caused homes and towns to wash away and huge numbers of people, caught totally off guard, to lose their lives.
Thanks for all the help FEMA, Joe and Kamala, Also thank you to the sheriffs dept for stealing those generators that were meant for elderly people. You guys are a shinning example.
I wish you'd post a video of footage with just the roar of the water and the voices of people surveying the damage and the sounds of wildlife. Maybe more close-ups, down nearer the water. No music at all.
So many Emotions.. No Words.
The country we own is so beautiful we are strong 💪.

I'd also like to see drone footage of the mudslides - there should be many, many, from what I've read.
